Take a look at the numbers that we saw earlier this afternoon a. High temperature the today of 54 in washington, and 59 in fredricks burlg, a fredericksburg, and 50s to the north and west, and this is how it feels, and the high temperatures were 11 or 12 00 this morning, but now we are down to 22 for windchill in d. C. , and 13 inga gaithersburg, and 26 in culpepper and it is feeling 20 to 30 degrees colder in the region. That is happening right now. The cold air is coming in as the cold front has moved through and with we do have the windchill advisory in effect for everybody from the i95 corridor west. And tonight, 10 degrees below zero again. And wait until we show you the numbers coming up tomorrow, and again, we are going to see a chance for the snow tomorrow the and into wednesday, and we will show you the best chances of that coming up in a minute. And now we have up to the minute details coming up in that Columbia Mall. Here is a look outside of the mall right now, and it row opened for the First Time Since the saturday shooting, and workers and shoppers were returned to the scene where two people were killed and a shooter took his life. And there are a lot of question, and the first is why. Here is what we do know at this hour sh hour, the friends know the shooter, and Darion Aguilar say he was a good kid and no criminal background. And the crews made calls to find out where he purchased the gun and did learn that he passed a background check. And today, the governor Edward Omalley visited the mall to make it clear that it is safe and open for business, so nowen 48 hours later, there is no clear indication as to the motive of the murdersuicide. Right now, the memorials of the mall shooting victims are growing. There are flowers in the food court fountain, and condolence book, and outside there is a sign that says forever in our heart and there will be a candlelight vigil for the two victims thursday. We are finding out more about the victims. Johnson was 25 and a graduate of Centennial High School, and recently moved to mt. Air ri, and bensolo had moved to college park a short time ago. And we go to the latest with tracee wilkins. We have not heard from the home, but this is the house where he lived with his mother, and this is where where Prince Georges County and Howard County police came to search after the shooting. We are learning today more of who aguilar was from the folks who went to school with him. Reporter alleged gunman Damian Aguilar with was considered a quiet kid who worked on the dunkin donuts, and worked at the Recreation Center in silver spring, but he failed to make an impression with anybody who interacted with him. He didnt say much. Just chill. He just was a quiet guy and you never would expect this. Reporter he is suspected to have sot and killed two mall employees and then turning the gun on himself. Police say they cannot find a m motive for the killings. He was just quiet. Reporter and today, we talked to the classmates who described the reserve student. We went in the limo to the prom, and he seemed like a chill person. You would not think of Something Like that would come out of somebody like him. Reporter he was accepted into the Montgomery Community college upon graduation, but never intended, and decided to go to work. To me, it seemed that he didnt care much about school, and he didnt care much about the school life, so you would not expect him to take his life or anyone elses. Reporter a few hours after that shooting in Columbia Mall, and before his name with was released, his mother put out a missing persons report on him. And coming up at 6 00, we will speak to Prince Georges County about how that unfolded and why the fire and ems departments visited the home this summer. Tracee wilkins, news4. We are learning more about the moments before and after that shooting with someone who says he came face to face with the gunman. I was in the store with the two other employees when the shooter came out of the back right store or dressing room with a singlebarrel shotgun and took aim at the female behind the counter, and i was about four foot from her, and he shot, and dropped her. At that point, i got on the ground and i did not know if it with was real or not. And then i heard the second shot, and it must have been the male employee who was towards the front of the store, and i ran out of there on my hands and knees and i got out of the store. Then there were a couple of more shots and i yelled shooter, call police. The person who did not want to be identified said that the shooter said nothing, but started firing. It with was an emotional day today at the mall as it reopened and people are comforting each other at the Community Memorial s as the community is trying to get back to some sense of normal normalcy. Bethany decker with was last seen january of 2011, and investigators found her car parked outside of her ashburn p apartment complex. The car came to a stop at this tree which was almost totaled when the police came, and the victim was entangled in the windshield of the hyundai. Her injuries were so severe that her lower leg had to be amputated. Well, the first feeling for a few days now has been shock. I mean, i never would have thought that she would do that. If i had, i would have been with her. I mean, i would have been trying to the help her. Reporter that is jean clap living next door to the henry home, and kept in touch with margaret after the couple divorced a few years ago and she said that the couple had difficulties, but she said that henry never talked about hurting anybody. She never said she was going to go kill somebody. And now she is charged with malicious wounding. Now coming up on news4 at 6 00, a message for margaret henrys friends, and one they plan to deliver in person. And the Chicago Public School Schools rarely close because of the weather p but the classes are can e selled today, because of the dangerous bitter cold. Look at the winds gusting to 30 Miles Per Hour in d. C. And down towards the river in reston, and leesburg, and the wind is going to be a major factor and that is why we have the windchill advisory. The windchill is 5 to 10 degrees below zero from i95 including Prince Georges County and anne aroundel county. And make sure that you bundle up tomorrow morning, because with what a difference a day makes. I want the show you what is happening here. I want to show you the bigger picture, too. Windy and cold in the region and the cold front is off of the coast, and continues to move out. That is what we are going to see the windy and the cold conditions. We have another storm system working up the coast, and this is going to be such a close storm for us that we are going to have to watch extremely carefully, and down to the south, new orleans and atlanta right on down to raleigh, and look at this, and look at the warnings here, and these are winter storm warnings, and houston and new orleans and which could see upwards to half an inch of ice and 1 to 3 of snow, and macon, georgia, up to raleigh, and even up through South Carolina and you will see it here in our region, but in columbia, they are preparing for snow, and they could get upwards of 3 to 6 inches of snow, and that system is going to move off shore. Now, lets discuss how that system will affect us. No advisories for us, but this area of low pressure is moving close to the coast, and the best chances of snow are Southern Maryland to the neck, and ocean city, and norfolk and virginia beach. Virginia beach could pick up 4 to 8 inches of snow here, and if it moves to the north and the west, it could impact us, and some of us will see the snow to today, and tomorrow night, and into the day wednesday. And 20 degrees for a high, and cold tuesday and 26 on wednesday and chance of snow early, and 33 on thursday, and 44 on friday, and then we get out of the freezer. 47 on saturday, and right now, super bowl sunday, a high of 46 with rain showers that are going to be likely. The family of one of the Columbia Mall victims is just as confused as everybody else. Cindy petty says that she had no idea who the shooter was, and that outside of the mall job her nephew sat on the board of a Serenity Center helping people with drug addictions. He had his struggles in life. And he struggled very hard to overcome his problems, and then he reached out to others to help them overcome theirs. P my brother and his wife are being very, very strong, and im proud of them. You know, im just very proud. Johnson graduated from Centennial High School in ellicott city. And we are learning new details about the weapon used in the shooting. The shooter purchased it in r k rockvail last month. Pat collins has more. Reporter wendy, the klum beby ya mall shooter bought the gun here, and the man says there was nothing sketchy and no red flags, and the deal was done by the books. This is the type of gun used by the Columbia Mall shooter. It is a mossberg. 500, and 12 gauge pump Action Shotgun and it can be broken down into pieces that are less than 18 inches long which would make it easy to transport in the backpack. And Darion Aguilar bought it here at this gun shop making the purchase on december 10th in the afternoon. Inside of the shoch to d shop today, i spoke to the man who sold him the gun, but he accounts it this way. He said that aguilar is nice and polite and said please and thank you and wearing khaki pants and buttoned shirt. There was another man with aguilar at the time, and the salesman says that he, too, was welldressed and courteous. And aguilar said that he was nervous about guns, and that he lived alone with his mother, and wanted a gun for home defense. He paid about 134 cash for the gun and bought two boxes of shells, one with bird shot, bb pellets type, and another with buckshot, more lethal pellets. They say he filled out the appropriate form, and the form was submitted online and within a minute, the deal was approved by the feds. The gun used by aguilar had a pistol grip like this, and that grip was not bought at the gunshot, but it could have been obtained online or through a private sale. Now, after the sale, ingaguilar with his gun and with his friend left the store and they say he walked down the street. Live in rockville, pat collins, news4. Police would not comment on the lawsuits, but at a City Council Hearing friday, chief cathy lanier addressed officer misconduct plaguing the district. Police officers have been ar rrested i the last five years and attorneys describe a constant climate of abuse against black residents and secrecy, and investigations and random stop and frisks. We are have been paying taxes for years and why would they want to take more away from us. Reporter the vast majority of the streets are controlled by the d. C. Government and that is where you will see the parking meters, but the National Park plans to install its own meters on the roads controlled by the federal government. For years tourists and commuters have been finding free Parking Spaces here along the national mall, and like this street here on potomac, but this is not the only place where meters could be popping up. 1,000 would be installed from constitution avenue to the white house, and the tidal basin and more. They will be in addition to the meters that the district already uses. The park service utilizes these like at the thompson boathouse, and like these meters they charge 1. 25 an hour, the new meters will charge the same as d. C. , 12 hour. They keep taking more and more things away from us, and i paid for free parking and im a citizen and im 79, and i have been paying taxes since i was 18. I mean, excuse me, my word. Whose idea is that . Reporter well, the park service says it needs to charge for managing public turnover, and allow i and allowing more access to public parks and to encourage public transportation, and to use the parking revenue to improve and make affordable more transportation activities inside of the park. I could complain, but i think it makes sense, because i was talking about how fantastic it is to pull up in front of the white house and the monument and get out of the car and go, but i certainly understand where it is coming from. Reporter now the park Service Plans a series of Public Meetings to explain the rollout of the meters and two things that are still on the table, they are considering having the park mobile app to have people pay by phone, and also considering having the meters active on sundays and holidays which means that you would have to pump the meter on those days. And tonight, we will start to see the storm system making its way up the south, and that storm will have an impact on the area, and it will bring us some snow, and the best chances for snow, and this is late tuesday night into wednesday, and notice i95 and a few flurries here, and a shower or two, but the best chapss are down to the south and the east, and waldorf to fredericksburg and leonardtown and you have a chance to see accumulating snow, but the good chance is salisbury over to st. Marys county, and southern calvert county, and the portions of the northern and this is an area that we will watch closely, and if it were to move up closser to d. C. , we would see the accumulation closer to i95, and this is something to watch for you over the next 24 hours burk something for sure, it is going to be cold, and it is 26 on the wednesday and 33 on thursday, and then we are about done with the colder air. 4 44 on the friday, and 47 on saturday, and right now, sunday, 46, and that is super bowl sunday, by the way with the showers likely. Reporter and the repairman ordered the wrong part and went six weeks without a properly working are refrigerator, and that did not count the amount of money he spent taking two kids out to eat. Well, i could have bought a new one just from the money i spent eating out. Reporter and he said that the system was fine, but when the problem came up again, the warranty had expired an owens had to pay for the repair. That cost us an extra 589. Home warranties get my blood boiling. Reporter david sutton says that they are loaded with fine print and even though brochures and the salesmen make them sound like a good deal, most waste your time and money. And much more often we find that the person who buys that extended warranty might have a problem and finds it is not covered. Extended warranties are notorious for having loopholes to leave you holding the bag. It leaves yo wu the feeling that you have been taken. Reporter owens says that his Home Warranty was worthless and the required repairmen were lousy technicians. So his advice for anybody to buy a Home Warranty . Save the money for the repair that is going to be needed down the line.
