Musics biggest night had many highs and a few low blows. Well break down the grammys for you. Lets turn now to dave murphy and karen rogers for weather and traffic. Good morning. This is a little odd feeling and then its definitely a lot milder out here in philadelphia and yet as i walked across to the Camera Position on the terrace there were still some icy patches and that may be what you find this morning on your local sidewalks, driveways and even side streets. As we take a look at Storm Tracker, theres a little bit of rain mixing with some freezing rain up in areas north of reading pushing up toward allentown. The Winter Weather advisories have been lifted o outside of the poconos. That actually is going to go on until 7 oclock this morning up there. It expired at 5 00 a. M. In our immediate suburbs but despite the fact that you dont see any local active warnings, the temperatures are still in the process of rising. It wasnt that long ago that we were down closer to the freezing mark and there was a lot of ice that formed overnight and we still have some of that working its way out. After sunrise it will probably start to get better but as you look at current temperature up in allentown and reading were still in the mid 30s and we were only maybe two hours ago down below freezing there so the ice hasnt melted there yet and in wilmington that 44 a a little misleading because we were also down much closer to the freezing mark as recently as about 90 minutes ago. Despite these warming temperatures be careful because theres still lingering ice on sidewalks and thats the story this morning. Temperatures are rising and ice is lingering especially on sidewalks and side streets but maybe even in patches of main roads. We are going to get milder, though. 56 degrees by 8 oclock and kind of holding there, going up to about 58 by 3 oclock. The next issue is a period of two or three hours of heavy rain that will move in probably later this morning after about 10 or 11 oclock and could still be rain and when the kids get out of school by 3 oclock. Street flooding possible there. Karen, thats another issue. For now really the focus is on that ice on the roads. Thats right and i think you have to expect even with temperatures in the 50s that youre driving through slush getting to the main highways. Were looking here in chalfont bucks county 202 parkway at bristol road. Were still seeing a lot of slush on the roads and you need to be careful especially in your turn lanes. I think its pretty easy to slip. Lets switch over to the flourtown area. Weve got an accident on 309. Its just a single vehicle accident, example of what can can lap when you spin out here. This is approaching paper mill road northbound as you head towards the turnpike youre dealing with this off to the side and you can kind of see some of the slush and ice still on the sides of the road. Now this is lionville Chester County route 100 at 113. Traffic seems to be moving okay but still some slush in spots. How about this disabled vehicle, its on the shoulder here in conshohocken. This is the blue route northbound past the schuylkill. Penndot has been on hand trying to assist with this. The highway mostly wet. You can see the splashback as people are driving through but the ramps, overpasses weve got slushy spots. This is the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill. Again, mostly weather here but the highways 45 miles an hour speed restrictions still in effect and for good reason because weve got slushy spots here and there and the secondary roads lots of slush, tam. Thank you karen. Well can check back in with you later. Lets switch over to Annie Mccormick live in quakertown bucks county with more on the road conditions. Annie, when we first checked in with you this morning things were pretty icy hard to crack that ice. What is it like now . Reporter . Its still pretty much the same. You can tell its getting a little bit warmer so things are not as hard to crack as we should say. Take a look down here. This is grass with snow and then with light ice over it. And thats what youre looking at. Like i said earlier it was more like a cracked glass look but now its a little bit more wet you can see because those temperatures are rising but you really got to be careful because you do have a thin layer of ice pretty much over any sidewalk, parking lot, any pile of snow thats left over thats what youre seeing. Take a look at this video. This is video of what were a lot of drivers are going to wake up to before they head out on the roadways today. Thick ice covering cars, covering the windshields, almost two to 3 inches on some cars that were seeing. So, besides the fact you have to get in there warm up the car before you can even start scraping off thats ice, thats something youre going have to think about when you leave time to head to work today. Lets also take a look at the roadways right here. This is john fries highway and weiss road back out here live you can see the moisture on the roads. You can see that its actually puddling which is much different than what we saw this morning. Thats a good sign cause that means that things are warming up and also since the morning commute is starting to get along here things are moving around a little bit but that slush that karens talking about is something that you are seeing on the side of the roadways. Another thing that motorists are seeing that we saw earlier this morning are patches of fog in the area. We saw that coming unin the northeast extension here towards quakertown. Were still seeing foggy conditions around here as well so a couple factors you have to look out for before you head out this morning. Ice, fog, so much to look forward to before you head to work today. For now reporting live in quakertown, Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Shes like a poet, isnt she. She is and she knows it. All right, so Storm Tracker6 live double scan were mainly dry across the region this morning. Ill go in tight on an area north of philadelphia around the Lehigh Valley where some light rain is popping through. Now, this was highlighted in blue a short time ago and we were worried about freezing rain. Now temperatures in places like Kutztown Fleetwood and allentown are up in the mid 30s quickly pushing towards the upper 30s so were showing it as green rain but i still want to remind you that there are a lot of icy sidewalks is especially in Northern Areas where we were only recently do you know around the freezing mark and even down south in philadelphia where were up over 50 degrees theres still lingering ice and slush on sidewalks and roadways. We have cloudy skies. Theres the airport. Wet conditions down at the surface. If youre Walking Around on some of those untreated sidewalks and you are going to be slipping and sliding a little bit. Same thing on your drive way and once you get behind the wheel, certainly some lingering problems with slush and maybe even some ice on some roads. 55 degrees in philadelphia though so things are rapidly improving. Were up into the 50s and 40s across south jersey. Up in those northern suburbs still in the mid 30s so we really havent worked all that well on the ice up there just yet. And the farther north and west you go through the region the more prevalent that problem might be until we get past sunrise and the temperatures rise a little bit more, thats something to worry about and to be careful about. Future tracker6 then shows us the next issue. Its going to be cloudy for most of the morning but eventually by 10 or 11 oclock well start to see some showers begin to develop. Some of these could be heavier and for about three, maybe four hours today were going to have in any given neighborhood some periods of heavy rain. This could produce that ponding and puddling and maybe poor drainage area street flooding in some areas. Smaller streams could rise over their banks as well and by 2 oclock this is still coming down. If your kids are leaded to school, might not be a bad idea to give them something that can repel the rainwater coming home and this may still be going on at 2 30 or 3 00 when some of them are getting out. We are expecting an inch or more of rain in a lot of spots. The other thing about this as the rain is coming in from the west, this is future tracker at 10 oclock this morning showing you will wind gusts, were going get wind gusts up over 40 Miles Per Hour ahead that of rain and even as its coming through at 12 30 in the afternoon. Now once the vein gone the winds ease back a little bit but even later for the rush hour youll want to hold onto that Steering Wheel because were still going to be looking at winds gusting in the 20s to maybe 35 Miles Per Hour range. In the Lehigh Valley weve got that icy condition this morning on sidewalks and side streets so be careful. Midday rain as i just showed you and a high getting up to about 43. Down the shore, pretty much the same story. Midday rain, 45 is what well see down at the shore but getting all the way up to 58 degrees under cloudy skies with periods of rain in philadelphia. Winds southsouthwest at 12 to twenty five Miles Per Hour. Then overnight well be drying out but we dip all the way down to 33 degrees. Hopefully the winds dry off those roads and sidewalks by tomorrow morning and we dont have a refreeze. Your exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, 58 degrees is todays high, windy, some heavy rain. Of course some icy problems early but the big issue during the daytime period will be that period of rain coming through. Mostly cloudy on wednesday down to 46 and 41, mostly sunny on thursday. Good looking but cooler day there. On friday more clouds, but we start to bounce those numbers up again. 45 is the high on friday. And then we get to the weekend and were all the way up close to 60 on saturday, windy, milder and 54 and breezy on sunday. Maybe a shower on monday. So, a little icy problem this morning. Other than that, mild and then we deal with some heavy rain. Thanks, david. 6 12 now. Campus raid. Going outside live one more time we want to see what it looks like here. This is stump road at county line road. Even with temperatures above freezing weve got slush, weve got ice on parts of the roads even though the highways are mostly wet we see slushy spots there but certainly the secondary roads and the turn lanes youre going to be dealing with this as well am i slot this video this morning in camden county. Temperatures in the 50s but look at the sidewalks, completely covered in snow. You have some of the slush, the ice on the sides of the roads. Even where you have all that melting. I posted this on my facebook paper and you can share with me your morning commute as well. You see these temperatures, i mean, 55 degrees in the city but yet weve got a lot of that slush and ice. And this is just one of the problems out there on the roads this morning. Good morning, its 6 30 here on this tuesday. David is tracking rain but lets start with karen rogers with that mess on route 202. Karen. And it is truly a mess. Lets start with that live right now. Were in malvern Chester County. This is 202. 202 is blocked in both directions and heres why. Were hearing there was a plow truck that had his equipment raised and knocked down power lines in both directions on 202 near 29. Now what penndot zooming in now, were watching people driving in the wrong direction trying to get out of this mess. Thats never a good idea. So now were zooming all around but 202, we were watching them right now kind of pull up here, turn around and drive down in the wrong direction off the ramp to try to get out of this backlog. I mean, thats just such a dangerous situation on so many levels. Weve got slippery spots on the roadways and you can see people cutting across the traffic and trying to drive out here the wrong way just to get out of the backlog. This is 202 north of 29. You can see the emergency workers, theyre blocking both directions of 202 off and here you can see how people are just stuck at this point. If youre headed out stick to lancaster avenue, route 30 instead of 202 an accident way plow truck that is now blocking both directions of 202 near 29 because it brought down wires and you know downed wires arent quick to clear so were going have to see how theyre able to deal with this mess. In the meantime people are coming up with their own ways like driving backwards on a highway on a ramp thats slick which just has trouble written all over it so that looks like a mess with emergency workers on the scene. Traffic really jamming in both directions. Its not our only accident. Lots of accidents out there. West chester weve got one west chester pike eastbound at green lane. I just got off the phone with police. Theres one west chester pike westbound as well. Upper merion radnor road. Going outside live i want to show you what it looks like here. Doylestown road at county line road, one on the border of montgomery and bucks. Lots of slush and ice on the roads and the turn lanes. I just got off the phone with police in bucks county and they told me the hardest part on the highways was getting from their door to the car, dave, so thats one of the big problems out there with the slush. Yeah, weve had temperatures really rising overnight, karen, but they startd that rise a little late in the game and so weve had a lot of icy sidewalks, side streets driveways that really havent had a chance to recover yet and that is true even in and around philadelphia despite the the fact that as youll see in second temperatures are very far above freezing at this point. Wanted to show you Storm Tracker because we have some precipitation out to the west of us falling as freezing rain west of harrisburg and around gettysburg right now. As it moves towards the east it will encounter mild air and change over to all rain around here but that is the beginnings of whats going to be a wet period later today. Winter weather advisories have been expired across the immediate region. We have a freezing rain concern out in lancaster county. And Winter Weather advisory until 7 oclock up in the poconos but even in those areas no longer covered by an advisory there could still be some icy buildup that hasnt melted yet. But were on the way toward that melting. 55 degrees in philadelphia right now. Wilmingtons up to 44. Line in trenton. Tren 49 in trenton. The farther north and west you go starting around the i95 corridor and heading on up the better chance you have of seeing some of those icing conditions. So, temperatures are on the rise but ice is still lingering. I expect that will improve over the next couple hours. Sidewalks and side streets would be the big concern. And as we roll through the afternoon were going get mild with a high around 58 but between about 11 oclock and 3 oclock there is the chance of some heavy rain and that could produce street flooding. Matt ill have more on future tracker6 showing you the rain coming through. For now the issue is that ice and slush thats still lingering. Lets continue our coverage on that day. Lets switch to Annie Mccormick with a look at the morning commute in quakertown bucks county. Annie. Reporter david is right that ice is still lingering. You just heard katherine say that the police were saying the hardest part of the day might be actually getting to your car because youre dealing with ice like this. This is snow covered with ice and it is over grass. And take a look. Thats the type of ice youre seeing and this is how thick it is. So, when youre actually going to your car thats going to be some of the problems. Take a look at this video, too. This is going to show you what youre going to have to do if you have to drive to work. Once you actually get into your vehicle you have to warm it upbroken take that ice scraper off to your car and of course you have to clear all of your windows for the safety of everybody on the roadways. That can take up to about 20 minutes this morning so you want to build in that time. Now, also today were dealing with on the roadways if you want to take a look back out here live you can see the slushy conditions. You heard karen talking about that as well. Things are moving great here on john fries highway by weiss road. This is in quakertown and you can see moisture, you can hear the moisture as the cars are going through but you can see a lot of slushy conditions on the sides and when that rain comes later today that david is talking about, all of this stuff thats around could really become a problem. For now reporting live in quakertown, Annie Mccormick, channel6 action news. Annie, thank you for that. And now we go a developing story. A masked gunman ambushed two friends walking along a center city street sending one of them to the hospital. Lets get those details now from Katherine Scott live where it happened at the 1500 block of locust street. Good morning, katherine. Reporter good morning, tam. Police say the victim is 38 years old. He remains in the hospital in Critical Condition and police say this all happened during a robbery attempt right here near 15th and locust. Lets go to video from last night. Here the scene where the man collapsed near the kimmel center. Police were called just before 1 00 a. M. And investigators say the victim had been at 15th and locust walking with a friend when a plan with a gun approached them and announced a robbery. He was wearing a mask. The victim took off running south on 15th and thats when the robber fired one shot hitting the victim once in his right arm. The victim kept running until he collapsed at broad and spruce by the kimmel center. When Police Arrived the victim was bleeding heavily and he was losing consciousness. Police took him to Hahnemann University hospital. Hes undergoing surgery. The bullet apparently hit him in the artery in the arm. Now, although hes critical, he is expected to survive. However, he lost a lot of blood. Reporter witnesses were taken to central detectives to be interviewed and police are looking for Surveillance Footage that they hope can help in this case. We are live in center city, Katherine Scott, channel6 action news. Katherine thank you for that. An autopsy today should reveal more about a womans death in allentown. Im erin ohearn at the big board with a flight mayor scenario for near 200. Flight mayonightmare scenario. They sat on the runway for at least three hours with no heating or air conditioning and only one cup of water only to find out later on that the flight was canceled. Been out there for nearly three hours. Three hours we were sitting out there. You can hear the frustration there. The delay started with weather issues but then a Maintenance Issue kept the flight on the ground and as you can see, the passengers were let off the plane where they were told they could pick up their baggage as well as vouchers for a hotel and food. But heres the can kicker. The hotel they received the voucher for was booked. Many were told they would be flown out at 9 00 a. M. This morning. Others were warned that there wouldnt be a flight for them until thursday morning. Tired hungry and frustrated many families tried to sleep on their bags while others still seemed in shock by what they say is incompetence and lack of organization by the airline. Everybody just really frustrated. Its 2 oclock in the morning many people have to work the next day. I got to work the next day and they think just giving me a 200 voucher would justify the situation where that doesnt help me at all because their next flight is thursday. All the Hotel Vouchers they gave us didnt work because the hotels basically told us look and theres no shuttle taking us to the hotel either. Its been one disaster after another. Its fantastic. Frontier, its a great air line. We called frontier and emailed to get some answers but have not heard back. One of those planes trains and automobiles moments. These poor people are still dealing with nearly 12 hours after they were supposed to leave philadelphia. So, hopefully the airline will get them out this morning cause that is a long trip. All right, erin, thanks for the update. 6 39. Accuweather with david. We have lingering ice around the region despite the fact that temperatures are rapidly rising in most areas. As we take a look at Storm Tracker6 live double scan a little rain out to the west thats going to be a lot of rain later in through the morning and in through the middle of the afternoon but its not here just now. As we take a look outside we have sky6, cloudy skies above. Looks like the main roads are doing pretty well with everybody up and down i95 in good shape and temperatures up to the mid50s now in philadelphia but once you get into those side streets and walk around on some of those sidewalks we could still have some lingering ice even in areas close to philadelphia and Delaware County and certainly points north and west. Temperature though is rapidly improving as i mentioned. We are up to 55 degrees in philadelphia. Its a little breezy out there. Winds running 16 Miles Per Hour. And temperatures across the region, well, theres a little bit of a change going on here. For one thing in trenton youre almost up to 50. It wasnt that long ago you were in the 30s. Wilmington has climbed to 44 but again a couple hours ago we were down closer to the freezing mark there. Reading has jumped up to 41 but only about an hour and a half, maybe two hours away from freezing there and allentown still only in the mid 30s. So, in and around philadelphia we did have a lot of icy buildup. Thats starting to melt but you might still be slick under foot or side streets. Definitely the case though the farther north you go where we still have those colder temperatures. South jersey also improving although earlier we did have some slush and some ice on some sidewalks and side streets there as well. Basically take care until we get a little after sunrise and then things probably have a better chance of improving. The next issue is the rain and it does look like after about 10 oclock and certainly through 11 oclock this morning we will start to see some of this rain plowing through. You could even see the first bands before that but its really after about 10 or 11 oclock and through to about two, three, 3 30 in the afternoon where we expect the main body of this rain to be coming through. Well have pockets of heavy rain. Most of you are going to get an inch or more and that combined with what was previously frozen ground and a little bit of lingering snow that still has to wash in to storm drains could produce some poor drainage area flooding particularly as his heavy stuff is coming through and maybe a little beyond. By 5 oclock this afternoon according to the models we should be drying out for the evening commute which is g might still have some backed up storm drains. A couple issues today. First, you have the icy start especially on side streets, sidewalks but karen has been showing us particularly in those northern suburbs there theres still some slushiness and iciness in the turning lanes of some kits and what have you and intersections. Then we have the midday soaker. Threequarter inch to one and a quarter inch rainfall coming through and that could lead to some street flooding. The other issue, as this rain approaches later today, the winds pick up and as its coming through there are going to be strong we could get gusts up to 40 miles an hour. Well wind up with a high of 58, some places could get 60. 58 is todays high, period of rain rolling through during the middle portion day. Mostly cloudy wednesday dipping to 46. Thursday is a great looking day with mostly sunny skies but a high of only 41. Thats as low as we go this week for highs because were back up to 45 with more clouds on friday. For the coming weekend a high around 60 or close to it in philadelphia with windy conditions on saturday. And sunday 54, partly sunny and breezy. So a pretty good looking weekend coming up and there might be a shower on monday. Okay, thank you, david. It is now 6 42 and a wakeup call. Governor christie faces the music back in new jersey for the First Time Since ending his president ial campaign. Karen. Look at the backup on 202. This is 202 northbound at 29. Both lanes of 202 weve got the northbound and southbound all traffic blocked due to a big accident. I was watching a minute ago and could see people driving the opposite way through traffic just trying to get out of here. Im going have the latest details for you on how this accident happened when action news comes right back. Welcome back. Back to our breaking news. 202 at 29, terrible accident and a mess in both directions. Yeah, and what happened was that we had a plow truck with its equipment up took down power lines and both lanes, both directions of 202 have been shut down and penndot playing around with the camera a little bit but we have both directions shut down and here as we zoom in you can kind of see the flashing lights right herely so, its been a mess on the roads and weve been watching people drive backwards trying get out of the backlog here so as we look live, this is northbound traffic, we were watching people turn around and driver in the wrong direction on the shoulder. We then saw people trying to cut across and drive on the ramp in the wrong direction. I mean, such a bad idea and susie trainer on facebook is in the midst of all this and shes been talking to us on facebook and saying that there were high power high voltage power lines that were down and police were making everybody back away because they were nervous about that. So weve got northbound and southbound all lanes blocked on 202 in malvern Chester County. Live on the scene you see the emergency workers out there. And now we see people kind of walking over the median right here and kind of standing around. Its unclear if theyre emergency workers or people just getting out of the cars. Theyve been sitting there saying what. I supposed to do now. Youre in the backlog. Usual they do is start to let a lane of traffic get by but the problem is in this case weve got cars there. Theyve got these downed wires then dont want anyone crossing them. Theyre keeping people waiting and you can see them kind of standing on the side of the road which is another reason why it would be bad to suddenly turn around and drive on the shoulder in the wrong direction. You got people standing there. Its just a west. 202 theyre going nowhere. Stick to lancaster avenues all right alternate. You can use route 30, lancaster avenue. You can use the turnpike instead. Weve got runoff but just so much slush on the sidewalks and the side streets so big problems out there but the biggest of which, tam is 202 shut down in both directions. Thank you karen.
