Icy continues are expected to impact travel and already this morning, some are blaming the ice as a possible cause of a major pile up last night. That left one dead and dozens injured. Freeze may have been behind a major pile up on a new jersey turnpike involving more than 15 vehicles involving four tractortrailers and a full bus. Investigators were on the scene and havent determined the cause of the fatal accident. The one witness said that the roads were like a skating rink. Across the northeast, a big dig is under way after a massive fourday snowstorm. Im crazy about the snow but its bad when you cant go without snow shoes because its too deep. Im so sick of it. What are people doing with the snow . Some cars havent been dugout since the first storm. They rejected a last minute appeal and the justices will take up the issue of gay marriage in april and by declining to put the marriages on hold the court appeared to be signalling it will not stop them anywhere when they decide the issue in june. This remains such an awful story. Hannah graham disappeared last fall. Nbc affiliate in charlottesville, virginia Jesse Matthews has been charged with her murder. Two sources are confirming to nbc that Jesse Matthew has been charged with firstdegree murder in the death of hannah graham. Matthew was seen with the sophomore on this Surveillance Video before she vanished. Matthew, 33 was charged with abduction in grahams killing. He has not entered a plea in that charge. Graham was 18 years old when she disappeared, prompting a month long search. Her remains were found october 18th less than ten miles after a night out with friends. Hannah never forgot and thats why. Jesse matthew abducted and sexually assaulted another woman walking home from the Grocery Store in fairfax, virginia in september of 2005. The 6yearold woman survived and helped detectives come up with this sketch. Matthew pleaded not guilty to all of the charges in that case. The fbi used dna evidence to link it with the 2009 disappearance Morgan Harrington who was found three months after she disappeared after attending a rock concert at uva. Matthew has not been charged in the murder but he could stand trial in the 2005 Sexual Assault case before he can be tried with the murder of hannah graham. At least seven people died as a result of crashes on our nations highways. Investigative cars. Good to have you here. Good morning. Our investigation shows how often wrong way crashes kill and injury on our highways. Several states are now using road signs, lighting and secinology to prevent them and experts believe those approaches save lives, making us wonder why isnt it happening across the country . There is a wrong way driver on the westbound side on third. Hes going to kill somebody. 10 30 p. M. In texas, a car streaking down the wrong side of the highway. Officers on the way, okay . More than 30 calls to 911 before he slams into a car driven by 18yearold sabrina fernandez, killing her and her unborn baby. My husband was the that caught me before i hit the floor. Nbc news obtained new data showing wrong way crashes jumped by 13 in texas last year. Across the nation about 4,000 people have been killed over the last ten years. More than one in five are fatal. There is no way to escape severe injury or possible death in these crashes when two cars collide at such a high rate of speed. In most cases they have been drinking like this crash with a truck driver hit on by a drunk driver going the wrong direction. In new york, a mother, heavily intoxicated with alcohol and marijuana killed people including her daughter and three nieces in a crash that received nationwide attention five years ago. We have to save lives and prevent injuries and that means ining money on technology or redesign. Debra herselfman led the National Transportation safety board in a study of crashes. Researchers and state experts across the country suggested changes to freeway ramps including sensors to detect wrong way drivers and new signs to better warn drivers before they go the wrong way. Some experts believe simply lowering warning signs would make them more visible at night and maybe even get the attention of drunk drivers. They will drive with their head down looking at the spedometer instead of on the roadway where they should be. California used lower signs since the 1970s. When california lowered the signs, they set up an experiment using cameras. They found was stunning. The lower signs eliminated wrong way entries to the road and a majority of the ramps. Arizona, georgia, virginia ohio and florida have lowered signs since. Police still dont know why the driver who killed sabrina was going the wrong way, but her parents wonder if the changes could have prevented her death. Why hasnt it hit here. The bullets from the study are that stress is associated with a worst out come one month after heart attack that women perceive stress more than men and this increased stress could lead to worse recovery from a heart attack. The reason that this is so important, we know that research suggested that stress can be a risk factor for Heart Disease and this is the first time we have seen data on how these psychosocial factors could influence a patients recovery after a heart attack. Women and men both have stress but because women were coming in with a higher base line the recovery was more affected . What they did at the time of the heart attack in the hospital they did a questionnaire and rated the patients level of stress and evaluated them a month later. Obviously for us we talk about this. This is important because this is the cohort of women ages 18 to 55 young and young middle aged women in this what we call sandwich generation. We are taking care of children and parents and we might be workingas well and not to discount or undermine the stress that men feel too, but the is study was looking at women and Heart Disease. When you are talking about a recovery not going as well as it otherwise might have we are talking about slower return to what you were able to do before . Talking about persistent pain and yoefrl quality of life. That raises a good point. This was only one month post mi. Perhaps more accurate end point would be death or disability. We dont have that information. Its not the most gloomy picture, but an important look into the issue. Since i have you here, women are certainly susceptible to heart attacks and we dont recognize the symptoms. Its important. It makes life easy and in the heart of the film its just a piece of crazy escapist outrageous action. Its overthe top. Union officials believe that certain rules are putting workers and riders at risk. All of septas train engineers work more than 40 hours a week and most work six days a week. This meeting comes after septa requested and received a waiver from the government on certain safety rules that allow those workers to work those hours.
