It quickly spread to several homes. It happened in the tremont section of the bronx. The scene itself is on valentine avenue. Its very active. Today in new yorks Lori Bordonaro is there. Those are just amazing pictures shaloing t w big this fire was at one point. Reporter good morning, michael. Were just waiting for an update from the fire chief. Hes expected to speak in just a i can tell you now that the flames are out. You can see firefighters still spraying water here on t is row of homes along valentine avenue. I want to actually show you what it looked like here just a little bit earlier. You can see flames were pouring ouset of these homes here. At least six of them damaged by fire. We re told sd eral of thh homes here are vacant, but at least n peop e lived in one of the homes. When we arrived here at about 3 30 this morning, there were a lot of residents wrapped in red cross blankets. Many of them have gone to find shelter now. One man told us he got a knock on 3 his door just before midnight, warstng him of the fire. It does appear everyone got out safely. We talked to a few people earlier. One who doesnt even live here, but she came to c ck on her niece. Heres what they told us. Just fire coming from the roof. Then the Fire Department trying to stop the house next to it reporter and still, as you can see, a very active scene here. Several injuries. Again, this was a sixalarm fire here. Still a lot of firefighters working on it. The fire chief e ected to come over here momentarily and g. I. Us an update as to what may have started this fire. Thheats the latest from here. A medical helicopter has crashed in asremote field, killing all four people on board. Authorities say the victims include a nurse, a paramedic, and a patient. The helicopter was making a tenminute flight to a hospital in bakersfield when it went down. There was heavy rain and fog in the area at the time. But investigators havent yet determined if weather caused the crash. New this morning, police are asking for your help to find a man who tried to rape a woman in east harlem. Were going to show you some Surveillance Video of the suspect. Apartment building at east 133rd st treet last night wednesday, rather. He allegedly attacked a 60yearold woman, covering her mouth, pulling her dowi to the ground. Police say he tried to take off the womans pants and strangle hewr the woman is in stable condition. Shes being treated for cuts and bruises. Police say theyve arrested a man for an on provoked attack in williamsburg. The suspect is 39yearold angel velasquez. Hes accused of punching a 42yearold man in the back of the head. He allegedly yelle antiwhite statements during the attack. Its 5 04 right now. Time to check weather and traffic on the 4s. Right now people on the Upper East Side are still looking up after a new warning about falling bricks. Now evacuated. Today in new yorks Katherine Creag is on the Upper East Side. Kat . Reporter and darlene, we ve nt to show you the i ding, the original building where the bricks came falling from. Theres some netting around it on the 1st avenue side. The worry is that more bricks will come raining down. Now its affecting a neighboring building. In fact, tenants of an Apartment Building on east 63rd street had only a few hours to gather up some of their belongings. The hope is that they will be able to return sunday night, but the problem is the city is worried bricks will continue falling, damaging the nearby 16unit building and someone might get hurt. The Buildings Department has issued a vacate order in the original building from where bricks fell. Inspectors discovered cracks in the remaining facade. Now repair work is under way. Theyre going to mitigate the part that might collapse. Then theyll do a hand demo of thats a very timeconsuming, laborintensive issue we have to deal with. Reporter and Emergency Management explained its a balance between keeping people safe by trying to bring back to normal this neighborhood. Happening now, police are trying to determine if four young men arrested for robbery in central park are connected to other holdups that have happened in that area. Four suspects ranging in ave from 14 to 20 years old are accused of punching a 19yearold man near east 73rd street and east drive last night and stealing his phone. Police say the four people in custody could be responsible for atco least two other robberies. There have been a total of three robberies in or near central today, a jury resumes deliberations at the federal corruption trial of dean skelos and his son adam. They met for ne rly five hours yesterday. One the table, eight counts that include conspiracy, bribery, and extortion. Prosecutors accuse skelos of using vs new York State Senate leadership post to get his son noshow jobs. Happening today, Suffolk Countys former police chief james burke will learn whether hes going to be released on bail. He was arrested at his home wednesday on federal charges. Prosecutors alleging he assaulted a suspect who was in handcuffs then conspired to ver it pup up. And in nassau county, a verdict is expected today in the Police Brutality case. The officer faces Assault Charges in an incident caught on tape last year. Prosecutors alleging that he and his partner used excessive the driver, kyle howell, suffering facial fractures. The officer testified he thought howell could have been reaching for a weapon. Today divers will be back in lake looking for possible evidence from the San Bernardino an ssthre. The fbi wont say what theyre d lotking for, but its believed the shooters were there around the time of the killings. Yesterday the first of the 14 People Killed was laid to rest. West shore expressway is closed due to a vehicle fire. This is right at exit 7, victory boulevard. You will be diverted off on the service road. Traffic is being pushed off here on the service road. A fire ripped through several buildings overnight. It happened in the tremont section. Apartments around the scene on valentine avenue. Today in new yorks Lori Bordonaro is there. Reporter and darlene, the fire chief just spoke a few moments ago. He says 85 people have been displaced, 15 of them children. All from this fire. It is now under control. But you can see firefighters here still working to try to keep some of that smoke and flames under control. It was raging out of control a little earlier this morning. Take a look here at our video. This fire broke out at about 11 30 last night on valentine avenue. It went to six alarms. About 200 firefighters responded. This fire impacted about nine homes here, three of them vacant. So many residents who lived here forced out on to the street in the middle of the night. Most of them now getting help from the red cross. The fire chief tells us the building here was made of very combustible material, causing this fire to spread quickly. Heres what he says. That were row frames, three stories, all wood. The fire took advantage of the combustible construction. Pretty much devastated. Right now department of buildings is looking at it possibly for demolition. Reporter he says about six firefighters and three residents were treated for minor injuries. Again, the fire marshal here trying to figure out exactly what caused this fire. This attack happening friday, november 27th. Investigators say the victim you see here in this sketch the man, rather, in this sketch followed his victim for about a block after she got off the bus. At least one parent we talked to says its a sand reminder why he will not let his daughter walk alone, not even from school. Happening right now, four young men are in custody following another robbery in central park. Police made the arrest after a man was punched mt. Ed ed in the face and had his phone stolen. Reporter right, michael. The huge problem is inspectors found cracks in the facade area of this building where those bricks came from the other day. The problem is those cracks and also to repair this building, that needs to get under way. Theres a nearby building that was vacated. We want to show you video of those residents. They only had a few hours to gather up some of their belongings. The hope is they will be able to return sunday night. Worried bricks will continue falling, damaging the near 16unit building and someone might get hurt. On long island, were learning the fbi will play a larger role in the investigation on ten sets of Human Remains Found along gilgo beach. The decision coming amid new leadership at the Suffolk County police department. Authorities believe those remains are linked to a serial killer. No arrests so far. The first set of remains found exactly five years ago today. Law enforcement techniques, particularly with homicide changing, and we want to ensure that we are doing everything we can to solve these murders. Remains were discovered while police were searching for shannon gilbert, a new jersey escort who disappeared back in 2010. In connecticut, governor malloy says he will act on his own to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. Malloy says hell soon sign an executive order. It would call on state police to work with Homeland Security officials. Together they would make sure that no one on the federal nofly list can buy weapons. Malloy would even take that one step further. If theres someone on the list and has a weapon, i would arkt that the weapon should be removed. Subject to appeal. In a rare instance, the judge carried out the sentence then apologized to clark fredricks. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the stabbing death of dennis pegg. Fredricks claims pegg repeatedly raped him four decades ago. He had a message for other victims. A secret like molestation, if kept inside of you, will continue to grow and take on a life of its own. Happening now, police are looking for a knifewielding woman wanted for several now, this is some Surveillance Video of the suspect. Investigators say in at least three instances, the suspect has threatened women with a knife, demanding money or their purse. The victims have been as young as 33 and as old as 72 years old. The sixalarm fire weve been reporting this morning tore through a block of homes last night with flames jumping from it happened along valentine avenue. Today in new yorks lori rdonaro talked with the fire chief this morning. What did the chief say, lori . Reporter good morning, darlene. The chief says that about 200 firefighters responded to this fire. You can see many of them still out here working this morning. The fire is now under control. It affected this entire row of homes here, about nine homes along valentine avenue. It was raging, as you said, out of control a little earlier this morning. Take a look here at our video from a little bit earlier. You can see what was happening. This fire broke out at about 11 30 last night at 2086 valentine avenue. Some residents say they got a knock on their door telling them to get out, that this building was on fire. Three homes here were vacant, but about 85 people have been displaced. Many of them wrapped in red cross blankets when we arrived here about 3 30 this morning. The fire chief tells us the building was made from very combustible wood and thats why it spread so quickly. The problem is the city isk worried that bricks will continue falling from that original building on 64th street, damaging the nearby building on east 63rd street and someone might get hurt. The Buildings Department has issued a vacate order for that building on east 63rd street in the original building from where a thousand bricks fell.
