Weather and traffic together going . Long Island Railroad, metro down. 4 and 5 trains, track work at 149th street. To a trains, trackwork, no trains between euclid avenue. Now this should all be cleared away by 5 00a. We have 280, route 80 east, exit 47. Route 3 east at ridge road. Some conditions out there are very dangerous. Outage that left most of the terminal in the latest on this commuter alert. Dre. Good morning. The goal is to get the power fully restored by the morning rush. The doors here at Grand Central terminal are locked while workers are making repairs. It was quite a scene here at Grand Central terminal yesterday morning at around 9 30 when the entire lower level lost power as well as other parts of the building. Trains were diverted to the upper level and more than 100 businesses and vendors also lost power. People were at a loss trying to figure out what exactly was happening. A spokesperson says a 6inch pipe burst causing 18 inches of water to flood a vault that holds Electrical Equipment for the building. I saw black dust over there i said wow. Something is not right. Yeah. Was. This happened on a holiday because we dont have a rush hour of service. Yeah, and that certainly happening yesterday. The fact it was a holiday. Meanwhile, despite the serious power outage yesterday, the mta reported no major delays to metro north trains and they are also saying this morning, though customers should expect 20 or 30 minute delays to get things up and running. They are in the process of getting those repairs and get things close to normal as possible to avoid any frustration and confusion for customers. Roads throughout the tristate area are slippery from all the Eyewitness News reporter is in territown with more for us. Reporter we cant urge people enough to be so careful out there on the roadway today. If you are headed back after the long weekend. We should also point out we are hearing about more and more closures and delays. If you think youre headed out, you may want to check on that. I want to show you what drivers are up against. You can see what im standing in. Its a really slushy, slippy mix. You want to be careful. This is route 9. You can see where its mostly clear. It is, however, slick, and there are a number of trouble spots that you want to watch out for. Last nights weather made for icy conditions on the roads in harrison, a driver lost control, a pickup truck traveled up on to a wall. It happened around midnight. The driver made it out and is expected to be okay. The accident happened on grove street near the intersection of west street. While its unclear what caused the wreck, the area was very, and a large tree branch actually came down. It happened at the corner of croten lake road. The branch took a few power lines with it. Power has since been restored. This morning in Westchester County, one man described the roads as quite the obstacle. Definitely fourwheel drive conditions. Icy, slushy, slick, slide downhills. And again, if you are heading out this morning, you do want to take it slow and use caution. Channel 7 Eyewitness News. Mallory, thank you. It was a slow go for rush hour drivers hitting roads in connecticut. An inch of snow, coated black ice making it difficult to stay in your lane. After rush hour, it was stop and go to bumper with tow trucks standing by just in case. And plows did their job trying to keep the streets clear, but through the ice that coated the roads. The roads flooded with a foot of water shutting off Water Service to many residents. Most of the city does have the water back on, but they may be isolated. Crews are working around the clock to repair the break. In brooklyn, a man is dead after getting into a dispute with a female restaurant worker in sunset park. Police say the woman stabbed 41 yearold john john jang several times in front of his restaurant on 8th avenue. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. 4 38. Antibeyonce protesters are gearing up for a rally today outside the nfl headquarters. The protest is inspired by the singers super bowl halftime performance. Good morning, crews have been working all night long. Theres a lot to deal with. The rain continues to fall this morning. This is what is on the road. You can see here just a layer of ice on top of slush. This is what road crews and people out driving this morning if you take a look at the driveway here. This entry way, a slushy, rainy mix, certainly something you would want to use caution if you were driving over. Roadways. Others. You want to be careful out there. Last night, crews were out prepping the roads in white plains. Salt spreaders and plows were put to work. It was a very similar scene in our experience driving here this morning was that the roads are wet. Some spots better than others. Youre going to want to use caution if you do find yourself out there this morning. If you take a look here, this is another good indication of what crews are dealing with. You can actually see on this bush here, its just, again, a layer of ice on top of slush. That. A lot of schools are out for winter break. As well as delays. After president s day power outage left part of strand Central Terminal in the dark. Dre clark is important with more information for riders this morning. Reporter the doors are still locked here at Grand Central terminal. No one going inside and certainly no one coming out. Crews are inside on the lower level trying to get power fully restored before the morning rush kicks in. Now Grand Central terminal lost power yesterday morning at around 9 30. The entire lower level was completely in the dark as well as other parts of the building. Also, more than 100 businesses lost power as now customers initially had no naturally it frightened a lot of them. A 6inch pipe burst and that caused about 18 inches of water to flood a vault that holds a very important Electrical Equipment that provides a fee for the entire building. Again, crews now in the process of trying to get that portion of the lower level, that area cleaned up, which would allow the power to be fully restored. Now because yesterday was the holiday, president s day, there were fewer trains in operation and fewer customers here at Grand Central terminal. So that certainly cut down on the level of chaos here. Also despite the significant power outage, there were no major delays for metro north. However, this morning, the mta warning customers to expect, anticipate about delays for 20 or 30 minutes. Just in case they may experience some problems here. Part of the problem on the lower level is theres very low light because of the power outage. The power restored and make sure those lights are completely back on, they are expecting things to go smooth this morning. All right, dre, thank you. New information this morning on a deadly double shooting. We first told you about. Two men were shot and one killed outside a home on east 56th street. The man who died has been identified as 33yearold gary walker. Police say that he was shot in the head. The other person, a 31yearold man was shot in the back. Hes recovering at the hospital. Its really sad, you know, i hate to know Something Like this happened on my block, you know. I hope it never happens again. Theyve had shootings a few blocks over, but this is the first time im aware it has something right here. In a dispute with as many as three other men prior to the shooting and no arrests have been made. 5 08. Sources say an armed suspect caught on camera waving a gun on the street admitted to being on drugs before he was shot by police. Surveillance video showing him acting erratically. Officers were flagged down by witnesses who said the man was firing the gun and pointing it at drivers. Police say the suspect was shot in the shoulder after he refused to drop his weapon. Hillary clinton will be in new york city to meet with al sharpton. Yesterday, the democratic president ial contender spent the day campaigning in nevada. Clinton is now canvassing state and South Carolina ahead of primaries in both states. Looking for wins after a big loss in new hampshire. Former president bill clinton will host a rally in South Carolina this afternoon. Clintons democratic challenger, bernie sanders, has a busy day ahead as well. And this was the scene in Westchester County early this morning. A car lost control and went up on to a wall in harrison. Around the high tides with the southeast wind, there will be Coastal Flood Advisory with the tides running a foot and a half the rain will affect us next. It will be coming to us around 11 00. 45, maybe 60 Miles Per Hour at the coast. Thats going to be rough. Have all your rain gear and be ready for that. Flooding on roadways right after lunchtime. Weather and traffic together, heather has all kinds of issue with the mass transit. We have been emailing and he just told me Grand Central terminal is completely reopened. Heather, thank you. As heather mentioned, people are being told to expect delays, however, that may change. Because the power problems had left people in the dark on the lower level. Eyewitness News Reporter with some new information, right, that riders will now find out about. Tell us this new information, dre. Good morning, ken. They started unlocking the doors at Grand Central terminal. I had a chance to go inside the terminal and was immediately told that the power has been fully restored. Grand Central Terminal is open and fully operational. That lower level that was completely in the dark yesterday, well the lights are now back on. This is how it looked yesterday morning at around 9 30 when Grand Central terminal lost power. Of the terminal that went completely dark and more than 100 stores that lost power. Some trains had to be diverted because of the loss of power on the lower level and because yesterday was a holiday, president s day, there were fewer trains in operation and fewer customers at the terminal. Now the caws cause of the causing 18 inches of water to flood a vault that houses Electrical Equipment that powers the building. So they had to go ahead and get that water out of there and then repair the equipment. They have been able to do that. Theyve been working all night long and the goal was to try and get everything back up and running before the morning rush and it seemed as if they have done that. Back here live outside Grand Central terminal. They have told customers to anticipate 15 to 20 minute im told right now thats not an issue. However, its a fluid situation that could change. Right now, there are no delays posted on the boards. Grand Central Terminal back in business, so to speak. The power is back on, crews successfully making their deadline and getting everything turned back on before the morning rush kicks into high gear. Quite frankly, theres a lot to deal with out here. Take the sidewalk that im standing on right now. Youre walking along. It feels okay, you think everything is fine and then you find yourself on a really slushy, slick spot. If you look behind me, you can slushy mix of just the rain that has been coming down throughout the morning, almost a little bit of ice on top of slush and then if you look here at route 9. Crews are making their way along here. You think things are fine and then you find yourself in a potentially tight spot. So you want to be careful on the roads. And last nights weather made for icy conditions. In harrison, a driver lost control, a pickup truck traveled up on to a wall. It happened around midnight. The driver is expected to be okay. The accident happened on grove street near the intersection of west street. While its unclear what caused that wreck, the area was very icy at the time. And a large tree branch came down. It happened at the corner of croten lake road. The branch took a few power lines with it. 300 customers lost power for a few hours. Power has since been restored. This morning in westchester roads as quite the obstacle. Definitely fourdrive conditions. Icy, slick, slide downhills. A lot of schools are off this week for a winter break. Developing right now, man is dead after getting into an argument with a woman who works at his sisters restaurant. Police say that the woman stabbed 41yearold, gian yang several times last night in front of the restaurant at 8th avenue. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A woman is now in custody. The man charged with girlfriend is expected back in court in Staten Island today. Michael pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder. Police say he stabbed and killed rebecca cutler, her 19 month old daughter and their 4 month old daughter. A third child, a twoyearold did survive five stab wounds. She remains in critical condition. 5 38. And a long island mother heads to court charged with driving drunk with her young daughters in the car. Barbra is accused of violating landros law. Her suv rear ended a car yesterday morning. Her daughters 8 and 10 years old, along with the childrens tenyearold friend, were in her vehicle. No one was hurt. 5 38. That southerly wind pushing in here is carrying this warm air up the hudson river valley. Morristown reports 1 mile basically improving visibilities as woe g we go through the morning.
