Back to our breaking news out of the bronx, a huge fire destroyed a row of homes overnight. Two firefighters were also hurt. Rob nelson is in the bronx with the latest. Reporter this fire has been burning since 11 45 last night. Its still a very active scene. Firefighters dousing this fire with water from the air. We got here about an hour ago. There were still flames coming out of that building. The fire does appear to be under control. Take a look at this video from earlier. It shows you what a dramatic fire this has been for a few this blaze did shoot up to 6 of alarms and has torn through a block of homes along valentine avenue, up to 10 homes have been impacted. There have also been three minor injuries, two firefighters and one resident. Officials here on the scene are still trying to figure out how many families exactly have been displaced by this fire. There is an mta bus that has been requested here. The red cross is here as well. We did speak to one resident whose home did suffer damage and that person, that man has to figure out exactly what he will do next. It is uncertain, you know, what my situations going to be after this, you know, because you know, i had just came home from work, and then, you know, to have to go through Something Like this is devastating. Firefighters still battling this from the air from that ladder dousing the ten buildings with water. Again, for those of you in this area, some traffic notes to pass along. One buildings loose bricks have caused quite the Ripple Effect of problems for residents and businesses on the Upper East Side. Thats right, unfortunately those problems probably will stretch through the weekend. 1st avenue shut down between 62nd street and 64th street. Again, that is expected to be take a look at this video. The closure will stay in place as crews work to secure the brick facade of a 30story building. This morning dozens of people cant go home. Last night the Buildings Department ordered evacuations at a fivestory building on east 63rd street. That building is right across the street from the building where bricks came crashing down on monday night. Now inspectors are worried another section of that buildings facade could potentially collapse. That could damage the buildings across the street. We had two and a half hours to evacuate our building. Its been crazy. Hope that they fix this as soon as possible. Reporter the traffic problems will continue this weekend. The closure has led to traffic jams and problems for ambulance drivers to get to nearby hospitals. Become out here live workers lot of work left to be done. This closure could potentially monday. Police used this Surveillance Video to track down angel velazquez. The 39yearold is accused of attacking a man last week in williamsburg. Investigators say he punched a man in the head while yelling antiwhite statements. Our time is 4 36. A murky pond a few miles from the San Bernardino massacre is part of an intense search. The couple may have gone to that pond after the shootings last week that left 14 people dead. Investigators will not say what potential evidence theyre looking for. Refugees have arrived in canada. This is video of a military flight landing in toronto late last night. The group was greeted by Prime Minister justin trudeau. Canadas government has agreed to accept 25,000 syrians by the end of february. Hundreds gathered in manhattan to show refugees from the mideast that they are welcome in new york city. This was the scene at Columbus Circle last night. A huge show of support for refugees from syria and iraq. The demonstrators say they reject the wave of antimuslim sentiment that has swept much of the nation. They are calling on the u. S. Government to accept more refugees. Happening today mayor bill de blasio will be checking into a hospital. The Mayors Office says de blasios scheduled to have hernia surgery. The outpatient procedure will sideline him from official business until sunday. The Mayors Office says de blasio developed the hernia recently. There could be some issues with that this morning. We are looking at a few clouds. Four teenagers are in custody accused of punching a man in central park and robbing him at gunpoint. Police believe the teens are also behind two armed robberies in the park on monday night. The youngest of the suspects is just 14 years old. There have been four robberies in the park this week. Police do not believe an armed is linked to the other three. Two men held up a man stealing cash, his cell phone and shoes. The search is on for an armed and dangerous sexual predator in new jersey. Police in hackensack have released this sketch ottoman they are of the man they are looking for. The suspect held a gun to the victim and sexually assaulted her. The family of a woman who was locked in a burger king bathroom when she suffered a deadly seizure is suing the fast food chain. Shirr lie mccarthy was laying on the floor of the bathroom in Jackson Heights pleading for help for at least 10 minutes in september but family claims the restaurant staff initially did nothing, then couldnt find the key. Firefighters broke the door down. Mccarthy was later declared brain dead. If i would have got to the opened the door, she would have been standing here today. I couldnt open the door. Burger king spokesman expressed condolences to the family but refused to comment on the lawsuit. The former Oklahoma Police officer accused of sexually abusing more than a dozen women while on the job has been found guilty. Daniel holtsclaw turned 29 yesterday, the jury convicted him on 18 counts of rape and assault. He sobbed as the verdict was red. Outsided courtroom families of his victims and Community Leaders cheered and prayed. We can move forward. Thank you. 4 56. Today a judge will issue a verdict in the trial against a Nassau CountyPolice Officer accused of attacking a man during a traffic stop. Officer vincent lojudice is accused of howell. It shows the officer punching and kneeing the 20yearold more than a dozen times. The defense Attorney Says the use of force was reasonable because howell reached for his glove box making the officer fear for his life. The charges were later dropped. Ice tea drinkers more than a million bottles of sweet leaf tea are being pulled from store shelves. It has received reports of glass fragments in fact drinks. There have been four cases so far. Whats the latest . Reporter good morning ken, a tough fire here. This is still an incredibly active scene. Firefighters still battling this fire from the air up on that ladder, but you can see buildings. We now know that up to ten this fire. Take a look again at the video from overnight. This fire began about 11 45 last night. A dramatic fire, in fact, that shot up to 6 alarms. It has torn through a block of homes here in the tremont section along valentine avenue. Up to ten homes have been impacted. We also learned there have been three minor injuries, two firefighters and one resident have been hurt in this. Officials here on the scene are still trying to figure out exactly how many families have an mta bus has been requested to help those families find some kind of shelter to get through this. A few minutes ago we did speak to one resident damaged in this and of course he is trying to figure out what to do next. I heard a bunch of breaking glass, people yelling. I looked out my back window, everything was red. I stepped into the hallway. It was full of smoke and there was a firefighter at the bottom of the stairs. He said you need to get out so im out. That guy we just talked to we saw him a few minutes before we went on the air. I think he was able to get back in and get his guitar out of his apartment. He was very happy his dog was unharmed. At this point minor injuries, no fatalities. Extensive damage here. Essentially this row of homes here very close together and ten homes suffered damage. The fire chief is also here at the scene. Hes expected to brief the media in just a few minutes. We hope to have an update in for now reporting live in the tremont section of the bronx, thank you. Seven workers are hurt, two critically after scaffolding beneath them. It happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex in hackensack new jersey. The scaffolding gave way sending a roofing crew 35 feet to the driveway below. A 10yearold boy in a 2nd floor apartment watched the victims fall. I saw a quick shadow falling down, then more pieces of roof fell with the shadow, and then screaming. Residents say the crew was working to repair or replace the roofs on all the buildings in the complex. 5 05. New this morning, images we just received overnight of a sexual predator on the loose in harlem. Take a close look at this Surveillance Video. Police say this man attacked a compactor room on a building on east 131st street. He pushed the woman to the floor, tried to rape her and choked her. She is recovering after suffering cuts and bruises. Now to a developing story this morning, a deadly crash involving a medevac helicopter. The chopper went down near the Central California town of of bakersfield. Investigators say the chopper was heading to bakersfield when it crashed. It was carrying a pilot, nurse, a paramedic, and a patient when it went down in heavy rain and fog. All four were killed. Federal investigators are headed to the scene. Time is 5 06. Divers will head back into the murky waters of a small lake near the scene of the San Bernardino massacre. It appears the killers likely visited that lake on the i did of the shooting that left 14 people dead. Lana zak is live with the latest from washington. Reporter good morning ken. The fbi tells us that they will spend potentially several days combing over that lake in search of clues. Unturned. The fbi is exhaustively searching a small lake where they believe the killers came on the same day that they massacred 14 people in San Bernardino. We are building a time line of everything we know to ensure that we can retrace every step they took. While the fbi would not say what theyre looking for, there are reports that they hope to recover digital device from the lake located just 3 miles from the site of the shooting. Thats where more survivors gathered reentering their workplace everything as it was. Real sad and looking at my coworkers desk and seeing that she had all her stuff like who she was writing. Yesterday the first of 14 funerals was held. She was among the youngest killed in the attacks. Full of life, full of energy and just being who she was, not trying to be someone else. And as the investigation enrique marquez, the friend of the killer who supplied the assault rifles may have lived a double life. His family members tell abc news they didnt know he had converted to islam or that he was married to a woman with ties to the killers family. The fbi continues to question marquez at an undisclosed location. They say that at this point he is not currently under arrest, and he is cooperating with the investigation. Governor dan malloy plans to use an executive order to impose the ban as soon as the state gets access to federal watch lists. If you cant fly because government believes youre a possible threat malloy says then you shouldnt be able to buy guns. I have been in touch with the white house directly on this matter, and we are working gain access to their lists for this purpose. Gun rights activists are calling malloys move unconstitutional, and they are promising a legal challenge. Authorities switzerland are searching for four men believed to be plotting a terror attack. They are suspected of being in the planning stage of an attack in that city. The cia alerted swiss authorities to the four men. The security has been stepped up at places including the u. N. The former police chief of Suffolk County faces a bail hearing today. James burke has pleaded not guilty to federal assault and obstruction charges. Burke is accused of beating a man who broke into his Police Cruiser in 2012 and tried to cover up the alleged assault. Prosecutors say burke should be denied bail because hes a danger to the community. Today marks five years since the first of ten bodies was found on a long island beach. The case being investigated by the fbi. The remains of 24yearold melissa barthelomy discovered december 11, 2010. Five of the victims have been identified. We just received new details on a devastating fire in the bronx, a huge fire has forced dozens of people out of their homes in the middle of the night. Eyewitness News Reporter rob nelson just spoke with crews at the scene and he has more. Good morning, rob. Reporter good morning shirleen. Were here along valentine avenue. We did get an update from fire officials learning the real extent of this fire. 89 people have been displaced 74 adults and 15 children now basically homeless a few weeks you can see still a very active scene here. Theyre still fighting this fire, some hot spots from the air, from the ladder dousing several buildings with water. You can see how dramatic things were when this fire started at 2086 valentine avenue. This scene. We also understand there have been nine injuries, six civilians. Thankfully all of those injuries are minor. The red cross is here at the several families, 89 people in all out of a home early on this friday morning. Not only are these row homes so close together where the fire spreads easily but several of the buildings were wood frames so they burned very quickly and very easily. Thats what allowed this fire to spread. The department of buildings will be on hand to assess whether some of these buildings in fact need to be demolished. It took firefighters about three hours to bring this thing under control after it started about 11 45 last night. We did speak to one gentleman learned that his building was on fire. Take a listen. A neighbor, she woke me up. I heard beening on the door, but i thought it was someone coming to see her. So i was about to get up, and then when i did get to the door, the doors were wide open, they were telling me to get out. Reporter and that gentleman we spoke to said hes lucky to be alive. Nothing else really matters. All in all he was still in good spirits. This was a massive fire. It did shoot up to six alarms. Six of those firefighters did suffer injuries. Thankfully they are minor. For those who live or travel through this area, parts of the street are closed, so be mindful of that as you head out for the morning commute. These row homes went up about 11 45 tonight. Hot spots can be seen here on the scene. Theyre fighting those by the air. The main headline here almost before the holiday including 15 children. If you take a look here, you can see 1st avenue still shut down between 62nd street and 64th street, and thats expected to be the situation all weekend long. The closure will stay in place as crews work to secure the brick facade of a 30story building. This morning dozens of people still cant go home. Department ordered evacuations of a fivestory building on east 63rd street. That building is right across the street from the building where bricks came crashing down on monday. Now inspectors are worried another section of that buildings facade could collapse that could potentially damage the building across the street. We had two and a half hours to evacuate our building. Its been crazy. Hopes that they fix this as soon as possible and go to a regular life. Reporter the traffic problems will continue this weekend. The closure has led to traffic jams and problems for ambulance drivers to get to the hospitals in the area. We have learned overnight that Police Arrested a homeless man for a hate crime attack in brooklyn. Police used this Surveillance Video to track down angel velazquez. The 39yearold is accused of attacking a man last week in williamsburg. Investigators say he punched a man in the head while yelling antiwhite statements. The victim was not badly hurt. 5 37, mayor bill de blasio will be checking into a hospital today. The Mayors Office says de blasios scheduled to have hernia surgery. That outpatient procedure will sideline him from all official business through sunday. The Mayors Office says de blasio developed a hernia just recently. An nypd detective who was killed in the line of duty will be honored in queens. A street will be renamed in Queens Village in memory of detective brian moore. The intersection of 222nd street and 92nd road will be thats in the 105 precinct the 25yearold was shot and killed while he was on duty back in may. Today a judge will issue a verdict in the trial against a Nassau CountyPolice Officer accused of attacking a man during a traffic stop. Officer Vincent Logiudice is accused of beating kyle howell during a traffic stop. Surveillance video shows him punching and kneeing the 20 yearold more than a dozen times. Defense attorneys say the use of force was reasonable because howell reached for his glove box making the officer fearful for his life. The charges against howell were later dropped. Four teenagers are in custody accused of punching a man in central park and robbing him at gunpoint. Police believe the teens also behind two armed robberies in the park on monday night. The youngest suspect is just 14 years old. In the park this week, one of them happened yesterday morning. Police do not believe it is connected to the other three. The search is on for an armed and dangerous sexual predator in new jersey. Police in hackensack have released this sketch of the man they are looking for.
