Some areas seeing that, delaware into south jersey, light snow of 1 to 2 inches. This evening could turn icy. As the snow warms up, changes over to rain, the ground will still be frozen. We could see icing, especially north and west of the city. By tomorrow, heavy rain. Theres a threat of flooding for the low lying areas and streams that are already high. This morning, very light snowfall. Steady in delaware and into south jersey. But were stillc really waitin for the first snowflakes in philadelphia. This light snow accumulating so far, just a dusting and beach avenue in cape may, it will be on and off this morning, steadier snowfall this afternoon. The temperatures are slowly climbing. Not much but its up to 19 degrees. Warmer than it was earlier. Mt. Pocono is even colder. It was at 0 when we went on the air. That will continue to climb throughout the day. Well see the temperatures climbing, 16 at 8 00. By 11 00 a. M. , 26 degrees with light snow. The steadier snowfall this afternoon but that will still be light. Again, im only expecting an inch or two in philadelphia but this evening, the potential for icing. Well go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when im back in ten minutes. You can see right in here, traffic is moving along. This is where the Police Activity is. Its on to the righthand shoulder. You can see a vehicle in front. The lights approaching this camera are making it difficult to see. With them flashing. You can see theres no big delay behind it in either direction north or southbound. Definitely something to Pay Attention to in the next half an hour or so, we might be able to see delays there. 295 at sloan avenue around hamilton township. No problem either direction there. On 295 if you have to get to the new Jersey Transit train station, youll be just fine. No delays for new Jersey Transit, amtrak, d. A. R. T. Is okay. Septa is running on a weekday holiday schedule. Patco running on a special schedule. Check before you go. Warmer than this time yesterday, a little bit. Now again were getting snow and later freezing rain as bill told us. It is dry at the moment here at lansdowne avenue. Penndot, theyre being prepared anyway. The biggest concern they have is ice. The d. O. T. Trucks are not the only ones out. Private salt crews have been out in parking lots. One thing working in their favors with that fewer cars were on the road on account of the president s day holiday. Im mainly worried about ice and were trying to be more proactive here, cabanas contracting, laying the salt below the ice comes. At the moment it is as i mention dry here in Delaware County, penndot says theyll be tracking the radar throughout the day and night so they can react once that snow begins changing over to snow and ice. I stayed in my dorm, didnt go to the dining hall, didnt go to the library. The Montgomery County Health Department hopesc to have an answer as to why it spread so quickly within a week. The body of a woman found stuffed in a recycling bin in lehigh county. It was found yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of an apartment complex on east tilghman street in allentown. She was wearing pink nail polish and blue stockings. Investigators are calling her death suspicious. In philadelphias point breeze neighborhood, two men posing as utility workers burst that a home and attacked a woman on sunday woman on south mole street. The atmosphere will be warming, the snow changes over to rain. The ground is still frozen. Freezing rain is an issue this morning. By tomorrow its heavy rain which could bring a flood threat for parts of theary. c especially lowlying areas that tend to trend naturally. Reading is cloudy, 15 and wilmington is 18 degrees and cloudy. Snow coming down on beach avenue. It is very light in cape may. As far as philadelphia is concerned, see scattered light snow, very light. Its steadier to the south and central delaware, especially in the dover area. Youll see more accumulate in central and southern delaware and into south jersey, then the rest of the area. At 12 15, snow will be falling in new jersey for salem, glassboro and tabernacle. Heres the issue. As it changes over to rain, thats rain falling while the temperatures are still cold at the surface. Tabernacle, glassboro, sail ellell salem. The same threat for areas north and west, become and Montgomery County. A light snow is coming down. Here comes a narrow band of sleet and the potential for freezing rain. Thats 6 00 this evening as we go into the 7 00 hour. The temperatures are just below freezing. We could see icing and not just on roads and sidewalks, but also on power lines and on cars. The good news here is well get snow ahead of time. That usually doesnt help the power line situation. This evening is one to watch. During the day, 20s for allentown, reading and quakertown, light snow falling during the daytime hours. Trenton, mt. Holly and norristown. At the shore it starts off as snow and changes to rain as the temperatures climb into the low 40s for Atlantic City, cape may and rehoboth. Heavy snow is being blame for this massive pileup on an indiana highway, the 40car crash left 40 people hurt yesterday. Interstate 65 was closed for about five hours for cleanup. You head out the door for your morning commute, out in princeton, new jersey, up north. Watch out for an accident scene. Pretty major closure, route 206 closed in both directions from mountain avenue to princeton avenue. They have a detour working around that scene. Follow that to be just fine. Out in lower frederick, watch out for an accident scene on spring mount road and north gravel pike. This is around cottman avenue where we have Police Activity. The lights coming towards us makes this camera bright and difficult to see. We do have Police Activity over into the righthand shoulder. Now can see north and southbound traffic still able to move by that scene nicely. 6 19. I want to show you a live picture, a driving picture. This is from washington, d. C. You can see the snow on the edge of the roads there. It is already coming down in delaware. We just got an update from deldot, also in south jersey. Every so off innocent lights here, catch a glimpse of the few snowflakes. There go a few. Its very light snow. Not going to see a lot in the way of accumulation this morning. Snow at Philadelphia International. Thats the same light snow, 19 degrees. The temperature is climbing, though. Its still very cold outside, cold enough for anything thats falling from the sky to be all snow. That will change during the day. Well eventually see rain movinc in. That will bring another problem. Right now, d. C. Right on the edge of that snow. Its falling in delaware and into south jersey. There, just a few light snowflakes moving through philadelphia into montgomery and bucks county. The steadier snow comes in this afternoon. Youll see it at 1 00 this afternoon. By then well have an inch or so on the ground for philadelphia, wilmington, into south jersey. The accumulation will continue into the afternoon hours, 1 to 2 inches for philadelphia and wilmington. See a bit more in allentown and reading. But as we go into the evening, that is rain thats moving in, atmosphere is going to warm up significantly with this storm. The ground will still be frozen and that could lead to icing. A big threat for this evening. Then tomorrow, the threat will be heavy rain. Temperatures will be way above freezing. By noontime, look at the rain moving in from the west. Theyll sweep through during the afternoon hours. 1 inch, 2 inches or more of rainfall and that could lead to localized flooding. For today, youll see snow developing and then a brief period of sleet and the potential, the threat of freezing rain late this afternoon and into this evening. The temperatures will be climbing. Theyll be in the lower 30s today. They warm up overnight tonight and tomorrow, look at that, 56 degrees with heavy rain coming through in the afternoon. The flood threat is gone. By wednesday we have sunshine, 46 degrees wednesday afternoon. Breezy and cooler on thursday. Well be back below freezing thursday morning and warming to just 39 degrees thursday afternoon. Stand by. Theres a warming trend that will be timed perfectly for the weekend. It will be accumulating snow. It will be light, an inch or two in philadelphia. The problem comes when things actually get warmer, that will change snow over to rain. But the ground is still frozen, so that rain comes down and freezes on impact, it will make for a very icy evening in parts of the area. Tomorrow, all rain but a heavy rain brings the threat of flooding, especially the lowlying areas. The snow weve seen so far has been light, moving through philadelphia, a few snowflakes. It is a dusting of snow in south jersey and into central delaware getting steadier but its going to take most of the morning to really get going. This morning, the light snow this afternoon, its going to be rain for the shore. Big warmup ahead for points right along the coast and eventually that moves into the rest of the area. Reporter weve seen a few flurri flurries in lansdowne, Delaware County. We do know penndot crews are hitting the roads with some 200 plows and trucks. Their biggest concern is ice. Private salt and plow crews, they have been salting the parking lots this morning. One of those drivers says he is busy pretreating and expects to be busy throughout the day. He says that ice will likely be a big issue. One good note as vai mentioned, there are fewer cars on the road because of the president s day holiday. Deldot says crews are treating roads following a bit of light snow overnight. Many roads in sussex and ken the couldn kent county have a light coating. Live in lansdowne, Delaware County, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. A leaking fire hydrant sent waters gushing into the street in north philadelphia. The high dran hydrant has been philadelphia firefighters in frankford doused thisc smolderg auto body shop with water yesterday and with below freezing temperatures, that water quickly turned to ice. In north philadelphia, another sign how hard it is for firefighters working this bitter cold. They have ice on their coats and poured salt on the ground to make sure they didnt slip. Firefighters say dealing with fires in weather like this is a real challenge. The most difficult part is us trying to stretch hose lines, obviously icing immediately as were trying to move into a house, the steps freeze right away. Our footing is compromised. Everyone made it out of that home safely. Four people hurt in this fire in brooklyn. Flames tore through three buildings just before 10 30 last night. The Fire Department tweeted they finally had it under control. More than 140 firefighters worked to put out that hes flames. Hundreds of Temple University students are back in their dorm rooms after a burst pipe forced them out into the cold yesterday. Students returned to the 1940 dorm hall late last night. Frigid temperatures froze a steam pipe causing it to burst. Nearly 500 students spent much of the day keeping warm in other buildings on campus. Students tell us it was a rude awakening when the building alarm went off at 8 30 that morning. School is out today for president s day for most students. We could see an icy evening as rain comes down and freezes on colder surfaces. But then it changes over to rain for tomorrow. In fact, potential for heavy rainfall, 1 to 2 inches of rain. In spite of the clouds an a little bit of a breeze and the possibility of snow developing, not only this morning but especially this afternoon. There you can see light snow moving through montgomery, bucks county, into south jersey. Delaware seeing the steadiest snow in central and southern delaware, into the cape may area. Were not expecting a lot of snow, 1 to 2 inches possible. By noontime, into the noon hour, that snow is falling, temperatures in the upper 20s for glassboro and tabernacle. The numbers will be climbing in the upper atmosphere while it stays cold on the surface. This is 5 15 this afternoon. Rain cowl be freezing on contact, an icy evening. It will warm up so the threat will ease during the later evening hours. 12 15, light snow in limerick and norristown. During the evening hours, well see a band of sleet and rain coming down with temperatures below freezing. We could see icy accumulations north and west that will continue into the later evening hours. The ad ends by saying, quote, donald trump is just plain wrong. Cruz made the same charge against trump during saturday nights republican debate. Trump fired back, questioning cruzs honesty. It is cold again this morning. Temperatures in the teens. And we have clouds after that brilliant sunshine yesterday, its going to be a cloudy day today. Its going to turn snowy. Weve seen light snowflakes falling in that view from center city. Philadelphia international, 19 degrees with that very light snow. A steadier snow has been falling at the shore. It is a little bit snowier than it was firstc thing this morni in cape may. The light snow will be accumulating during the day. Eventually it changes over to rain. Its cold enough that everybody from this storm system is seeing snow right now. Its a bit steadier for dover into cape may, Atlantic City is seeing light snow and philadelphia, a few snowflakes have pushed into bucks county. It will be on and off this morning. The steadier snow at 1 00. Most of the area will be seeing snow with accumulation of about an inch for philadelphia and wilmington. It will run 1 to 2 inches by 6 00 this evening. The atmosphere is warming up, eventually we get rain. That will bring another problem because the ground will not be warming as quickly as the atmosphere. Heres what that means. During the day today, though, light snow, then sleet, then the biggest threat for later today will be the freezing rain. The warming that happens late this afternoon will continue overnight tonight and tomorrow well be lacking at all rain. Bucks and montgomery conte, the snow is coming down at 4 00 this afternoon. The evening hours, that is rain. Finally warmer temperatures for tomorrow with all rain in the area. The heaviest rain in the afternoon. That could produce flooding in lowlying areas.
