Tomorrow. Thousands of people lined the streets to greet the pontiff. [speaking foreign language] first time the pope has ever visited the city which is the capitol of the province where the castro brothers grew up. The pope celebrated mass urging the faithful to give of themselves and to be selfless. He also made a big reference to the religious restrictions in cuba. I know that the church in cuba works in difficult conditions to take everyone, even in the most remote places the word and the presence of christ. Today happens to be the anniversary of pope francis decision as a teenager to become a priest. He urged the people in cuba to be willing to change and to be willing to dream. All of this coming as the u. S. Decides how to proceed with americas economic embargo against cuba with president obama possibly allowing the un to condemn that embargo, a move that could end the 54year old restriction. So, curious see how that all pans out as the pope makes his historic trip to cuba and comes to the u. S. Tomorrow, sharrie. Yeah, keeping our eye on that. Alicia thank you. Now to the latest in the criminal case against Pennsylvania Attorney general Kathleen Kane. Just hours ago, her law license was suspended by the states highest court. Now kanes ability to do her job is up in the air this afternoon. Action News Reporter david henry is live in the Satellite Center watching this story for us. David reporter hi. She is facing those criminal charges and now has temporarily lost her license to practice law but the legal experts weve consulted with say nothing here legally prevents Kathleen Kane from continuing to hold the office of Pennsylvania Attorney general. Kanes lawyer says the temporary lifting of her law license jumps the gun because she hasnt been convicted of any wrong do, only charged. Kane is facing criminal charges of perjury and obstruction for allegedly leaking grand jury documents to the media. She has pleaded not guilty and bound to remain in office. The Supreme Court ruling says this order should not be construed as removing respondent from elected officers is that limited to the temporary suspension of her license to practice law. Pennsylvanias constitution requires that the attorney general be a member of the bar. She has not been disbarred only suspended. The law professor says the Supreme Court has teed it up for state Senate Republicans who want kane out. He says with a suspended license they may be able to argue that kane is no longer competent to be attorney general and should be removed. That would take a twothirds majority vote. Kanes lawyer say all this is going on ahead of the game. They have issued a statement saying there is another side of the story the public has he never heard. When general kane is given the opportunity to be heard, the other side of the story will finally come out. We are confident that once that happens, general kane will be exonerated. And just moments ago we got another statement this one coming from Kathleen Kane herselfly she says i continue to maintain my innocence and continue to keep fighting while serving out the rest of my term in office. Her next Court Appearance is scheduled for october 14. So far no trial date has been set. Live in the Satellite Center, david henry, channel6 action news. Rick. David, thank you. Turning to sports now, both the eagles and their fans still reeling after yesterdays ugly loss against the cowboys. The birds had a lot to prove on the field at the linc but they walked away empty handed on their home opener. Yeah, and many eagles faithful directed a lot of their anger at head coach chip kelly and today kelly explained himself and talked about whats next for the team. Jeff skversky live at the Novacare Center with more on that for us. Jeff. Hey, jeff. Reporter hey, guys, pathetic embarrassing, those are just some of the words eagles coach chip kelly and his players have used to describe this ugly loss against the dallas cowboys. Chip kelly, though, after watching and grading the film today, this morning he feels like its fixable. Lets hope so cause this was ugly. The eagles offense just cant get anything running right now. Demarco murray, the eagles star running back off to one of the worst starts in nfl history by a running back. How about just 11 total rushing yards in two games, this from the defending rushing champ and just like eagles fans, murray visibly frustrated last night at the linc. Sam bradfords day doomed, too. Bradford accounts for three turnovers including an interception in the end zone. Bradford has as many turnovers as five other nfl teams combined. Its a brutal start by your zero and two eagles. I mean, i dont know how the players felt. I was embarrassed. And thats not the way were supposed to play football and thats not what were all about but we didnt we didnt play well yesterday and i was embarrassed on how we played yesterday. Our message is we felt like we he prepared well and played well in the preseason. We didnt play well in the first half against atlanta. We didnt play well at all against dallas. That team that played in the second half against atlanta is the team that needs to show up this weekend against the jets. Reporter they better or theyre in big trouble. Heres the bottom line. Only 12 percent of teams that have started zero and two in the nfl have gone on to make the playoffs. The eagles have done it three times in their history and they are going to need to do it for a fourth if this season is going to be successful. Well have much more coming up in sports at 5 30. I dont know if people are scared to go out of their houses with the big week were having on the way. However on the vine street expressway it is already a slow go this afternoon. Westbound from broad street out to the schuylkill, doesnt help us out that people are congested getting off of the westbound vine attempting to head towards the parkway which they cant do because thats now shut down in its entirety. Happened a little bit early. Happened over the weekend that they closed the outer drivers. Inner drives have been closed since late last week but the parkway now shut down in its entirety until after the papal visit. Surrounding streets like local vine here are all congested, so are the drives, the kelly and mlk headed in towards the Art Museum Circle backed up. Stay over on the schuylkill expressway itself. Get off of my gosh darn stage and stay off. Put him out of the building. Put him out. How dare you. Miss patty reminding everyone that she is 71 years young. Shes no nicki minaj or miley cyrus she says. Now, back to the show where she did apologize for her language. That little bleep we had to put in there. Im so sorry you heard me say a bad word. Im so sorry. Always a class act and you know what, Patti Labelle telling it just like it is. Yes. That guy started like undressing. She was like thats not happening here. Oh, no. Not on my show he. Not in my show. Alicia, thanks. Thanks alicia. Lets get an update on the commute home one more time. Lets check in with matt pelman in the action News Traffic Center this monday. Hey, matt. We dont want any drivers saying any bad words this week although there might be a temptation. Good luck. There are a lot of closures and theyre starting already. Noplace is more of a beehive of activity in preparation for this weekend than the ben franklin parkway. You can see the scaffolding going up for the jumbotrons. Weve got tractortrailers filled with supplies and because of all those things on the parkway theres no traffic allowed on the parkway now in the inner or outer drives so the parkway is shut down in its entirety through sometime early next week and that means that surrounding streets like you can see the numbered streets here, local vine are grid locked. Just a sea of taillights because people have to use the surrounding streets since they cant use the parkway. Up around the art museum the kelly and mlk drivers are backed up headed into eakins oval because of the closures and delays are spilling back onto the vine street expressway which is extra heavy westbound this afternoon and we got word from penndot this afternoon that most of the ramps off of the vine street expressway are going to close now on thursday night. Most of our other highway closures take effect on friday night at 10 oclock including the vine itself, the main lanes as well as the schuylkill and the ben franklin bridge. City avenue is going to close at 10 oclock saturday morning and then it wont be closed around the clock but it will be closed most of the day saturday and most of the day sunday. So, well be talking about all those closures throughout the rest of the week. Here on the big picture, just mostly normal delays this afternoon. That broken down truck on the ramp from the schuylkill eastbound to 26th street southbound is now gone but we have a broken down truck here along 95 southbound at the blue route. Luckily, though, its in the gore point. Well check it again rick and sharrie in the 5 oclock hour. Thank you again matt. Lets go outside and look live from sky6 hd at the ben franklin bridge its a cool monday evening and feeling falllike as we get closer to fall. Yes, very cool today.
