He has a long history of allegedly stalking and then sexually assaulting the women in his life but his 16 year long crime spree ended last week when he was shot and killed by police in florida who say that he was planning to murder his ex. The question now is why this wanted felon was released from a philadelphia prison and allowed to walk free instead of standing trial for his crimes in florida. This is the scene of a gun battle in lakeland florida last week where police shot and killed 42yearold david cuevas. Officer in the parking lot raced his rifle fired a couple shot its. Police had an active warrant who they say brutallily raped his exgirlfriend at gun point in a hotel in january before fleeing to philadelphia. Now action news has learned cuevas was arrested three times in philadelphia back in 1998 for Crimes Involving two Different Girls who were both just 16 years old. Cuevas was 26. The charges included stalking, harassment kidnapping and rape. Then 16 years later he was arrested again here in philadelphia this time for the january rape. Knowing that he was a flight risk i believe we did the right thing in requesting 3 million basement the d. A. s request way granted but then 11 days later and in spite of the d. A. s protest philadelphia judge Frank Palumbo lowered the bail to 35,000 and cuevas walked out a free man. Youll have to ask judge palumbo why he saw fit to make it 35,000. Reporter florida Law Enforcement say cuevas drove down to florida in this car and texted his exgirlfriend planning to kill her. He said multiple times throughout the day that i will make all the pain go away. To me thats clear his intentions to kill her or kill himself. Reporter when police tried to apprehend cuevas they say he pulled out a 9millimeter handgun from his back pocket. When he pulled that gun they had no choice. Reporter in wave car and hotel room they found several rounds of a. M. Mission handcuffs rope and duct tape they say revealed his intents to conduct another violent crime. Police describe this as a running gun battle. Detectives fired 18 rounds hitting cuevas 17 times. Fortunately no one was else was hurt. We did reach out to the judge to ask him why he reduced the bond for a known felon n a statement the court said to us we are aware of this situation and the decision is under review but we cannot comment on it at this time. The man went by the nickname gooch and his date eventually went back to her house and thats where he allegedly stole some of the womans jewelry and that car a 2007 red Toyota Solara with jersey plates jsrygrl. School officials in south jersey have released video avenue bus aide allegedly stealing from preschoolers. Millville police say 33yearold rosa rios stole both bagged lunches and lunch money from kids who ranged in age from just three to five. Officer Robert Wilson was gunned down in a shootout with two would be robbers. Tonight those men are in custody.
