Whats going on, listen, i didnt get through this stage with one of my kids until they were like 12 years old and its important for parents to understand what wakes them up or what gets them out of bed may be a nightmare, may be a night terror. They are very different thinings. I want to go through them with you. Night terrors tend to happen in the first part of the night like two to three hours after going to sleep. Your child is going to have their eyes open. Theyre going to be still sleeping but theyre going to look awake screaming. This is terrifying. Flailing. Ive had it happen. To you or and theyre going to be sweating. In the morning most kids will not remember this at all. Nitmares, on the other hand, tend to happen later in the night when theyre in r. E. M. Sleep. Theyll wake up crying, get out of bed and come to your room waking up frightened telling you, i ive had bad dream. Very common for kids to have these separation dreams, daddy, i cant find you. Mommy, i couldnt find you. Now if your kid is having a night terror, what should you do . First thing is stay calm. We le to say wait it out. Even though it feels like an eternity, most of them will last only one to two minutes, the second thing is they can be pretty violent when theyre in that phase so make sure they dont ju themselves and move them away from stairs.
