Reporter yeah, chris, were told that this accident happened just after 2 30 this morning and we are on deer park avenue where you can see police have closed off the exit access to the Northern State parkway this morning as this investigation gets underway. And right now, we are just getting preliminary information from police. They are deeming this a very serious accident. We want to show you some video from closer to the scene where you can see one vehicle involved, completely burned out. Police only confirming that one person was very seriously injured. But again, we can tell you at this hour as the investigation gets underway, police have closed the Northern State parkway in both directions between exits 41 and 42. Flames can be seen blasting out the windows of a chelsea Apartment Building this morning. Ilana gold joins us live from west 17th street. Reporter the fire is avenues. Take a look at the scene. Pouring from the top levels of the building. It is filling the neighborhood. People who live several streets away tell us that the smell has been so strong, it woke them up and they are out here watching crews douse the building with water. And we want to show you video from when the fire was raging at 3 00 this morning. The flames have been shooting from the top three levels and going up through the roof. Officials onscene tell us that the building is under construction. And no one was living here. There were no injuries or evacuations. People onscene are stunned by the images. Describe what you saw. Just saw black clouds and then five minutes later, i saw all the flames coming up from the bottom to the top and it was coming pretty heavy. And it took the Fire Department maybe at least a good 15 minutes before they got their water hose out and started putting out the fire. Reporter and back out here live, crews are trying to get the fire on west 17th street under control. They could be out here for another few hours. And again, the smoke is very strong. The city says it now has Outreach Services at all 468 subway stations and teams are deployed 24 7 in all five boroughs but some homeless advocates are not happy about the zero tolerance policies. Reporter yeah, chris, police now confirming that two people were killed in the accident very early this morning behind me. You can see Suffolk County police have access to the Northern State here along deer park avenue closed off as the investigation gets underway this morning. And we want to show you closer to the scene, you can see a charred, burned out suv, one of the two vehicles involved in this wrongway crash. Police telling us that it was ai headon collision that happened just after 2 30 this morning. Police confirming that two people were killed in the crash. And as the Investigation Continues, police have closed off the Northern State parkway in both directions between exits 41 and 42. At this point, the circumstances surrounding this crash, not entirely clear but police again confirming that two vehicles were involved in this headon collision. Two people dead as a result. Reporting live from d theix hills, long island, Janelle Burrell, cbs 2 news. We have more breaking news. A raging fire. Ilana gold is live from the scene. Reporter mary, we are standing on west 17th street and the smoke is so intense. Take a look. Its pouring from the top the levels of the building and filling the neighborhood. We have been watching firefighters dousing the building for several hours now and the fire isnt diagnose down. The smoke is so thick and isnt dying down and the smoke is so thick and heavy. This video shows the intensity of the fire. Neighbors started recording. This is between 7th and 8th avenues. The flames have been shooting from the top three floors of the sixstory building. And officials onscene tell us that the building is under construction, its being renovated for condos so no one was inside when it started and no injuries have been reported. And we talked to a man who lives in the building next door and he said he woke up to the smoke burning his eyes and evacuated seconds later. Describe what you saw. Flames coming through the roof and out of the windows. Reporter what did you think when you saw the flames . I dont know, just wondering if anybody was inside. But turns out it was being renovated, gutted. Reporter some scary moments for the people who live near west 17th street. Again, the smoke out here is very thick in the neighborhood. And firefighters are warning everyone to shut windows just to be safe. And crews tell us theyll be out here for the next few hours trying to get the fire under control. The medical examiner says Kiersten Cerveny died accidentally of acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication. Sources tell cbs 2 news she was in the city partying with friends. She was last seen alive on video entering an Apartment Building with a male tv producer friend. And four hours later, the same camera captured her body being carried out by the friend and another man who lives in the building. Sentencing for a queens man convicted of trying to kill an nypd sergeant. In june, the jury found 27year old john thomas guilty on all charges including the attempted murder of a Police Officer. His lawyer claimed the Police Officer shot himself. Thomas is facing a sentence of 40 years to life. You can still spot the blue and orange all over town. Meg baker reports. Lets go mets. Ilana gold joins us live from the scene on west 17th street. Reporter the fire is burning between 7th and 8th avenues. Take a look at the scene. Crews have been out here for hours now trying to get this under control. We just learned that firefighters are worried that the billing might collapse because they are dousing wit so much water. So four buildings on the block are now having to evacuate. You can see crews battling the firement theres some extensive damage out here. And you can see the thick heavy smoke pour prosecuting the building. Pouring from this building. We want to show you video from the fire fire this morning. Officials say it is under construction so no one was inside when it started and no injuries have been reported. People have been standing out here, watching this scene, stunned by the images. Describe what you saw. Just saw black clouds and then five minutes later, i saw all these flames coming up from the bottom to the top and it was coming pretty heavy and it took the Fire Department maybe at least a good 15 minutes before they got their water hose out and started putting out the fire. They have closed off access to the Northern State, exits 41 to 42 shut down in both directions as this accident investigation gets underway. And now police say thats one of the two vehicles involved in that wrongway headon collision that happened just after 2 30 this morning. And at this point, they are not yet confirming what happened in the moments leading up to the crash but again, they confirm at this hour that two people were killed in that accident.
