Thats going to slide into new jersey and delaware. Well talk more about this and what you can expect for the rest of the evening coming up. You can see the change from where the rain has already moved through. Tracking the temperature 74 in allentown and philadelphia and 87 degrees, feelslike temperatures. What it feels like based on the fact that we have the high humidity. Check out dover, 107 is what it feels like. While temperatures will dip a tad, were talking a trend that brings back the heat so today weve officially hit a high of 95 degrees. Thats the fifth day in a row that weve seen temperatures in the 90s. Going to have a little break here and drop things down your tuesday and wednesday into the upper 80s and then we bring back the 90s thursday and friday and looks like we could potentially be feeling 100 or near 100 on saturday and sheena will have more on that coming up. Lets get back to the coverage of our Republican National convention in cleveland. This is as youre about to see here a live look where its day one and donald trump is showing the world what to expect the unexpected. Musical performances that are continuing throughout the day. Jim rosenfield is anchoring the coverage live in cleveland and joins us now with all of todays coverage. Reporter right now i want to share with you why im talking loudly over music. Were sort inform between the official business of the convention and kind of entertains the delegates as they wait for speaker after speaker. They have been going over some rules issues and adopting things from commit. A little bit of drama. Well get into that about the antitrump effort. Meantime, what about the new polls that are out, a new Monmouth University poll showing this race is tightening up even further with donald trump closing in on hillary clinton. It finds that clinton now holds just a threepoint lead over her republican rival. Down from a sixpoint lead in the same poll last month. Now this, convention right here in cleveland, of course, gives donald trump high profile event to try to tighten that lead furthermore. The convention all getting under way officially at 1 00 this afternoon. A few hours ago and everyone is wondering just whats in store here . Welcome to the 2016 Republican National convention. Reporter and with that the Republican National Convention Officially kicked off this afternoon. Usually a week long celebration of the presumptive nominee. Whoever receives those 1,237 votes will be our nominee, and we will be backing that person. Reporter but this year theres a divide. Outside the quicken loans arena, protesters are already making their voices heard. Inside the arena antitrump delegates are expected to try one last time to get rid of trump by forcing a roll call vote. Once thats over, todays theme will be make america safe again. Very excited. Very interested in what everybody has to say, especially whats been going hon in this country alone with all the gun violence. Reporter the speakers focusing on terror, immigration and benghazi, and trump himself expectsed to make a cameo sometime today. Most nominees arent seen until thursday. And right now the focus is on perhaps the mundane but really not. It is very important as far as the antitrump forces are concerned the rules here and what takes place down here on the floor. Theres been a lot of action behind the scenes. Will it spill out on to the Convention Floor . For that i want to bring in our nbc 10 colleague who has been covering the delegates and whats going on behind the scenes with the rules. Lauren . Reporter yeah, jim. Weve been watching the Convention Floor and the delegates known as unbound today but they were really dealt another blow by the rules committee in this final effort to derail a trump nomination. This convention will come to order. Reporter while the rnc opened with formality on the Convention Floor, behind the scenes here a frantic lastminute effort to change the way things work here. Were trying to find the convention secretary. I mean, we have the signatures from 11 states to force a roll call vote. She has suddenly disappeared and dont know where she is. Reporter the idea, change the rules, let the delegates vote the way they want, delegates who come in here bound to support a candidate because of the primary vote. Do you think theres any way that you can stop donald trump from being nominated . Theres always a chance, but its important to know that this isnt all about donald trump. Whats happened with the Republican Party and the draconian attempt to crush the delegates cant stand. Reporter middletons dealt got sat on the rules committee and spoke to them just after they took the vote. My view is as a lawyer and sports fans you dont change the rules in the middle of the game and while donald trump wasnt my first pick, not my last choice, but he was the choice of more than anybody else by an overwhelming number. Reporter delegates themselves have been getting lobbied to vote down the rules. Montgomery countys tom ellis. A lot of letters, a lot of phone calls. Reporter but hes not convinced. Originally when i ran i thought it would be fun to have a convention thats brokered, but now were down to two candidates. We have hillary on the democratic side and weve got donald on the republican side so its time to move on and have that battle. Reporter and you may remember that pennsylvania has sort of an unusual situation. Most of the delegates from pennsylvania actually come in being able to vote for whoever they want but that is not the case in new jersey and delaware, so this really would have affected them. Just yesterday governor kasich said as much as well. In a News Conference that wrapped up just a few minutes ago authorities described what happened as an assassination. Nbc 10 has this report live from studio. Denise, what have you learned . Reporter keith, the gunman oyvind as gavin long was looking for locations to specifically target Law Enforcement. He was armed with two rifles and a handgun. They say the most compelling evidence is a video that shows the former marine calculated in his actions. They say he snuck up behind Police Officers and shot them at close range. They believe long would have headed to Police Headquarters not far away to take more lives had a w swath s. W. A. T. Officer shot and killed him first. One of the fallen officers was quoted this afternoon in making a plea for peace. Please dont let hate affect your heart this. City must and will get better. Reporter a senior Law Enforcement official tells nbc news longs interest in the Sovereign Citizen Movement does not appear have played a significant role in this attack. Right now investigators are looking into his Online Activity to better understand his motive. 100 of revolutions, of victims fighting their oppressors, have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed. Reporter the gunman posted this video on youtube back on july 8th, and while he talks about police, its not clear if the post is related to this weekends attack. The victims of the attack have been identified as officer Matthew Gerald who is on the left,er Montrell Jackson who you see on the right and sheriffs deputy brad galofolla pictured in the middle. Three other members of Law Enforcement were hurt and the were told one deputy is still fighting for his life. We will continue to bring you updates as we get them. Keith . Right now, as can you imagine. Police officers are out doing their jobs under a whole lot of pressure. Police chiefs say they have never seen a climate like this before with no margin for error and officers realizing ones that want to talk to them. A look now at what police are going through. They got a hard jab. Reporter Jameel Richardson says its awful what happened in baton rouge and sees tensions reaching a boiling point, even in his own family in philadelphia there are both concerns about unfair policing and fears for a relative who is an officer. He tells me every day, its tough. Reporter upper darby superintendent Mike Chitwood has worked in policing for 52 years, and he says hes never seen assaults on police like this before. They are true terrorists. There is no call for that. Theres no rhyme or reason. Reporter and hes also seeing more support and so are other departments. In camden county, gloucester officer held coffee with the cops and an outreach program. We have to build bridges and bonds and take other peoples concerns into consideration. New at 4 00, Authorities Say a love triangle is likely to blame for the executionstyle shooting of a man last week. Its the first murder in the jamison section in three decades. Police are receiving for 33yearold Jeffrey Gould of bensalem. Authorities have charged him in the murder of Edward Dubinsky who was found shot to death on the front porch of his home thursday morning. Police say an investigation into the murder revealed the two men had been involved with the same woman but its not clear exactly what let to that shooting. Nothing specific or dramatic that were aware of. I think theres a certain action of communication and friction back and forth and no explosive event that were aware of. Police are also looking for the woman in this love triangle identified as zannatul naim. She has not been charged. Police believe gould is now in north carolina. Police in Delaware County are asking for your help in tracking down the man seen in this surveillance video. Hes wanted for firing nearly 30 rounds at a man on kent road in upper derby. The man was hit nine times and is in extremely critical condition. He should be considered arm and extremely dangerous. If you know who he is, call upper darby police. No charges will be fired against eagles wide receiver Nelson Aguilar following an assault at a strip class. The District Attorney said there were insufficient evidence to warrant such charges. Police received he was involved in an assault at the cheerleaders Gentlemans Club in south philadelphia. Time is running out for workers at trump taj mahal to agree to a new contract. Septa has been dealing with crowding and delays since dozens of trains had to be pulled from service because of defective steel beams. A major step forward in a plan to compete Community Schools in fifrl yafrmt the mayor announced the first nine schools selected to participate. They are in north, northwest, south and southwest philadelphia. Each will have a fulltime coordinator who will work with parents, students, teachers and neighbors to identify their needs to include job training and expand ed neighborhood centers. Its a place where kids go and then they leave, but now it can be so much more. We can have evening programs where parents can come in and do resume wright. We can have maybe family dinners. Things like that. Hover the next five years the city will invest nearly 40 million to transform 20 Public Schools into community cools. Overseas in the aftermath of a failed military coup in that country that man is blaming the uprising on a pennsylvania cleric living in exile. Turkeys president erdogan alleged that cleric Fethullah Gulen plotted the military coup is demanding the United States extradite him back to turk but he denies any involvement and has been living in Monroe County for years sand a longtime critic of the turkish government. The cleric believes these accusations are police kay motivated. Hes a man of peace and defended peace against terrorist groups like isis and condemned violence of all times throughout his life. For him to be associated with a coup is simply insulting. He said i have nothing to do with this. I categorically deny it. Sources close to gulen say at this point no formal extradition request has been made but they will fully cooperate with the u. S. Government if that happens. This is in upper darby, the rain coming down in sheets and we do have a couple of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings across the area right now. One through the philadelphia area and one in Newcastle County so the line of storm that extends down into washington. We have a ground stop still at philly international. Now, these storms are not moving too fast so i would not be surprise federal we had some localized brief street flooding, even creek flooding. We cant rule that out. Severe thunderstorm warning through the philadelphia area that extends into some of our new jersey area. Some parts of camden and gloucester county. Heavy rain over 959 in south fill and thats going to continue to move into south philly. Waterford at 4 55. Because this storm is so severe. Heavy rain and a lot of lightning near 60 Miles Per Hour and damaging wind and potentially hail across the area. The other Severe Thunderstorm Warning that just got issued is through parts of newcastle and salem county in south jersey where a thunderstorm warning will go until 5 00 p. M. And look at all the lightning right around Newcastle County near newark and wilmington. This one is moving mostly to the southeast. Again, not a fast mover, right around 20 to 30 mean, i so we could be talking about some localized flooding in parts of Newcastle County. Glassboro 4 43 and williamstown 4 57 and deerfield 5 14 and pitsgrove right around 5 17. I mentioned that lightning. Take a look at the number of strikes. Okay 300 lightning strikes in this small area of Newcastle County alone in the past 15 minutes. This is one strong thunderstorm so, again, if youre in the path of any of these storms you want to get indoors and stay indoors until these storms pass but they are fairly slow movers and some localized flooding. So well go up the i95 corridor and chester seeing the very heavy rain as well as west deptford and cherry hill and pal my raft. Getting out of the heavy rain and it will continue to move into new jersey. Floren seeing some heavy rain also and that extends into new jersey into parts of trenton. Next tends up into new york. This is a long line of severe storms and with any severe storms like i mentioned, those are damaging winds and lightning, heavy rain and the potential for hail. We have the severe thunderstorm watch until 8 00 tonight so, again, were going to keep our eye out until 8 00 with the potential for any strong to severe storms, so, again, if neuronew jersey and delaware, youre not seeing much but that line is heading your way and as we go through tonight keep an eye out and heres future weather. As we go through the next few hours that line moves into delaware and new jersey and well still have storms around but it will be just be south and east of philadelphia. At that point we could have more pop up north and west and by 8 30 a lot will move out and the Severe Threat will be over and drying up as we go overnight tonight. Take a look at temperatures of raincooled air in philadelphia. 77 degrees and allentown 75 and south jersey and delaware though still dealing with temperatures in the 90s. Not only is it hot outside, were also seeing severe thunderstorms move into the area. Lets get a check of our neighborhood forecast with meteorologist sheena par convenient. Sheena, where are the storms right now . Severe storms moved through philadelphia and now they are making their way into new jersey. They are not fast movers so we have flood advisories up from northern delaware and through philadelphia and parts of new jersey counties. This has moved through south phillie and now its mostly in new jersey, right across the river from philadelphia. Severe thunderstorm warning until 4 30, so really just the next couple of minutes. Either way its still strong, still going to be providing 60mileanhour winds. Heavy wind, lightning and the potential for small hail. Medford, for example, expect it by 4 39 and williamstown 4 542and winslow 5 10 and hamilton by 5 19 and now we go had a little further south into Newcastle County and salem county. A lot of lightning here through Newcastle County. This one is traveling cfl still not very fast around 20 miles an hour and expect some flooding. Clayton expects it by 5 00 and pitsgrove by 520 and the lightning in this, seen an increase in lightning now. About 360 lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes and thats in Newcastle County alone. Newark up to wilmington youre about to see the heaviest of this in a minute right across 95 and the major interstates here so this Severe Thunderstorm Warning will continue into parts of Newcastle County and also salem county and this storm is also moving southeast and there you see the heavy rain and it will continue to move into new jersey across the expressway and eventually to the shore later on this evening. Unbound delegate wanted a roll call vote here on the floor and at the moment of that decision the leadership revealed that three states that had been on board to hold that roll call vote had backed out suddenly and so there would be no roll call vote. This would be an attempt to allow delegates under the rules to not be bound to support the presumptive nominee. When that happened there were cheers and chants on both sides, and now lauren mayk is telling me from down on the floor that she is seeing texts from delegates unbound, that movement to perhaps stage a walkout in protest. We havent seen that happen yet. Well keep an eye on it. Now, there are many highprofile republicans who are not here to see this all unfolding and perhaps this is part of the reason why. I want to take a look at a graphic thats going to show you some of the big names that are not here at the rnc. Ohios own governor john kasich, the governor of the state hosting this convention. He is not setting foot here inside the q. Also jeb bush who is also an opponent of donald trump. Bush held a lot of personal feelings about the personal attacks he took from trump during the primary season and jebs bother george w. Bush is also not at this convention and lets take a look at some of pennsylvanias republicans who are not here as well. Senator pat toomey, congressman Ryan Kastella and patrick me man and ryan fitzpatrick. All no shows so we want to know how big of a deal for so many lawmakers to sit this out. Would i say within about 30 minutes well see the strong storms moving in so that Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the rest of delaware goes until 5 15. Middletown, expect it at 4 53 and smyrna by 5 05 and dover 5 22. So thats another round of strong storms with potentially damaging winds, heavy rain, localrized rain and creek flooding and that even extends up to the philadelphia area and mostly now into our new jersey neighborhoods. Waterford is about to see heavy rain, tabernacle moving across the ac expressway. This is some heavy rain that has been leading to the potential for localized flooding, again, flooded roadways and also some flooded creeks, so, again, this is heavy rain across the area. It already moved through south philly but now were seeing some of the heaviest in parts of new jersey so thats one area that were watching right now and a lot of this heavy rain is going to continue moving through new jersey and then heading to the shore. So once the shore sees it, that would be i would say in the next couple of hours, then will move away and well start to clear out and dry out and temperatures start to heat back up again as we go into the rest of this week. Until that though well have a period where the humidity drops, but in the meantime were watching all this heavy rain move Phyllis Theroux tabernacle and, again this, rain not moving quickly. They told me they would send a factory representative to look tat. Reporter hill says that was back in november and no one ever showed. So he kept calling. Its completely peeled off. Reporter days after we reached out to aaron eats stores regional manager went to hills house in person to check out the problem and a few days after that this brand new furniture set was delivered to his home free of charge.
