For 7 years, the Rolling Hills of long fescue, short fairway grass, and smooth putting greens at erin pateks summer office. He walks over it, around it and through it so many times that hes intimately knowledgeable about every aspect of the home of the 2017 u. S. Open championship. Thats the best part of this job is people are here because this course is special. And then because you can make it a little more fun because you know make sure you miss much further left than you think. Or, take 3 extra clubs because its more uphill. I mean that helps them enjoy it. I think knowing 14 green, how fun that green is. Or kind of the nuances of the course, i mean all the caddies here have that knowledge. I mean being here a long time, i know doesnt necessarily change a lot, but its fun. Looping for players is a loo rewards. Its very important to understand people and to make sure that im here to help them play golf and to help give them lines and read putts. But, im also here to help them enjoy it. And thats about being knowledgeable. But being a caddy isnt the only way he understands and helps people or makes a living. Teaching is a great way to do that because im the president and the secretary and the head of hr and everything and im the product when it comes to playing the violin. A job hes enjoyed much longer than violin and other string instruments in his hometown of mequon. Its a question of, kind of creating an income basically. As a freelance musician you have infinite options. If i pigeon holed myself and said im only going to play in an orchestra, i would have to work really, really hard. And id have to have the chips fall exactly right when you have those auditions to land a full time position, even be a soloist, thats the next level. Or, i can say that im a abilities. When you work hard enough, then, those chances, they come around and the chances are teaching and teaching doesnt lead to just more teaching. It leads to performance options. And it leads to playing gigs. And does he play gigs. Ever since graduating from the university of wisconsin, patek has worked hard enough and been fortunate enough to play around the world. I just got to play with the lucerne symphony in lucerne, switzerland. Thats where i work mostly as a performer in switzerland. So, switzerland, france, germany, ive played in italy. Played in spain, the czech republic. And then i just, with the lucerne company, then i got to go to istanbul and croatia for the first time. So, those were also really great experiences. And its because of the choices hes made that hes been able to live out his passion, which includes playing with one particular organization. My dream is the milwaukee symphony. I saw them growing up. Ive subbed with them a few times and i love it. Im giddy every time. I would be less excited to play with the new York Philharmonic than i am to play with milwaukee because i grew up as a kid. But, its a question of putting things together to fulfillment and its following a unique path to success. I think it helps keep me balanced or more balanced than i would be if i just played the violin. And maybe i would be a little better at the violin. Maybe i would play more with the milwaukee symphony or more with more prestigious orchestras or people would know my name more as john patek the violinist. But at the same time i feel pretty balanced mentally and spiritually and i feel good about what my life is and this is part o balances the stress and the work of music and then music balances this out. You know if i work here for 20 out of 23 days my shoulders are a little sore. My feet are a little sore and violin can make me forget about all those things. At erin hills, brandon cruz, fox in december, patek patick will be playing harry potter with the milwaukee symphony in the violin section and soloing with the Concord Chamber orchestra in may.
