members of the jury said the testimony of ladevelopa merritt was what led to the guilty verdict. >> we weren't just going to stand back and do the thing mediocre but we knew it was for someone's life. the victim's family as well as the defendant's family. >> reporter: john wagner faces life in prison and 40 more years for convictions on robbery and conspiracy. his attorney will file an appeal and we are told there hasn't been a sentencing date set but it's expected maybe sometime in late october. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 5:31. looking at news around the nation, florida police say they foiled a deadly attack. authorities say the plan was to attack a tampa high school and they arrested an expelled student. they got it from a tip. 17-year-old jared cano had the tools to kill and a plan to cause more casualties than columbine. this tip stopped the plot when they searched his room and found bomb making materials and a minute by minute plan of attack. he was expelled from the school last year at the same time he was arrested for possessing a stolen firearm. in california, video of a hit-and-run at a gas station where a employee was carried on the front of a car for half a mile. police say the cashier got into an argument with the driver of the car and he follows the man out and stands in front of it. he tried to get the man to stop before the car takes off. driver does not listen and hits the gas and the cashier ends up on the front of the car and hanging on for half a mile before being thrown to the sidewalk and he is listed in critical condition. police are searching for the driver of that car. this suspect got washed-up after a chase with police in ohio. as you can see, police caught the man after he drove through a fence and then right into a pool happening in union township ohio. the pursuit started when officers tried to pull him over. the suspect took off. police say that he hit one of the vehicles before crashing into the swimming pool. no one was home at the time of the accident. a sanitation truck crashed at the side of a industrial building in queens, new york on wednesday. the driver was taken to the hospital and workers had the job of stabilizing the salt spreader as it dangle from the second floor. four cars parked below wereseverely damaged and the crash happened when the driver lost control of the truck. we have heard the occasional big fish story, but this one takes the cake. >> what a massachusetts teen caught that has people raising their eyebrows. you will want to hear the weight of that fish. and it's a simple thing that keeps us going but but for a arizona man, pill sell -- simple advice has kept him going for a long time. his secret to a long life. that's coming up next when "good morning maryland" continues. we are bringing you what new, now and next on this thursday morning. we will be right back.
