Lawmakers tell me this has been a conversation, a dialogue theyve been having for several months here in trenton. The fall Monarch Butterfly migration has begun bringing the colorful creatures through cape may county. But there are fewer butterflies than in past years. Some studies estimate that 90 of the population has vanished over the past 20 years. Now a new jersey legislator is introducing several bills aimed at helping monarchs survive. Today, something from the fall line thats making waves. It comes from a local company thats no stranger to controversy. A philadelphiabased Clothing Company makes light of a school massacre. The popular sweatshirt theyre selling out of and why they decided to put it in stores. Playboy says the university of pennsylvania is tops when it comes to one popular category among students. Theyre getting a bit hot under the collar over it. Some say the sweatshirt is a graphic reminder of a deadly campus shooting decades ago. That shooting on the campus of Kent State University where four unarmed students were shot and killed by National Guardsmen during an antiwar protest. Todays nbc 10s tim furlong is getting reaction to the controversy. And the sweatshirt is made by Urban Outfitters. Reporter theyve done this a number of times before. This seems to be their pattern, put something controversial out veryone, including the media talking about it and based on the numbers here, their strategy seems to work even if they do seem to leave a bunch of people very offended. Many of you remember what happened at Kent State University in 1970. You might at least remember the song it inspired four dead in ohio reporter while many younger people, college aged people dont know much about that day in ohio. I dont know anything. I saw a picture this morning and went, really, of allc schools . Reporter in a sweet, Urban Outfitters apologizes for the sweatshirt they say is from their sun faded vintage collection. The red spots are just discolorations and is not supposed to look like blood. I i this this is a strategy. Reporter carolyn is a Public Relations professor at the university of delaware. They put out the controversial gun holiday ornament and the ghettoopoly game a few years back. She believes this Company Knows exactly what theyre doing. Theyre trying to do something thats provocative and transgressive. They push it. Even if goes badly, it fades away pretty quickly but they have brand recognition. Reporter Kent University said they are upset Urban Outfitters would try to profit off this painful chapter in their history. Some of the people who lost loved ones are out there, as well as some of the survivors. If this was a Marketing Strategy by Urban Outfitters, they certainly got people talking. As we told you first at 4 00, shots were fired outside the kip Charter School along lehigh avenue. Police tell nbc 10 two suspects were firing at each other. No one was hit but kids were on the play ground at the time. Parents got the news from their children. They called, said they had a shooting outside the school, come get them. What do you think . Its out of control. Children hit the ground when they heard the gunfire and then took shelter in the school building. A victim of violence, thats what Philadelphia Police are calling this pregnant woman who was shot and killed yesterday. Doctors delivered her baby just after the shooting but the infant died early this morning. Good evening, im keith jones. Im jacqueline london. Nbc 10 rose marmary connors is at Police Headquarters where police announced a 40,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. I spoke to the homicide captain a few moments ago. He tells me at this point they have little to go on still. Thats why they are hoping that that reward money will encourage somebody to come forward. At this point all is pretty quiet in the neighborhood. Few people out and about. Yesterday morning there were plenty of people outside enjoying the weather and police say somebody knows something.
