This is after they knew about the drastic reports of child abuse and mistreatments and the countys head start but briefed the entire board on the allegations of the ongoing investigation. A Major Development as Ellicott City continues its road to recovery after historic flooding last month. Starting tomorrow, the far western end of main street will reopen. The area only suffered minor damage. Officials warn that parking will be tight until all of the area reopens. Records obtained by news4 show that amr ambulances are falling short on the requirement that they arrive in ten minutes or less for the vast majority of calls. Reporter this contract was ambulances like these here at this firehouse an opportunity for more training, more maintenance and particularly to improve Response Times to 911 calls. And even though they are not living up to the requirements in the contract, chief dean tells news4 the district would be in bad shape without them. Its been a very busy summer for the d. C. Fire department averaging about 500 calls a day. Amr was brought on to relieve the pressure and theyve transported more than 16,000 patients. Records provided by the Department Show that amr is not showing up as fast as the chief and mayor had promised. In the first four months of operating, amr showed up in ten minutes or less 82 of the time. It took amr 15 minutes or more about 9 of the time. The contract between d. C. And amr requires the private ambulances arrive in ten minutes or less the company can face monetary fines. Chief dean has not required amr to pay those penalties. He says it wouldnt be fair. When we did the contract with amr, we used 2014 data and we anticipated that they would be going on 165 calls a day at max. Currently, they are going on average about 180 calls per day. While amr is not meeting the standards yet, because of the Record Number of 911 calls, the district would have been in bad shape without them. Just looking at where we were last year and the number of times that we just had to hold calls, we couldnt dispatch units, we dont find ourselves there. The increased car volume has been fueled by increasing heat and incessant spice and k2 overdoses. Nearly 600 overdoses alone. Now, when news4 first requested the data on the Response Times for amr, we were provided with a comprehensive list of weekbyweek response numbers. We came up with a Response Time of ten minutes only 73 of the time. The chief got with amr officials and they went through the numbers again and made what they called adjustments and thats how they came up with the 82 number that were reporting.
