With your help, as president , tom time to check traffic, this is 293 north in manchester from the elliott at rivers edge camera. Rather nicely, but standardly this tuesday night. Jennifer peggy james has a look at the commute. Hi, yes, looking good on 293. We did have a serious crash in walpole on route 12 in the area of black jack crossing. This did require a medivac to get that cleared out. Traffic should be returning to normal, but it was definitely a serious one earlier. Otherwise its looking pretty good coming up 93 from massachusetts, a good ride all the way into manchester, 293 moving well and things are looking good through hooksett and on up into bow and concord. 101 west, slight slowdowns, and the everett turnpike is starting to get busy through merrimack and bedford. 101 is a good ride to and from the seacoast so far this evening. From the wzid traffic network, im peggy james. Jennifer riders on the mbta Commuter Rail ran into more tom two coaches derailed on the back of the haverhill line, no passengers were aboard at the time, but the derailment forced the passengers onto a bus line between lawrence and an andover and contributed to long delays. Was supposed to be in 8 30, wont be there until probably 10 00. It was like just feel a, great, here we go again. Tom investigators are looking into a track failure as the possible cause of that derailment. Last year Winter Weather contributed to days of delays for passengers. Here in New Hampshire at this time of year, many people are preparing their bob houses or already have them set up. This year were still waiting for the ice to form, though, and what does this weeks cold mean for those conditions . Lets go to meteorologist josh judge. Josh we spoke with New Hampshire fish and game and say they say nowhere in New Hampshire is safe. About an hour ago i took some snapshots of the lakes in our weirs beach, as can you see, no ice whatsoever. Take a look at the other side over at alton bay, no ice either. Lake winnisquam, any ice . No. Also Newfound Lake is completely free of ice. We went up to northern New Hampshire, heres the first connecticut lake, can you see that its covered over some, but certainly some spots where its very thin. And one more back lake in pittsburgh, this one also is iced over with some snow. So you dont know how thick it is, of course the snow can really be something that masks that. So theres a lot of variables in trying to determine how fast ice will melt or not, or freeze. Certainly inlets and currents are something that has a lot to do with it. The water is in motion, it wont be freezing very quickly. The amount of sunshine or clouds which could melt or help freeze it, the amount of wind and speed of the wind when it blows from freezing. And objects in the water, in the ice obviously can break up that ice as well. So according to all the experts, if youre going to have just a couple of people out there, you need at least four to six inches of ice. More than that, for a small group of you need six to even inches, and 8 to 10 inches of ice if youre going to have a snowmobile. And nayed avision you to take an auger and cut a hole and measure how much ice there is as you go along. So certainly nothing quite ready just yet. Will that continue or will the temperatures be warming up . Mike haddad has more on that. Mike yes, josh, and when you look at the temperatures and you look at the wind and Everything Else thats been going on, wind really not helping matters because its been quite active a good part of the day. And the winds go a little later tonight, so we may start to see a little ice forming out there during the next 24 hours. But by this time tomorrow, were spots. Youre looking at time lambs in where it was a dry, bright chilly one. But temperatures did recover back into the mid to upper 20s in parts of Southern New Hampshire. Only teens to the north. Right now back into the single numbers in berlin and whitefield. Five atop mount washington. While thats very cold, its not all that frigid for over 6,000 feet up, indicating that the air mass is already starting to warm a little bit. So these are the coldest temperatures youll see for this hour of the day, through this upcoming weekend. The temperatures are heading higher again. But for tonight, some of the sheltered valleys up north, single digit, below zero or a valley. Five or six above in the lakes region, about three in concord. Nine or so in nashua and about 10, 11 or 12 along the coast, region. Speaking of cold the arctic chill is ready the retreat so its more seasonable back to the west. That means temperatures will run well above where they were today, tomorrow, right through over the weekend. So here go the temperatures again, cold air retreats, more seasonable and pleasant stuff for tomorrow, thursday, friday and even into the weekend. Speaking of which by later saturday night and sunday, big chunk of arctic air will approach and cover a good portion of the midwest and the western great lakes. Monday and tuesday it arrives preceded by a weak system with a couple of snow or mixed showers on saturday. And maybe some rain in many spots on sunday. But the here and now showing clear skies and with lighter winds tonight temperatures will bottom out as low as they have been at any point this season and very close to where they were this morning in some spots. Tonight again, clear skies, very cold, on average. Single digits below zero north, about 11, 12, 13 at the coast. Single numbers above elsewhere. Temperatures back above freezing, not only wednesday with lots of sun, into thursday with bright skies as well, breeze, may be a few clouds mixing in on friday. A couple of snow showers early saturday, but really not a big storm by any stretch. The more impressive one may bring more warm air, so maybe rain on sunday. Mike that classic winter chill out there early today and it didnt get a lot warmer this afternoon, but for those that dont like the chill, temperatures heading higher starting tomorrow. Take a look right now, for those milder temperatures moving on in, it will be tough to get ice on the lakes. We talke aut that earlier at 5 00. But with the busy wind last night and a good part of today, even with cold temperatures, tough to get a lot of ice out there. Tonight, but by tomorrow afternoon warmer air moves in. So very cold tonight, then the temperatures start heading higher tomorrow afternoon. That will linger right through the end of the week into the upcoming weekend. Plenty of sun the next few days, then change ohs kur this weekend, with a very weak system producing a couple of snow or mixed showers on saturday, and then believe it or not more rain sunday. Very cold out there, and as you might expect with clear skies continue to fall off tonight. But were not talking about another cold one like this for the next several nights because take a look back to our west, even though it is cold, it is a little warmer than what were experiencing right now and all of this moves in for the next several day putting our temperatures at or above the average starting tomorrow afternoon. And with the temperatures on the way up, a lot of sun to be had as well not only tomorrow, but right on into thursday. Youll notice on future cast after a bright day tomorrow, and more sun on thursday, the next system that were tracking well off to our west will begin to approach later on friday morning, into the afternoon. So as we go through the afternoon stretch, a few clouds willui from the water and then by saturday this weak system, mostly rain to the west, will work in to cold enough air for a couple of snow or mixed showers onat once that hap, again, looks like the next system would produce more rain than snow. Soor tonight, clear skies, very cold out there, but seasonably so, on average single north woods, Single Digits abovey and 10 to 13 in downtown manchester and right along the coast. Very nice stretch of weather for wednesday through friday. A few more clouds than sun on friday, but overall not too bad, with temperatures a little above average. Saturday a couple of snow showers in the morning, maybe a snow or mixed shower in the afternoon. Accumulations should be under an inch or two and then more wet than white onday.
