Now to our big story busted from entertainment and Office Supplies to electronics and a even gravesite a brookfield teacher allegedly makes extravagant purchases with stolen money. Bret lemoine live in brookfield. A School District spokeswoman says 53year old Phillip Olson was placed on administrative leave. And then fired in april of 2015. Just yesterday, he was charged in Waukesha County court. Photos obtained through the Brookfield Public Library show Phillip Olson in happier times. Olson worked at Brookfield Central High School from 1991 until he was fired in 2015. According to the criminal complaint theres good reason why this former choir director is now singing the blues investigators say they were tipped off to suspicious activity involving a payment for a student activity transaction in march of last year. A forensic accountant believes there have been funds missing since involved in fundraising for the Choir Department and dealt specifically with donations parents made to the School Related to music activities. Under questioning, police say olson admitted to depositing funds into an account under his own name. And also one called central choir association. neither account was authorized by the School District. In a letter sent home to parents thursday night, the schools principal assures brookfield central families that procedures have been implemented over the last three years. But they dont tell parents how much money went missing. According to the criminal complaint, it adds up to 72 thousand dollars. Olson allegedly admitted to using the funds to pay off his discover card. Police say olson used the money at casinos in wisconsin and neighboring states. He also allegedly purchased groceries, electronics, hardware, medical supplies and even. A gravesite. Of that 72grand. Police say 23thousand was used for the choir. And olson allegedly reimbursed the police say he still owed the brookfield central student activity account 47thousand dollars. We reached out to brookfield police, the das office. And even former pto and School Board Members for comment. No one responded to our request for an interview. Reporting live in brookfield, bl, fox6 news. Milwaukees mayor is strongly suggesting City Residents in filter. Its one of the steps to protect against possible lead contamination in older homes. Now those comments have caused a bit of a rush to local Hardware Stores. Krystle kacner joins us from the news room with what you need to know. Its not the city water supply or the water mains that are the problem. Its older laterals the pipes that come from the water mains to the homes themselves that may contain lead. This is not an alarmist call may case of 70 thousand homes in milwaukee. Lead could be an issue. What we said in february, and what we have said repeatedly since then but i think there is a value in repeating it over and over again whats relatively new the mayors suggestion for those home owners homes built before 1951. To buy water filters. The news for me was how effective he thought the filters were. And thats why i voiced it. I thought, heres an expert who says these filters are amazing effective. Im not barrett met that expert on a panel about water supply and safety. Theres no cause for alarm. Milwaukee is not another flint, but people are realizing the existing lead. Is not protectant of public health. Especially if you have a lead pipe or infants eating formula we have to do a whole lot betterthat professor with impressed with how milwaukee has been handling this issue thus far. And now. Some seem to be following up with his advice. On the filters one Hardware Store on downer. Sold out in a day. Another on prospect had a few left. Health experts say what you need you need to look for the nsf standard 51 certification on the box. That lets you know. It will remove lead. If it were my Family Living in that house id recommend theyd use bottle water for cooking or drinking or the lead certified there is a Long Term Plan in the works to potentially replace all impacted laterals but it is a huge undertaking. First priority will be Child Care Centers which could be fixed using federal money. In the newsroom, kk f6n. The blood center of wisconsin is marking the 15th anniversary of the september 11th attacks, with a special blood drive. The blood center is urging people to thank First Responders by making an appointment to donate blood just like many did in the wake of the attacks 15 years ago. Local Police Officers and firefighters will be on hand to take calls tomorrow morning from 7 to 10 am. Donors who make and keep an appointment to give blood will as we start wrapping up summer, to many next june is still a long time away. But thats not the case for the usga as they prepare for the us open championship to be held at erin hills golf course. Brandon cruz goes beyond the game and found out much of the course is ready for pros right now. We feel very strongly on where this course is at this point and time. The game of golf. But one is ticking at erin hills golf course in Washington County as the usga is preparing to host the 2017 us open championship in june. So far, the usgas championship manager, eric steimer, hasnt heard any alarm bells. Weve had a great summer here in terms of not just play but also being able to get the course ready for next year zach reinenking the superintendent out here you know when with just under 300 days to go until the event tees off, the conditions of the fairways, greens and ever noticeable fescue surrounding the course are where superintendent Zach Reineking likes it. Besides some minor tweaks, he and the usga expect what theyre seeing this late in the summer is what the players will see in june. However, this will be a very different open course for the players. This is the first time we will play a par 72 us open since 1992, the tour players are at a us open championship but they are going to get that opportunity here at erin hills. With the differences and the uniqueness that erin hills will provide, jeff hall, the usga managing director of rules open championships sees a true test for the national championship. I think the byproduct of a set up does put a value on par but we dont go into it and look at a golf course and say what do we have is not the approach we take we try to setup each hole to be the challenge that it is. Were trying to provide as thorough an examination in golf skill as we can, if were in control of the water here im very confident that the exam will be complete. Another difference for the usga with erin hills, is the course will remain closed from october through the tournament, giving reineking the opportunity to make it shine on this fall will go into effect, aerification of the greens will happen in the fall rather than the spring so really gives us the opportunity to kind of fine tune and groom the golf course its easy to do that when you dont have to worry about play during the day. Critics may question hosting the us open championship at a new location, but that isnt a concern to the usga here. Theres an opportunity to be creative here to get to try something new out here and i do that and still make the spectator experience as great as possible, how can we make the players experience as great as possible. While erin hills isnt on the clock to host a future u. S. Open, the usga hasnt hit snooze either. We are really really excited about the relationship we have with erin hills and just ready to go for next june, lets make history next june and see where the where the future lies.
