They have a tip that the gunfire came from a man targeting a white sedan driving by the block. She starts firing about 10, 11 shots were fired at this vehicle and one of those bullets hit the young lady down the street. Its just sad. I had just seen her. Embattled football star ray rice is planning to appeal his indefinite suspension from the nfl. The league handed out that punishment last week after a new video surfaced of rice knocking out his then fiance inside an elevator in february. He originally got a twogame suspension. Meantime, new jersey lawmakers are tackling the Domestic Violence issue. Today the state assembly passed a series of bills designed to protect victims of abuse. Nbc 10s south Jersey Bureau reporter cydney long is live in trenton. Sydney, these bills were already on the table before the ray rice incident became public. Denise and renee, that is correct. Lawmakers tell me this has been a conversation, a dialogue theyve been having for several months here in trenton. It just so happens the publics attention has been captured simply because of the ray rice incident. They say this is not isolated to a ray rice issue. This is anyish that affects hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans every single day. Domestic violence as i said is extremely complicated. It knows no age. It knows no economic station in life. It can happen to anyone. By nums vote, new jerseys General Assembly passed a series of bills aimed at protectioning Domestic Violence victims. It comes one week after new video surfaced of the moments before ray rice dragged his unconscious fiance out of an Atlantic City casino. It is something assemblywoman gabrielle mascarac knows all t well. My mother is a survivor of Domestic Violence. I stayed in womens shelters as say kid. I know what it looks like. Its a level of intimidation. Reporter another that could become law would allow police to check a restraining order da database statewide. The package would also allow a Domestic Violence victim to use a selfdefense argument in court if they were forced, rather, to defend themselves when a restraining order is in place. Right now, the manhunt continues for the gunman or gunmen who ambushed two Pennsylvania State troopers killing one of them and wounding the other. The troopers were attacked during a shift change friday night in pike county in northeast pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held in scranton for the trooper who died in the ambush. Corpor Corporal Bryon Dixon. He transferred to pike county back in june. Nbc 10s doug shimell talked to some of those who walked with Corporal Dixon locally. Some of his philadelphia colleagues will play a role in his funeral . Exactly. Many have volunteered because they feel like they need to do something to pay tribute to their friend. It hit us personally because bryon was stationed here. He came to the belmont barracks when trooper bryon dixon was promoted to corporal july 2013. He had a great passion for traffic enforcement, particularly in the dui area. That enthusiasm that he had was contagious amongst the members here in troop k. Corporal dixon won several awards from pennsylvanias dui association and leadership became obvious. The impact that he had on the younger troopers, he took a great interest in their report writing, their skills, their safety. 402. When they heard he had been ambushed and killed outside the Blooming Grove barracksc in pi county three months after being transferred there, shock. My concern is for the guys that work here now and how theyre dealing with it. And making sure we have all the Resources Available to them. Another Atlantic City casino will close its doors in a matter of hours now. Tomorrow morning, trump plaza will become the latest victim of the casino crisis. Casino operations are scheduled to end just before 6 00. Owners file for bankruptcy four times, including last tuesday. The closure will leave about 1,000 workers without a job. The trump plaza is the father Atlantic City casino to shut down this year. The Atlantic Club was the first to close in january, showboat shut its doors august 31st, two days later, revel closed and the trump taj mahal could be number five. That casino sent notices to workers last week warning it could shut down come november. The nations Oldest Nuclear power plan has been taken offline for a planned refueling outage. It was shut down today. During the outage, crews will perform Maintenance Work and replace onethird of the reactors fuel. Plant officials did not say how long it will take to complete the work. Witnesses tell our crew children were outside at the time of the shooting. They ran inside when the shots were fired. No one was hurt. The issue is given a lot of scrutiny after Adrian Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges. He acknowledged he used a wooden switch to spank his 4yearold son. A doctor believes no one should ever spank their child but she knows many, many parents, like this one, believe its necessary. If it comes to it, yeah, most definitely, pow, right in the butt. He admitted hes old school when it comes to disciplining his children. He says this is the way he was raised. To me, if i have a belt, i use a belt. If i grab a switch, i grab a switch and hit him. Reporter but he believes the Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson crossed the line. This picture from Houston Police shows welts and bruises as a result of the switch peterson used to discipline his 4yearold son. A kid doesnt need to be hit four or five times for them to get the point. Children who are hit for discipline are up to nine times more likely to be victims of physical abuse because that corporal punishment, that hitting just went one step too far. Reporter dr. The fall Monarch Butterfly migration has begun bringing the colorful creatures through cape may county. But there are fewer butterflies than in past years. Some studies estimate that 90 of the population has vanished over the past 20 years. Now a new jersey legislator is introducing several bills aimed at helping monarchs survive. Today, something from the fall line thats making waves. It comes from a local company thats no stranger to controversy. A philadelphiabased Clothing Company makes light of a school massacre. The popular sweatshirt theyre selling out of and why they decided to put it in stores. Playboy says the university of pennsylvania is tops when it comes to one popular category among students. Theyre getting a bit hot under the collar over it. Some say the sweatshirt is a graphic reminder of a deadly campus shooting decades ago. That shooting on the campus of Kent State University where four unarmed students were shot and killed by National Guardsmen during an antiwar protest. Todays nbc 10s tim furlong is getting reaction to the controversy. And the sweatshirt is made by Urban Outfitters. Reporter theyve done this a number of times before. This seems to be their pattern, put something controversial out veryone, including the media talking about it and based on the numbers here, their strategy seems to work even if they do seem to leave a bunch of people very offended. Many of you remember what happened at Kent State University in 1970. You might at least remember the song it inspired four dead in ohio reporter while many younger people, college aged people dont know much about that day in ohio. I dont know anything. I saw a picture this morning and went, really, of allc schools . Reporter in a sweet, Urban Outfitters apologizes for the sweatshirt they say is from their sun faded vintage collection. The red spots are just discolorations and is not supposed to look like blood. I i this this is a strategy. Reporter carolyn is a Public Relations professor at the university of delaware. They put out the controversial gun holiday ornament and the ghettoopoly game a few years back. She believes this Company Knows exactly what theyre doing. Theyre trying to do something thats provocative and transgressive. They push it. Even if goes badly, it fades away pretty quickly but they have brand recognition. Reporter Kent University said they are upset Urban Outfitters would try to profit off this painful chapter in their history. Some of the people who lost loved ones are out there, as well as some of the survivors. If this was a Marketing Strategy by Urban Outfitters, they certainly got people talking. As we told you first at 4 00, shots were fired outside the kip Charter School along lehigh avenue. Police tell nbc 10 two suspects were firing at each other. No one was hit but kids were on the play ground at the time. Parents got the news from their children. They called, said they had a shooting outside the school, come get them. What do you think . Its out of control. Children hit the ground when they heard the gunfire and then took shelter in the school building. A victim of violence, thats what Philadelphia Police are calling this pregnant woman who was shot and killed yesterday. Doctors delivered her baby just after the shooting but the infant died early this morning. Good evening, im keith jones. Im jacqueline london. Nbc 10 rose marmary connors is at Police Headquarters where police announced a 40,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. I spoke to the homicide captain a few moments ago. He tells me at this point they have little to go on still. Thats why they are hoping that that reward money will encourage somebody to come forward. At this point all is pretty quiet in the neighborhood. Few people out and about. Yesterday morning there were plenty of people outside enjoying the weather and police say somebody knows something. Im so close to it. A couple weeks ago, another friend of mine got killed where i used to live. Where is it safe at around here
