A huntsville, alabama woman was ready to board her flight back home from brussels, but she was stopped in her tracks by those deadly explosions. Now to insight about the attacks. Michael boyle is an assistant professor at Lasalle University and expert in the study of terrorism and political violence. Michael, thank you for being with us. Late this afternoon we learned that belgian officials knew that a terror attack was possible, they were bracing for it. Could they have done something to stop it . We know this was a soft target like many others including paris. They knew there was an attack but didnt have details. Its clear that the Security Services in brussels had been overwhelmed for some time. There were reports saying that the number of people they were monitoring was so large it was impossible to stop every attack. Even if you do your best there is no way you can stop every attack. Recently the government in belgium approved expanding but the problem they have is they have a lot of people in the society who are essentially sympathetic to isis or kaek and they cannot monitor them all. You can never stop ever terrorist attack. Weve seen security beefed up across the United States including at the Philadelphia Airport here, train stations, 30th street station. What does this mean for us here at home . In the United States, theres always a risk of terrorism. Whether you are in europe, United States, there is always a risk. I would argue that the situation in europe is in many ways worse than the United States. The reason that is is that there are a lot of people in european societies who fought in the syrian iraq and now returned to europe and to places like brussels and are trained and capable of launching those attacks. By all accounts the number of americans that fought and returned to the United States and launched these attacks like we saw in brussels and the american airport are much smaller. So although there is always a risk of terrorism the risk in europe and in places like paris and brussels is much greater than in philadelphia and elsewhere. Michael boyle from Lasalle University, thank you for joining us. We know youll get more information in the coming days and hours, hopefully not a followup attack. Thank you. That sunshine was a little deceptive. Parts of the area started with temperatures below freezing, these people needed jackets for a walk along the boardwalk. Of course, were in the 50s in most places this afternoon and even warmer weather is coming. But i do want to warn you that right along the boardwalk, in fact, not nearly as warp as some of these temperatures were about to show you because of the cooler ocean. Were got a big warmup across much of the rest of the area. Over the next couple days. Were tracking showers by the end of the week and pretty good easter forecast. Especially warm one Easter Sunday. The wind direction is changed. The flag blowing in the opposite direction from yesterday. So warmer air is starting to come in. 57 degrees, the wind west at 18, gusting to 28 miles an hour. That will be diminishing somewhat as the night goes on. Pretty cold on sunday and then the snow sunday night. Yesterday 51, today 57. And look at the jump. 70 degrees tomorrow, 73 on thursday. Right now were 58 in northeast philly, 57 in wilmington. 56 in trenton and wrightstown and reading and coatesville, 55 in oxford, pottstown, quakertown, 53 in doylestown. Its milder than it was yesterday but right at the beach, beach haven, 48 degrees. More of a southwest wind. The temperatures generally 5 to 10 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. Mount pocono, 14 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. You can see the dry air across the region, but a few clouds back to the west. And were going to be seeing a little bit of that overnight tonight. But were mainly going to be seeing this mild air build up over the next couple of days. It is going to last through the weekend but not for the rest of the month. There will be colder air returning. And as we start april possibly. Partly cloudy, not as cold, 47 for the low in philadelphia, 39 north and west during the day tomorrow. We expect a lot of sunshine and a lot warmer weather. Not going to need the coats tomorrow. Highs near 70 degrees. And youre not going to need the coats on thursday either. The umbrellas maybe thursday night, and friday morning. And then we cool off a little bit on saturday. But thats still above average. And then Easter Sunday is warm, the showers should hold off until sunday night or monday. Thanks.
