Sue palka is down in the weather september were more, hey, sue. Lay there, tone yes, i not only start meterological suer jup, july, august also the start of sure cape season. Weve gotten a jumpstart because were two named storms in thanks to emergence of bonnie over the weekend. I wanted to talk about that and get you up to date on the forecast. This is a list of names this year. Next up would be colin and there is a possibility that something could form in the next week or so in the gulf of mexico. Here is the prediction for this year. More active surprise 3re districted because el nino is going away and luning will develop and will encourage development of storms. Usually 6 0 year average of twelve named storms. The center predicting 15 to 16 here at fox 123 to 13 and 8 to 12 is our prediction and four to eight from National Hurricane September Erin on average we see 6. When is the peak time for that. Usually we dont see this much going on early on. Hurricane alex formed january in middle of atlantic that was unexpected and unusual. We had our Tropical Storm bonnie over the weekend. But prime time august and september with september 11 oclock peak. We dont have to worry about that and this is the first day of meterological summer. We take a little heat out of the forecast for tomorrow and include a couple showers. Best chance of showers will not be coming of what is let of bonnie. We may see that up the coast on friday and frontal boundary to the west and while we keep everything at bay tonight we could see showers and rumbles of thunder starting to pop up in mountains to west tomorrow. During the Daylight Hours most of us stay dry and well likely see temperatures in the lower 80s and lite cloud cover in the morning and spotty showers around in the afternoon. You can see that the bulk of activity tomorrow looks like it will stay mainly to the west. We might have something around at 10 as well. Little less hot tomorrow for june 2 and still a pretty decent day and sure is loverly ill have the 7 day forecast in just a little bit. Tony. All right. Sue thank you very much. This is very pro pot event. Four candidates turned out and five energy a proxy and where they stand on issues of Marijuana Law to audience that was very eager to listen. We should be able to regulate the consumption in private clubs. We should look at marijuana as something responsibly consumed and that there need to be place as cross the district to be able to do that. As it relates to issues of disproportion on the west and east of the river being arres arrested and i think this is a much larger issue and not just a conference about marijuana use i think theres a larger issue of why are we disproportionately resting our young men oaf there and using that as a tactic. Marijuana should be legal. The citizens of this city voted for it to be legal it should be legal and should have all of these qualifications around it. Jack evans is running up opposed and he said he wanted to come out tonight because hi called the Current Situation when it comes to pot and d. C. Prepoingt russ and even he has trouble keeping track of what is and is not legal and he spoke about medical marijuana and his wife p ago and she was able to get her hands on marijuana when she was sick. Apparently it was a big help. He says the Current System is too tough to navigate you have to apply and get a license and medical marijuana system is backed up and he called it insklusable. The Marijuana Policy project which organized this forum believed that medical marijuana was one area the council can tackle at least immediately or most immediately and we spoke with them and some of the people in the audience with their reaction. Congress is working on other rapoport improving the medical program is something they can take an active role in. Every candidate has been on to candidates and reform. A lot of its always changing when they get there. That last gentleman was telling me about the underground scene. Theres a lot of clubs which right now people are smoking together even though it is despite the law the other big thing is the taxation. The leaders and candidates who gather here tonight all team to asee the city is missing out on big time revenue because as of right now theres enormous amount of marijuana being given away in the district. To walk or not walk that was the question and controversy ahead for Bethesda Chevy Chase High School principal and School District superintendent were drinking at prom. Bethesda Chevy Chase High School class of 2016, 470 graduates front and center in hotly debate up treeinging lifelesson late in senior year. What does it take for us to rail lies this say problem dangerous tore kids to be drinking. Arriving in the district this morning we asked graduating seniors and parents whose side theyre on they should not walk. It was. Theres first year bcc principal dr. Done aredman jones banning several seniors for taking part in commencement students she determined failed toll heed her repeated warnings not no drink alcohol before, during or after last months senior prom or did they support interim Montgomery County schools superintendent larry bowers who overruled dr. Jons decision. It should be done casebycase basis dr. Jop got a standing ovation from some of the parents and deposit mention the controversy and this lesser to the bcc dated tuesday dr. Jones wrote as we move forward we can turn our energy to deeper kvrpings and policies and preventative measures implemented across the district and address the problem of alcohol and connected to School Sponsored event. Not wantsing to cause a distraction says he does not condone under age drchinging and in his own let to bcc senior class families becaus becauseers wrote i do not reach this decision lightly and i support the decisions staff are doing to promote student safety i made this decision in the context. I dont think they should have overruled the principal. She has just as much jurisdiction to make sure its safe. I would have preferred what the prince pal said. As the controversy sixers, life marches on for these newly minuteed high school grads. In norm west. Bob barnard, fox5 local news. This story got us talking in the newsroom today and do rules mean more and theres no repercuss breaking them. Our radio talk show host oscar santana. Thanks for being here and Alexis Sanders a recent College Graduate we appreciate you being here today. Thank you so much. Thank you. Let me start with you what do you think about this particular case. Did the superintendent make the right decision or principal make the right decision. I think both of them had to make a tough call and tough call for anyone we all made them unfortunately this time theyre tried on social media and social media is tough place to make decision on because reality is that theres a mob mentality to social media im passionate about this now. People can make one decision and it can defin them for rest of their lives. Is that fair . Are you talking about who are you talking about . Signer intend enter. But youre right people can make that decision and kids made the decision to drink and they were not supposed to. So if there are if they made a mistake and shouldnt there be repercussions. Degree of repercussion is important. Theyre young adults and kids and still learning. The idea that someone is going to prom and there may be students that have embibed in alcohol thats not alien to any of us. The reality is that the superintendent had to make a tough call. He made that call and now people are asking should he be superintendent. Is that necessarily fair . Alexis, this is closer to you youre a recent College Graduate. And oscar mentions these kids make mistakes. They were warned. Principal said no drinking heres what the repercussions will be. Some chose to drink anyway, repercussions you dont get to walk at graduation. Now thats been overturned. Give me your sense of it from a students point of view how you think it should have been handled. Heres the thing theyre not the first group of students to have a drink at senior prom and wont be last. To say they should be banned from high i think its just a little bit much. I think that kind of consequences dont match the crime. You know . Things happen. Theyre still learning. It definitely they should have to call for their actions built i think their graduation is a time for everyone, not just the student but for the family members. I remember my graduation was not too long ago and i remember my parents you know being in the stands and how happy they were it was a day as much for me as it was for them. I dont think you should take that away. One second as a parent who has a son graduated from college all right Duke University and parent with 1 16yearold who will graduate from nice two years i will tell you what . If one of my children were caught and this was the punishment handed out think would not be at graduation . Would i be dispointed . Absolutely. If we dont teach children consequences of actions now it will continue. Another case weve been talking about i dont know if you remember aaffluenza teen ethan couch sentenced to ten years probation for killi f people in drunk driving case but lawyers argued and got him off he was well off and deposit understand the rules. We see what happened with that case. Right. Right. Right. Let me ask you this you touched on something social media and this plays a big role today. And i actually think in some cases people decisions get overruled or changed because of a backlash or fear of backlash from social media. Do you think thats whats driving some of this . Look i agree that the students should have been punished. To some extent mring county has to some degree. We dont know that. Its not our business. The reality its tough to make a decision without think what is a public going to think about this . And if i for example if i had to make that decision i know i can not make everyone happy but just because i cannot make everyone happy does that mean im not doing my job. For me this is not whether hes doing his job for me this is about rules and kids need to l those rules and speaking of another situation where we saw rules happen recently we had the young lady from Charles County who wanted to wear mock mock ainsins. Because it violated dress code. Thats a case we saw young lady and family maybe a very impassioned defense of heresy want is it to do this. And that was changed rule was over turned. Most can understand that one a lexis let me ask you this i hear what you said s i know graduation is a special day. It is. But the rule was set. The guidelines were set s shouldnt there be reper ketions for people whoa break the rules. Heres the thing. In your jobs you break a few rules maybe, maybe youre late to work one time you dont get fired automatically over first time being late. Maybe this was first t getting into trouble. We dont know if theyve been straight a students all along does that mean all that goes out the window your first time you show up late for work. No one most jobs you dont get fired hopefully. But. I so i its a learning experience there should be repercussions but i think nning them from graduation is excessive. And let me add this. This is first year this contract was in place. Is the contract the right tool for this type of exercise . If theres so many stakeholders involved and we know that every year someone will break one of those across the country that someone will break this contractor pledge i had it growing up as well. If they break the pledge and administration has to go through this entire process which is difficult decision involving everyone, is this the right tool to ensure that students wont drink at prom . If you dont do it now, in ten or 15 years will they be killing people . And well say, okay, well they deposit learn a lesson then. We hve set rules. Those rules start at home. They do. True. True. They absolutely do. They have to be continued in sew sigh tie. We could keep talking about this [ laughter ]. Thank you oscar and alexis. Coming up next, what the department of veteran as fairs is doing to ease the backlog of doctors that are need ford all the patients waiting. Did you notice allergy symptoms kicking in a bit. I was okay i have a problem with trees. Ill tell what you well reveal the allergy symptoms today so many people were complying and we had what i called the allergy trifecta with glasses, trees and mold all really high in ironic twist the only thing not high today was weeds and interesting there i expect that to be high tomorrow. With weatherhead lines rain helps with pollen. Theres not much in the forecast and tonight should be delightful maybe a patch or two of fog later and thats about. It tomorrow well have sun and clouds we could have a few showers thursday though it looks like best chance of seeing showers tom be west in Higher Elevations and interstate 81 theres a better chance of wet weather on friday. Bopy comes up the coast and we have a frontal boundary approaching and between the two of them we should squeeze out showers and storms, 60 chance of that happening friday. Much smaller chance tomorrow would talked about Hurricane Season beginning it ruins through november 30 and its more active. Tonight a quiet night mid 70s its been delightful 87 in the disstrict and 73 westminster should be delightful evening and good start tomorrow morning. Really a pretty nice looking thursday for us average High Temperature 80. 82 and cloud cover keeping temperatures down a little as well. Theres a weak front coming through tomorrow. I dont think it will have a it cuts temperatures done a little bit. Saturday looking good. Better day of the two weekend days. Sunday looks like well have to deal with round of showers and thunderstorms. Some of those could be on the strong side on sunday tonight not much to see in terms of cloud cover. Isolated showers thats about it and got hit again towards miss cat way area and Prince George county and waldorf region those were not foov moving fast. Not much out there tonight. We slide south and this is what is left. Remnant low now and raining hard on southern tip of hatteras and as if moved slowly up the coast we see it moving little more tomorrow so that the norfolk area is getting in with the rain and eventually well see that ourselves. As you can see by future cast not much around for first part of the day or noon hour and we start to see a few stronger showers and storms heading to the Higher Elevations as mentioned well put this in motion and maybe closer and into the evening hours and maybe as late as 11 00 we could watch one or two showers. Overall not a terribly wet day. And overnight we drop to 67 degrees. So it should be quite delightful and patchy fog and for tomorrow partly sunny and again good amount of sunshine in the morning. Scattered showers to watch in the afternoon. Best chance west of d. C. And 8 with the east wind. Thanks to the east whipped we can knock the temperatures down a little from where it was today to 82. 84 mannasas and frederick 84 and hagerstown 82. On thursday again start with morning sunshine weak frontal boundary in the mix to promote one or two showers and friday dealing with what bonnie is able to deliver and frontal boundary. We wrap it up with the fox 7 day forecast i touched on the weekend and saturday 8 5. Storms likely surprised. Its looking like one of our wetter days and could be a shower for not terribly wet in the morning award whipping as we get started on second week of june that is forecast accepted to to proceedy get it caught up in football.
