Who is moving to New Hampshire welcome to New Hampshires business, im fred kocher. Who is moving to New Hampshire and why . My next guess has some surprising trends on it. And here is a chief architect, if you will, of polycon in dover. Who is moving here and why is were going to look at the bag and theres good news. New hampshire has been a supplier of 18 to 21yearolds to other states for decades. Theres been concern in New Hampshire about the state losing young people to other states and my research, if you look at data carefully, suggests that this has been a trend for a number of years, for decades, as a matter of fact. All of Northern New England loses young people to other states. Most rural states in the country lose their young people and instead, we get back some other favorable demographics. Here is what we got back. What New Hampshire got in return was a lot of 30 to 44yearolds with high levels of education attainment, it set New Hampshire apart and here is the rest of the graphic, set New Hampshire apart from the rest of new england and northeast and provmded the fuel for the extraordinary rise ins prosperity from the 80s to 2000s. Apart and why we were the leader in the east and new england, we were obviously to attract the 38 to 44 years old. Likely College Educated and married couple family and fueled the tremendous capacity and skill level of our work force place. 2000s. The first graph, here it is, there is almost 1 2 of the Adult Population in New Hampshire is in the 25 to 34 age group, and look at that, 44 in the yellow bar on this graph. Thats significant. Yeah, it is. I mean, i think it should allay some fears that the only people that were attracting in this state and ive heard were only attracting rye retirees and older people, were going back to our straight. More in the 30yearold range, were showing we can again attract those individuals. Lets go back to the graph, mr. Director, to are a minute if you will. I want to show the yellow, 25 to 34 age group. Look at the same graph and look 54yearolds. Yeah, thats an important demographic for the economy. Those are people who are in their peak earning years, in their peak earning years, and most accumulated knowledge and education and provide a tremendous boost in terms of productive capacity of an economy. Now, the final graph and this is good. Age 25 plus moving to New Hampshire have a postsecondary degree and 50 have a bachelors degree or higher. Look at the first two bars on degree, bachelors degree and biggest piece is High School Grad or below, but its two pieces up top that suggest a change. Yeah, 47 approximately of the in migrants to the state of New Hampshire have at least a bachelors degree. Thats really significant because really, when you look at our current population, about 38 or so of the people in those age groups right now who live in the state have bachelors degree or higher. So were adding to the skill level of the work force in vibration. Two positive trends. Were starting to see a pickup again in migration to the state and two, the quality and still level of that immigration is very high. Good news, brian. New work on this research. Brian gottlieb of polecon. Thank you. If you want to look at this news and click on economy. Now, josh judge with your storm watch 9 forecast. Josh well, its a sunday morning and were starting off dry. Unlike yesterday morning, well see clouds stick around to a good portion of the state. To clairemont, theyve got the holiday lights shining bright and the temperatures, 45 degrees, well above what youd expect in time of the morning and its a good bit higher than the average High Temperature for the day. And those temperatures are variable throughout the state, but the constant trend and theme here is above average. And thats the case again today. Not as much as yesterday was. Lets take a look at visibility. Remember yesterday morning and the last few mornings, theres been a lot of fog. Not really the face this morning, visibility is good, pretty much everywhere out there, so you dont have to worry about that anyway. Lots of clouds and central and southern New Hampshire, youre socked in and northern new right now, and breaks of sunshine and peeks of sunshine will be around today. Thats the best chance to see peeks of sun. Anywhere else, cant rule out a little peek at the sun, dont expect it to be the exception rather than the rule. And the clouds keep rushing in through the day today and eventually this rain from this weather system arrives, but it brings a warm front with it, meaning that it arrives as rainfall. Takes till tomorrow night to get here with the heavier downpours as it pulls through. Well take a look at that with futurecast right now. Well show you what to expect through the day today. Mostly cloudy skies, as it mentions, the cloud may peel away and everywhere else a mainly cloudy day. Above average temperatures because of the air mass thats here. Could see a couple of showers and maybe freezing rain overnight tonight and then tomorrow, we all develop perhaps some drizzle or sprinkles at times here and there and then late in the day or into tomorrow and heavier. As you can see, the heavier downpours pulling through and theyre there on Tuesday Morning and partly cloudy skies and breezy and actually fairly mild and a couple of showers may ring out of the atmosphere in the mountains which could end as snow flurries. The conditions to expect for today. Again. Its not like yesterday. Clouds and cooler and either side of 50 degrees, in a lot of spots and thats well above what youd expect this time of year. 30s tonight. 32 in the north country, meaning any showers that come down there tonight could be back and forth between freezing rain or rain and tomorrow, more of the same in terms of temperatures, clouds, sprinkles or clouds or drizzle and the heavier rain arriving monday night into early tuesday. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm 9 forecast. Josh we start off with clouds. Manchester looking like this. Cloudy skies, but check out the temperature, 47 degrees. Thats 10 Degrees Higher than average highs for the day. So, that tells you something. Were certainly starting off warm and were going to get a little bit milder in the 40s. A look in the lakes region. Less clouds in central New Hampshire and in northern New Hampshire. So youll see some sunshine in these spots and even here, as you can see, its in the 40s. So, were mild everywhere, northern New Hampshire is a little cooler. Upper 20s to low 30s because youve been clear all night and that allowed the radiational cooling that really chills things off at night and hasnt been the case so much in the other parts of the state. Visibility very good out there right now. No fog this morning, like weve had every other morning. On to the clouds and as you mentioned, socked in across southern New Hampshire. As you head farther north. Central New Hampshire on the edge there. We saw the camera shot showing breaks in the clouds, remember. And northern New Hampshire, thats sort of how were going to be, northern New Hampshire, central parts of the state youre on the edge. Times where its cloudy and times when you see the sun. Any sun will be a bonus. Mostly cloudy as the front to our south. Kind of gathers and directs the clouds around it. The more clouds you see, the farther north, youre away from that front. This system in the middle of the nation is headed in our direction. It wont pack as much of a punch as you see here, youll see it early Tuesday Morning. What to expect, today, plenty of clouds and breaks of sunshine at times as ive mentioned. Theyre settling the most in the southern half of the state with more sunshine possible to the north and tonight, clouds and mixed showers meaning rain or freezing rain in the overnight hours, perhaps into early tomorrow morning and then tomorrow, clouds and light through the day and then its steadier later into the day and tomorrow night. Thats when the system moves through. As you can see, it can bring times of heavy rain before it clears out of here on Tuesday Morning, it turns breezy on tuesday. So, highs today will be near 50. Some spots with more sunshine, may go a little above that, into the lower 50s out there for today. Tonight, not that cold, 30s, notice northern New Hampshire, 32 means you could see freezing rain and more temperaturewise. Tomorrow not the nicest day. Clouds and drizzle and sprinkles for most through the day tomorrow. There is your week ahead. Temperatures above average all week long. The next shot at chillier and more seasonable air arrives next weekend. Amy certainly its been nice for getting errands done. Josh makes it much easier, doesnt it. Amy absolutely. Josh a little different for different parts of the state. Southern New Hampshire a lot of clouds, as you are headed north more sunshine. No matter where you are, above average for yet another day this december. Well talk about how long that when students graduate from college, theyre often faced with years of debt. The biggest Student Loan Company coming underfire for how its charging customers. What kind of grants that company is getting in New Hampshire. Mike in the last two years, four complaints have been filed with the New Hampshire attorney generals Consumer Protection office by customers of noviant, a spinoff of sallie mae and the largest Student Loan Company. Were not peoples advocates, but we enforce the Consumer Protection act which prohibits unfair and deceptive practices and some of those are leading us to take action against businesses who are doing what theyre not supposed to do. And unchanged terms and conditions they say the insurance rates on private loans are variable. General says that no action was necessary with the four New Hampshire complaints. In some cases, the business will just resolve the complaint directly, with the consumer. And then we dont get involved any further. Nationally, theyre facing government investigations from other attorney generals in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau how its charging customers. Numbers show student debt is nationally. According to a study by the institute for College Access and success, in 2014, New Hampshire ranks second in the country for highest average debt per graduate, with more than 33,000 dollars per student. It says 76 of the states graduates had debt. What i usually say to students is if the outcome is in education, theres an opportunity for everybody. Were already at we were at the higher than whats average for the highs overnight. Its dropped a little bit to 37 right now, exactly in concord, but this is the beginning of the day and were going to be warming up from here. Other areas have gone well above that. Northern New Hampshire, cooler because youve got clearer skies up there. Lets take a look at your satellite here. And you can see the cloudiest skies in the southern part of the state. That will be the case throughout a good portion of the day. The farther south you go, the more clouds. The farther north you head, the central New Hampshire, youre right on the border here. So at times youll have clouds, sometimes sun and partly sunny skies in northern New Hampshire. The farther north you go, the more sun youll see today. The clouds being ushered in, the front to our south and sort of stalled there and lures in the clouds. They continue coming in our direction and this weather system right here that you see in the central part of the country does move through here tomorrow night. Thats monday night into Tuesday Morning. So we could have some heavy, little times of rain, i guess, a quick shot of heavier rain, monday night into Tuesday Morning and then it pulls away and its done for a while. So the clouds overhead right now, certainly thickest in southern New Hampshire and there may be some peeks of sun here and there, but the clouds keep reaffirming themselves. The farther north you go, the more sunshine through much of the day until you get into tonight. Tonight, you cloud over again. Country. Northern New Hampshire. A dangerous disease causing major concern in california. Su good morning, welcome back on a sunday morning, its 8 10 and weve got cloudy skies over the queen city this morning. Much of southern New Hampshire under cloudy skies and as you head farther north, theres breaks in those clouds. Well talk about that as we wrap the weekend forecast and look to the week ahead in just a couple of minutes. Amy a historic milestone on nearly 200 countries banding together pledging to slow Global Warming. Here is a shot from space. Mark kelly sent a congratulatory message. New this morning, were learning that divers have recovered items in their search of a lake near San Bernardino terror attack. Fbi dive teams began combing through the water four days ago after a tip surfaced that evidence, including a hard drive from the shooters, may be in the water. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm watch forecast. Josh depends where you are, milder than average temperatures this morning. Here is mount monadnock, weve got 45 degrees. At 8 15 in the morning on december 13th. Wow. And here is warner, cloudy skies there and 39 degrees, winds and theres a look at your temperatures around the region. Notice northern New Hampshire you usually expect to see the temperatures cooler there, but extra cold compared to the other temperatures, because youve had so many breaks in the clouds and at times clear skies during the overnight hours and this morning as well allowing for radiational cooling. Meanwhile, the clouds farther south kind of helped keep in a little of the warmth. 47 in manchester and 40s throughout the Granite State. There are the clouds. Central New Hampshire, there are clouds and breaks you can see, especially if you look northward up toward the mountains and beyond where theres partly sunny skies this morning. We have a front, its a stationary front sitting right to our south here and it tonys to use feed in these clouds north of that month. That will happen through the day today. So, clouds will certainly be around a lot of the day, but we all can see peeks of sun. Farther south less sun, but peeks here and there. Next up, its rain. Is in the middle section of the nation. Look how large it is, spanning almost from the top to the bottom of the usa. And not wyoming, kansas. Moving in this direction right now. And it brings some warmth with it, so that means as it arrives here, its going to be in the form of rain not snow because it moves and takes this air mass along with it with milder conditions to cancel out the clouds and rain. Here is how it all stocks up in terms of a timetable. Plenty of clouds, peeks of sun here and there, and temperatures regardless of the clouds will be above average, upper 40s to lower 50s and tonight we all cloud up. Mixed showers with freezing rain mixing in and far northern New Hampshire and maybe that way tomorrow morning as well. Tomorrow, we develop some light drizzle, sprinkles or a passing the farther into the day you go, the better the chance. Sprinkled out there through drizzle or sprinkles. Late in the day into tomorrow night, here comes the system, i showed you in the middle part of the nation, its moving and weakening, but it packs kind of a punch here with heavy downpours moving through during the overnight hours. Theyre done though by early Tuesday Morning. Tuesday, its breezy, but sunny and mild with the clouds moving out and the only place the clouds will linger is with a couple of showers. Highs today upper 40s to lower 50s as you see there with cloudy skies to the south and gradually more and more sunshine as you head to the north. Sort of halfway in between the hampshire. Rain tomorrow, heaviest monday night into Tuesday Morning. Week. All right. Josh you did see next weekend, it cools down again to about where youd expect it to be this time of year. Cereal, make it easy. Food in the boxes de equates to six meals. If they dont want to donate food they can donate cash. They can donate the at the register and it goes to the food bank. Thousands have been given so far, what is it like to watch the people at hanneford. We have people that comes in and give 20, 30 and they know it goes right to the people in need in New Hampshire. The food drive goes until tonight. Its our last and final day. Join kevin, and you can donate at any hanneford walmart or shaws store. Kristen carosa, wmur news 9. Theres supposed to be a fun, easy way to decorate for the holiday. Theyre causing problems for pilots. For lynns family, the big stress is paying four hundred dollars a month in medical and drug costs for aidan. For other families its higher deductibles, premiums and copays that keep adding up. Say some of the new laser christmas light displays are proving dangerous to pilots. Its something that most people dont think about when theyre putting up a display or anything like that. They dont realize that they might be causing a problem. Retired pilot david kelly says he isnt surprised to hear what happened to an American Airlines crew last night. The f. A. A. Says the boeing 737 was struck by a laser while flying at 13,000 feet. A Dallas Police helicopter traced the beam back to a home about 22 miles east of the dfw airport. Intent is whats important. Obviously these people did not intend for this to happen and if they had been told by the f. A. A. To shut it off and they dont, then that might border on being violating your criminal law. Otherwise, no, its not. Kelly says folks who buy laser light displays need to make sure theyre pointed at the for those who are buying into this emerging Holiday Technology and are might go up homes without a care. Id tell them they should stop immediately because, first of all, theyre endangering peoples lives and second of all, endangering Peoples Health and third, they themselves could wind up criminal prosecution. Were told home owners would most likely to get a warning first, that their lights were violating f. A. A. Rules, but they could Face Criminal Charges if they dont comply. Notice northern New Hampshire, those clouds have been staying away. Central New Hampshire, youve got partial clouds and some partial sunshine and southern New Hampshire will be the cloudiest today. There will be a few peeks of sun and clouds and more feed into the west ahead of the front. The front is just to our south. So that front stays there, but keeps rooting in more clouds. Mostly cloudy in southern New Hampshire with a few peeks possible and sunnier as you go progressively north. Its times and clouds and sun, especially later on today. With john mccain to strengthen veterans healthcare. Bernie sanders. A consistent, principled, and effective leader. Building a future to believe in. Sanders im Bernie Sanders welcome to New Hampshires business, im fred kocher. Who is moving to New Hampshire and why . Theres new research out by my guest that has some surprising trends in it. Lets go to brian gottlieb, who architect, if you will, of Polecon Research based in dover. Good morning, fred. Lets go to the first graphic, were going to give background before we get to the good news. It is good news. New hampshire has been a supplier of 18 to 24yearolds to other states for decades. Theres been concern lately in New Hampshire about the state losing young people to other states. My research, if you look at the data carefully, suggests this has been a trend for a number of years, for decades, as a matter of fact, all of Northern New England loses young people to other states. Most rural states in the country lose their young people and instead. We get some some other favorable demographics. Here is what we got back. What New Hampshire got were a lot of 33 and 44yearolds with high levels of education attainment and here is the rest hampshire apart for the rest of the northeast, and the fuel for the extraordinary rise for the 1980s to the 2000s. This is what set New Hampshire apart, why we were a leader in the northeast and new england because we were able to atact that demographic, the 33 to 44yearold, fueled a tremendous increase in the capacity and skill level of our work force and made New Hampshire a great place. 1990s. 80s, 90s, into the early 2000s. Ok, now, the good news and lets go to the first graph, here it is. And there is almost one half of the Adult Population is in the 25 to 34 age group, look at that, 44 in the yellow bar on this graph. Thats significant. Yeah, it is, i think it should allow some fears the only people were atact ive heard some say the only ones we eye tract is the retirees. And the 25 to 30yearold range, were showing we can again track the individuals. Lets go back to the first graph, mr. Director, if you will. I want to show on the bars, the yellow is 44 , thats the 25 to 34 age group. But, but look at the same graph and look at the 24. 8 of 35 to 54 years old. Yeah, thats an important demographic for the economy. Those are people who are in their peak earning years and working years and they send to have the most couple lated knowledge and education and they provide a tremendous boost in terms of the productive capacity of an academy. Now, the final graph and this is good. Hampshire have a postsecondary degree and 50 have a bachelors or higher. The first two bars on the graph show you the graduate professional degree and bachelors degree and the biggest part of the graph is the High School Grad or below, but its the two pieces up top that suggest a change . Yeah, 47 of migrants in the state of New Hampshire have at least a bachelors degree. Thats significant because really, when you look at our current population, about 38 or so of the people in those age groups right now, who live in the state, have bachelors degrees or higher. So were adding to the school level of our work force with the migration, one, were starting to see a pickup again of migration into the state and two, the quality and skill level of that migration is very high. This is good news, brian. Nice work on the research. Owner of Polecon Research in New Hampshire. Thank you, fred. If you want to look at the graphs more carefully. Go to wmur. Com and click on news and then click on project economy. Now, meteorologist josh judge with your storm watch 9 forecast. Its project warm weather. Its certainly warmer than we year. Already starting off with temperatures in the 40s most everywhere around the state. Cloudy skies across a good portion of the Granite State this morning. Cloudiest, central New Hampshire, clouds, but thinner so you may notice partial sun and more sunshine in northern New Hampshire this morning. And that resulted, boy, all of that sunshine yesterday resulted in warm temperatures, just to recap in case you did not see how high they got. We will not being seeing them quite this high today. At or near 50 degree temperatures as we go through the day today and this afternoon and point that out. The average normal high for 37 degrees, the average low 18. Were starting off in the 30 and 40s and perhaps 50s in a couple of spots. Lets take a look at current temperatures. Remember, the average low is 18 degrees for this day in concord. Thats amazing stuff. Weird weather yesterday and today not as much so. There are a lot more clouds which will temper the sunshine and warmer conditions. The clouds are thickest in southern New Hampshire and theyre a little thinner and at times you may see more sunshine here, especially this afternoon in central New Hampshire and northern New Hampshire. Youve got some sun for today as well. Partly sunny skies, sunny is north and cloudiest south today thanks to a front thats to our south. The more you get the clouds and more front youll find. The area of low pressure is in the middle of the nation. It slowly winds towards us. In front of it, its warmer. On the back side you can see the we dont see that because the warmer air here gets pushed in along with the rain, the rain arrives tomorrow into tomorrow night and pulls away Tuesday Morning. Lets show you the time line on that. Clouds, of course, will be varying degrees of thickness, you may see partial sun at times or peeks of the sun in southern New Hampshire, better bets of that through the day today. Either side of 50 degrees. Tonight, speaking of northern New Hampshire, as another warm front approaches, it knicks the state, rain, freezing rain or icing in a couple of spots.
