270 still in great shape as you travel south of 118 headed out towards rockville and continuing out towards the lane divide. no problems to report at the american legion bridge. overnight construction on the beltway near 66 has cleared. if you are traveling inbound along 95, lanes are open out of newington and springfield. no problems reported as you continue north on 395 headed out towards the 14th street bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. we continue to follow the latest developments in the massive oil spill in the gulf of mexico. bp will launch another attempt to stop the oil gushing into the gulf as early as sunday. engineers will shoot mud and cement into the blown-out well. this method known as top kill could take several weeks to finish. federal scientists a a small portion of the oil slick has reached a powerful current that could take it to florida. it could evaporate before it gets there as well. the obama administration now proposing getting rid of the agency that oversees offshore drilling. the interior secretary wants to eliminate the mineral management service and replace it with two bureaus and a revenue collection office. one bureau would inspect oil rigs and enforce safety regulations. another would oversee development of offshore drilling. a dead man rode metro for five hours on monday before anybody noticed him. inspectors will now have to walk through inside of trains. two workers were removed following the incident but metro put them back on the job because they had properly followed the old procedure and had done nothing wrong. four people are now charged with murder in the death of brian betts, the d.c. principal found shot to death in his home in silver spring last month. police arrested 19-year-old joel johnson this week. three other teens are already in custody. one of the suspect's mothers is also facing charges accused of using bun of betts' credit cards. we are learning about an alleged case of child abuse inside a d.c. public school. this happened on may 12th at hurst elementary in northwest d.c. police say they received a report that i volunteer teacher's aide restrained a child with duct tape. no word on the identity of the suspect. a brace an tax on board a d.c. metrobus under investigation now as a woman was beaten by a man she didn't know for unknown reasons. this morning, police are still searching for her attacker. sarah simmons joins us with the latest. >> reporter: as you know, many people ride the metrobus every day and they feel relatively safe. one woman says she was not safe. this was monday afternoon. ramona richards says it was about 4:30 in the afternoon. she was sitting in the front of a metrobus. it was route u 4 heading to sheriff road. she says she was a few stops from home when she had a brutal encounter with a passenger. she says that i aman came from the back of of the bus and started punching her in the face, punching her at least five to six times and she says while she sat there bleeding, he got off at the next bus stop and what is disturbing is that no one even tried to help. >> it was crowded. the whole bus was crowded. didn't nobody get up and try to give me some assistance. not one person. not even the bus driver. i didn't do nothing to this man and i seen him i think two or three times on the bus. i don't know what medicine him do t. >> reporter: somebody eventually called metro transit police but by the time the police got there, the suspect was gone. ramona says she is so frightened from this whole ordeal that she doesn't want to ride a metrobus again. she is afraid of seeing her attacker so she is not going to ride a bus at all, she says. but the thing that is also concerning is that police haven't seen her attacker either. we are live at metro headquarters, sarah simmons. it was a star studded state dinner to honor mexico's president and his wife. >> ladies and gentlemen, the president of the united states and a baby girl wearing only a diaper. a few minutes later, the father comes out of the house, scoops up the baby and goes back inside. child services removed the baby and two other children from that home. mother is fighting to get her children back. officials are investigating a deadly shooting at a military fa tilt silt in tampa, florida. they say an fbi agent shot and killed a man visiting the base. the agent opened fire killing the man. no one else was injured. north creigh as denying any involvement in the sinking of a south korean warship and is threatening to wage an all-out war if punished. investigators say there is evidence that proves a north korean submarine fired a torpedo that sank the naval ship killing 46 sailors. the white house calls the tax an act of aggression that challenges international peace and security. president obama's pick for the supreme court will go in front of the senate judiciary committee on june 28th. patrick leahy says that date will let senators finishes hearings before congress goes home for the week in july and the full senate is expected to vote before the august recess. coming up here on fox 5 morning news, some important 7:00 and rode eight miles to the capitol without saying a word. the purpose was to remember bicyclists who were killed on their ride and remind drivers to share the road. virginia law does allow cyclists to claim an entire lane. s. we are off to a pretty nice start today. a little bit of fog out there. >> there is a little bit of fog so before a dense fog advisory. that fog is primarily out to the west. that is where the advisory is in effect. you do want to be aware of that. other than that, things will be okay today. let's start by showing you the areas covered by that dense fog advisory and again, it is all out to the west and to the southwest as well. it does include fauquier county and prince william county. those are the close-in counties that are included. visibility could be reduced to a quarter mile or less in these regions. don't be surprised if you encounter some fog even closer in. i know around the american legion bridge, there is some fog this morning. you do want to be aware of that. our current temperatures around the region, not a bad start to the day. we've dropped of now to 55 degrees in washington. 54 out in annapolis. we do have some temperatures in the 40s out to the west. 48 in dulles. 48 in manassas. 46 in martinsburg. a cool to mild start depending on where you are. let's take a look at the satellite-radar composite. we do have some clouds out there this morning. we'll call them partly cloudy skies but you can see that cloud cover is breaking up rather nicely. thicker clouds out to the west. i think during the morning, we'll continue to have some of these clouds be a part of your sky but by the latter part of the morning, we'll see a lot of sunshine and we will develop into mostly sunny skies today. so the forecast looks like this. early clouds and fog, as i said, becoming mostly sunny and definitely warmer. that is the big deal today. we've been topping out in the 60s the last couple of days. today, we make it up to 80 degrees in town. some of you will top out in the upper 70s but no matter what, you will feel the difference. clear skies, mild temperatures, overnight low in town about 60. in the 50s in the suburbs. five-day forecast, tomorrow is another good one. 8 # degrees with a lot of sunshine. i think those clouds don't start to build in until late friday night into saturday. over the weekend, temperatures in the mid-70s with a chance of some rain showers on saturday. 83degrees with a -- 8 # 8 -- 83 degrees with a lot of sunshine. let's find out what is happening athe roads. >> i just received word of a possible motorcycle accident on long the sligo creek parkway at university boulevard. headed up there. you were talk bath american legion bridge. we popped up camera. it is dark so it will be hard to seat fog that tony was talking about across the bridge. typically, we could usually see across the bridge span and around the curve towards the gw parkway and the georgetown pike. that is not the case right now. we can hardly see across the mid-span of that bridge. no incidents to reported leaving tyson's headed in towards bethesda. 395 a better picture for you. no incidents to report leaving duke street out to the 14th street bridge. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. just a heads up if you are planning to use metro on memorial day weekend. trains are not going to be running between the east falls church and the west falls church metro station from saturday through monday. crews will be working on the tracks as part of the metro extension to dulles. same deal goes for the first two weekends in june. if you live some montgomery county, get ready to pay more to talk on your cell phone. county council voted to boost the tax on mobile phone service from $2 to $3.50 a month. that is a way to help dig the county out of a huge budget hole. the energy use tax on homes and businesses is also going up and spending in almost every county department is being slashed including about $163 million from schools. >> we had a 10 #% increase in children who don't speak english. a 44% increase in children who are coming to us in poverty. and we haven't gone down in the scores, we've set the record scores. >> the council also approved a charge up to $800 for ambulance rides. health insurance companies are expected to pick up most of that cost. >> cvs is joining its rival walgreen's holding off to plans to set home genetic testing kits. the fda raised concerns with the manufacturer of the kits. maker says the tests will help you determine if they have a most bacteria. >> my toothbrush. you use your toothbrush every day so i feel like it might be really dirty. >> i think probably the sponge but i think this is pretty dirty because a haven't changed in it like three years. >> reporter: in total, more than 200 items are tested. from toilet seats to towels, door knobs to sponges and yes, even the kitchen sink. things we can't see to keep our hands off, laptops, cell phones and that tv remote. >> i expect them to find germs. i hope they find germs. >> reporter: dr. gary simon is chief of infectious diseases at george washington university. he says most of the germed we come in contact with are harmless and necessary. >> exposure to a variety of germs leads to a development of bath yenic organize mitchs. >> reporter: back in the lab, the see some sunshine. >> i should mention the weather service is mentioning there could be some stray drizzle this morning. tucker and i are watching the radar. we haven't seen anything like that but we do have the fog and mist in parts of the viewing area. our humidity is up there. definitely moisture in the air. for the day today though, the trend will be to dry out and see more sunshine. let's take a look at the satellite-radar composite. we'll show you first of all, what is happening now. we have seen some of the skies clear out a bit. hence the drop in temperatures that we talked about out to the west, temperatures in the 40s and still a few clouds around this morning and, of course, the low-lying clouds, the fog that we have as well. there is a fog advisory in effect for many counties out to our west. here is the -- here are the current temperatures. 55degrees at reagan national. there is that 48-degree temperature at dulles. 53degrees right now at bwi marshall. your forecast for today after the morning clouds and fog, that will give way to mostly sunny skies and a dramatically warmer day today as finally the type of air that we should be having for this time of year works its way into our area as opposed to highs in the 1r0. we'll see highs in the upper 70s to around 80 for your high today. more on the forecast coming up in just a little bit including a look ahead at the weekend. >> thank you. let's look ahead right now to traffic and julie wright. >> update on that wreck that we had mentioned last time around along university boulevard. we found it. it is before the sligo creek parkway. we have the left turn lane blocked at this time. again, westbound university boulevard, sligo creek parkway, left side of the roadway blocked. the beltway in montgomery county, not so bad right now. the lane are open and you are still moving at speed. southbound # 70 out of hyattstown. lanes are open as you continue out toward the truck scales. no incidents to report coming in off of frederick off of 15 or i-70. -- southbound 270 out of the hyattstown. we want to get the latest developments now in that massive oil spill in the gulf of mexico. sometime in the next few days, british petroleum engineers will try again to try to stop the flow of oil into the gulf using something called a top kill method. that involves shooting mud and cement into the blown-out well. meantime, federal scientists a a small portion of the "slick has reached powerful current that could take it to florida but they say it could evan wait before it gets there. hundreds of thousands of gallons have been spewing from the blown-out well since an offshore rig exploded off the louisiana coast on april 0th. the agency that oversees offshore drilling could be in safe since 2006 but there are now concerns about the children he can possessed to lead before then. d.c. police are investigating report an assault inside a d.c. school. police say they received a fear after a brazen attack on board a d.c. metrobus. she was beaten by a man she didn't even know for unknown reasons. this morning, police are still searching for her attacker. sarah simmons join us from metro headquarters with the latest this morning. >> reporter: many people commute on a metrobus every morning. they have no problem with it. they feel relatively safe but one woman says she was not safe monday afternoon. we spoke with ramona richards last night would says it was about 4:30 monday afternoon that she was sitting in the front of the metrobus. it was the route u 4 destined for sheriff road. she was a few stops from home, she says when she had a brutal encounter with a passenger. she says the man came from the back of the bus and started punching her in the face about five to six times he hit her in the face. she sufferedded some serious injuries. she sat there bleeding, she says and then he got off at the next bus stop. what is disturbing here, she says is that no one tried to help her out. >> the bus driver sat there. all the other passengers sat there. >> i'm very viced because, for one, she is a woman and how could you sit there and watch a man beat a woman in the face and for two, she is a person. you should help anybody if they need help. >> reporter: now, someone eventually called metro transit police but by the time they got there, the suspect was gone. ramona says she is so afraid of what happened, frayed of seeing her attacker again that she will not ride another metrobus. at this point, as we mentioned, police are still looking for her attacker. the man offered up his infant daughter to a convenience store clerk in exchange for two 40- ounce bottles. that baby is now in protective custody. the mothers of the three americans held in iran just met with their children for the first time in almost a year. the mothers wearing long black head scarves landed in tehran earlier this morning. they hugged their children while smoking back tears. it is the first time they have seen each other since iran arrested the three in july of last year. iran claims the three were spying. relatives say they were hiking in iraq's peaceful northern mountains. first lady my shoal obama presented with some tough questions during a campaign against childhood obesity appearance. mrs.obama and her mexican counterpart visited an elementary school in silver spring yesterday. cameras were rolling when one second grade girl turned the topic to immigration. >> barack obama is taking everybody away that doesn't have papers. >> well, that is something that we have to work on, right, to make sure that people can be here with the right kind of papers, right? that is exactly right. yeah, well, we have to work on that. we have to fix that. and that everybody active season already. >> yep. here, our weather calms down. we are dealing with some fog this morning. before a dense fog advisory in effect for counties to our west and today south and west. that fog advisory in effect until 9:00 this morning and we showed you a live shot as we went into the commercial of the american legion bridge. that is socked in with fog this morning. current temperatures
