To our weather now. A live look right there at Citizens Bank park where the phils will play tonight. The ground crew had its hands full thanks to the dry conditions the last few days. Krystal klei has more. Krystal, what could this mean for everybodys lawns and gardens . Reporter guys, heres a question for everyone at home. Does your lawn at home look like ours . It was all the way back to august 21st, but if you look ahead to our long term forecast, the tenday not looking very wet either, which isnt exactly good news for your lawn. This summer, weve seen high heat and below average rainfall. For this homeowner, that means extra time spent on the yard. Thats a mess. Youve got to keep watering, watering, watering. Reporter weve seen nearly 10 inches less rain this year than last year this time in philadelphia. Were running around four inches below average for annual total. In trenton, were seven inches below. Its the worst summer ive ever seen. Very little rain. Reporter much of new jersey as well as the philadelphia area and the Lehigh Valley have officially been categorized as abnormally dry by the United States drought monitor. Thats one step below moderate drought. The first thing is not to panic, because most of your grass in this area is bluegrass, and it goes dormant above 90 degrees. 60 will come back automatically, then you can do your repairs and spend a lot less money. Reporter but he says there are a few things you can do if youre worried about your lawn. If its small enough, water now. But if they have a large area, i would hold off until you get just one good rain. Then you can overseed it. Probably the most bang for your dollar would be lime. Reporter and he tells me that if you do water your lawn, make sure to do it before 10 00 a. M. Watering at night could potentially lead to fungus problems. He says if you want to aerate your yard, thats something you can do but you need to wait until another rain. Doing it with dry soil could just lead to bigger issues, glenn. Thanks, krystal. My lawn is plenty brown. The landscaper said, dont even bother watering it, youre just wasting water. It will hibernate until next spring, then you can start all over again. Here is part of the problem, as krystal was mentioning. We had rain on the 1st. But every one of these days in orange are dry until sunday, the only day in our tenday forecast where im predicting any kind of significant rain. Even there theres just a chance that its going to be significant enough to make an impact, not just a few showers. Were at 83 degrees in philadelphia with completely clear skies. You certainly cant get any rain out of that. And weve got pretty much clear skies everywhere across the area. Look at that sky at the Lehigh Valley, that is just beautiful. In philadelphia last week, we were seeing temperatures, 97, 98 degrees, feelslike temperatures 107, 108. Now look at this. 87 the warm spot at graduate hospital, also in center city, with very low humidity. But only 81 in andorra and bustleton and park wood. With great sunshine, that is a real comfortable air mass on top of us. No clouds nearby, you have to go to minneapolis to find the closest coming in our direction. Its also of course much more comfortable than its been in a while. And were going to heat up, but just for one day. So weve got philadelphia going up to 93, then going straight back down. Dover going up to 91, going back down into the 70s at the end of the week. Allentown going up to 91, back down into the 70s. Wildwood up to 88, again, back down into the 70s. So we are looking for some rain. The only real chance that we even have this week is coming with a cold front, coming down from the northwest. Not on tuesday, not during the day on wednesday. It would come wednesday night from this front. And this particular computer model shrinks everything, everything weakens by the time it gets here. Many parts of our area if not the whole area might be left without any kind of rain. Here is the neighborhood forecast for tomorrow, up to 87 in fairmount. Look at these low temperatures, langhorne 58 degrees tomorrow morning, redding 55, easton 52. That is pretty cool, especially compared to last week. And voorhees at 62. But robbinsville at 55. Egg harbor city inland, 55. Right at the beaches of longport, 65 degrees. Thats why i have all these neighborhoods to show you these differences. Your neighborhood forecast at the bottom of your screen any time you would like to look at it. Over the next three days, again, that big jump in the temperature. But its still not going to be that humid on wednesday, not like last weeks humidity. And then on thursday, everybody cools down. But you can see that over the next three days, pretty much on the dry side. Wednesday night the only chance of getting any kind of showers. And the tenday forecast shows the comfortable weather going through friday. Saturday, warms up a little bit. When you see low temperatures, like 58 degrees, 62, you know that its relatively comfortable. And then the first decent chance of any kind of rain doesnt come until sunday, and then next week well have some more chances by the middle of the week. All right, glenn, see you soon.
