Happening today Opening Statements scheduled to begin in the corruption trial of Philadelphia District attorney Seth Williams. The full jury wall was select is there selected yesterday. Now its time to try the case which the judge thinks will last somewhere between three and four weeks. Opening statements are set for this morning and then prosecutors will call their first witness. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams will be back in federal court this morning for Opening Statements in his bribery and corruption trial. Williams faces 29 federal charges accused of taking more than 100,000 in gifts and Luxury Vacations in exchange for favors to two local business owners. Hes also charged with miss spending 20,000 designated for his mothers nursing care. Williams has maintained his innocence. Jury selection took one day, eight hours to whittle the jury pool of 137 people to nine southeastern pennsylvania counties down to 12 jurors and four alternates. The jury is made up of 10 women and two men. Two of the women are africanamerican. Williams played an active role in the final selection process. While williams remains District Attorney and is still accepting his salary, he is not seeking a third term. His First Assistant took over daily operations. His law license has been suspended by agreement with the state supreme court. And if he is convicted, williams faces a maximum of 20 years behind bars. Testifies corner ed jacobs says his client was reacting in fear that he was being arrested for his late wife April Kauffmans murder. No, im not going to jail for this. Reporter dr. Kauffman has never been named a suspect in the 2012 homicide. Jacobs argued his client never pointed the weapon at police. Prosecutors called kauffman a flight risk and danger to the community. Last week investigators seize is there medical files weapons and cash after they also served search warrants at kauffmans residences including homes in Atlantic County and philadelphia. The one search warrant that we have, keep in mind there are five, refers to a couple of species of Healthcare Fraud but also refers to a homicide obviously the April Kauffman homicide.
