At this time the only description they have of that vehicle is that it is a dark colored sedan. As for the 45yearold victim, he has not yet been identified. Reporter lucas weiner says his service dog, rafael is the color of darth vader and his best friend. They go everywhere together. To stores, to play parks, to vacation. Reporter but before rafael stood by his side, few of those activities were possible for lucas. He lives with autism. Lucas wasnt sleeping, he wasnt eating. When we went out in public, he would tend to wander. I remember one time we were at the airport and we turned around and couldnt find him and he was outside, that kind of was a wakeup call, one of the reasons that we, you know, got rafael. Reporter now nearly two years later lucas parents describe life as fantastic. The stress is gone on our end and definitely on his as well because he knows his friend is always with him. People who live in this area here say it is common for cars to speed through this intersection, and there is no crosswalk at this intersection at 21st street or a crosswalk light. Take a listen. Certain night some cars come people have been trying to get a traffic light over here, but it hasnt happened. Happening today the full City Council Votes on a measure to restrict times square characters and painted ladies to specific areas. A Council Committee gave the plan a thumbs up yesterday. That is just one example of why supporters say this law needs or this legislation, i should say, needs to pass later this afternoon. But opponents say they have the right to be here in times square. The bill new york city city councilmembers will vote on today would give the Citys Department of transportation power to create restricted zones for them and others looking for tips. The bill new York City Councilmembers will vote on today would give the City Department of transportation power to create restricted zones for them and others looking for tips. Some people are feeling that they are getting unwanted and aggressive solicitations, and we want to find a way to create a space where people can continue to apply their trade and express themselves and perform, but tourists and others walking through this space can do so in a way that they dont feel theyre being impinged upon. This is where that 45yearold man according to police was crossing when that car struck him as it was heading southbound on 21st, leaving that man in the middle of the street where he later died. Police are still looking for the driver of that vehicle at this hour, but people who live in the area say it is not uncommon for cars to be speeding here. Certain nights, sometimes cars come flying down here, people have been trying to get a traffic light over there, but it hasnt happened. Its an intersection for this to be happening. Everything is just getting pretty out of hand over here. Victim later pronounced dead at elmhurst hospital. His name has not yet been released. New this morning, police have released images of a female suspect in yesterdays stabbing at a brooklyn subway station. The violence broke out at the ralph avenue station in bed stuy shortly after 6 00 p. M. Investigators say a 13yearold boy was stabbed in the stomach. He was rushed to kings county hospital. Hes expected to be okay. Several people who work with children have been arrested as part of a major child porn bust. A teacher and a bus driver are among 16 men arrested in the sting announced yesterday. Police say 36yearold thomas guzzi, a fifth grade teacher was among those charged. Elementary school in vineland. Investigators say guzzi had more than 100 files of child pornography on his personal computer. He was involved in drama productions, involving children at the schools drama club as their adviser an stage manager. And 55yearold eugene tristan, a bus driver for the Sparta School district is also facing charges. Hes accused of viewing child porn during his breaks. Investors were in a buying mood after minutes from the feds fed board is unlikely to raise Interest Rates this month because the Global Economy is slowing down. Before the opening bell this morning, the Labor Department will release the weekly unemployment numbers. This follows a pretty strong jobs report for march. It showed hiring is still going strong despite some turmoil in the stock market. Well, Fiat Chrysler is laying off 1,300 workers at a michigan plant. This is the first major layoff at a u. S. Plant since the financial and auto crisis. The plant makes the chrysler 200, its a midsized car that just has not been selling well as lower gas prices have more americans buying big irsuvs. Now, those low gas prices are also bringing down the cost of owning and operating a car. Its now at a sixyear low. Aaa ys falling gas prices are offsetting an increase in other costs like maintenance and Car Insurance which is going up. The agency says this year a driver can expect to spend about 57 cents for each mile driven and that comes out to about 700 a month which still souns like a lot. Jill, thank you very much. There is no crosswalk light. And this is precisely where police tell us that 45yearold man was walking across the street when he was hit by that vehicle that did not stop, leaving him in the street to die. Police telling us that that car was heading southbound on 21st street around 11 00 last night when that crash happened. People who live in the area say it is not uncommon for drivers to be speeding through this intersection. Certain nights, sometimes cars come flying down here, people have been trying to get a traffic light over there, but it hasnt happened. Its a moral intersection for this to be happening. Like theres no speed limits and everything is just getting pretty out of hand over here. A 45yearold man was pronounced dead at elmhurst hospital overnight. His name has not yet been released. Police at this hour are searching for the driver of the car that struck him. Right now they say that it is described as a dark colored sedan. It is a twoalarm fire along Second Avenue between 95th and 94th streets. We understand the fire was burning in the walls of the building. We were able to see some smoke coming out of the roof earlier. That appears to have died down at this point. No injuries have been reported. Scene trying to get the fire officially under control. Happening today, the full City Council Votes on a bill to restrict times square cakierer and paint ladies to characters and painted ladies to specific areas. The Council Approved the plan yesterday. Reporter dick and mary, this is certainly a very controversial issue thats garnered lots of opinions on both sides for the last several months. Now, the bill that the new York City Council will vote on later this afternoon would give the City Department of transportation the power to create restricted zones for painted ladies, costumed characters and others in times square looking for tips. This comes after numerous complaints from pedestrians and tourists about adwressive panhandling aggressive panhandling, fights over tips and even arrests. Several argue they have the legal right to be here. Some ticket sellers are also them out of business if theyre eventually also restricted. The d. O. T. Commissioner spoke at a hearing last week. Some people are feeling that theyre getting unwanted an aggressive solicitations and we want to find a way to create a space where people can continue to apply their trade and express themselves and perform, but tourists and others walking through this space can do so in a way that they dont feel theyre being impinged upon this is times square. Reporter now, if this does pass the City Council Later today and the mayor signs it into law, the city is hoping to have these zones in effect by the end of may or june, but that would be the fast track. A teacher and a bus driver are among 16 men arrested in the sting announced yesterday. Police say 36yearold thomas guzzi, a fifth grade teacher was among those charged. He works at the Winslow Elementary School in vineland. Investigators say guzzi had more than 100 files of child pornography on his personal computer. He was involved in drama productions, involving children their adviser and stage manager. And 55yearold eugene tristan, a bus driver for the Sparta School district is also facing charges. Hes accused of viewing child porn during his breaks. Both men face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. A pet shop owner says hes done nothing wrong despite what was found behind his store in paramus, new jersey. Early monday police discovered an unattended van, inside 67 puppies, crammed into cages and covered in filth. Some had no food or water. Police say the temperature in the van was just 38 degrees. The shop owner showed us an identical van he uses. He says the dogs were safe and partially blames the cold van on police. They were in a customized van that was fully insulated and fully heated. The temperature wasnt taken until the door was opened for who knows how long. As for all the feces, lasacco says its because the puppies got scared when the van was being pulled onto a flatbed Bergen County prosecutors are investigating. Dealing with acne can be frustrating and embarrassing, but can it be deadly . A new study says there may be a cancer connection. Cbs 2s cindy shu reports. Reporter for many acne is another unpleasant aspect of their teen years. It started off as a red spot and gradually get bigger. I felt it was the end of the world. When they burst, they leave marks, big, red, embarrassing and hard to cover up. Reporter but now certain acne sufferers may also be at risk of developing cancer later in life. A recent study found an increased possibility of melanoma for certain acne sufferers. It may not be related to the acne itself, but the cause of the acne in the first place. When you have excess acne, you probably have excess hormones as well. Reporter researchers follow add group of 1,000 nurses for 20 years years starting in 1989. They watched for different types of cancer, including melanoma and took note of any acne, the kind with cysts and boils. Of those 100,000, around 350 ended up developing melanoma. Thats about a 1 1 2 times higher rate than youd expect. Reporter allison santhouse is a physicians assistant at the new york Dermatology Center who agrees that in some cases excess hormones can stimulate and change the appearance of moles. We already know that the more moles somebody has, the higher risk they are of developing a melanoma in the future. So young women who have a history of acne may already and the study shows they already have an increased number of moles and that is most likely the link. Reporter and she says its imperative to be vigilant about watching for changes on your skin anyone who has an increased number of moles may want to get checked six months or eight months or a little more frequently.
