game. dan hellie is here with more. >> yeah, and we really are just getting started here, chris. i mean, you've got bryce harper going tonight, rg3 here today. but we are going to start with the capitals. they were up in new york this afternoon, where their second-round series with the rangers is under way. and they have some work to do, folks. rookie/goalie braden hopy who played so well against the bruins struggled today as the capitals lose game one. the alexes squared, ovechkin and semin hoping to get off to a hot start. 1-0 in the second, brooks like with the beautiful saucer pass, flips it up and over the ranger sticks right to jason chumera, right between the legs and tied at 1. third period, derek steppan, 2-1 rangers. added another goal and go on to win game one. game two is on monday at madison square garden. thousands of fans. the redskins are saying almost 20,000 showed up at fedex field this afternoon to get a glimpse of the future. robert griffin iii making his first local appearance as a member of the burgundy and goal. the number two overall pick studying up. he's got the playbook. he was even singing "hail to the redskins" with the fans. but he might need to brush up just a little. rg3 headed back to texas tonight. he'll be at redskins' park for a rookie mini camp next week. it was really fun out there at fedex field. you're going to hear a little more from rg3. we've got a chance to catch up with him afterwards, and it was like a college pep rally. it was very cool out there today. i'm glad they did that. >> you've interrude him twice and you believe he's the real deal. >> i think off the field, he has everything necessary to be a superstar. if he can perform on the field, which i think he can, it's going to be everything redskins fans had hoped for. >> thank you. we'll see you later in sports. >> see you then. in prince george's county, police arrested a man and charged him with murder after his pregnant girlfriend was found dead in district heights. the woman was found stabbed to death in her car on mason street last night. news4's derrick ward is live at prince george's county police headquarters in palmer park. derek? >> reporter: a disturbing discovery and immediate arrest in a case that remains under investigation. now, a prince george's county police have arrested 22-year-old nathan cedrick rogers. he has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a woman found in the trunk of a car in the 7100 block of may son street in district heights last night at about 7:00. that's when police responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle at that location. when they arrived there, they found 23-year-old jasmine michelle moss. police say she was pregnant, and that she had been stabbed. now, there's not much information at this point about what the initial call was that prompted police to go to that location, but when they got there, they found something immediately that heightened their suspicions. >> we do know that she was found in the vehicle. officers detected a chemical odor emanati from the vehicle. and determined that her -- there was a body in the vehicle. >> reporter: now, police say that the victim actually lived less than 3/10 of a mile, virtually blocks from where the body was found. that is the suspect, rather, lived less than 3/10 of a mile from where the body was found. police say he had a relationship with the victim, and they do believe that he is the father of the child. as we said, this case is still under investigation. we'll have more on it as it becomes available. right now, we're live in palmer park. derrick ward, news4. >> thank you, derrick. in d.c., a man suspected in a series of hammer attacks in the petworth neighborhood was in court today. michael davis is the brother of two nfl stars. he was ordered held without bond. he is now charged with two attacks after a new victim came forward. news4's darcy spencer has those new details. >> my son is innocent. >> reporter: the father of 19-year-old michael davis charged in two horrifying hammer attacks in the petworth enabled of northwest washington says his son is an innocent man. how did he look in there to you? >> he looked good. he looked happy, he looks calm. and he showed me -- he showed something in his face he didn't do it. >> reporter: davis appeared in d.c. superior court for the first time since his arrest thursday night. he's charged with bashing a 19-year-old woman in the head with a claw hammer, fracturing her skull. he's also charged in a second possible hammer attack. it happened hours earlier at 2nd and ingraham streets. the suspect greeted him with a smile, next thing he knew the victim was hit on the head from behind, knocking him to the ground. he says he didn't immediately report the attack, because he was embarrassed. when police investigated, charging documents say they found drops of blood and the rubberized handle of a hammer that was broken off. police are trying to tie davis to three other assaults. one of them left a tourist from colorado dead. the medical examiner says his injuries are consistent with a weapon similar to a hammer. in yet another attack, doctors say the victim may have been hit with a hammer or baseball bat. according to these court documents, a witness came forward on thursday and told police he had found a bloody sledgehammer wrapped in a white safe way bag tucked between a fence and retaining wall just three doors down from the suspect's home. but when police went to investigate, they say that sledgehammer was gone. at d.c. superior court, darcy spencer, news4. a developing story tonight. a prince george's county police officer has been suspended after being found with a woman who was arrested on drug possession charges. stephen kingman is a first-year officer. police say he was with the woman who was arrested on eastern avenue in d.c. last night. kingman has not been charged himself, but he has had his police powers suspended, pending an investigation. a traffic alert for drivers in fairfax county this weekend. the intersection of gal lows road and lee highway is closed. that is in merrifield, virginia. v-dot crews are repaving that section. drivers can still get into business areas, but you'll have to follow the posted detour signs. v-dot says it should finish this road work by afternoon tomorrow. still ahead tonight, why mega church pastor joel olsteen is pushing back services. and a police chase that led to a fiery crash. he was riding in a stolen car. >> why he says police are the ones to blame. >> sit down! >> dude! >> sit down! i'm not a dude! >> and it's video that went viral. what a judge has to say about a fired police officer's quest to get his job back. chuck? >> well, baptism by rain drops at the ballpark for tonight. and tomorrow, a much nicer day. so everybody that's going to plan on going down to the stadium foam tore that will have noticeably better weather. the clouds will be gone and the rain drops will be gone on your sunday. but between now and then, rain drops are a big part of your saturday evening forecast. so don't stray from home without your umbrella. out there, we look now. plenty of clouds outside all day today. and as a result, it stayed on the chilly side. we made only 56 degrees for a high today. that's 15 degrees colder than average. and now with rain drops starting to fall in and armed town, it's down right chilly and nasty. current temperature, 52 now at national airport. the wind has gone calm. humidity on its way up as the rain drops continue to fall down. and it's cold across parts of northern maryland. temperatures in the mid 40s with the cloud cover. just ahead of the rain drops, temperatures are generally in the low to mid 50s now, but even those will be trending down as the rain drops move further and further south down into parts of southern maryland. your saturday evening planner, temperatures in the low 50s now, drifting back into the upper 40s to near 50 by 11:00 this evening. but again, rain showers out there for now, and another batch of rain moving in later. here's the way it looks on storm 4 radar. there's washington, the capital beltway is wet on all sides at this point. and moderate showers now across much of central and southern parts of prince george's county headed to southern anne arundel over the next couple hours. so definitely don't stray too far from the umbrella. meanwhile, back out to the west, leavesburg, the rain drops have stopped, temporarily. but there's more rain just back out to our west. most of the heavier showers with this system will be going just down to the south of the metro washington area, but nonetheless, even this northern periphery will be enough to get us wet over the next couple hours. those rain drops are three or four hours away. so that puts it in here just in time for the 10:00, 11:00 time frame. and these thundershowers here are your late-night rain chances that come in about 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. fortunately, those are the last drops we need to contend with. so the best chances for rain will be this evening and tonight. the ripple of low pressure races by, 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. things will clear out nicely tomorrow. we'll be left with plenty of sunshine tomorrow afternoon. and then a nice little warming trend coming our way as we get the new work and school week started. for this evening, cloudy, wet and chilly. temperatures, upper 40s and low 50s. more rain overnight tonight, a range of overnight temperatures, most people in the 40s, though. morning gives way to clouds and afternoon sunshine and beautiful day tomorrow. the all-important seven-day forecast, 69 with a return of sunshine tomorrow. 66, a little on the cool side, but dry monday. and then tuesday, wednesday, as the warmer air rushes back in, maybe a chance of a shower there, and back up near 80 degrees by the end of the upcoming week. nice and warm. >> we like that. thank you, chuck. still ahead tonight, on our broadcast, how the capitals missed the park in new york city. ♪ [ male announcer ] from our nation's networks... ♪ ...to our city streets... ♪ ...to skies around the world... ♪ ...northrop grumman's security solutions are invisibly at work, protecting people's lives... [ male announcer ] ...without their even knowing it. that's the value of performance. northrop grumman. there was a lot of hitting on the ice today. >> a lot of hitting and pucks hitting the post, unfortunately, for the capitals. game one didn't go as planned against the rangers in new york. the bounces not going their way. as i said, a ton of capital shots bounced off the post, and rookie/goalie braden holtby led in a couple softees as the caps trail in a playoff series 1-0. braden holtby was so good against boston in his first playoff series, his second one off to a rocky start. second period, mike green trying to play some defense. and wraps him up here. but just bowls through him on his way to score. capitals down 1-0. later in the second, this was tasty. brooks like, a beautiful saucer pass. look at him flip it up and over the ranger sticks right to jason chumera. he goes right between the legs. we're tied at 1. then in the third, the rangers up 2-1 and adding some more. brad richards with the puck, and he goes right between the wickets of braden holtby. the rangers only take 14 shots, and they beat the capitals 3-1. the caps know they have to play better. >> they brought their game up a little. we need to come up and second round playoffs get amped up. and we weren't ready to respond. and so just got to regroup and get better. good thing hockey got to the seven-game series and it's not over. and it's not a one-game series. >> we didn't bring it tonight. myself especially. i think i had a tough time getting into the game. not, you know -- because of the stakes, just because of how the game went. didn't bring my level up when i needed to. and i'll work on that for game to. >> that's braden holtby. new redskins quarterback robert griffin iii made his first trip to fedex field as a member of the burgundy and gold. there was a massive pep rally for rg3 that really did have a collegiate feel to it, a very cool event. 20,000 fans were there. and rg3 treated the guys to a version of hail to the redskins. good to see the kid is already learning how we do things here. the event was a perfect ending to what's been a couple whirlwind days for the new face in the franchise. >> yeah, it is what you expect. but, of course, having that many fans out there, no one can expect that many people to be there. but a lot of excitement in the city of d.c. for the redskins, and, you know, i'm glad i can help bring belief back to the city. >> we kind of jogged out. i'm surprised you didn't slow down and soak it in. this is your day. >> yeah, i started walking, but then after i heard all the cheers, it made me want to run. he was ready to play so i decided to go ahead and jog out to the stage and get the thing started. >> so what -- i can't remember which article it was, because you've been all over the place lately, "sports illustrated," "espn" magazine, one of your teammates said you're a freak on and off the field. >> he doesn't mean in a weird way like some people would think when they hear that statement. but he's saying the things i do on the field can be seen as freakish with the abilities i have and off the field, i try to play the same thing to no matter what i am doing. if i'm going to be in the classroom, i'll try to be a freak in the classroom as far as the way i study, the way i work. so i just apply myself on and off the field. but, you know, right now it's more about on the field. >> reporter: what's going to be the biggest challenge for you in your first year now that you're a professional and getting paid to do this? what's going to be the hardest part? >> you know, just earning the trust of my teammates. that's always the hard thing. when you're top pick, a lot of people assume automatically you're the leader of the team. automatically that everyone has to accept the fact you're their quarterback. you have to earn their respect. and it might not be a hard thing, but that's the first obstacle i face, aside from running the offense. >> and many of those teammates were out there actually today. caps jersey. some other defensive backs there, as well. and receivers there to meet their new quarterback. redskins making more quarterback news this afternoon. parting ways with john beck and drafting another qb. the skins picked up michigan state's kirk cousins in the fourth round. it was a surprising move, but mike shanahan told cousins they just couldn't pass him up. here's a look at what the redskins have done in the draft, of course. rg3 the first pick for the skins at quarterback. josh le ribeus, kirk cousins, keenan robinson, a linebacker and adam gettis, offensive lineman out of iowa. they pick up alfred morris, running back from fau. and tom compton from south dakota. in the seventh round, richard crawford, from smu and jordan bernstein, a defensive back from iowa. and let's not forget, bryce harper, the 19-year-old hitting prodigy, making his major league debut tonight. this is interesting, because he really didn't play great in the minors, but they decided to call him up anyway. we'll see what he can do in the show. >> hollywood story out in l.a. against the dodgers. >> perfect fit, right?
