Reporter now, the white house hopes this years conference helps fire up the conservative base. Back here this afternoon, President Trump will hold a listening session on human trafficking, where women and girls are sexually exploited for profit, here in the u. S. And overseas. This is an issue that is important to ivanka trump, who helped push behind the scenes for this meeting to happen right away. Matt and lester . Peter alexander at the white house. Thanks. But when asked about this, this is what he said. Heard was from a commentator yesterday. Saying, leave it the way it is. Right now. There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. What he said then is not what he did yesterday. Why . It has a lot to do with the base that elected him. President trump ran as the candidate of protector of evangelical christians. Jeff sessions is one of the first republicans to come over and endorse trump. And Jeff Sessions had decisions coming up. This is not an area Jeff Sessions wants to go in. And donald trump chose to go along with that. Is that the reason for the timing . Or is the timing tied to the fact that cpac starts today . Conservatives around the country coming for a victory party. You got th if youre pleasing Jeff Sessions, youre pleasing the conservative base. Let me get your take on the contentious down hall meetings. This is reminiscent of what we saw with the tea party in 20092010. It cost democrats control of the house. Are republicans watching this, thinking, we may be going in the same direction . Republicans are in a real bind here because theyre thinking back to the tea party. Theyre remembering what happened in the midterms in 2010. They see the polls, Donald TrumpsApproval Rating not good. Are we in trouble in 2010. At the same time, they remember the campaign. They remember thinking that donald trump was committing political suicide in front of him. And he won. And they wonder and see the polls showing Republican Voters are still overwhelming with trump. They wonder, is their base more in touch with donald trump than with them. And that pulls them back. And the accusations that some of the protesters are being paid. Does that work against the president . Believes in the idea of galvanizing his base. Just talking to his base. Creating a reaction on the other side and trying to get his base to react to the reaction. Steve kornacki, appreciate it. Programming note tied to politics. Were going to take this show on the road. But we already know they are roughly the size of our own planet. Like earth, could and will now help to soon answer the question so many ponder, as we peer into the heavens. Anytime we find evidence of a habitable world, a world that might be like the earth, immediately leads to this deep question. Are we alone in the universe . Using a powerful telescope, launched into space, and those on the ground around the world, scientists found the star system they call trapis i. A group of seven planets. Did you know that each year more than 350,000 people in this country suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. The survival rate could double if the victim is treated with cpr and automated defibrillator. Dr. Mehmet oz is here with great refreshers for this lifesaving technology. Can i add one caveat . The life you save is someone you know and love. Four of five are someone part of our family. Families who do this, saves themselves. And every minute you do not do one of the procedures, the survival rate decreases by 7 and 10 . You have to do this quickly. Lets talk about the first time you come across someone. Theyve collapsed. What do you call 911. Call for help. Send someone to do it. You have to stay with the patient. You shake them. Make sure theyre out. And you do chest compressions. Very simple. You put the hand across the nipples. Grab across and go like that. Chest compressions, you push down about two inches and you need to go about a ray of 1late. Oldschool, you do this in conjunction with mouthtomouth recessati recessation. It opportunities out, its better if you dont breathe. That crazy math, how many breaths, how many compressions, thats all done. We had all of the medical schools involved. All of the Major Medical societies in our charity for kids. We taught more people to do the texas twostep, call 99 and do chest compression. When do you stop doing chest compressions . When the 100 beats per minute. And if you do this in conjunction with using one of these. And these are aeds. Theyre in public places. They should be in any place that you can be. Many get them in their homes. People think theyre walking into an airplane cockpit. Its intimidating. Youre delivering an electric shock to someone. It cannot hurt them. The machine is so smart. You open it up. It looks like this. You bust it out of the glass. It will tell you very specific things to do. For example, it will tell you, settle down for a sex. Stay calm. Follow these instructions. Those instructions will tell you to take the shirt off of the person. You know the clocks ticking. Youre in good shape. This pad here gets pulled out. Remove or cut clothing if needed. You take the pad out. When theres maps where to put the patches. You need to put the patches around the heart. What this is going to do, it will analyze the heart rate. And then, if necessary, deliver that electric shock. Exactly. You put one beneath the nipple. All you have to do is apply it the right way. Put one, above the other nipple. The heart is between. All youve done is surround the heart. It has told you to do everything i just did. Now, its analyzing. As its analyzing the heart, youre doing chest compressions. It tells you to get away. Now, its analyzing instead of shock. Will be delivered in three, two, one. Delivered. You just saved a life. If you did not get away at that point, what would the peril be to you . In the hospital, we dont take ourselves away. Theres peril, if youre the shock can arc through you. Thats theoretical. But it tells you over and over, to let go, let the patient be before it shocks them. Does this work with anyone in cardiac arrest . Are there patients this would not work for . Theres some folks that it wont work for. The machine knows that. You cannot hurt the patient. And if youre smart about taking it out and applying it like we showed, so simple, either sides of the chest, one below the nipple and one above the nipple, nothing can go wrong. These are in a lot of public places, schools and things like this. About 1,000. Theyre about 1,000. I think they should have them in their homes if they have a risk for a heart problem. Were getting smarter and smarter about predicting people that have risk. Theres 40yearold people who drop dead. The photographer at dropped dead at age 42, and gotten chest compressions for 20 minutes. Chest compressions, we can double and triple the people we save. My goal today with you, today, save someones life. And for the rest of our lives, the same evident will come through, just from what we taught. Dr. Mehmet oz. You can watch his show, weekdays. We brought in jackie london to help. Shes the nutrition director at Good Housekeeping magazine. I want to talk about portion control and sizes. I tend to fill up the bowl. My bowls at home when it comes to cereal serving sizes, there is no standard serving size. You want to look for something between half a cup and a full cup. Ones that are higher density, these that are more of the clusters, the higher fiber versions, those will be more on the halfcup size. The lighter ones, like the average cheerios will be a full cup. Shooting for a calorie range. Youre looking to round out your complete breakfast to be. 350 to 400 calories. That will get you through the morning. I want to bring up another topic. Thats the labels and the claim cla claims. No artificial colors and ingredients. These are specific by the fda. If youre looking wholesome, nutrition food, in your diet, youre not going to get that from a processed cereal. You can get that starting with things that are the basics. You want to look for 100 whole grains as your first ingredient. That can be wheat or oats. And you want the Ingredient List to be as simple as possible. And you can do something with this option, one of my favorites because its a grab and go. You can add your own sweetener in there. This is what good hou housekeeping labs like. Theyre tested for nutritional quality and for taste. And you can get all of the nutrition you need in the morning. The other thing you see a lot of times, its good for you because it has x, y and z. A good source of this is another one that has an fda definition. 10 of the daily value, means its a good source. We see these frequently. But we dont eat nutrients. W we want to be looking for a hearty combination of three grams each, protein and fabiber. That gives you sustained energy and keep energy up through the rest of your day. This is starting your day. Absolutely. This is starting your day. And fiber is one of the kn nutrients that americans are getting my half. And high protein is linked to reduced are risk of weight gram. Look for three grams each. Cheerios is a way to start. And your kashi go lean has 11 grams of protein. Im trying to cut out sugar. I am reading the labels. And it says no highfructose corn syrup. Sugar by any name is still sugar. Many of therc lots of cereals. One corn syrup. Cane juice. Another sneaky one is fruit juice concentrate. Those are often found as a sneaky source of added sugar. But nothose can add up. What youre looking for in terms of creating a nutritious breakfast, less than ten fwrgra of added sugar, under 2 grams of milligrams of sodium. These are excellent choices. This is one of my favorites from kind snacks. This can be eaten on its own. Its a delicious Peanut Butter version. And the ezekiel has no added sugar in there. You have your raspberries and we can poor milk in here. You have sweetened this naturally on your own. And a filling way to start your morning. Thanks for the advice.
