all about the rain. what a soggy day. the showers this morning and they began predawn and they have been met with intermittent midst and fog and this afternoon it gets steady and heavy at times. i expect heaviest of the rain late afternoon through the evening and tonight and because of the leaves that have fallen off the trees that could clog up the storm drains big pudwells close to an inch of rain before it is done. that will be followed by a weak ending chill and then we will look for something interesting perhaps in that mix as well. maryland's most powerful doppler radar and where we are watching the deep green shading, we are looking at moderate rainfall from loch raven reservoir up through fallston and bel air. and heavy stuff on the east side basically by sparrows point and middle river and another batch toward the west. sykesville in the action and towards the area. a light rain intimaten breaking up at times this morning. but we expect that to fill back in. the radar fields are earn -- energized and the conveyor belt of moisture extending to the deep south and if you see that at the bottom of the screen. they are rainfall rates of a quarter inch per hour, a sign of heavy rainfall that can build up puddles. and just be more of a nuisance on top of a wet day. 51 is the current temperature in baltimore. 48 york and hagerstown 54 spot in easton milder temperatures south and east of the area. and up in the hills it's holding back in the upper 40s. a fairly typical spread we would find during the late fall and winter season with the storm. but the storm is going to be a warm storm track for us. and warm air spills out ahead of the storm. cold air wraps on the backside. the real cold air behind this cold front will catch up after the storm passes, the storm itself will follow a track across the mountains. we will stay on the relatively warmer side. what that means although temperatures don't move much today they won't move much tonight and stuck in the low to mid-50s. heavy rain pushing its way through the panhandle with thunder boomers. and some minor flooding on through central and southeastern georgia. heavy rain extending up into the ohio valley and about to cross ken it canny into ohio. we will watch the rainfall continue to build up in our direction throughout the day. the heaviest rain will be falling back to our west and south. we expect to have upward to an inch with the steadier stuff during the afternoon as a 3:30 plot and you know it gets busy around 3 through the evening and we expect it to wrap up by tonight and the next system will catch up with chilly air. 56 that's today's afternoon two degree guarantee with steadier rain through the evening and tonight back to 52. we will talk about the chilly air am still a little fatigueed. and a little anxious at the same time because i am stage 4. but i am living really living but right now i am going back into treatment again. so, i don't really know how i feel about that right now. i have mixed feelings about it. but, at least i have option right now. so i am happy about that. >> i know you started the great campaign to try to sort of get rid of the myths out there about cancer. tell us about that and how you are doing and what exactly it is. >> it's called in realtime and it's doing doing realtime with facebook and youtube where i have a flip camera when the television cames are aren't there and it's taking me through my journey when i go through the doctor's apaints and therapy like occupationaller that pi and acupuncture and you try to keep a really calming environment. and if it's a message to give to women, i would let them know, you need to be pared up with a good medical team, an omotion -- emotional team and whatever your spiritual team may be. just for yourself to go through all the things you go through, and the -- the realtime campaign really takes you through that step. i have good days and bad days. i feel very empowered, though, these days. >> yeah. >> i do. i feel the best i've felt in my life. >> you have 7,000 fans on facebook. you must -- this must be some sort of need for something like this. you must be reaching a lot of women families. men who are scared and don't know what it's like and you are giving them a window to that. >> well, not only that. but i noticed i picked up a lot more men and i think that's interesting because a lot of women won't talk about it. and you go through a lot of emotional things a. lot of physical things and mental things. and you don't really know what to do or don't know how to get into the conversation. i am a talker and like to talk, but i find it heals me. it's very healing for me to talk about it. i feel very empowered. and they have patient empowerment where i go to a cancer treatment centers of america. and that means the doctor comes in and gives outdiagnosis or whatever you guys are talking about, you know. if you are going up for infusion the chemotherapy, then, next comes in the natural pathic or nutritionist and care manager. >> overwhelming. >> you know what, but it's good because i stay very in the moment. like, whatever the doctors are telling me if it's an issue with my eating habits, or nutrition, i can take it into the next thing without breaking my train of thought. and i think that's really good. >> where can people check >> thanks so much. stay with us, coming up next, missing for 15 years a. young woman with a big dream des appears out of nowhere. and we are hoping to breath new life into the old case. hopefully it can be solved after all these years. now, good morning, maryland at nine. abc2 news is make the commitment to put heat on some very cold cases here in maryland. and today we want to remind you of the story of tracy mosley, an 18-year-old girl with big dreams who disappeared 15 years ago. it was the spring of 1995. tlc was on the top of the pop charts. ♪ [ music ] >> and 18-year-old tracie mosley was in the prime of her life. >> tracie was incredibly funny. >> reporter: stephanie met them when they were trying out for a local theater group. tracie a 5-10, knockout wanted to be a movie star. >> she loved acting. she loved the adams family. she wanted to remake the adams family movie. >> reporter: tracie's dreams end in early morning hours of april 17th, 1995. tracie lived with her grandmother in reisterstown. her grandmother was the first to report her missing. according to the police report, tracie went to din wear friend. he dropped her off at a restaurant and the harryman house on main street and she met up with her ex-boyfriend and they left together. headed out to another friend's house so they could grab a six-pack of beer. >> he told the police that they had gone and sat behind i believe it was franklin high school and he said they had a couple beers and then threw the rest away. and that he was tired and wanted to go home. >> reporter: the ex-boyfriend told police tracie asked if she could smoke in his car when he told her no, she asked to be taken back to her from's house. >> he said that she asked him to drop her off back at the apartment of her other friend, and he left her there. >> reporter: that was the last anyone saw of her. tracie's purr was found later that night on pitston and high falcon where she was dropped off. the only thing missing is a pack of cigarettes. days that followed were a whirlwind and they interviewed people who saw her last and the stories were the same. that was it. and then police started a getting calls from a woman. for the next week, this woman called regularly and fed police odd storities of tracie saying she ran into her mother in new york, gotten into drugs even checked herself into amental institution. police followed up on the woman's claims but all of them seemed unfounded. >> i know she would never have left her grandmother. she would never have left and not come home and not told them where she was. she loved them very, very much. and there's no way. >> reporter: tracie ran away one other time but her grandmother felt this time was different. after a week she called the detectives and thought ising terrible happened. police agreed. detectives reinterviewed people and questioning people living on the street and taking a closer look at the man who saw tracie. but the search turned up nothing. after a while, tracie's case went cold. >> every where i go, every time i see a tall girl with long brown hair i. want to stop her on the street and keck and see if it's her. >> reporter: tracie's grandmother is now gone. her mother a lifelong heroin addict died a few years ago. her father lives in florida and they never had a good relationship. the only people left advocating for tracie are detectives who know the case well. and stephanie. >> even if her grandmother is gone now, even if her mom is gone now even if the people that she loved and was closest to some see a meal and others say it's snack. but between meal munching on the rise and more high fat calorie high diets on the menu, it's becoming harder for all of us to know where exactly do we draw the line. abc2 news kelly swoope tells us the nutrition experts are definitely concerned. >> reporter: like most of us, dominic's days are jam packed. >> i work 7 days a week and going to school full-time as well. >> reporter: between work and class, he's no stranger to snack attacks. >> i snack just about every day whether it's in place of a meal or in between meals. >> reporter: dominic is. >> the only one eating in between meals many daley snacking is on the rise as busy americans grow short on time and need to grab on the go. >> in the 70s about 71% of adults snacked every day. but now, it's about 97%. and among children, about 98%. >> reporter: nutrition touted the benefits of munching in between meals. the problem from small to nabbing size entrees to popular side dishes the line between a snack and a meal is becoming increasingly blurry. >> even if it's small sandwich, they are considering that a snack and they are eating 24-7. and that's really because all the enticing high fat high calorie fare is increasingly available. >> reporter: and and you at low prices. at fast-food restaurants across the country, dollar menu deals and steals are among the post popular snack items. take the snack wraps from mcdonald's and popeye's. each contains around 400 calories and more than 15 grams of fat. >> if something has three or 400 calories, that's getting into meal territory. >> reporter: other popular fast-food fare includes pies, fries and popcorn shrimp. dominic snacks on the honey barbeque snack wrap 3 to 4 times a week even though he knows the nutrition stats. >> i can eat it on the go. the fat and calorie content doesn't concern me. >> reporter: high calorie mini foods are found at the grocery store. >> these things are billed as snack foods but a really don't come from the basic healthy food group. >> reporter: we contact the snack food association several time and they didn't respond. of the six fast-food restaurants four provided statements. mcdonald's, burger king and kentucky fried chicken say the menus include a variety of different portion and calorie choices. and they provide nutrition information so customers can make informed decisions. popeyes says they believe the menu should be enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle. >> check out calorie information on the menu board. check out the websites. >> reporter: there is mo true definition for snack. but she considers it to be something that contains one to 200 calories and comes from the basic food groups. >> whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and low fat choices of dairy foods and lean meat. >> reporter: option at the grocery store and at many fast-food restaurant. if you like to piece together snack size foods for a meal you need to pay attention to portion size. pick two or three items that add up to no more than 5 or 600 calories. kelly swoope, abc2 news. >> all right, sings we are talking food, if you are worried about overeating over the holidays. make this your mantra. moderation, not deprivation i got that from robin martinez who is a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator for delmarva foundation for medical care. good to see you. >> good to be here, megan. >> all right i love this. because i think this is something that everybody struggles with and i know you your focus is diabetes but everybody goes through this for the holidays. you want to eat but it's bad for you. >> right. >> reporter: >> especially if you have diabetes. what do you do? >> well, the thing is there's no such thing as a diabetic diet anymore. what we want everyone to do is eat in healthy way. so, this is what you eat on a thanks giving dinner. and the reason i say moderation not deprivation is that you don't have to throw all of this food away and eat completely different food. you just want to control your portion sizes. so, had is a pretty typical plate size. and instead of using this size, you want to go smaller. you want to have about a 9 inch plate. so and you set the plate up so that a quarter of the plate is your protein. so for thanksgiving dinner that, might be your turkey or ham or whatever. meat or whatever you are a vegetation tofu for the dinner, a quarter of the plate is going to be what we call a starchy vegetable. so that would be something like pasta, it would be rice and gravy at thanksgiving dinner. mashed potatoes sweet potatoes those items. and, that would be be a quarter of the plate. also, instead of having one starchy food item on the plate, you could have macaroni and cheese on a little corner here and then have a little bit of stuffing. so. >> you can take less to have more. >> exactly. exactly. and half of the plate is going to be your nonstarchy vegetable. so that would be something like green beans, broccoli, and sauerkraut and cabage cauliflower any nonstarchy vegetable. >> that's the one thing if we are going a stock up on one thing make it be the vegetable neectsly. that's very true. they've lot of fiber in it. and for people with type 2 diabetes, the fiber will help them stay full longer and also will take longer to digest and breakdown. so their blood sugar remains level. >> one thing i like that you said when we were chatting is you said a lot of people who have type 2 diabetes they have been eating one way their whole life. so, it's more realistic to do something like that than to say don't eat any of it. >> change is very difficult for all of us. and when it comes to something like eating, an activity all of us enjoy, it's very difficult for all of to us change our behavior. so, in addition to setting the plate up like this, you can have eight ounce of milk or if you don't like milk or dare product lighto hello, gut cottage cheese if you don't like those things have a small dinner roll and small piece of fruit so that's going to be cranberry sauce for thanksgiving. and you can also have free what we call free foods. big garden salad when white salad -- light salad dressing or more vegetables and that's a filling meal. >> tell everybody where to reach you. >> reach us at emmc.org or call the main number at delmarva foundation 443-285-0190. and you can ask for me or the program manager. angela diction. >> thanks for all this information. and this looks like a good plate. i think that's the realistic. >> thank you. >> i forgot to ask about the pie. all right. it might be a reiny day and might not be baseball season. why in the world are jamie and charlie out at oriole park having fun. what are you doing? >> reporter: julie was shocked to see horton's face flash across the tv last month. weeks before, he unlocked her door and after claiming he couldn't give an estimate, slammed her with an outrageous bill. $525. she ate the cost and swallowed her anger knowing nothing about horton's past until she saw him in an abc2 promotion. >> i didn't know who to contact until i saw your news station. i hope no one else calls him or at least he is stopped because what he is doing is not right. >> reporter: we wanted to see what he was doing and find out for ourselves whether he was still involved in shady business despite the court order. so on a weekday afternoon we asked our producer to lock his keys in the car and make a call. >> hi. i locked myself out of my car and i was wondering if you could come out and open it up for me. >> reporter: this time, horton did offer an estimate. >> 150? okay. >> reporter: with the bottom line in mind, we waited and waited and waited. nearly 3 hours later, horton pulled up take the producers license and credit card immediately. and before ever stepping out of his van, he was ready to charge nearly six times more than quoted $825. why would you charge him 825 after quoting him 150? >> well that's not what he was quoted. >> reporter: he was quoted that over the phone. >> no he was he was quoted 825. >> i was told 150. >> that's not what you were told. >> no it was not. >> reporter: haven't you learned your lesson in apparently not. according to attorney general gan sler we showed him the tape. why doesn't this guy go to jail?
