Reporter were talking an awful lot of rain and certainly that raises the risk of flooding in the area. Thats white this 17th street levee was built. Im standing by one end of the wall here. What theyre going to do is decide whether or not the federal flooding in the federal try age area is imminent. If they decide that, then bha theyre going to start snapping in walls. Little panel are going to fit in here and then those panels are going go all the way across 17th street. Youll no longer be able to use 17th street. That will be closed to traffic. The wall will go all the way across, and if there is flooding, this wall will stop that water from getting down into the low lying areas, all of the federal buildings right in the section of d. C. Theyre waiting word whether theyre going to give the go ahead and snap it in place. This was taken in georgetown early this morning. Washington harbor. Another spot that can flood when the rivers start to run high here. As a precaution, they have their flood wall already in place. Its going to stay in place until the threat is over to protect all of the businesses that are there. They dont want the grass ripped up. It will become a muddy mess. The turf fields are closed. Also events have been canceled. It protects the businesses so if the Potomac River starts to leave its banks and flood, it will not go down into the development to where those businesses are, and theyre going to leave that wall up until the threat of flooding is over. Also some precautions being taken by the National Park service. Something worth mentioning, they have all their turf fields. Theyre going to be closed because of all the rain. They dont want them to be ripped up and turned into a muddy mess. Many events around town on the National Park service grounds, they have been canceled, postponed, switched to other dates. So if you have plans, you may want to check with the organizer to make sure theyre happening because quite a few things have been canceled because of the weather.
