Two tragedies for students and faculty here, vai, in less than a month. We had learned grief counselors will be at the school when it opens in just a few hours, when students arrive. This latest tragedy happened yesterday. A ninth grade boy was shot and killed just blocks away from where were standing. It happened around 3 15 yesterday afternoon in downtown wilmington along Clifford Brown walk. Heres cell phone video of police showing up to the scene. The student who was killed has not yet been identified. We are trying to learn his name. We know he was shot in the head. Hes the second Howard High School of Technology Student to be killed in less than a month. Youll remember last month in late april, 16yearold amy joynerfrancis died after a fight with classmates in a school bathroom. The principal of Howard High School of technology wrote a statement online yesterday on the schools website saying im sorry to inform you this that a ninth grade howard student was shot, transported to Christiana High School and died of his injuries. c counselors and support staff will be available at the school. I have contacted Wilmington Police to find out if the shooter has been caught and what circumstances led up to yesterdays shooting. As soon as i have that information ill pass it on to you. You have so many people here, 10,000 spectators are expected to be here for the events that will happen over the next two days. 5,000 competitors. This started in 1927. The stotesbury regatta has been going on for 90 years. We have schools in our area that compete and have won races in the past. Rain is expected tomorrow.
