outer loop at liberty road. you'll see no problems including delays or incidents. the only thing to let you know about, is ongoing water main break repair is going to have that intersection closed until further notice. use hanover street this morning. i guess ongoing as an alternate this morning. traffic is really quiet downtown. jamie and megan, back to you. we have an abc2 news exclusive to start off the show. we're taking you to fulton avenue in the western part of the city where an officer was involved in a crash. this happened before 1:00 this morning, injureing two other people. investigators aren't saying what caused this crash on fulton. five counts. one returned guilty as the jury returned verdict yesterday after deliberating the trial of mayor sheila dixon. abc2 news sherrie johnson has one of the biggest stories for the city. >> reporter: we are live outside of baltimore city hall right now where some city council members are a bit shaken after yesterday's news. many are still supporting the mayor. the verdict came yesterday about 12:30. the jury convicted mayor sheila dixon on one count of misappropriation by a fiduciary. the judge declared a mistrial on count six. the state has until the end of the week on whether to refile charges related to that count. dixon promised that city hall will run as normal. >> what i would say to the city of baltimore is that the city will continue to move forward. we will still continue to stay very focused. >> i think the message is that there's nobody above the law. everybody will be treated equally. we have tried to treat everybody in all these investigations equally. >> reporter: now when asked whether mayor dixon would step down, her attorney says all things are being considered right now. >> let's do a quick recap on what mayor sheila dixon was and wasn't found guilty of. jury found her guilty of one count for misappropriation of giftcards donated by patrick turner. it's embezzlement, a misdemeanor crime. not guilty of felony theft, theft of giftcards less than $500 purchased by baltimore city housing and misconduct in office. two minutes after 5:00. so now the big question is, legally what is left for the mayor to do? our legal expert says he's running down what he believes to be the likely scenario. take a listen. >> she files a motion and loses, she gets sentenced and suspended. she files a motive for the appeal, the appellate process could run 15 to 18 months and then if she loses, then her conviction becomes final and she goes to being the suspended mayor to being the removed mayor. >> and earlier last night, abc2 news marybeth marsden spoke with another legal expert about whether or not mayor dixon is allowed to stay in office while this is happening. >> there's conflict in what people were feeling about whether the mayor was legally allowed to stay in office after the verdict came down today. >> she is permitted to stay in office, up until there's a sentencing. there's no concern right now that she needs to get the milk cartons out and start packing up and leaving. when the sentencing happens, that will change. >> this is by the city charter and the constitution of the state, right? [ female announcer ] tide stain release. stains out. no doubt. it is 5:14 now. a new assignment and promise by the president before the world last night. >> in our vital national interest to send an additional 30,000 u.s. troops to afghanistan. after 18 months our troops will begin to come home. >> at the united states military academy at west point last night, the president argued that the most important difference in that the american people were viciously attacked from afghanistan and attacked by al-qaeda. barack obama's announcement that 30,000 more u.s. troops will be sent to war. a tow truck driver in houston texas shaken this morning, definitely, but safe after firefighters pulled him from a river. investigators say the truck slid off the road last night and ended up in the bay. now it took rescue crews about an hour to save him. it's one of the most remote places in the planet. we're talking about alaska, but it's home to about 20 members of the u.s. coast guard. the storm dumped about a foot and a half of snow recently. hurricane force winds battered the area, forcing members of the coast guard to stay inside. >> yikes. >> that's tough. >> yeah. >> they're getting stuck there. >> never got to alaska, jamie. >> how about key west?
