there is the jamie costello sandwich, the jim harbaugh. there's a no brain other you need a joe flacco sandwich. it has been created. we have the creator as well as brian from pickles and chips. it's a monster of a sandwich. >> they brought samples. >> perfect. then i'm sticking around. 4 >> we'll see if we can hold some for jamie since he's on the go. let's see what's going on with the weather. let's take it outside. we had an interesting morning. we had a third of an inch of rain come from earlier on. it blew out in a hurry. watch the skies trying to clear. we'll fient out clouds as you head through the day. 61 degrees, not a bad start in kingsville. we're already up to 64 in downtown baltimore. now, we're going to see temperatures trying to surge well above normal reaching our two degree guaranteed high of 69. the clouds will be coming back in and a chance of showers will increase this evening and overnight. we'll talk about the complete weekend forecast in just a couple of minutes. right now, megan, back to you. president obama didn't even know it when he woke up this morning, but he did, in fact, win the 2009 nobel peace prize this morning. the norwegian nobel committee said only very rarely has a person to the same extent as obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. this was a surprise announcement. john hendron tells us that no one had any idea until it was made. >> reporter: it was a surprise to everyone but the nobel committee itself. >> the nobel peace prize for 2009 is to be awarded to president barack obama for his extraordinary efforts for national diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. >> reporter: the panel singled out the president's work on nuclear disarmament. >> only very rarely as a person to the same extent as obama captured the world's attention. >> reporter: asked why a leader in his first term deserves the most coveted of honors, the committee wanted to support what the president is trying to do. >> it is a clear signal to the world that we want to educate the same as he has done and to promote his national diplomacy, to strengthen the international institutions, to go for a world free of nuclear arms. all these kinds of things. >> reporter: the president's name had been mentioned before the awards but everyone watching thought it was too early. everyone but the committee that is. the decision was unanimous. it seemed as much a slap at president bush's muscular foreign follow si as president obama's. >> the international diplomacy regained the position with emphasis of the role of the united nations and other institutions can play. >> reporter: even president obama had no warning he would win. committee members said they wore worried about leaks and said they didn't want to wake him. john hendron, abc news, washington. now to the latest developments from nasa's moon mission. the organization successfully crashed an empty rocket and camera and ininstrument laden space probe into the moon. nasa had expected to give live pictures but it cut out a few seconds before impact. that's live tv for you. those school age children are the targeted population fort flu sack seen. an associated press poll found 38% of parents are unlikely to give permission for their parents to be vaccinated at school. 72% of parents are worried about side effects. it is an image state health officials are hoping to dispel. there have been no side effects. we want to you join us next week because we're doing something to help you out. abc 2 is having a day of answers. on tuesday, october 13th from 6:00 in the morning until 7:00 in the evening we'll have a panel of experts ready to answer all of your questions and concerns about the h1n1 virus, the vaccine and more. so again, we hope you join us. it is all day tuesday october 13th. stay with us in the coming days for more details. you probably trust your bank. after all, you are willing to give them your money and personal information. list ton this. an m & t branch in rodgers forge isn't earning everyone's trust. as joce sterman discovered, some documents with your personal information aren't being properly disposed. instead, they just got dumped. >> reporter: it's the little machine experts say you've got to have to keep your personal information safe. banks are supposed to use the same technology to protect you. >> we're closing our account. >> reporter: we found one baltimore county bank didn't send your stuff through the shredder. they simply tossed it. >> that's outrageous. a dumpster? not shredded? >> reporter: sandy and ray watts are angry. we got our hands on their social security numbers, their bank account info. we even know their mother's maiden names. we got it all thanks to their bank. >> you get letters from them that they are protecting your identity and this and that, and then they do this. >> reporter: what they did was dump their documents and dozens of others without shredding them. we found them in this bright red dumpster in rodgers forge outside the m & t that recently took over bradford bank. >> this is the checking account they just wrote here and here are the social security numbers. >> reporter: we sifted through the trash to find stacks of canceled checks written just days ago and found page after page of papers who list banks, account numbers and how much dough they have. one customer claims they add already done it to janet lovell. we found a letter describing how someone had used her ath card to sceel -- atm card to steal money and the bank threw it in the trash along with a copy of her driver's license. >> reporter: what do you do when you you see this? >> i don't understand it. they have shredders. i don't know what to say. >> reporter: you are supposed to use the shredders and other tools to destroy any sensitive information. it's part of a federal guideline this bank didn't follow putting customers and all of this paperwork in danger. >> you don't know who else may have seen this information as well. you clearly have seen it. there may have been other parties that have seen it as well and duplicated it or recorded it off the documents. >> reporter: that's why security experts say all this sensitive information should be protected and kept out of the hands of anyone who doesn't need to see it. it's standard policy, but even that policy got trashed in this bank's transition. >> here's an important part for privacy. privacy that was not protected when the bank took over. the bank says "they had strict controls in place but some material was mishandled." they called it a clear violation of the policies. m & t claims most of the trash picking turned up old stuff that pose nose risk. the -- poses no risk. but we had to give new account numbers to 52 customers. >> we're just lucky you found them and not other people. >> reporter: people who know that when a bank drumps its trash, your trust could go with it. joce sterman, abc 2 news investigators. >> m & t bank says they are conducting an extensive investigation, but they believe this is a single case of human error. if you would lake to read the entire statement from m & t, go to our web site, abc2news.com, and by the way, the documents that we picked up as part of the investigation was shredded. the ravens are getting ready for their big division game against the bengals, but we want to make sure we're ready for the game and there's no other way to get ready than the sandwich. coming up, joe flacco has been in charge of the offense but how can you control the hunger? >> i was doing grown up music and playing in all of the clubs and everything. all of a sudden, i was thinking i want to do something full time that's with music. a friend of mine said you should work with kids. i was like, i don't know anything about kids. and well, i never had -- i never baby sat or did any of that. somehow i started working with jim bore reand started managing for a while. somebody said you need to go with this and do it on your own. i love working with children and doing music. next thing you knew i was writing children's music. >> that's great. >> you have the cd. >> i do. >> looking at this and just knowing kids' music. you get to be so creative with the writing and the songs. you must love it. >> i love it. the kids inspire me. i teach at a couple of different kids' schools. every morning the kids teal me what they did all weekend and what they like. i always try the songs out on them at birthday parties and if they like it, then it goes on the album. it's a nice little system. >> i know you are from new york. but we'll tell you where you can hear joanie play. meantime, will you play something for us? we have tonight through tomorrow morning. all of the events tomorrow around town. i think the rain gets out around dawn. most of the day, though, will be breezy and gradually improving the setup with cooler temperatures. 79 degrees under partly cloudy skies. quick peek at the weekend, highs in the 60s with the rain only early saturday morning. 9:46. back to you. >> it is time to dime and no better place to dine in baltimore than salt. chef jason ambrose is here making chowder. what are we smelling that's so fantastic. >> first of all, you are very kind. the way i always start a clouder is with a pork product. in this pan right here, they are rendering down apple pood smoked bacon. >> is this hard to do? >> i don't think so. it's not like you are working with electricity, you are cooking. what's the worst thing that could happen? we'll do a southwestern pork chowder with cilantro. every chowder i start with rendering the fat here, and really simple ingredients that will show up in chowder. so we have celery and we have white onion. we go ahead and dump that right into the pot. >> want me to do that for you? >> sure. >> here's my contribution. >> look, you are cooking. >> hey, look at that. >> stir that this and work with the fat. >> how long do you want to stir that? do you want them to be soft? >> we want the onions to be translucent. we don't want to see any color on them so to speak. so that's when's going on. our next step would be to add the corn because we're going southwestern on it. >> you cut this right off the could be. it's not from a can. >> i did cut it. if i was going to go and this time of year you see less and less fresh, the frozen corn is a good product. >> i like this. you have everything predone for us so i can just dump it in. cooking with you is easy. i do it all the time. is this chowder on your menu? >> not this specific chowder but we always have a chowder this time of year. i'm a new england boy. don't hold it against me after last week. >> yeah that's true. >> we always have some kind of chowder for now until february or so. so as you can see, our corn's cooking away. our next step is a tricky step that's bother some to some people. >> the flawr. >> this will be the thickening agent. we'll make a pan roux here and i'll take a bit of flour. we want to work it around. >> this is one of the things you want to add a little at a time? >> sure. you don't want to overflour it. put just a little more on there. the creaminess will come from the dairy but you can get some from this as well. it's clumping up a little with all of the vegetables. that's look going. >> it smells amazing. >> now, next, what we have here is we have a corn stock that we made, but as i made this by scratch, nowadays there's basic stocks on the market. you could also go with chicken stock or something like that. we're going to add about two cups of this. >> how are we doing? we've got about a minute left. >> oh, yeah, we'll make it. >> immediately, can you see that starts to get a creamy consistency to it. then next, i am just going to go right inside of here. >> , a, the secret stash. >> i'll add potatoes some diced yukon gold. >> this is a full meal. >> and it does fill you up. >> we'll have equal parts of the stock with two cups of heavy agreement there as well. we'll stir that up and finish. we'll let that simmer out or boil. it will get nice and thick. then we finish with just cilantro. >> can you overcook this?
