Police believe the woman who had no id on her had been hit by a private bus earlier in the night and the bus driver just kept going. I couldnt believe that cars were actually trying to go over the body. Its incredible. Reporter investigators on the scene for hours trying to retrace the womans final steps struck her. No human being deserves such a horrible, horrible, horrible death. Reporter and Police Telling us that the woman was in very bad condition by the time that they are hoping that nypd cameras in this vicinity will give them some clues as to the driver that struck the woman here last night. Reporter the gashes on the officers face needed more than 20 stitches after he was attacked and slashed by inmates thursday afternoon. Norman seabrook spoke out about the brutal attack. The evidence shows blood on his sneakers and clothing and he was the individual that was identified by the correction officer as the assailant. Reporter sources tell cbs 2 news the officer was manually unlocking a cell for an inmate when he was nut a choke hold and then held to the ground. Two other inmates helped hold him down while they slashed his face and body. After the attack, they returned to their cells. The officer was transported to the hospital with several lacerations. He says the assault shows the lack of punishment for violent inmates and is calling for action. Im thankful that the correctional officer is alive. Its unfortunate that i believe there will be an officer killed at the hands of the inmate because theres no penalty for what they do. The department of corrections said theres a zero tolerance for assault on staff and its seeking the rearrest of any inmate involve ised in the attack. The search is on for a burglar using fire escapes to break into apartments on the Upper East Side. He is accused of breaking into two apartments monday morning on 81st street. He allegedly stole laptop, jewelry, clothing and prescription medication. I feel really safe in this neighborhood to hear that it happened is really terrifying and i hope it doesnt happen again. I feel a little bit nervous. I thought Upper East Side was super safe but taking extra precautions. Police say the thief stole items worth more than 4,000. A white powder that disrupted Parent Teacher conferences at a Brooklyn School last night is now being tested. Thank you. For the pickup truck driver charged in a deadly long island crash this summer due in court today. Prosecutors say the 55yearold steven romeo slammed into a limb seen in july. Four women on a tour of wine country were killed and four others were seriously injured. He is charged with driving while intoxicated. A prison guard remains in the hospital this morning after Officials Say he was ambushed by inmates. Investigators say the group repeatedly slashed him, nearly knocked him unconscious. Andrea grymes is where the department of corrections is looking for answers. Reporter well, chris and mary, the department of corrections calls this an unprovoked assault with a weapon here at Rikers Island. This morning, the victim, an officer, is recovering and his union is furious this even happened. His face and head slashed and bloodied. A day at work landed correction hospital after inmates allegedly attacked him. Norman seabrook is president of the Benevolent Association. The inmate that perpetrated the attack, the evidence showed that he had blood on the sneakers and clothing and he was the individual that was identified by the correction officer as the assailant. Reporter the Department Says it happened yesterday afternoon on Rikers Island. Officer calderon was unlocking a cell when an inmate grabbed him from behind in a choke hold, bringing him to the floor. Thats when they say two other inmates helped hold him down while they slashed him. The officer was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Sources say he works in a division of rikers that handles young adults 18 to 21 years old and has been on the job for three years. I am thankful that the correction officer is alive. Its unfortunate that i do believe as the president of this organization that the there will be a correction an inmate because theres no penalty for what they do. Reporter well the department of corrections says in a statement theres zero tolerance for assault on staff and it is seeking the rearrest of any inmate involved in this attack. The search for the driver of a private bus involved in a fatal hitandrun. The victim, an unidentified woman pronounced dead at the scene in queens last night. So what police are trying to figure out this morning is whether the driver even realized that they struck the woman here last night because they simply kept on going. Police say the driver who struck the woman left her in the busy intersection for dead. Other drivers at first not even realizing what was in the middle of the street. I stopped right there right next to it because it looked dangerous. And then i see that its a person. Reporter she was the first to stop her car and call police for help after driving up to the remains on main street near casino boulevard in flushing around 8 30 last night. Police believe the woman who had no id on her had been hit by a private bus earlier in the night and the driver just kept going. I couldnt believe that cars were actually trying to go over the body. Its incredible. Reporter investigators on the scene for hours trying to to figure out who initially struck her. No human being deserves such a horrible, horrible, horrible death. Reporter and police say that the woman was very, very badly injured during the accident here last night. And they are hoping that video from some of the nypd cameras in the area will give them some clues as to who she was and who that driver was who struck her. But were told that the officer needed more than 20 stitches after this attack here at Rikers Island. His face and head slashed and bloodied, a day at work landed correction officer Raymond Calderon in the hospital after inmates allegedly attacked him. The inmate that perpetrated the attack, the evidence shows that he had blood on his sneaker, blood on his clothing and he was the individual that was identified by the correction officer as the assailant. Reporter the Department Says it happened around 4 30 yesterday afternoon on Rikers Island. Source ises tell us officer calderon was unlocking a cell when an inmate grabbed him from behind in a choke hold, bringing him to the floor. Thats when they say two other inmates helped hold him down while they slashed him. The officer was taken to the condition. Sources say he works in a division of rikers that handles young adults 18 to 21 years old and has been on the job for three years. I am thank that will the officer is i am thankful that the officer is alive. Its unfortunate that i believe as the president of the this organization that there will be a officer killed at the hands of an inmate because theres no penalty for what they do. Reporter the department of correction called this an unprovoked assault. And they said they have a zero tolerance policy for assaults on staff and they are seeking was involved. Police were all over main street as they worked to determine what happened in the moments leading up to that woman being hit.
