When we arrived, the line spanned about two blocks past the center. Theres a very diverse crowd in here. Not just ethnically, but crowds are bringing their kids to witness this event. You may remember, it was supposed to take place outside with the historic backdrop of independence hall. It had to be moved to temple because of the threat of bad weather. We were dealing with flooding, several different accidents from the rain. Now were pretty much back to normal, but were slow, because we do have some rolling work crews up ahead southbound and now this drive time is inching its way up there at 19 minutes now. Adding on about seven minutes or so to your drive. Also paying attention to the Philadelphia International airport right now, were at 30minute delays for departing flights out of philadelphia. If youre heading to chicago, were up to 80minute delays due to weather. Katy . Thanks for that update. Clinton has struggled in this election and in elections past with showing a personal side. Shes often depicted as cold and untrustworthy. Her daughter addressed those criticisms headon last night. My earliest memory is my mom picking me up after i had fallen down, giving me a big hug, and reading me good night moon. From that moment to this one, every single memory i have of my mom is that regardless of what was happening in her life, she was always, always there for me. Chelsea said her mother was not only concerned for her wellbeing, but the opportunities for all children. While her daughter was on stage introducing her, clinton watched the speech from a back room at the Wells Fargo Center. She tweeted this picture with the caption so proud. President bill clinton also tweeted that watching chelsea speak was one of the greatest moments of his life. After senator clintons speech, the president gave his approval on twitter. He said, shes tested, shes ready, she never quits. Thats why hillary should be our next president. Then he joked the job comes along with the potus twitter handle. Clinton also used her speech to bash opponent donald trump. She imagine him in the oval Office Facing a real crisis. A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons. After clintons speech, donald trump immediately took to twitter. He tweeted, no one has worse judgment than Hillary Clinton. Corruption and devastation follows her wherever she goes. Protesters remained outside the Wells Fargo Center after the convention wrapped up late last night. The demonstrations were peaceful overall. Bernie sanders supporters say they are still angry about the Dnc Wikileaks scandal that seemed to prove the Convention Committee worked to hurt the Sanders Campaign while helping clinton. At least three arrests were made last night while our cameras were outside the Wells Fargo Center. We are expecting an update from Philadelphia Police today on the total number of arrests for the week. Happening now as we take a live look outside, it has already been a busy day at the Philadelphia International airport. Thousands of conventiongoers are leaving town and have been waiting in long lines. That all started since early this morning. For more on the dnc departures and any delays youll find, nbc 10s Pamela Osborne join us live from inside the airport. How are things moving now, pam . Reporter well, katy, everythings running pretty smoothly right now. There are a handful of delays because of the weather, but take a look, you can see the line is moving through very quickly at this point in time. We want to show you some video, because today is a huge travel delay for delegates and dnc attendees who are heading back home. Youve got them plus youve got your regular passengers flying out on a friday. We heard the longest lines were this morning around 4 30. We havent seen any long wait times since weve been here. One of the ways tsa agents have been speeding things up is by using k9s. The dogs theyre using are specially trained to sniff out explosives. Theyve been doing their own precheck of passengers and their belongings during peak times. Thats giving passengers the ability to hop in expedited lanes, so things moving a little bit quicker. We caught up with one passenger who was here for the dnc, she wasnt a delegate, but she was here with planned parenthood, trying to spread the word. She said her flight was delayed for about 40 minutes, but still, this trip was absolutely worth it. An amazing crowd, especially for an organization like ours. We signed up over 2,000 new members. We signed up almost 100 people who are willing to be volunteers. North, south, east, and west, all over the country. So you can see right now, as quickly as people are walking up to the tsa line, its just as quick as theyre getting through those security checkpoints this morning. Tsa is advising people to allow yourself plenty of extra time, about two hours, they say, before your flight, you should be here. You should expect it to take a little bit of extra time to get checked in. And of course, get through those lines, and before you get to the airport, make sure you check your flight to see if its on time. Reporting live this morning at philly international, im Pamela Osborne, nbc 10 news. Katy . Pamela, thanks for that. Last night, clinton capped off a fourday Democratic Party convention with a plea for National Unity and tolerance. And it was quite the scene at the Wells Fargo Center last night. Hillary clinton pledged to unit a divided country, and she cast herself as a tested, steady hand in troubled times. Clinton was also trying to unify her party and last night she reminded sanders supporters that she is feeling the bern. Ive heard you. Your cause is our cause. Clinton was not only looking to charge up the democratic base, but shes also trying to win over republicans. Americans dont say i, alone, can fix it. The national gay and Lesbian Chamber of commerce hosted a celebration at the Comcast Center in Center City Yesterday night. Last night, his mother described finding christmas presents that he had wrapped and left. It was in august, but moses, he always thought ahead. He brought gifts to relatives, for single parents, for strangers down on their luck. Moses served as a member of the Philadelphia Police force for 19 years. John mcnesby, president of the fraternal order of police, praised conventiongoers for making the change and adding family members of fallen officers to the speaking lineup. Another powerful and emotional speech we had heard at the Convention Last night came from the parents of a Muslim American soldier, who was killed while fighting in iraq. His father told the crowd how his son sacrificed his life to save the lives of other soldiers, and then reminded them that donald trump would not have wanted his immigrant son in this country. He was referring to the ban on muslims that trump has proposed. Donald trump, youre asking americans to trust you with their future. Let me ask you, have you even read the United States constitution . Chan urged those watching him not to take this election lightly and asked him to honor his sons sacrifice by voting for Hillary Clinton. Its 11 33 now. What made you focus your project on a philadelphia guy . Ive been living in the philadelphia area for about 20 years now, after growing up in new york. And i just listened to some of the stories that a lot of my friends here talked about, the basketball stories and the great tradition and the history here in philadelphia. I just thought it was a story that needed to be told. Well, so many people know about his death, that he had a heart condition, and that he ultimately he was taking medication, stopped taking medication, and that ultimately lead to his collapse and death on the court. A very public scene. So, tell me, why are people still interested 26 years after this happened . He was such a prominent, respectful figure in philadelphia. And people still recognize him to this day. They had hank gathers Basketball League on 25th and dime at the gathers center every sunday to honor him. And his friends that he grew up and played basketball with in the Public League, they still remember him and they wear his tshirts and they put up the 44th sign all the time. He has a great memory and Great Respect for the things that hes done for the citizens of philadelphia. He had a huge Fan Following and aspirations of going on to the nba. You worked with his brother on this project, right . Yes, yes. Tell me some of the things you learned from his brother about his family and some inside info about hank. Derek gathers was a huge instrument in making this film, just listening to some of the stories that he had told. But one of the things that a lot of people didnt know about hank, he was a great player in fchd, before he went to loyola marimount. He was such a dominant and physical man during that time. And he made the Public League great. He and his friends were great, even though they played at different schools. The competition they mustered up during that time was just tremendous. Yeah. Just made the Public League a great league at that time. Well, everyone should watch this. What an inspiring guy. And left us too soon, right . Yeah. Lets recap for everyone. It wont be a massive drop, but it will make it much more comfortable than its been lately. No chance for showers today, but that changes this weekend. The clouds return on saturday. Friday evening, this evening, nice and dry. A bit muggy outside. And tomorrow morning, well be watching for some showers. The first of them showing up at the shore. Thats 1 00 in the afternoon. And then moving inland. And this is where we can see them intensify. Some storms are possible even into the late evening hours on saturday. And even more likely well get some wet weather for sunday. So there are some changes ahead for the weekend, after we enjoy sunshine today, 86 degrees in philadelphia this afternoon. And 80s again tomorrow after morning low temperatures in the low 70s. The clouds increasing for tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, the best chance of seeing some showers and some thunderstorms in the area, not an allday rainfall for saturday, but we could see steadier rain in store for us on sunday. 84, the High Temperature, after another morning in the lower 70s. A chance of some thunderstorms on sunday. Then we finally start drying out, so skies break for some sunshine on monday. 82 degrees. The High Temperature, monday afternoon. And a shower is possible on tuesday, but, again, not an allday rainfall, some sunshine, 80 the High Temperature on tuesday. Thats cooler than its been in a long time, but a warming trend next week. By friday and saturday, were back into the 90s. Just for a couple of days. Clearing skies next sunday with a high of 89. As we told you yesterday, veteran eagles long snapper, jon dorenbos magical run on nbcs americas got talent, well, it continues. Jon dorenbos dorenbos advanced to the semifinals wednesday night after wowing the judges and the audience with his incredible magic tricks. Dorenbos had been excused from reporting to eagles Training Camp earlier in the week, so he could compete on the show. But he is back with the birds, at least for now. Jon dorenbos joins us from the nova care complex in south philadelphia to tell us more about this Pretty Amazing run. Jon, thanks so much for joining us. Thanks for having me. Well, eagles fans, for years, have known about this magic talent, but now youre getting some national exposure. So whats that like . Its totally rock star. So, you know, football and magic has been something in my life thats balanced my life for years and years. So ive been super fortunate to play in the nfl and for this wonderful city and this great team for 11 years, and now kind of to take it over to the theater and to kind of share a different side of me and a Different Energy about me and a different love that i have, i mean, its a total dream come true. Im loving it. Have you gotten to know the judges a bit . Asides from predicting what theyre going to draw on those pieces of paper, in terms of their personality, what are they like . You know, we dont have any interaction with them. The show does a great job of keeping it totally biassed and they generally want the judges to have no clue what youre doing and for them to be surprised to get authentic reactions. So my personal experiences with them are the same as everybody at home. Theyve all been super cool and obviously, im happy with the responses and, you know, sometimes even if you get a negative response, i think you just take it, you harness it, and you learn from it, knowing that these people know the entertainment business, they know what works and doesnt work. And its up to us to make our acts better. Well, philly is certainly cheering you on. It seems like you have a lot of support from your teammates. Any advice from your teammates or coaches . You know what, they like it, and its cool. Because in pro sports, we work hard and we push ourselves, not just for ourselves, but to be there for our teammates. And its a family atmosphere. And you want to do well for your teammates, and to be a true pro, you want the respect of your teammates. And so when all the guys got around and they showed the team meeting and everyone kind of came together and supported it, it was, honestly, it was a really cool feeling. It was kind of emotional for me and kind of just stepped back and really appreciated really appreciated that. Yeah, must make you feel good. Youre heading back to california next week. What is the next step . Its actually it will be a few weeks. Theres a few more episodes in this round, and then ill go back and nbcs been absolutely wonderful working with my schedule and the show and it will be minimal days missed. I think one day, you know, is a day off anyway. So to have the support of this organization and this city, awesome. And the teammates, its just dude, its rock star. Thats what it is. It is totally rock star. Ideally, we would have loved to have you in the studio to show us your tricks firsthand, but obviously the eagles take priority. So hopefully youll come back in the next few months or next few weeks after youve reached the pinnacle and show us some tricks. Dude, i would love it. And as long as i have an open invitation, i will be there anytime. All right. Jon. Well, great to meet you and hope to see a lot more of you on americas got talent. Hey, thank you. Love you guys.
