That man turns out was the alleged shooter and he stayed on scene trying to revive the victim pronounced dead. Law enforcement not releasing any identities at this time, only saying that the victim is approximately 40 years old, right now no immediate information as to what is leading investigators specifically as to what sparked this deadly confrontation. Just behind me at the scene the state attorney is also on scene working with Hillsborough County investigators, no word at this point on any potential charges against the shooter. It was one of the most outdated schools in Pinellas County but just look at how gorgeous this campus is, as ivan was talking about. Its all full of trees and new buildings. So when the students started arriving this morning they were loving looking at all of these changes. So many of the kids you see here spent all of last year in temporary portables just waiting for their new school to be finished. Gone are the old broken air conditioners and its really cool. First time i stepped on it i thought it looked like a college. I guess thats what they are going for its nice to have a school and not portables. Reporter i bet. The school is also proud of its new automotive and welding programs which they say will help students get jobs right out of high school and the best part . They pay more than 10 an hour. Booker t washington carries an fgrade and known as high needs but leaders say todays a fresh start and focused with First Impression was students. If they dont feel our excitement and if they dont feel our passion and if we dont create a culture where they are excited to be here then we cant teach them the reading, the writing, the math they have to feel excited and warm and welcomed. Girdings says first on the agenda, taking a survey to find out what interests students outside the traditional subjects. Hillsborough county schools are doing their best to get rid of standing water and a new directive from Florida Governor rick scott has School Nurseses being trained by the Health Department to recognize symptoms like a fever or rash. Hillsborough county are already planning to send materials home explaining the zika dangers to families. Senator bill nelson is going to be in West Palm Beach to meet with local leaders about the zika virus. While there are four new cases in florida, what is not changing is where Health Officials think the infections are actually happening. The Health Department says all the people who contracted it locally were in a one square mile area of the winwood arts district. A hospital in maryland is cleaning out babies from clearing out babies, rather from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit commonly known as the nicu because of a potentially deadly bacteria. The hospital wont say if infants have died from exposure but sources tell the abc station in washington, dc that the bacteria was found in a water pipe after the death of two babies in the intensive care unit. The cdc says the bacteria can lead to severe illness if you have a system. The hospital shut down the unit after three babies in the nicu tested positive. A spokesperson for the hospital said they transferred nine babies out to other hospitals while officials investigate. They also say only that only that specific unit is affected. This morning there are new complaints that a kansas water slide was dangerous even before a 10yearold boy was killed riding it last weekend. We learned that just days ago 10yearold caleb schwab died from a neck injury on the water tallestp now people are coming forward saying their complaints to park staff about the slide were is ford. Several people who ignored. Several people say the straps that hold them down came loose and the ride wasnt smooth. We didnt think much of it. We told the people at the bottom, we told them about it and they didnt really say anything. Reporter 10yearold caleb schwab was killed sunday while riding this water slide in kansas. Its 168 feet high. So far theres on what went wrong. Memorial service for caleb is being planned for later this week. In the midst of a rainy week many people are checking to see if they have Flood Insurance. We know what can happen when the inches add up. In pasco county the director of Emergency Services says most of the people who filed claims last year did not have flood coverage. Across the u. S. A trammingic ac gorda Police Department is describing the an accidental shooting death of a 67yearold woman, Mary Knowlton shot by an officer. And Rodney Dunigan explains it all happened during a training exercise. Reporter that woman along with a group of more than 30 others participating in a citizens academy. Were told it was a roleplay situation. The officer played the bad guy. Now the police chief tells us the officer pulled his weapon with a live round. Absolutely devastated for everyone involved in this unimaginable event. Reporter a somber Punta Gorda Police chief tom lewis outlining details in the tragic death of 73yearold Mary Knowlton, shot and killed by a Police Officer in what is being described as an accident during the Training Session of the sit essential academy citizens academy. I ask you pray for marys husband and family and for all the officers and witnesses that everyone involved is in a state of overwhelming shock and grief. Reporter police say the scenario in which Mary Knowlton was killed is intended to demonstrate the decisionmaking process when using simulated lethal force in a live role play. The officers gun that should have been loaded was a blank. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the investigation. She was a librarian and also community. In a facebook message her niece posted in part please pray for my family as we all grieve my beloved aunt Mary Knowlton. Were devastated. How i loved her so much. She will be forever missed by all. It was supposed took peaceful protest marking the second anniversary of Michael Browns death in ferguson, missouri but turned violent overnight, after a driver hit a protester standing in the middle of the street. Some protesters pulled out guns and began to chase the driver, firing at the car. Gunfire. Overnight police spoke to the woman, they say shes cooperating with them and believe she didnt see the protesters standing in the street. Its not known how bad that protesters injuries are. The jail inmate who police say attacked the accused Charleston Church shooter is back on the streets just a day after that attack. Jail Officials Say 26yearold Dwayne Stafford attacked dylann roof in the shower last thursday in jail. The next day stafford was released after he posted bond. Its still not clear now who paid roof had bruises and refused to press charges. Hes accused of killing nine black Church Members during bible study last year. Now hillsborough commissioners are giving the first details in a proposal to use 1 3 of tax Revenue Growth for transportation. The funds would improve things transit. Good morning, its the first day of school for tens ten of thousands of kids and we invited the Crisis Center of tampa bay to talk about bullying in school. Whether youre youre build or doing the bullying bullied or doing the bullying, its swept under the rug so to speak too often. Theres a program, includes mentoring, training for school staff and workshops for parents. Here with more in our studios weve invited the ceo of the Crisis Center Clara Reynolds and angelina rivera, a child family and safety advocate. Thank you for joining us. A lot of people wont talk about this and say this will never happen to my child. What are the is the difference between your child being normal nervous about school . Or maybe showing signs of perhaps being bullied or being obviously first day of school, everybodys nervous. So that initial anxiety certainly is understandable. So if youve got a little person, first time in school or maybe they struggled in the past maybe the first couple of days you might see a little hesitancy. If youre starting to see it two, three, four weeks later, you may have a problem that you need to have addressed either with the school or with trusted professional. We talked about the large number of calls that the Crisis Center got from people under age 18. Share that with the viewers. Over 2,800 children under age 18 called the Crisis Center last year. There was a percentage of them calling us looking for assistance regarding bullying. Those are things we want to get to the community that certainly anyone can call us, at any age. So whether youre 10, 14, 25, certainly you can call the Crisis Center, call 211 for assistance. But it was surprising to see the number of young people that were looking for help. Under 18. Angelina. What is the youngest . Youve had experience with the kids . Gosh, my Program Covers kindergarten to third grade. So i work with children from the age of 4 to 5, all the way to third grade. Ive had parents disclose to me that even their children in universal prek or even in day care have experienced a lot of these concerns as well. They have been bullied. What is the parent . Listen to your kid. Oftentimes our kids are so embarrassed to even disclose information. Oftentimes they just want to protect the parent. You know what . Listen and be there.
