Coming up next on nbc 10 news today, battling isis, well talk to meet the press Moderator Chuck Todd aboutc wh the next step is to destroy the terrorist group in iraq. In the effort to stop isis, president obama and Congress Hope to defeat the militants with a plan to train and arm Syrian Rebels for warfare. Its a top issue on this mornings edition of meet the press. Joining us now for a preview is Moderator Chuck Todd. Good morning, chuck. Good morning, rosemary. Chuck, what does the u. S. Need to do to degrade and destroy isis as we heard the president say . And are the president and his top general on the same page . That seems to be the debate of the week. And the debate going forward. You hear the president essentially having a very public debate with his top military adviser, martin dempsey, about the issue of american combat troops and whether theyre ever goingc to be a potential tool that the president decides to utilize in this fight against isis. The president has said multiple times that that is not the case and youll hear this fascinating back and forth. So the question that i have, for instance, to samantha power, the u. S. Ambassador to the u. N. Is, if its not american combat troops, whos going to provide the combat troops . There is universal agreement between the president and his military leaders that you have to have combat troops in syria and of course in iraq. But will other countries commit if the United States does not . And that seems to be, i think, part of this fundamental divide between the civilian and military leadership of the country. Chuck, obviously the focus has been on whats happening in iraq and syria but im sure americans want to know whats the likelihood of isis planning an attack on the u. S. Homeland and whats the government going to prepare . Well, its interesting. The government on one hand is trying to keep the public calm and say isis is not capable of doing a big attack on the United States a la 9 11, that the inten jens communi Intelligence Community can disrupt those communications. Maybe it goes across the border from turkey and into syria and fights with isis and then travels back to the United States, travels back to london and does something on their own. If theyre a lone wolf, not talking to people, if its not a planned plot, its harder to disrupt. Chuck todd, moderator of meet the press. Thank you, chuck. You got it. Of course you can watch chuck todd a little bit later this morning at 10 30 on meet the press. Former joint chiefs chairman admiral Michael Mullen will be one of his guests.
