So, this is what we can expect. As far as accumulating snow, this will only be in the northwest suburbs from now and were not looking at much. Were looking at about a coating to an inch of snow. The problem tonight, though, untreated surfaces are going to be slick with that warm air moving in the upper atmosphere, that change first happens to sleet and then freezing rain so that ice is my big concern as we head through the evening hours. The biggest concern for this will be where the cold air holds in the longest and this will be all areas really north and west of the pennsylvania turnpike, through the Lehigh Valley and the poconos. This is where we could get a pretty light glaze of ice, about. 10 of an inch to. 5 but that could cause more problems with the icing. Its about the temperatures. For details and the time line lets head to adam. Cecily southern areas along the shore temperatures are already bouncing into the upper 30s, Atlantic City airport at 36 degrees, wildwood 37 degrees but Millville Dover flirting with that Freezing Point and even though you see your temperature bump to, say, 33, 34 degrees, you can still have some freezing rain because its going the take extra time this go round to warm throws surfaces because of that extreme arctic air we had the last few days and in fact its still in the 20s wilmington, philadelphia, up through the Lehigh Valley. But well see that rise be quicker and quicker as we go through the late evening and overnight hours. In fact, we start to really jump it up between 10 oclock and 1 oclock in philadelphia. 35 to 40 degrees and then by 7 oclock in the morning, our temperatures up to 45 so were expecting a 15degree rise in temperature overnight tonight with that southerly wind and that change to rain, the timing central parts of delaware and southern new jersey its happening now along the shore and continues to work to the north at 7 00 p. M. For wilmington, philadelphia, up through trenton between about 7 00 and 10 oclock tonight and then those far northwestern suburbs near the Lehigh Valley, northern bucks county, parts of red and the poconos, 10 00 p. M. To around 1 oclock in the morning. Future tracker will show by 1 oclock tomorrow afternoon, though, as low pressure rides to our north and west, we will see a very heavy area of rain passing through the region. About a twohour window of heavy rain tomorrow, about a half inch to an inch and that could lead to some flooding on the roadways and smaller streams. Rick, when meteorologist cecily tynan comes back shell time this exactly for you on future tracker in that full accuweather forecast. All right adam well check back with you a little bit later. Our coverage continues tonight with action News ReporterChristie Ileto live at Independence Mall with how people are dealing with this latest mess of wintry weather. Hi, christie. Reporter hey, there, rick, yeah the snow has tapered off for the most. The snowfall earlier has left some very snow packed and slippery sidewalks and then you take a look at market and sixth and its kind of slushy here out on the roads and many of the people that we spoke to have really saying theyre trying to make the best of what Mother Nature has dumped. Wearing hats and wearing gloves. Weve been going around to different museums. We had lunch in the area and it really its been wonderful. Reporter for some mondays snow showers are an added bonus to the holiday. Its fun. Its cold but still cool. Reporter do you feel like you wish it happened on a school day instead of a holiday. Yes. Yes. Definitely on tuesday. Reporter action cam was across the city as flakes cloaked the campus of Temple University and along main street in manic. While a steady stream of snow blanketed olde city streets and left the roads slushy along the schuylkill expressway any challenges youve had behind the wheel so far. Just minor ones but no big deal. Reporter you said it was slippery. Its slushy. Its not real snowy. Its more ice. I like the snow but i dont really like it cause its too cold. Im ready for spring. Reporter i think a lot of people probably feel the way claire does and are ready for some warmer temperatures out here after all of the snow and cold weather weve been dealing with. Reporting live at Independence Mall, Christie Ileto channel6 action news. Rick and monica. Thank you christie. Todays snow as you can imagine caused some traffic troubles in delaware as well. The action cam in wilmington where cars and trucks were struggling to navigate the slippery hill on maryland avenue. And the jersey shore also got a dusting of snow today. This was the pretty scene in cape may along the washington street mall. Nora muchanic will have more from the garden state for us coming up tonight at 5 30. Now taking a live look at the roadways, rider now right nw mobile6 driving on broad street, city hall to the right. As you can see traffic is moving at a pretty steady clip and looks like the roads have been plowed and seem to be passable. But visibility could be a problem as the snow starts to turn over so you do want to be careful as you head out and about but again, penndot and much of the city has been taking care of the roads throughout the area. A hundred thousand tons of rock salt to keep roads free of ice and slush tonight. Were keeping an eye on the highways and by ways for you. Right now matt pelman is keeping an eye on the highways as well and hes live in the action News Traffic Center with more. Hi, matt. Good evening, monica and rick. Yes, indeed i think if you head out this evening youre going to be okay. Youre not going get snuck a snow drift or anything like that but you most likely will pass some sort of issue because weve seen a lot of minor fenderbenders out there and were seeing plenty of slowing here on 422 westbound lanes hard to get into too much of a problem when youre going this slowly but theres a lot of volume, a lot of people creeping along in the westbound lanes from 23 on out to past oaks. This is 95. Looks a little bit more just wet here, a little bit of slush. Travel times are basically what they are mos most afternoo. People are slowing down because of the inclement weather. Visibilities are down as rick just said. This is the scene in center city along the vine street expressway. Eastbound drivers tapping their brakes headed toward 95. Mostly just wet in the main lanes of 42 here in bellmawr Camden County but really watch it on the ramps. Weve had a number of ramp accidents in new jersey this afternoon. Well check it again, rick and monica, in the next half hour. Thank you sir. And of course you can watch double scan radar as that snow turns to rain without ever leaving your couch much head to 6abc. However, they often delay getting care for hours or even days because their symptoms are different from men and often subtle. Men can have different types of heart attacks. One type is where they have intense spasm of their heart artery. Risk factors like diabetes and depression also tend to impact women more than men and surprisingly they are worse than men at getting followup care. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take and if you have any medical conditions. So talk to your doctor, and for details, visit jardiance. Com. Time for accuweather. Meteorologist cecily tynan halls the latest on that wintry mix out there but the good news is theres a light at the end of the tunnel. Thats right. Everything will eventually be changing over to all rain as temperatures warm in the overnight hours. But double scan live showing that we are having a messy evening commute. Hopefully the roads arent quite as busy since it is a holiday but that sleet, freezing rain line has now pushed through the i95 corridor and its heading towards jenkintown so the schuylkill expressway, the blue route right now, intersection at media i95, route 30, the new jersey turnpike this all experiencing the sleet and the freezing rain. The good news is weve already had snow pack so actually freezing rain on top of snow, the snow can provide a little bit of traction. Its better than just getting that freezing rain over the pavement. As we zoom in across south jersey, you can see there we still have that rain line just kind of hanging around the garden state parkway but as the warm front lifts up to the north we will get this push of very warm air. Well see that line advancing to the northwest as we head through the overnight hours. As far as snowfall amounts, pretty light to moderate event. Dover reporting 1. 8, Bear Delaware 1. 5, lindenwold in Camden County 1. 5, cape may courthouse 2. 1inches of snow this morning and drexel hill reporting 1 inch of snow. Temps really tell the story inform wildwood its 39 degrees. Weve got winds really off the ocean generally out of the eastsoutheast. 40 in beach haven. Philadelphia Still Holding below freezing at 28 degrees and the northwest suburbs 21 in allentown and reading. The poconos 16 degrees so that colds air will be holding on the longest in the northwest suburbs and thats why that area will get the most significant icing. Now satellite6 along with action radar showing what were dealing with right now. Again, its a warm front thats lifting through our region. So we have that warm air overriding the cold air at the surface so thats why we get that changeover to sleet and freezing rain before the complete changeover all to rain and a wider view showing the next part of this storm system that low pressure is near jackson and this has a cold front that has been provide something Severe Weather with severe thunderstorms and even tornado watches and warnings and that cold front will be pushing through here during the day and that will bring us a round of some heavy rain. So future tracker showing around 7 oclock tonight still have that icing around the i95 corridor. All rain across south jersey and southern delaware. By 11 oclock, the icing concerns still across parts of the Lehigh Valley and berks county and then it will all change over to rain and then look at 8 oclock tomorrow morning. Temperatures in the upper 40s and the 50s, a break in the action with just some drizzle and then around midday is when we get that heavy band of rain but then it moves out very quickly by the evening commute. So, the heavy hit of rain, maybe a thunderstorm but look at the high tomorrow. 59 degrees. Yesterdays high only 20. And then on wednesday it will be breezy with some sunshine, 46 degrees. Thursday we cool off, mostly sunny skies with a high of 40. Friday 45 and look at the weekend. What a difference a week makes. 58 degrees, lots of clouds, perhaps a shower. Adam will let you know if we keep that mild air for the second half of the weekend coming up in the full accuweather forecast. Guys. 40degree change in the weather, wow. Big change. Thank you cecily. Thanks cecily. Lets take a break and be right back with more. Stick around. Action news continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, Rick Williams and monica malpass. Hello again. Heres whats happening on action news monday night. A mixed bag of precipitation scattered across the area is making for a messy president s day. We have Live Team Coverage coming up. Also a mystery in Lehigh County when a womans body was found in a dumpster. What police are saying. And the death of Supreme CourtJustice Antonin Scalia and the nomination for his replacement has sparked a battle between democrats and republicans. Where it stands tonight. We are continuing to track the latest winter storm for you moving through our area right now. As you can see through our live mobile6 camera at the schuylkill expressway westbound roads are slick making for a bit of a slow go, slower than normal anyway. There is a 45 miles an hour speed restriction right now on all major roadways tonight. Snow has been falling steadily since about mid morning. Well, not much is on the ground still creating slippery conditions for drivers and pedestrians at this hour. The system isnt only packing snow. Were also seeing ice and rain, quite a mix is happening right now. And we have Live Team Coverage for you this evening. New jersey correspondent Nora Muchanic is standing by in Burlington County. Matt pelman is standing by also with conditions on the highways and by ways for us but first lets begin with meteorologist adam joseph at the action news big board and the latest from double scan radar. Hey, adam. Yeah, we have a triple layer of colors here on double scan live radar. You have that gray and the white north of the pennsylvania turnpike. Thats where were seeing accumulating light snowfall. The blue area encompassing much of i95 southern new jersey delaware is the sleet and that dangerous freezing rain and right along the shore plane old rain that continues to try to push to the north but its making a slow progress. As we widen out on double scan live radar this is a warm front just to our south. Its that warmer air overriding that arctic air squeezing out precipitation and cold air is dense. So, it settles at the surface and takes a little extra time to kind of scour out there cold air where we work live and walk and drive so thats why youre seeing some icing. And then you have low pressure down to the deep south that will work to our north and west tomorrow and that will swing some heavy rain through here during the midday hours tomorrow. But in and around the philadelphia metro area in wilmington, in trenton, early evening, sleet and that freezing rain eventually will change to rain but thats not until between 7 00 and 10 oclock tonight where we have Winter Weather advisories still in place. Same thing up in the Lehigh Valley. Winter weather advisories up until close to that midnight hour. We will have that snow transitioning over to some ice and this is where well see a little more in the way of some accumulating glaze of that ice anywhere from. 2 to. 2. That plane rain doesnt happen until 10 oclock and 1 oclock in the morning. When we come back well take a look at future tracker for tomorrows heavy round of rain and any sort of flooding concerns in that full accuweather forecast. Thank you adam. Now lets get an update on the Road Conditions from matt pelman. Hi, matt, how is it looking. Monica on this president s day weve been watching the effects that the weather that adam lab talking about has been having on the roadways and its creating some slick conditions for sure as you head out here on 202 in Chester County, i would grant myself a few extra minutes for your travel especially southbound where youve seen some cars just poking along headed down towards exton with the slick conditions and some volume from time to time. This is the blue route 476 in delco. Weve had a couple accidents here in the southbound lanes approaching the route one media bypass so if youre directing your ford or lincoln to the blue route southbound take it especially easy. This is the blue route the schuylkill right by the blue route 476 and were seeing bunch of cars here in both directions going slowly. Again conditions are somewhat slippery. It is somewhat slushy. You can see were moving in each direction but were doing so pretty slowly as you pass 476. This is woodhaven road in the great northeast. Had an accident here by thornton road. You can see the accident is gone but theres still some slush especially as you go to change lanes. You have to watch it or youll lose control on this monday evening. Well check it again, rick, coming up in the next half hour. Matt thank you again. Speaking of travel conditions, lets take a live look at Philadelphia International airport through our sky6 cameras tonight. The airport is reporting delays on incoming flights of up to about an hour and a half. As always if youre heading out or expecting a flight to come in you should check with your particular airline. Heres a live look at conditions along cape may new jersey where rain is currently falling. This area did see some snow for much of the day, not much accumulation but now as we show you its switched over to rain. Management correspondent Nora Muchanic is standing boo any bordentown Burlington County tonight. Reporter nora many folks had the day off and 33 took advantage of it. Absolutely. After being cooped up because of the cold people wanted to get out. Whether it was a quick run to the store in the snow or a trip to the water park with the kids folks say they just had to get out of the house. We had a long period of time where we werent getting anything. Now all of a sudden here we are and its wintertime again. Reporter and so pretty as you watch the snow falling along farnsworth avenue in bordentown. Much the same along main street in moorestown, quiet and picturesque. We didnt go anywhere. I was cooped up yesterday. I want to get out for a few minutes go get something to eat. Reporter after two days indoors because of bitter cold temperatures it was time to get out and turn in the hats and gloves for swim suits with kids off from school today, parents headed to sahara sams water pork in west berlin. My gosh yesterday my son was bouncing off the walls. I needed to get them out absolutely. It was so cold yesterday when we tried to go to philly and he was in tears most of the time and then to come here today as you can see shes all smiles. Its helping save our vacation i have to say. Reporter its not quite the same as surfing at the jersey shore but kids were having a ball on the slow rider where the waves never stopped. At first you get nervous but then when youre on it youre like having a rush and youre just like just doing tricks and hoping not to washout. Kind of cold so ive been hanging out inside. Reporter how does it feel to get in this weather. G it feels hot so its good to get in the water. Perfect day to be here. Why be outside when you can be inside 80 degrees. Reporter back live i like how that man thinks. It was a lot nicer in there than it is out here but i dressed for the outdoors and so i learned something very important today. You do not wear long johns to a water park. Live in bordentown, im Nora Muchanic, channel6 action news. I can imagine. Thanthank you nora. Remember if weather or breaking news is happening in your neighborhood like it was in hers, just send it to us through facebook or twitter. Pretty scene there. Lehigh county officials meantime are trying to identify a woman after her body was found in a recycling bin in allentown. It was found yesterday afternoon in a parking lot near the 800 block of east tillman street. Police describe the woman as an asian woman between 18 and 30 years old. An autopsy is that scheduled for tomorrow. Gun sales have increased over the past couple of years here in delaware and in just the past two months, more than 12,000 backgrounds checks were conducted. According to the fbi data since 2000 circumstances background checks for firearms purchases have more than tripled. Gun store owners say people are buying guns for their personal safety. Now to the latest on the passing of Supreme CourtJustice Antonin Scalia. Flags across washington, d. C. Includes those outside of the Capitol Building as well as the white house and Supreme Court are at halfstaff tonight in his honor. This as a private plane believed to be carrying the remains of the 79yearold Supreme Court justice arrived at Dulles Airport early this morning. Scalias family requested that he be brought back to washington as soon as possible. Authorities say he died of Natural Causes and an autopsy was deemed not necessary. So, whats ahead for the remaining eight Supreme Court justices . Well, when they return from recess next monday, its business as usual with the high court continuing to decide various cases. However, tie votes will now back real possibility and in cases of a tie, the Lower Court Opinion will stay in place but the high court will issue no binding law for the rest of the country. And that includes major cases involving abortion and contraception as well as the case involving the president s executive action on immigration. Of course the death of a Supreme Court justice during an Election Year is a rarity and the president ial candidates arent keeping quiet as to what should be done. President obama has said he will nominate a replacement for judge scalia in due time, perhaps next week. Although republican candidates say the next president should nominate his replacement. This is for the people to decide. I intend to make 2016 a referendum on the u. S. Supreme court. In fact senators marco rubio and ted cruz say they will not vote for president obamas choice whoever it is. Meanwhile democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders say the republicans are blankly ignoring the president s constitutional duty to nominate a replacement. President obama said he would nominate someone to the bench and thats exactly what he should be doing and leader mcconnell should follow the constitutional process. The Senate Confirmation process for a Supreme Court nominee could likely take months. Mostly because republicans are vowing to block it. The only thing that both republicans and democrats seem to agree on is that the next Supreme Court justice could shape the court and the countrys future for decades to come. Monica. Thank you, rick. Progress is being made on u. S. Cuban relations for the first time in more than 50 years an American Business is going to build a factory there. The project has already gotten approval by the Obama Administration and cuban officials. The Small Company from alabama says they hope to assemble as many as a thousand small tractors every year for private farmers in cuba. And still to come on action news monday night, one of the biggest transportation hubs in new york city. Well explain what happened at Grand Central station today. Temples Mens Basketball Team is coming off its fifth straight win. How about that . Well talk about to head coach fran dunphy about his teams surge. Surge of warm air moves in overnight tonight. It is slow this evening as were seeing temperatures near 40 and below freezing through much of the area creating there icing concern. The latest numbers and also future track. Well have those stories and more when action news comes right back. Train ride nears new york city got thrown a twist today. The lights went out on the lower level of Grand Central terminal. Trains arrived on the uner level instead while the problem was being worked on. A transit official says a water pipe burst causing the outage. Powers gradually coming back on tonight. Turning to sports temples mens basketball is red hot right now. Jaime apody here with the man behind the success. It got two hot sports teams wow. We like when a team is spot here especially when its cold out. As depressing as our professional sports teams are our College Teams could not be hotter. With march on the horizon thats good news. I caught up with the coach today. Owls are 10 and three in sole possession of first place in the aac. Nine days ago won his 517th game passing john chain flee for most in big five history and yet he refused to acknowledge what we all know. Are you finally going to realize how awesome you are. No, no, im not. Im going to just take it for waits and ive been around a few years and had two great universities ive had a chance to work for and stayed in philadelphia all those guys that have gone before me who would have crushed that number decided to go other places so im very lucky, very lucky to have made my ca career in phill. What do you guys got to do. We need to win as many games as possible. We thought we had done enough last year and we didnt. We needed as it turns out we needed one more win. So, we dont want to leave anything to chance and theres only one thing that we can control to be honest with you and thats how well we play on each given night that we have that opportunity. Owls face top ranked villanova wednesday. More with dunphy at 6 00. As the owls surge the flyers fade. After knight last night they might be done. Five loses in just six games during a stretch run will do that to a team. Theyre six points back of the final wild card spot. They had two games over the weekend and scored two goals. Its all about the offense which frankly is offensive. Didnt get enough scoring chances tonight. That being said we had a game, a one goal game going into the third period and we just needed one push and we couldnt get that before they made it a two and three goal game. This time of year with temperatures plunging and a snow covered car im going have to dust off in the parking lot. What i need to see is some palm trees. They get my hopes up. Later this week we will see palm trees. Pitchers and catchers report to clearwater on wednesday. First workout on thursday so its time to start pondering the pitching rotation. What we know the phillies ace will be aaron nola who is only 22 years old. What we dont know is what the rest of it will look like. Jeff skversky sat down with him recently. Is it simple as aaron nola number one starter going into april when the season opens or are you not there yet. Im not there yet but i know that nola and eickhoff are going to be at the top of the rotation and velasquez. That will be one, two, three in your mind. I wont say one, two, three butter im kind of projecting them to be at the top of the rotation in the event that matt comes up with another deal somehow and gets another guy, we look like forward to i would be happy to have those three guys at the top of the rotation where we are right now. Not a lot of heavy rain, no icing concerns with temperatures near 50 plus degrees already tomorrow morning and then here is that window of heavy rain that comes in around 1 oclock. It sh only last about two hours but with this heavy rain and temperatures near 60 the ground still frozen, thats going to run off the surfaces and it could lead to some ponding on the roadways and some smaller streams could quickly rise but were not looking at any widespread flooding for tomorrow. And then by 5 oclock in the evening rush we starter to see those heavy rains move out and just some spitting showers with temperatures in the 40s.
