This is getting stuck is you have High Pressure to the north. A really expansive high. This acts as a wall so hermine cannot bust through that high so it essentially slows down, stalls and gets stuck off of our coastline and that is why youre going have a continuous flow around that low and the high to the north to pound the jersey shore as well as the delaware beaches. So, Tropical Storm warnings are in effect for pretty much all the way from georgia the carolinas and into virginia. At this point were still under a Tropical Storm watch meaning the potential is there for Tropical Storm conditions all the way up through long island but more than likely in our area this is either going to be put to a warning within an hour or even a hurricane watch. Meteorologist Melissa Magee is here to talk about the effects at the shore which are going to be damaging and significant. Yeah, this is going to be a big storm especially for our coastal communities adam as we go throughout the rest of our Holiday Weekend so well talk about the coastal threats. Heavy rain certainly a moderate concern when you have got the potential of a hurricane sitting just off of our coastline and just off shore. Coastal flooding however certainly remains on the high side. Same thing holds true for beach erosion at the coach and Power Outages because you get that constant onshore flow of moisture leading to not only coastal flooding but also the potential of some gusty winds. Expected wind gusts late saturday right into monday right along the immediate coastline 60 Miles Per Hour or higher inland locations could find 50 to 60 Miles Per Hour gusts and right along that 95 corridor youre close to about 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour wind gusts. As you move to the poconos and our northwest suburbs gusts from 40 Miles Per Hour or lower. So well talk about the impacts at the shore and the timing with this system. Weve changed the time line with this. Saturday morning looks to be low concern. Saturday afternoon the rain and the wind will really start to increase at that point. High concern as we get into sunday. Last thing into the holiday on monday before the storm system essentially rains itself out and weakens as we get into the day on tuesday. The key points and the take away points with this system minimal rain inland no big impacts along the i95 corridor and areas to the north and west. The shore however gets battered and this could lead to low lying evacuations. Well take a closer look at that and time out the rest of the system with the full and exclusive accuWeather Forecast. Back to you brian. Melissa thank you. With some uncertainty in the forecast people at the jersey shore are getting ready for anything and everything. Action News ReporterJeanette Reyes live in ventnor where hermine is on everyones mind this Labor Day Weekend. Reporter it certainly is brian. Matt pelman keeping tabs on things in the action news traffic center. Traditionally this is one of the busiest friday afternoons of the summer before the Labor Day Holiday but thanks to that pesky hermine were not seeing quite as many people as normal heading down the shore. Dont worry, though, there are still jams across the walt whitman bridge onto 42 southbound here passing 130 headed on down toward 295. The bigger problems come in farther along down around vineland. If youre getting onto 55 southbound watch out, there is a vehicle fire past route 40 taking out the right lane. So just single digit speeds there as you come away from elmer and head down toward vineland on 55 southbound, thats probably not a spot in which you want to be this afternoon. 47 the delsea drive could be a better bet. Some of you of course take the black horse pike or the white horse pike down the shore instead of the a. C. Expressway. Theres a crash on the white horse pike route 30 this afternoon at fleming pike so that also might not be the best choice. Back live in center city plenty of traffic here along the vine street expressway in both directions. And dont forget the off ramp from the westbound side of the ben franklin parkway is blocked now because of the made in america preparations. Rihanna is the headliner tomorrow night while coldplay is the big act come sunday. As of now, there is no weather contingency plan but organizers are keeping a close eye on hermine. Of course we are also keeping a very close eye on that storm which is a Tropical Storm right now but could become a hurricane once again. And thats the concern. Meteorologist adam Joseph Standing by with the latest on hermine. Hi adam. Guys it looks like it will transition back to a category one hurricane when its just off of the delaware and new jersey coast early on monday morning. Tropical storm the watches remain in effect for the entire Shore Community and the delaware beaches throughout the entire the weekend meaning Tropical Storm conditions are expected along with the possibility of many Power Outages along the shore and more than likely this watch will be upgraded to a warning or maybe even a hurricane watch as we get into the next hour. As we look at Tropical Storm hermine, the spin is still over south carolina. You can see all the tornado watches marching up the eastern seaboard as the circulation continues to ride right along the coastline but at this point the center of the storm is still inland and will remain inland until tomorrow morning when it will merge off the coast of North Carolina and southern virginia. This is 7 30 tomorrow morning when the clouds will start to increase in our area from the south to the north. Then it hits that very warm water off of the atlantic here. This is saturday 10 oclock at night when most of our area could still be dry so you may be saying where is the rain . The rain could hold off here until late saturday night or sunday. Then as the storm deepens and intensifies and closes in, thats when some of the rain starts to move in 8 oclock on sunday morning at the shore, cloudy philadelphia to the north and west and there you can see some of the bands wrapping around the center of hermine. At this point starting to turn into that hurricane at 10 30 and then as we get into sunday night and into monday morning, that is when well start to see again that circulation wrapping up, some showers working into philadelphia to the north and west and the coast taking the hardest hit. So as we take a look at future tracker rainfall totals on where were going to see most of the rain, it hugs the coast between about two and 4inches from Rehoboth Beach up to Atlantic City and even northern new jersey. In philadelphia we could see about threequarters of an inch so its not going to be that typical tropical rain far inland where were going to look at flooding in philadelphia or north and west. All the flooding looks to be confined to the shore communities. Now we look at the winds. Saturday at 4 oclock in the afternoon 41 miles an hour gusting winds at the shore coming in right off the water 24 in philadelphia. As we get into sunday morning those winds continue around that 40 miles an hour range at the shore, 20s in the city and then the winds start to crank up here during the day on sunday, sunday night 55, lakehurst 46 millville in the mid 30s for philadelphia and as we get into monday at t ha itself itself thats when the winds could hit 60 at the shore. So at the shore youre looking at 48 hours of a constant Tropical Storm force wind. That will create moderate to major flooding. The times of high tide were worried about saturday 9 40, sunday 10 07 and sunday night at 10 1717 p. M. Northwest suburbs for this Holiday Weekends some sun a shower breezy doesnt look bad north and west of philadelphia. I95 clouds period of rain and wind and at the shore for delaware new jersey rain strong winds and some serious flooding. The four day at 4 00 forecast temperatures tomorrow 79 degrees. Pretty decent day across the area with sun increasing to clouds. Then the storm closes in and stalls sunday monday at the shore, windy rainy, upper 70s for highs inland locations a lot of clouds, breezy with on and off showers. And then everything kicks out of here even for the shore on tuesday as we warm it up to 87 degrees. Well keep an eye on those watches and warnings Storm Tracker six and well have the latest in the next half hour. All right. Lots to keep tabs on adam thank you. This is waiter looks like right now in Charleston South Carolina where strong winds are whipping through and heavy downpours are flooding the local roads. This system left hundreds of thousands of people without power as it passed through florida and georgia overnight and of course action news is keeping a very close eye on how hermine will impact our Labor Day Weekend here. Yeah, lets get right over to meteorologist adam joseph at the big board with the latest from accuweather. Adam. Thats where the center of hermine is right now near Charleston South Carolina. You can see all the rain extending any other only from southern georgia but right into North Carolina. It is a Tropical Storm. Winds sustained at 50 miles an hour right now as it remains inland and should stay inland as we go through the overnight hours tonight and through tomorrow. In fact we close in closer to the outer banks of North Carolina where you can see the heavy bands of rain coming in. All of these white lines here are lightning strikes so some severe storms now beginning to push in. There are tornado watches for here. This is the outer banks right about there and we have the camera set here at Kill Devil HillsNorth Carolina and you can see the wet jetty here, the rough surf as well as the flag here that is blowing directly from right to left so some nasty weather all along the carolinas and well continue to track hermine as it moves to the northeast at 18 miles an hour. It will emerge off of that North Carolina coast just after 8 oclock tomorrow morning with winds of 50 miles an hour. Then watch what happens saturday going into sunday and monday. Those winds increase and by monday, it becomes a hurricane once again at t as it looks right now just off the coast of delaware and new jersey and two days later it is still almost in that same exact position so the problem here is theres a wall to the north of High Pressure so it gets blocked. It gets stuck. And thats going to churn the waters, churn the wind and that is going to create some damaging effects for all of our shore line. Well talk more about what that means for storm surge, for the flooding and how strong those winds will be coming up in full accuWeather Forecast. Brian. Adam see you shortly. Interestingly enough exit seven, which the the name of this beer is the Bordentown Trenton exit and sort of marks the line of demarcation where folks to the south in our area call it pork roll. North of that its called taylor ham just in case. Little bit of jersey trivia for you. There you go. I will reserve comment until i until we taste it. Yes, you try first. You got it. Alicia, thank you. Lets get another check on the roads right now. All right, matt is standing by with the update for us. Hi, matt. Trouble brewing in a few spots this afternoon thats keeping us from rolling as smoothly as wed like thats for sure brian and sharrie but ill tell you look at the 42 freeway. This is the scene by creek road and at times we are seeing some southbound volume but it is not looking nearly as heavy as it normally would on the friday afternoon before labor day. Still though there are slow speeds on southbound 42. Many of them in the 30s right now coming off the walt whitman bridge. Bigger deal on the black horse pike. A lot of slowing there along 168 and its due in part to the fact that clues Chews Landing road is shut down for emergency construction. A short chunk offer the black horse pike by the American Legion post. Its going to be closed possibly until tuesday and it is causing delays to spill back onto 168 the black horse pike. You want to stay up on evesham road as an alternate 98 to clues landing that looks okay. As does the white horse pike. We had an accident at fleming pike. That has cleared out as has our vehicle fire on 55 southbound as you were coming down from elmer toward Vice President you were seeing big delays. Now speeds in the 30s on site southbound but the vehicle fire luck is gone. Headed northbound on the new jersey turnpike as many of you do on a holiday friday afternoon watch out for a vehicle fire approaching exit nine taking out the right lane and the in the car lanes. That could slow you down. Plenty of slowdowns on the ben franklin parkway which is all closed this afternoon because of made in america preparations. All that traffic being forced onto the one lane of 20th street headed northbound. Look at the local vine. An absolute parking lot here by the new mormon temple. It is gridlock all around the parkway because of made in america preparations. Stay as far away as you can and well check it again brian and sharrie in the 5 oclock hour. Call your friends avoid the parkway. Exactly. Thanks matt. Meteorologist adam joseph has the Holiday Weekend forecast and the latest on Tropical Storm hermine next. Meteorologist adam joseph you were talk about the fact this is a Tropical Storm spending so much time over land. You said the conditions are perfect to reform as a hurricane. As a hurricane once it leaves the coast of North Carolina and hits very warm waters just off of the virginia coast and thats whats going to deepen and strengthen this storm yet again. As we take a look at the very latest, this just in, the Tropical Storm watches, no longer in effect. Tropical storm warnings now in effect warning mean yes, it is definitely youre going to feel the effects of a Tropical Storm along the shore here all the way from new jersey of ocean county southern Burlington CountyAtlantic County cape may county, even as you go into salem, Cumberland County and all of delaware throughout the upcoming weekend. These are the areas that have the high likelihood of seeing Power Outages because of very strong winds. Storm tracker6 live double scan the center of the storm right now between Savannah Georgia and Charleston South Carolina. Winds sustained at 50 miles an hour. A lot of rain still ahead of the Actual Center of the storm and that storm will continue to carve its way through the carolinas over the next 12 to 18 hours. But for us here tomorrow morning youre going to see some breaks of sun so youre going to wake up tomorrow and say its not a bad start to the Holiday Weekend but then the clouds start to increase here tomorrow afternoon with the first area of rain starting to develop in southern delaware and the southern tip of new jersey. Then as the storm starts to crank up to our south and east, the heaviest rain is really going to hold off until sunday morning at the shore. Thats when we start to see those bands of heavy rain come in but notice its still cloudy and dry in the inland locations on sunday morning. Even throughout the day on sunday inland locations it is cloudy, it is fairly dry. Its not until sunday evening, sunday night that we start to see the rain pull back into that i95 corridor and there will be a sharp cutoff. You may not see much in the way of rain allentown into the poconos throughout the upcoming weekend and then as that storm sits there off of the coast monday morning it is still seeing some rain and showers philadelphia heavier to the south and to the east. So, future tracker rainfall totals will show again the farther north and west you are, the better likelihood youre going to see very little in the rain this Holiday Weekend. About a tenth of an inch in allentown. The same for reading and the poconos. Around threequarters to an inch for philadelphia so were not looking at flooding right now in inland locations. Its all going to be confined to their shore where we could see between two and 4inches of rain. So, at the shore, this is the biggest problem. Late saturday through monday, 48 hours or more of heavy surf with that on shore wind because the storm is going to stall. Waves will be nine to 12 feet breaking on the sand. Winds gusting over 60 miles an hour for over two days straight. The worst will be sunday night into the day on monday. On top of that, we are looking at a storm surge all along the atlantic of two to 4 feet above the ground meaning if youre standing at the edge of the water you can expect a rise of two to 4 feet of the water just by that wind pulling it in around hermine. But for tonight lets talk about the good here as well. Beautiful night, very comfy, 58 to 67 degrees and again, for your saturday tomorrow, temperatures in the 70s, low humidity. It starts to turn windy along the shore in the afternoon but overall north and west of philadelphia fairly bright so if you have outdoor plans tomorrow across much of the area it looks rain free. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast it all goes downhill, though. Saturday night into sunday and especially monday from the shore backing into philadelphia, again the biggest effects will be along the shore especially sunday into monday and then that Tropical Storm or hurricane, whatever it may be by tuesday starts to weaken and move away. 87 degrees. And then we have a heat wave on the way. At the middle to end of next week way above average humid as well with temps in the lower 90s. This is going to continue to change with the track.
