Police on long island are trying to find the driver of a stolen vehicle that allegedly police say a 32yearold man was driving about 6 20 p. M. Yesterday when his vehicle was hit by a chevy trailblazer. The driver took off on foot. The victim died at the hospital. Also happening today, new York City Council votes on stuffer penalties for hitandrun drivers. Before the vote, the mother of one victim spoke about her loss. These new laws would refine repeat offenders 20,000. It would also require the nypd to expand reporting hitandrun crashes to the city council and to the public as well. This morning, were seeing very clear video of a robbery at a cell phone store. Here you see two gunmen inside a tmobile store on 1st avenue on sunday. They forced two employees and a customer with a cane into a back room. They made one worker and customer get on the ground while they loaded bags with cell phone and cash. Brooklyn are looking for the man accused of stalking a 15yearold girl on the subway. A teenager telling police the man had been following her around the atlantic avenue station last wednesday. He then allegedly grabbed her arm and told her to come with him. The girl says the same exact thing happened yesterday morning. This time, she was able to take a photo. Today students at one Long Island School are going to go back to the classroom. Theyre uncertain, though, of what caused the fumes that sickened students and staff as well. This happened at west babylon high school. It forced the school to cancel classes. Katherine creag is at the school. Going back, hoping to get some answers too. This a day after 36 students and several School Staff Members went to the hospital because we want to show you this video. Emergency crews all over this campus. They attended to those people who felt dizzy. They told First Responders they had a sore throat. All of this happening around midday yesterday. Firefighters evacuated the school around lunchtime after a report of fumes had made dozens of people sick. Again, 36 students, several Staff Members went to the hospital. Heres what one of the students said. Take a listen. Very dizzy and they were like coughing. They didnt smell anything. They didnt see anything. All that happened was they could feel a Burning Sensation in their throat. Reporter and you just heard from the fire chief. The Fire Department involved in this, so is the police department. This is a large school. 1300 students attend it. Late last night, School Administrators decided there will be school and afterschool activities today. A fire broke out just about 90 minutes ago on dekalb avenue and quickly spread. Today in new yorks Kerry Barrett is there. Whats the latest . Reporter yeah, the good news here is there are no injuries. As you can see behind me, still a pretty active scene. This road is pretty narrow. There are five or six fire trucks still here. Getting in and out made fighting this fire tricky. The fire started at about 3 00 in the morning. The calls came in from the resident of this particular home. Flames shooting through the roof. The fire spread to two adjacent homes. These homes are very close. So fires in this type of situation have a tendency to spread quickly as well. It was windy this morning. That made fighting this a little bit more difficult even. No injuries at this point. The fire is out. Theyre kind of looking through, clearing up any hot spots at this point. The fire chief here says they dont have any reason to suspect arson. Of course, that will be part of their investigation. Some of the neighbors that we spoke to out here who were here when this whole thing started say they started to smell kind of an odd smokey, kind of electrical smell at about 12 30 this morning. They looked around. Nobody saw any smoke. They went back to bed. Then at about 2 00 in the morning, they say the smell started even stronger. A lot of them woke up, again searched their homes. Actually saw smoke coming out of a lightbulb. I dont know specifically if thats where this started. The investigation is still ongoing. Once again, we did speak with the fire chief and some of the residents. One of the residents was able to get us video of this fire as it first broke out. Well bring that to you coming up. Investigators just gave us this new photo of the alleged getaway car. Police say the man dressed in a suit and took off with bags of cash after a shoot outin sound view. Were told he confronted an armored car guard loading the vehicle yesterday morning. They say the thief pulled out a weapon, demanded money. The two then exchanged gunfire as people in the street ran for cover. All of us got down to the floor, and we called the police. Next thing you know, you know, i see people scrambling i see strollers falling. Im like, okay, whats going on . Well, no one was hit, fortunately. Police say the thief did get away with 78,000 in cash. Happening today, the widow of an nypd detective is marking the oneyear anniversary of his murder by creating a foundation in his name. It will include Financial Support for the families of slain officers. Detective ramos and his partner were gunned down in their patrol car last year. It happened just before 7 30 last night. The faa says a United Airlines flight was hit by a green laser. That laser came from about 14 miles southwest of the airport. The aircraft landed safely. Happening now, investigators trying to figure out what caused a Southwest Airlines jet to roll off the runway at nashvilles airport. The faa says the plane went into the grass as it approached the arrival gate. There were 133 passengers on board. The plane was safely evacuated. Everyone bussed to the terminal. We were taxiing in. All of the sudden there was just a big boom, and it sounded like to me that a wheel blew out. I dont know if a wheel blew out or it just collapsed or Something Like that. Then the next thing i know, we were in the ditch. Officials say that eight people were taken to the hospital with mostly minor injuries. New this morning, fire crews in new jersey tweeted out in the flames erupted from a car at a taco bell drive through overnight. Crews were able to stop the flames from reaching the building. One person was treated for a minor injury. In the bronx, investigators trying to figure out what sparked that enormous fire on friday. The fdny confirming a cigarette set off the flames. Nine people were injured. 90 others were displaced. The fire damaged much of the block. City now says it has to demolish several of those buildings and homes. Five people are now facing grand larceny charges after allegedly scamming an elderly woman out of more than 300,000. Police in westchester arrested the group last week, which included two people from new york, two from new jersey, and a fifth person from texas. Police say one of them impersonated an officer and scammed the 92yearold victim into depositing her money into a number of bank accounts. Police in new jersey are sharpen the details of a grainy video of a driveby shooting. The video shows a passenger in a white sedan opening fire. You see the flashes there. One of the men was shot. Hes expected to recover. Police believe there were a total of four people in the car. Among them, a child. Signal problems also causing delays of up to 30 minutes on several other lines. This morning, were hearing from a miracle motorist in northern california. Don lee was driving when a truck lost part of its load. The long metal beam bounced off the pavement and flew straight for the windshield of his bmw. Lee says thats when he felt a surprising sense of calm. I saw clearly everything coming through the window. That moment, maybe one millisecond, i saw the entire picture. Lee only has a few scratches on his arm from the beam that nailed his car. Don used to build and drive race cars and credits that experience with keeping him calm behind the wheel.
