Hi walter. Reporter hey monica. As we take a live look at conditions at bear creek people enjoying themselves. Its easy to forget this past december was pretty mild. As a result several ski resorts in pennsylvania only had about half of their trails opened by christmas when they would have hoped to have had at least 75 percent opened but the cold is back as you mentioned and hopes have been renewed to finish the ski and snowboard season in strong fashion. Blue mountain was off to a great start opening its slopes a week before thanksgiving. It was the earliest opening day in Blue Mountain history. But then we had warm weather all the way through december and its only been within the last two weeks where weve basically have been 100 percent opened by this weekend. Reporter it has been tougher to keep the slopes snow covered at Bear Creek Mountain resort located in Macungie Lehigh county where its usually just a few degrees warmer than the poconos. A lot of times unfortunately those two or 3 degrees, four or five whatever it may be makes a huge difference in the ability for us to make snow or not. Reporter but the pennsylvania ski resorts have new hope in it seems old man winter made a new years resolution to actually do his job. With recent temperatures dipping under the 20degree mark conditions have been nearly ideal to turn on the snow guns. As a result, most regional resorts expect to have either all or nearly all of their trails opened by this weekend. And with the Martin Luther king and president s day holidays approaching, that is good news for the resorts and the skiers and snowboarders many of whom say this year is still better than last year deemed by many as too snowy and too cold. Last year i got out whenever the roads werent impossible. Which was rarely last year. That it was that it was my friend. Reporter either way 72yearold matt mcgran says a bad day skiing still beats a great day at work. Im still a kid having a good time and learning to enjoy it more and the more you do it, the better you get the better you get the more fun you have at it. All right. We have 24 to 36inch bases here at bear creek and in Blue Mountain and as long as temperatures remain below freezing during the overnight hours in particular, they still expect to count this ski season as a success. Reporting live from bear creek, walter perez channel6 action news. Thank you walter. Time to get a check of our action news traffic report tuesday night. Matt pelman standing by in the action news traffic center. It is a tuesday night and how is the traffic this evening matt . Not sure i would be considering the evening commute a success so far. We have a few issues that were watching out for rick and monica but this one no longer an issue. They fixed the traffic lights along south street at the schuylkill expressway. Still, though, youre looking at plenty of eastbound traffic here coming away from the roosevelt boulevard through this point south. Couple extra minutes on that eastbound travel time. Bunch of issues in new jersey this afternoon in robbinsville a crash along 195 eastbound side right by the turnpike take out a lane. And theyre still making repairs on that water main break in moorestown right by the Friends School blocking off main street in the process. Stick with Central Avenue or 38 as alternates there. Chestnut street also blocked as a result of the water main break. Chester avenue gets you around that. Watching a crash in runnemede Camden County along holly avenue at clements bridge road also one in winslow township Camden County along mays landing road at piney hollow road and in Egg Harbor Township a vehicle flipped over along the garden state parkway southbound past pleasantville but everything is off to the side so you can get by. That update on those septa trolleys this evening. The route 10 shuttle busing between 48th and lancaster and the malvern route because of a water main break an crash has us shuttle busing on the 15 between 41st and 63rd.
