court announcing he would save opening statements later in the trial. police spent hours searching an abandoned well for the missing baby in kansas city after a tip was called in. authorities say they found nothing. the well at a condemned home in the neighborhood where lisa irwin's family lives. her parents say she was taken from her crib a week ago and they have hired their own private gator to conducted michael jackson's autopsy. >> jurors heard how conrad murray broke the news of jackson's death to his family. diana alvear has the the latest from los angeles. good morning, diana. >> reporter: good morning. most of the medical examiner's testimony was highly scientific and very, very dense. but make no mistake about it. what he said could be disastrous for conrad murray's defense. >> true. the whole truth. >> reporter: detail by detail, a medical examiner for los angeles county disected dr. conrad murray's defense that jackson gave himself the fatal dose of propofol. >> you would have to assume that mr. jackson woke up, he was able to somehow administer propofol to himself. and then he -- stops breathing and all of this takes place in, in the two minute period of time. >> reporter: christopher rodgers said the lack of monitoring equipment indicated murray had no way of measuring exactly how much propofol he was administering. earlier the court heard the rest of murray's interview with police. he described his first meeting with katherine jackson, when she arrived at the hospital to see her son michael. >> he is not dead, is he? and the doctor said yes. and she broke down. >> reporter: jackson's children were inconsoleable. paris telling murray. >> i will wake up in the morning. >> reporter: murray said jackson's father never showed up. detectives told the doctor they tried several times to reach him but were unsuccessful. murray's attorney said they ordered hum to turn off his phone. a detective also testified the scene was not locked down until fight over his jobs plan. all 46 republicans in the senate and even two democrats voted against it. president and lawmakers are trying to figure out what is next. abc's sundland miller is on capitol hill. good morning, sundland. >> reporter: good morning, rob, tanya. president obama has been pushing for this vote for two months the senate defeat is a crushing blow for president obama who personally put himself on the line. it wasn't even close. >> on this vote, the yeas are 50, nays are 49. 3/5 of the senate duly chosen and sworn, not having voted in the affirmative, the motion is not agreed to. >> reporter: democrats were ten votes short, the bill now defeated goes nowhere. republicans and even some democrats said the 447 billion dollar price tag was just too high. republicans imposed the tax increase on millionaires. high president obama blamed the republicans calling it obstruction and said in a statement, this vote is by no means the end of this fight. we will work with senator reid to make sure that individual proposals in this jobs bill get a vote as soon as possible. the white house supports breaking the bill up into pieces. they think they can pick up more support on individual votes on the payroll tax extension, unemployment insurance, increased spending on infrastructure. >> we are not going to wait for congress. so, my instruction to jeff and gene and valerie and all the advisers sitting around the table is scour this report, identify all those areas in which we can act, administratively, without additional congressional authorization, and just get it done. >> starting today, senators will go back to the drawing board, basically starting over to find a way to advance this bill. they'll look at the individual parts and see what parts of those can pass. rob, tanya. >> you know one controversial thing here, senators voted to increase tariffs on chinese made products. you know, arguing they're taking over a lot of american business. but, a lot of economists, criticizing that move, saying, if you anger china they can start dumping our debt. that could be disastrous for us. >> we owe a few pennies to china. >> absolutely. >> moving on, the economy took center stage at last night's republican debate. herman cain's 999 tax overhaul plan came under fire. the plan calls for a 9% income tax. 9% national sales tax, and 9% corporate income tax. cain says it would create tax equity. not so much according to his challengers. >> when you take the 999 plan and turn it upside down, i think, the devil's in the details. >> i don't need 999. >> i thought that was the price of a pizza when i heard it. >> they want to pass what they think they can get passed rather than what we need which is a bold solution. >> front-runner mitt romney says cain's simple answers aren't adequate for the job. speaking of romney, he headed into last night's debate with a major endorsement, new jersey governor chris christie was backing the former massachusetts governor. at the joint news conference, christie and romney hammered rick perry on the issue of religious intolerance. they're angry about remarks by a supporter who said romney is not a true christian. >> i think any campaign that associates itself with that type of conduct is beneath the office of president of the united states in my view. governor perry selected an individual to introduce him, who then used religion as a basis for which he said he would endorse governor perry and a reason to not support me. i just don't believe that that kind of divisiveness based on religion has a place in this country. >> experts say christie's endorsement is meant to send a signal to members of the republican establishment that they should begin falling in line behind romney. significant too, romney in the second go-around came head on and addressed the issue of religion and his faith. >> something he will have to do going forward. from a total endorsement to a total rejection. those wall street demonstrators moved their protest from manhattan's financial district to new york's swankiest residential district yesterday. >> they gathered outside the homes of some of powerful message. the demonstrators took the area where the richest work where they live come home to wives, husbands, children. the occupy wall street protestors marched in one of america's wealthiest neighborhoods. manhattan's upper eastside. home to j.p. morgan chase c.e.o. jamie diamond, media mogul, rupert murdoch. it is a section of the city where palatial apartments and doormen are common place. they're demanding an extension of new york's so-called millionaire's tax. the state's highest income tax rate on people with annual incomes above $500,000. demonstrators believe tax revenue could and should be used to help the nonrich, carry oversized checks to symbolize how much less the wealthy will pay when new york's 2% millionaire's tax expires in december. >> there is a big social disparity in terms of the peep that have and people that don't have. protests spread to more than 250 american cities and more than 1,000 countries. in boston, 200 police officers in riot gear surrounded a park tuesday morning when they said protestors refused to leave. roughly 100 per tide up with cables and arrested. >> we are the 99%! hours later in the nation's capital, approximately 100 people showed up at the office bidding as part of a flash mob. six people were arrested, some dragged off and charged with unlawful conduct. >> the issue is that certain individuals that are very
