The terrorists are using psychological warfare. That is what this is. When they go into innocent people, they are doing it to change us. Change our democracy. Change our way of life. We cannot let them do it. Rosanna some people are criticizing the demographics unit. 90 come from the muslim do you think that were fighting we are fighting this battle with not at all. Commissioner brought in has done more than fight crime and terror then any police chief ever. He has made clear that it was not achieving its goal. We had other ways we could get the intelligence. Unfortunately, we should have had friends and allies in this fight against terror. We were giving people the message that they were lawabiding decent people. We need to be the very same people that give insight that there may be someone on the wrong track. One of the things that you are over the world now, lawenforcement is recognizing one of the best ways to stop terror is to deepen their relationship with the communities. We want that respect and information to be a twoway street always. Rosanna lets talk about crime. I know you put more Police Officers on the streets of new york. Crime is up 5 . No, crime is down. Lets get our facts straight. These are from the nypd. Crime is down about 3 overall for the major major crime categories. Shootings are down compared to last year. At the end of the year, the lowest number of total major crimes then we have had in 50 years. Number of murders in 50 years. There are folks, not you, folks in the media. Chris christie has done it. He has been shot down many times. Bill bratton said very pointedly. Every time he says crime is up in new york city, he is saying that the nypd is not doing their job. The statistics say quite the opposite. Rosanna serious crime is down. Shootings and murders are up. Shootings are down. Murders are up. Eighteen too many. I want to put it into his. Flashier we have the lowest number of murders and half a century. Year. The nypd has achieved something extraordinary and they continue to drive crime down. Number down. The overall success of the nypd is extraordinary. We added 1300 new officers. On top of that a lot, commissioner bratton has done a great job. You will see more police presence. It is a winning team already. It is a winning team. Now they will add additional going. Rosanna lets talk about homelessness. We see it. I saw four people, just in a half a block. Two of them, it looked like young people. I know you have a three year plan. What can we do right now . What i said, look, i recognize the reality. I was on the city council. I served for eight years. What i said the other day and i mean it sincerely, here is what is going on. Here are all the things were doing about it. The numbers in our shelter system have stabilized. Rosanna we see them more. The fact is, more and more because of the economic reality, people on the streets, not permanently on the streets, they go to shelter at night, during the day, you see them on the streets, our home was because of economics. They lost their job. The institute of civilization. It was primarily single man. What is it now . More and more families. Folks who are working or recently have been working. Todays housing market, they cannot get by. We have found new tools to get tens of thousands of people out of shelters and into housing. Rental subsidies. We Just Announced a huge plan for 15000 supported housing apartments. The kind of housing that help people that do have those problems. The problem is so many people are becoming dislocated economically. The constant flow of people into our shelter means we have to work every day. Governor cuomo today is quoted in the paper by saying that he thinks a homeless money. He says it needs better management by the de blasio administration. Do you think it needs better management or do you think we really do need more dollars . I think that it is time for the governor to step up. 2. 6 billion supported housing plan. This is what experts and advocates have been calling for years and years. To finally address the fact that we will take folks that are struggling. Cardinal dolan has spoken about this. Their lives have fallen apart. If we will help them get back on their feet, we need that Supportive Housing. New york city stepped up. Money matters. You cannot do that without money. We have had tens of thousands of people, and the shelter. We have gotten them to into real housing and out of shelter. We have stopped thousands and thousands of people from being evicted. That is not enough. I am the first to say this not enough. Rosanna it seems like we want it now. What do you do right now . It is heartbreaking to see these people. We are working with the archdiocese. There is a new approach. It is not a big shelter. It is a much smaller facility. Homeless who are on the street, it is a safer, more nurturing, more supportive environment. When folks come off the street, they are much willing to accept Mental Health services in Drug Treatment Services if that is what they need. We want 500 beds immediately. Such a great response. They are up and running already. On top of that, nypd and department of Homeland Services are doing something they did not do in the past. If you see a homeless person on the street, call 311. A team is dispatched to go to that homeless person. Figure out what is going on with them. See if we can get them into a safe haven or shelter. In the past, sometimes they were pushed from one place to that did not help anything. Not making the investments were making, you would see more people because of the economic reality. This is going to be a day to day fight to improve the situation. I have to be honest. I am not satisfied did i should have explained it to people better. We have a billion dollars to fight homelessness over the next few years. 2. 6 Supportive Housing plan. Now it is time for the state to step up and join us. Rosanna what is going on with you and Governor Cuomo . Why cant you two get along . We have known each other for 20 years. Mayors and governors have had to work together. Agreements and disagreements. Ed koch said when the governor of new york is doing something good for new york city, i will praise him. When he does not, i will say it. Rosanna use edited two times. It has been necessary. The state of new york and city of new york city ended the best rental subsidies that we have ever seen. After 2011, started to see the homeless numbers go up and up and up because i program is gone. Now he said the city of new york has to step up. That is my job to say to the people, it is time for the state to help 43 of the population that lives right here. Rosanna does your relationship with the governor for new york city . You have to defend the interests of this place. We know there are plenty of we have watched over the years. Silence about that does not get us anywhere. The only way to get things done for new york city is to call it out when they are not being treated fairly. Rosanna lets talk about the Horse Carriage industry. Reports today that you have abandoned the panel carriage horses in the city. Now youre thinking about scaling back moving the stable to central park. Word is that sand and youre kind of lobbying behind the scene of city council members. Do we have a definitive situation. This is between city hall and the Mayors Office in city council. The backandforth is part of the process. We are not there yet. Rosanna the people love them. Though polls show that people love them. It is not fair and safe to have these in walls on the street. There are ideas on the table. Until we see that there is some kind of plan, some kind of actual revolution, i will not speak to the hypothetical. Rosanna one of the people pushing for the disbandment the carriage industry. Very supportive of your nonprofit organization. Given 100,000. What i am asking is, can you step back when you are getting money from this group that wants you to limit or ban the carriage horse industry. This is what i believe. I said a long time ago. Horses do not belong on the streets of new york city. I am also working with the city council that has a range of use. Part of the giveandtake of democracy is trying to figure out. My wife lead this effort last year. She went all over new york city listening to what people have gone through. Any new yorker wants to see this it is extraordinary. This will tell you a lot about what is really happening in our cities and what we have to do about it. What we announced announce this week is something we have never seen before. When this is in place, you will be able to call and say i have a challenge or someone in my family or someone in my work as a challenge. Not only will you get a human being that will get you to your appointment, they will then followup to make sure that you get the treatment that you need. Rosanna what happens if this person does not want the treatment . That is always a challenge. Destigmatize it. I talked about my dad, my wife has talked about her parents and talked about the challenges our daughter faces. In the previous generation, with our parents, no one would talk about it. Our daughter came to us. We talked about it. The issues were out in the open. We could get her the help she needed did that was two years ago. Today, she is rising. Rosanna why did she shave her head . She had gorgeous hair. I love her hair, but what about those cheekbones. Rosanna mayor of new york city. It is amazing. It is amazing. It comes with its hassles. And a lot of it is not ultimately personal. Some of it is. People are really frustrated right now at this moment in history. They are worried about what they see around the world. The job of leaders now is to produce results. Mental Health Services on a really huge scale. Only will it help families stay together. When my dad started going downhill, our family got ripped apart. If we can help families stay together, it has to mean fewer people will end up in jail. Fewer people will end up in shelter. That will be incredibly important. It will mean for taxpayers, the investments we make a Mental Health to get peoples problems addressed early will pay off many times later on as well. We will not be paying for things that are already out of control. Rosanna what are you doing for thanksgiving . Every year we get together at my cousins house. We have a great meal. And then we have some sports. My wife is a gamer. She was an athlete in high school and she has not stopped. She got a little aggressive. You pay the price for that sometimes. Rosanna thank you.
