>> thank you, julie. in our related development on al qaeda leader was killed in yemen bay drone strike last night. he was on the fbi's most wanted list and was one of the most senior al qaeda leaders involved in the first failed underwear bombing attack. he met in yemen with the nigerian suspect that tried blow up a plane on christmas day in 2009 with a bomb that was concealed in his underwear. he was linked to the bombing of the u.s.s. cole in yemen. the drone strike that killed him was carried out by the cia and the u.s. military according to two u.s. officials. there is some newly released video of an american aide worker that lived in rockville, maryland. his name is warren weinstein. he was kidnapped in pakistan last august. he's asked president obama to accept the conditions for his release. the conditions laid down by al qaeda. >> reporter: it is important to know nbc news did k not verify where this video was produced. it is an effort being made by watching the video you can tell this is a man who was very much alive and who is well and being taken care of. >> my name is warren weinstein robin weinstein is in the video in a long tunic top and baggy pants worn in much of the country. seated comfortably at a table. stack of books before him, plate of food. he even eats some of that food as he delivers his message. that message is one in he's speaking directly to president obama as an american citizen. he makes an appeal as an american citizen, much of his career spent in service to the done trip both home and abroad. he asked the president obama consider the demand of his captors. those demands were made by late last year in form of audio samts in which he demanded the u.s. and allies not only stop all strikes in pakistan, yemen, somalia, kazak and also release all taliban and al qaeda prisoners worldwide. back to you. a montgomery county school teacher sunday arrest tonight facing child pornography charges. the police say 39-year-old aaron lamayor worked at north wood high school if silver spring. detectives discovered pornographic images of children on one of the school laptops that he used on the job. further investigation found that at least three of the victims are students at north wood. he is being held tonight on $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court tomorrow afternoon. today a jury handed down dozens of guilty verdicts in one of the deadliest shootings sprees in d.c.'s recent history. five men were con viewinged in the south capitol street massacre of 2010. four of them have first-degree murder charges. one of second-degree murder. all face a number of other serious felony counts in a series of attacks that started over a fake diamond bracelet. pat collins is in d.c. superior court tonight with more. >> reporter: a strong statement from this jury. a powerful promise from u.s. attorney ron mason. we begin our story. >> our goal is simple. make sure at sentencing they spend the rest of their lives in prison and never take another step outside of prison or breathe free air again. >> reporter: guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty. more than 150 times the foreman said the word guilty and a verdict that took 7 1/2 days to reach and more than a half hour to recite to the judge. in the hallways of the courthouse, the jurors talked about their deliberations and the impact of this trial. >> i feel for the family of the victim. >> the crime was -- particularly horrific. definitely was a situation that all of us took extremely seriously. and i don't think anybody is ever prepared to see what we were exposed to. >> reporter: five men convicted in connection with one of the bloodiest weeks in the history of d.c. crime. march 2010, an eight-day five-murdered and nine others wounded. for the relatives of the victims today a great sense of justice. >> to hear the verdicts read, you have some relief that these guys, these evil young men will never be on the street to harm anyone, anyone again. >> it won't bring my son back but i know that these boys won't be on the street to do this to nobody else's trial. >> reporter: guilty of first-degree murder. assault with intent to kill and 13 other felonies. his brother, orlando carter, leader, guilty of five counts of first-degree murder, nine counts of assault with intent to kill, and 36 other felonies. jeffrey best, five counts first-degree murder, nine counts of assault with intent to kill 3shgs 3 other felonies. robert bost, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to kill, 23 other felonies. lamar williams, guilty of three counts of second-degree murder and 25 other felonies. sentencing in this case is set for next september 11. live in superior court, pat collins, news4. >> thank you, pat. 55-year-old wayne price was in court today in montgomery county. police say that he shot and killed his 23-year-old son matthew price. police say that there was an argument on saturday night at an apartment in gaithersburg and say the elder price tried to walk away from it. when the fight continued he pulled out a gun and shot his son. the elder price has been charged with first-degree murder. a judge ordered him held woupt bond. the district is going to have to pay thousands of dollars to four people who challenge their drunk driving conditions -- convictions. the attorney general's office says that the district has agreed to pay about $20,000 to four people. they were part after group of 20 that said their convictions were based on breathalyzer scores from machines that were uncalibrated. therefore, inaccurate. the other 16 cases are still pending. last february police were ordered to stop using those machines because the results were inaccurate. at least two national polls suggest the race to the white house is very close in these early stages of the campaign. president obama and mitt romney are trying to change that. steve handelsman is on capitol hill president's re-election campaign. next week france will inaugurate its first social head of state in nearly two decades. francois hollande defeated sarkozy in yesterday's election. sarkozy lost yesterday's elections in both france and greece sent stocks tumbling early on wall street. they recovered to end on a flat note. the dow jones industrials average finished the day 29 points lower. willing to do with plenty more details to tell. back to you. army investigators say the soldier who died in the middle of a video chat with his wife was not shot. he was talking to his wife by way of skype from afghanistan last monday when he suddenly collapsed. this weekend his family raised the possibility he had been shot. they say that they noticed a bullet hole in the closet behind him. today officials say that an autopsy done on friday found no bullet wounds nor did they find evidence of foul play. they say that it could be weeks before they know the cause of death. the autopsy on the man found dead following the kentucky derby is now complete. corner in louisville performed that autopsy today. she reported finding injuries on the victim but won't release any more information. the police say 48-year-old perez worked at the racetrack at churchill downs. his body was found in a barn early sunday morning. the police say his death might be the result of several fights reported in there in that area that night. perez was from guatemala and the brother of three-time kentucky derby winner jockey calvin bore. so far nobody has been arrested. second company recalling dog food because of salmonella problems at a pet food plant in south carolina. well pet llc announced the recalling today and involved five ounce sample bags and 15 and 30-pound bags of wellness complete health super five mix for large breed puppies p. the bags have best buy dates of january 9 three january 11, 2013. the company tests all of the food for salmonella prior to shipping and tests on these lots came back negative. they say they are voluntarily recalling the food out of an abundance of caution. cameras caught a tornado going through a city about 40 miles outside of tokyo. a 14-year-old boy was killed. dozens of other people were injured. that tornado tore roofs off of houses and snapped tree limbs bp 24,000 of them lost power. the forecasters say it was an f-2 with winds as high as 57 miles per hour. tornadoes rarely happen in that part of japan. >> good it happened outside of tokyo, not closer to the city. >> and in the daytime. >> could have been worse. we have kind of gloomy a stroke but she never made it. now tonya moore prepares to bury her only child. >> i don't know how i'm going to get through this. >> reporter: police want people to be on the lookout for a dark colored suv with temp tags and front end damage. finding it is key to find the driver who hit and killed arrington. fairfax county police set up two message boards looking for witnesses to this fatal incident. they are looking for any surveillance video that could help them in this investigation. >> dorothy spencer reporting. the cia has spoil ad bomb plot to decembertri a u.s.-bound jetliner. a senior government official tells nbc news the plot was going to be carried out by al qaeda in yemen but was derailed long before it could be carried out. the u.s. officials say the bomb was an upgrade of the underwear bomb that failed to go off aboard a jetliner over detroit on christmas of 2009. the fbi has the device now and is investigating to see whether it could have gotten through airport security undetected. white house said today vice president joe biden's comments on "meet the press" over the weekend in support of same-sex marriage do not mean that president obama has changed his position about the issue. the white house says the president's view on gay marriage is, in their words is still evolving. 42% of adults will be obese by the year 2030. that's according to duke you virginia. brendan was driving them back so they could change clothes when he apparently lost control of his car at a curve in the road and hit this tree. >> it appears that the speed was a factor and still waiting on the determination with possible other causes. it appears it was speed. >> reporter: police are directing traffic here along this blind curve on rench road to make sure yet another tragedy doesn't occur here at this same tree where mourners have gathered. they were honor roll students at williamsport high school. samantha kelly was an all-tate volleyball player and team leader. the number one singles tennis player in her school. teammates took down the net on the court she played on. brendan cauliflower just signed to play baseball at salisbury university. his teammates came to this roadside memorial to pay their respects. >> i think that -- i mean, just like any team, you know, after prom, excited. accidents happen. i mean, it is very sad. >> sam was just one of the most kind-hearted beautiful girls at our school. she always made everybody smile and did everything she could. >> reporter: family and friends found out about the fatal crash after samantha failed to respond to more than 20 text messages. the last ones desperately asking where are you? reporting from hagerstown, maryland, chris gordon, news4. a soldier with ties to ft. belvoir died in afghanistan. master sergeant gregory childs died last week in kabul. he was from warren, arkansas. he was assigned to the defense logistics agency at ft. belvoir in virginia. the army has not said how he died. he was 38 years old. a dog in chesapeake, virginia, has a lawyer who is trying to keep the pet from being put to death. the st. bernard bit owners. the animal control officials decided to put him down but a public defender with a group called the lexus project decided to take up the case. the lawyer says the dog was provoked and the dog shouldn't, in his words, be blamed for man's stupidity. a hearing tomorrow afternoon will determine whether the dog is a dangerous dog. fire investigators in the district are still trying to figure out what caused the house fire in columbia heights friday afternoon. a 19th century home that belongs to well-known muncie activist dorothy brazil and her husband. they were not at home when that fire started. at one point the house collapsed. one fire fighter was injured and expected to be okay. you don't have to look very hard to find new housing being built across the district. >> no. but tonight there is current concerns that with this housing boom many of the city's lower and moderate income residents are getting priced out of the market. tom sherwood reports. >> reporter: johnny barnes is suing owners of a new downtown apartment building saying that the owners got a tax break for renting to low-income client tonya lewis who was quickly forced out. what's your housing situation now? >> i'm homeless. i qualify for an affordable dwelling unit that i was asked to pay a higher amount that did not match my income. >> reporter: upscale development is changing the face of many neighborhoods in the district. economic boom for many but also a hardship for those looking for affordable housing to rent or buy. >> reasonably priced housing in d.c. is vanishing. over the last decade, d.c. lost 50% of its low-cost rental units and more than 70% of its low-cost homes. >> reporter: ginnie reid is a leader of the d.c. fiscal policy institute and advocate for low and moderate income citizens. its study shows a precipitous drop of homes under $1250,000 falling from more than 63 homes homes in the year 2000 to just over 17,000 now. even real estate interests that supports the city's redevelopment and questioned parts of the advocate study say the city's government must aid housing to affordability here. >> district has done a pretty good job. not saying they can't do more. they have done a lot in terms of creati creating stock in the district. there will be a segment which represents will be unaffordable without some kind of government subsidy. that's a real issue for the city. >> reporter: in the district, tom sherwood, news4. taking another look. maybe orakpo didn't get up for drills in time. coach having a good time out there. meanwhile, the worst swing of the day has to go to cornerback josh wilson. you would think a world class athlete like wilson subpoena going to whiff a whiff and when he does it it, he shanks it. wilson will take time to polish up his golf skills after he's retired. but maybe we can get out there and do a story. i always wanted to do a golf story with somebody that is worse than me. >> doug, you can -- >> you know what, that's a great point. we are doing that next week. >> right. thanks, dan. coming up, a very special f britain prince harry is here in washington tonight. he is receiving a humanitarian award from the atlantic council. they are honoring the prince for his work with wounded service members. prince harry worked with a number of charities including walking with the wounded and help for heroes. this afternoon he visited with wounded veterans at the british ambassador's residence. some of them participated in a paraolympics sporting event called warrior games. chance of rain during the day tomorrow, most of the rain remains on the dry side for most of us. especially if you live to the east of 59. to the west better chance of rain coming in around 2:00, 3:00. around d.c., probably after 5:00 tomorrow night. don't wore write too much about the rain tomorrow. we will see showers, maybe strong storms on wednesday to the south and east of washington. high of 70 on thursday. 72 on friday. and right now the weekend is looking fantastic with highs in the mid 70s and plenty of isn't shine. not bad at all. >> we like that. thousands of people are following an online drama that involves an injured baby eagle. there is a web cam near the nest of a family of baufld eagles in minnesota. last week people watching the feed noticed the eagleet had gotten its wing stuck in part of the met and it was serious. he was removed and nursed back to health. it took an experience ed rescue and cherry picker. the parents is yocircled nearby. he left some fish in the nest. experts say the next few hours will be critical. that's because adult eagles generally abandon a nest 48 hours after the young have left it. apparently this eaglet was gone more than 48 hours. it could be tricky. >> let's hope it works out. >> the cameras still roll. that's it for now.
