A post mardi gras celebration is held in effort to save a church that served the community for dozens of years. Joining me now is david, the executive director of the st. Mary polishamerican society. David, thanks for joining us. Thank you so much for having me. Absolutely. Tell me a little bit about this event this coming weekend. Well, this weekend, we have the polish mardi gras celebration which features live polka music from the band as well as yummy polish food, a basket raffle and 50 50 drawing and should be a fun time. Youre really hoping people come out to raise money. Yes. To save your church. Tell me about it. To save st. Marys church. Back in 2014, unfortunately, st. Marys was on the wrong end of the parrish merger process, impacting all throughout the region, and a group of us came together to raise money to cover the maintenance and upkeep costs of st. Marys church as well as to restore the church. Unfortunately, the roof is reaching the end of its life cycle, so the event we hold help cover the building, like property and maintenance as well as some of the other daytoday expenses, and then were also hoping to raise money for the roof campaign, which were relying on, hopefully, some donations from throughout the area, so anyone who can promote interest in helping to promote polish heritage and culture in Montgomery County certainly get on board and wed love to have you. Come out to the events to learn more about what were trying to do. Its really been a central, you know, unifying force. Yes. Yes. In the community, that church is beautiful. Its fantastically beautiful. My parents were married there. My grandparents were married there. Its just such a treasure and land mark for the community and to really all of Montgomery County, so near and dear to the hearts of the polish community, and its such a tragedy to lose that because once that is gone, it would be really be gone forever. They are not building churches like that anymore, so it really is all the least we can do to be able to pay tribute to the love that our ancestors had for both their faith, but also for their polish heritage. And the community. And the community. Right, absolutely. David, thanks so much for joining us. Thank you. Two to three years youve sustained it. Yes, yes, taking that next step up. Thank you very much. Thanks for joining us. Lets recap for the viewers. The polish mardi gras is sunday, noon to 6 00 at the tk club. For more information, go to nbc10. We bring School Groups to the venue during the day for handson interactive programs, and then we also do more indepth work at partner schools so we run residencies and workshops, after school programs, that kind of thing. What do you think the kids get out of this . Many things the kids can get out of it. They can get an experience that is really a memorable experience. To go into a topnotch club, i mean, world cafe is one of the best in the, you know, the united states, that ive been to, to be able to go to that club at such a young age and see an amazing atmosphere, but they get to walk away with different ideas of community and we talk about cultures. These days you can find a Youtube Video for anything, so all week were sitting down with experts getting advice on when to consult online tutorials and when to bypass them. We start with medical procedure advice. Reporter most of us use internet for information on everything. Youtube goes further offering howto videos on any topic. There are certain areas you should just leave to the experts. Theres just a huge potential for complication. Reporter we sat down with dr. Khristine who is in charge of Urgent Care Services for Main Line Health says Youtube Videos can be helpful for things that are noninvasive. Anything that would involve something that should be done sterilely or puncturing the skin, absolutely not. Reporter we looked up videos for setting a sprain and found most helpful for early treatment, but the doctor warns theres a limit. If its not getting better, if you continue to bleed, if you have a sting that continues to get larger, those are really reds. See your doctor. Reporter even a video about removinge ining a splinter was risky. The tool to remove the splinter is looks like craft good, with skin with a hole in it. You are putting a chemical on it. Thats a secondary rashing from the exposure. Reporter the best video was from an accredited medical organization on how to clean a scraped knee. What i like about it is its basic and directs you with things to do from home, things you can find in the drugstore. Most appropriately is, again, importance of this good old soap and water, which i think so many people forget when they first have any kind of a skin injury. Reporter so to recap, steer away from videos that shows you invasive procedures, and it is best to watch howto videos produced by hospitals or an accredited medical organization.
