Investigators have a search warrant to focus on a property in Monroe County. Holly grims mother tells us she has been told by investigators that this does have to do with her daughters disappears. Satellite images show just how big the storm has become. You can see it moving slowly as it nears the islands. Flash flooding has already begun in parts of haiti. Jamaica and cuba are facing similar conditions and many people in the area are now making a run as the hurricane inches closer. The u. S. Has begun making preparations to evacuate people from the naval base in guantanamo bay. The storm has already skilled two people. Nbc 10 first alert meteorologist Sheena Parveen is tracking Hurricane Matthew. Sheena, what are we up against here and how might it affect us . Were still pretty far down the road. Our local weather would be more of a time frame of this upcoming weekend. Its too far out to tell exactly where its going to head at that particular point in time. Right now were looking down in the caribbean. Matthew a very wellorganized category 4 hurricane. Its approaching jamaica, theres hispaniola, theres cuba, then it heads towards the bahamas. The red shaded areas are warnings for these parts of the caribbean. Theyre expecting high winds. Sustained winds 140 miles an hour sustained winds, thats a category four hurricane. Its moving to the north at six miles per hour, on average a relatively slow movement. This storm has in fact slowed down quite a bit. The timing of it has been pushed back from what we saw last week. Wednesday, 8 00 a. M. , its just getting into the bahamas and its a pretty sure bet it will continue on a northerly track. It could be a category 3 hurricane by that time, either way still a major hurricane. Well be watching for it potentially along the southeastern coast of the united states. You notice that cone as we go farther out in time, its just barely skimming the east coast of florida, also barely skimming now the carolinas. Well have to watch this very closely. A welcome sight for septa riders today, the Transit Agency resumed a normal schedule today. For three months a third of the rail cars were sidelined because of a suspension problem. Todays schedule change means about 200 more train trips a day across septas 13 Regional Rail lines. More than a hundred train cars were taken off the track at the start of the summer for repairs. There were cracks in the beams that distribute the weight of the cars to their axles. First it was a little slow. The philadelphia archdiocese sent a message to parents today saying, while it takes the threat seriously, classes will continue as scheduled and told parents neither they for their children should respond to the social media posts. But neighborhoods in the northeast, northwest, and higher crime west and southwest philadelphia, have far fewer, and sometimes none at all. By thursday afternoon, were also going to be looking way to the south, a very slow moving hurricane could be right over the bahamas. Could be a major hurricane still. Well be watching for any interaction with land. Right now, Hurricane Matthew is just to the south of jamaica. Theres jamaica, then we have hispaniola here. Cuba will be next. Then the bahamas as it travels to the north, max winds 140 miles per hour, moving fairly slowly north at seven miles per hour. The updated track from the National Hurricane center, normally it comes out at 5 00. This is the most updated. By thursday afternoon, could be category 3 hurricane over the bahamas. The track has in fact shifted just a little bit farther to the west. Well be watching it by this weekend. Could be moving on to maybe south or north carolina. Again, this is very far out in time. So this could very well be changing as we get closer, as many tropical systems do. Looked at spthe spaghetti modela combination of the many computer models that we use. That spread for those computer models is about an 800 dmile spread from west to east. Well be watching it closely to see if another weather system hopefully pushes it out to sea.
