Aguilar works at the dunkin donut s about a mile from his home on the other side of the beltway near the akia store. And aguilar did not show up for work that morning, an instead, he ended up here in burtonsville. And why did he come to burtonsville . Did he keep the gun stashed somewhere around here . We dont know for sure. But we do know this, that later that morning, he took a cab, and the destination, the mall. 10 15 saturday morning, thats the time that police say that aguilar arrive d at the mall. He hung out there for about an hour before he began his shooting spree. And he could have opened fire anywhere in the mall, but he chose the zumiezs store for the murder scene, and sioux michimy sumi zumiess store, a skater shop. They say that the manager brianna bensolo died of multiple gunshot wounds as did another worker Tyler Johnson and the sho shooter Damion Aguilar died of a selfinflicted gunshot to the head. If anyone needed anything, tyler would have been there for him. and he was just a positive young man who was so respectful, and so much fun and so delightful, and he had so much life left to live. And friends of tyler say they cant imagine anyone targeting him for violence. And we are now hearing the 911 call after a 10yearold girl fell into a well in pasadena, and today, we learn that it is the childs babysitter who made that call. She even considered going down into the well to save her. Im right here, baby, im right here. I wont let that happen. He is stuck in a well . Im going to lower a ladder to you right now and were going to get this strong gentleman to do it. And ill lean in and ill hold it. No, no, no, no. And how far down is he, maam . 30 feet. 30 feet. A store the ri that you will see first on news4 tonight, a metro sign mess. The metro posted new signs that the included silver sign stops on the orange and the blue line platform inside of the metro station, but one glaring mistake, they the indicated that the blue line travels east to falls church. News4 adam tuss is working the story for us to night. That is right. Over a dozen maps here at the metro center station incorrectly labeled. What was happening is that the blue line was splitting up at East Falls Church when it should have split off at rosalyn. And that is where it splits off, and so weer start to ask metro about it, and the metro mechanics start to show up and ripping down these incorrect signs and in doing that they create a bigger problem, and underneath those signs are other sign s th signs that were also incorrect, and you can imagine that it has led to a lot of the rider confusion, and we will have much more coming up in the next half hour of news4 at 5 00. Adam tuss, news4. Crafting a state of the Union Address is no simple matter. And today, the white house released some behind the scenes footage of the president working on a draft of the speech with the staff. The president s address tonight is to include a raise in the p minimum wage for new federal con track tract wokers to 10. 10, and it is currently, 7. 25, and the president are will call on congress to apply that raise to existing workers as with well. And that speech is four hours away now. And Chris Lawrence is live on capitol hill with more on what to expect. Hi, chris. Hey, wendy, a lot of the federal contract workers in our area, and that is going to be something that they are going to be keeping a close eye on, but it only applies to the new future contracts and not the ones they are currently working on burk the president is expected to go into the big detail about not only the m minimum wage, but extending the Unemployment Benefits and doing things likejob training and other executive things he can do without congress and creating a retirement help and if you work at a job without a Retirement Plan from the employer, the president may be speaking directly to you tonight. And as far as the minimum wage is concerned, look, they could not get it passed at 9, and most experts say no chance to get it past a 10, but for workers rate here in our area, they may stim have a chance at a bump in pay. We might see though this this local area, because washington, d. C. Has moved forward with raising the minimum wage, we might see that some of the surrounding counties or states will try the take that on. Prince georges county and other counties are calling to bump up the minimum wage as well. Back to you, jim and wendy. Well, Chris Lawrence, you are new to us coming to us from from my old alma mater cnn, and we well come you and glad to have you here on the team. I thank you is much. I really appreciate that, wendy. We will see you back in the building a little bit. Yep. In the district, tom sherwood, news4. Entire town cut off by an avalanc avalanche, and that is not the only danger for people blocked off by a 100foot of snow. And now this extremely cold weather is also an arctic blast. And it may be hitting our area. Liz crenshaw will be here to tell the us and it is a bad combination, low temperatures and old pipes. It is leading to breaking pipes. And the ride home tonight is going to be tough around woodmont as there is a broken main. And Kristin Wright joining us to tell us about what to do about t the additional breaks. Well, it is not the best timing in wisconsin avenue and rush hour, but the good news, the northbound lanes leaving d. C. Are not affected at all, however, all three southbound lanes are closed from woodmont avenue to battery lane. We all know that wssc has been so busy recently because of all of the cold weather that we have had and they tell us that today, it was really rough. An old pipe ruptured underground, and wisconsin avenue buckled and gallons of water started spill iing and ye another water main break, and overwhelmed crews are scrambling to keep up. And we are so busy right now with the breaks around the two counties that we cant get somebody immediately dispatched here. A salt truck came through as the water kept coming and the temperatures were dropping and this is a few short hours before the evening rush home. And wisconsin is a major thoroughfare, but no cars can pass through here now, and all three southbound lanes are shutdown between woodmont and battery lane, and the bitter cold and the huge reason for the spike of water mains across the area. And we are looking at 69 and 70 and 71 outstanding jobs in the cues today and it is maxing out the ability to get to all of the breaks. Reporter and they report almost 500 breaks this month alone. Well, we had a little bit of time to catch up after the polar vortex, and down the four or five jobs to work through, and then shoots right back up to 70 when we got into the extended cold snap. Reporter so in addition to this pipe, wssc says that the road also has to be fixed, because it buckled becau of all of the pressure, and they are going to be out here for a long time no doubt. And now, one interesting fact that we learned today, and that pipe down there, that ruptured was put in 1924 and that is a factor in many of the water main breaks that we have been seeing in this cold snap, and coming up at 6 00, we will dive into that and work on that for you, and stay tuned at 6 00, and live in bethesda, Kristin Wright, news4. And when we wanted to complain, at least we dont have two avalanches to block off the opportunity to move around, and two the avalanches and snow has created a dam that is blocking a highway into valdez, and transportation Officials Say that at this point, here is what they will do, all they can do is to wait and it is going to take a few days for them to start clearing out this snow. And the big thaw there. Yeah. They were. And big one here as well. And many parts of the alaska have been warmer than us over the last couple of days. And nome, alaska, with which is usually the coldest places, it was 50 degreers and we are nowhere near that. One of the places in the teens, and now talking about more snow coming in, and this snowstorm is going to the affect those who dont normally get it, and a lot of you on the twirt and the facebook pages, yeah, bring it on, and out there to the frozen potomac river, and that is the temperature out there right now, and so far, that is the afternoon High Temperature with the windchill currently sitting at nine, and any wind bites through you. I am having a blast. Right now im outside of the prudential center, and on a very busy main street here. But guys, this is how it works. Each team gets to meet with the media for one hour and we are talk about thousands is of reporters from all over the world. What are you . Im a super hero. You think that it works . Do they answer your question . Oh, it works. Im actually mozart, the famous i thought you were Benjamin Frankl franklin. Reporter is this the longest that you have had a beard . Yes, by far the longest. Reporter and if i pulled on it, would it hurt . Yes, dont pull on it. Reporter and the guys could not escape the outrageous questions on media day, but one thing is for sure, the odder that you dress, the easier you are to spot. We have been here for the last five or six years doing what you are doing and reporting on the goofy people, and after five or six years, we decided, well sh well, for one year, lets be goofy ourselves. Okay. Next year, i will try to change up. Apparently, that is the key. I dont think that i will ever dress up, but i will tell you that the players answered a owl of the questions of the people in costumes, so apparently, it is the secret. There was one really tough question asked to the bronco quarterback Peyton Manning and we will have that coming up at 6 00. Back to you. And next year yox u are going goof next year, you are going goofy, and we will look forward to that. No, just like this. And from media day to scandals. Somebody has been banned. And a snowmobiler has a incredible story of survival after hello, everybody. Im chief meteorologist doug kammerer, and keeping an eye on the storm team 4 radar. This is going to be a storm that extends all of the way to charlotte and fredericksburg, and most of this is going to evaporate before it hits the ground, and the air is dry, but as we look at the radar, you can see that it is a matter of time before we see the snow coming across. Something else we will see is areas to the west, you wont see much of the way of snow at all, but what you will see back along i81 is the windchill advisory tonight, and that is around winchester, and martinsburg, and 5 to 15 below zero. Another cold night tonight, and we will talk about that and the snowfall totals. I will take you town by town in Southern Maryland and let you know who gets what and when. Yikes this is a story that you are seeing first on 4. A major mistake with some new metro signs. The sips were on the orange and the blue platform at metro center. Take a look now, and if you notice it, it is going to be this. According to the sign, the blue line travels from rosalyn to East Falls Church, and the metros effort to fix the error caused more confusion. And adam tuss is outside of the metro if station with more on this. Adam . Talk about confusing, jim. Let me sum it up for you sh, an there were new signs put in place, and when we told e metro they were incorrect, they ripped down the old signs to put up in new signs that were also incorrect. Now metro trying to find new signs to replace the old sign that sup right now to make it all better. Reporter take a close look at the new signs that metro posted all across the platform at metro center, and you might notice that something was up. The blue line does not go to East Falls Church, and in fact, it splits off in rosalyn, and 13 of these signs up and down the platform. And the system should be able to label it correct ly, and mak sure that the people can get around it easily. We told metro about the problem, and they came out and tore down the new sign, and in tearing down the new sign, metro revealed old signs that were also incorrect. And you probably know that the blue line doesnt go the eisenhower avenue or huntington and so now, more confusion. Well sh, it is a simple oversight, and because of the simple oversight, they should have caught it. If it were comely kated, then you wont catch it, but it is simple, and it got me at first. Reporter and now metro says it is going to have to cover the old signs that were correct a number of years until new signs can go up that clear it all up. Got it . Well, it looks quite confusing from the signs, and it is not well labeled and people are confused so they should do a better job than doing that in labeling it clearly. Reporter and metro could not tell us how much this is going to cost, but the old signs torn down were basically stickers that go up. They are working with the contractor get the correct signage up by the end of the week, and until then, all of the incorrect signs are covered up. Back live at metro sen te, and this is when fare increases are being talked about and some riders are calling this wasteful. Learn more about this at 6 00.
