Back to our breaking news this morning, an offduty nypd officer shoots and kills a man during a craigslist deal that quickly turned deadly. That officer was responding to an ad in queens when two men tried to rob him. Kala rama is live in Springfield Gardens with the latest for us. Reporter lori that offduty Police Officer met here with those two men to look at an older model bmw. When they met here thats when things went sour. Started to talk money, and thats when they started haggling over the price. One man pulled out an air pistol, held up the offduty officer for his wallet. That officer pulled out his gun and shot a man a number of times killing him. That second suspect took off in the car they were trying to sell. The older model white bmw which police are now looking for. A woman who lives across the street from where the deal was being made heard the whole thing going down. I was laying in bed watching tv and i heard a total of five to six gunshots, loud gunshots and i wasnt sure but about maybe 5 minutes later i heard sirens and helicopters and then i knew it was something serious. Reporter right now police are still looking for that second suspect who got away in that older model white bmw. As for that Police Officer, he as protocol after firing his weapon. To find the answer to that question look no higher than the 35th floor of this high rise here on 64th street. You can see a large section of the buildings brick facade about 100 square feet is actually missing. Take a look at this yellow cab. Luckily no one was riding in the backseat. The bricks cover the sidewalk and the street and some people thought they actually heard an explosion. Investigators say what they likely heard was the roar of pavement. Laura smith was dining in a restaurant below the building. Of the restaurant and everything as usual, and all of a sudden we hear this loud sound like a clatter coming down, and this guy sitting in the front of the restaurant right by the window jumps on top of his girlfriend and brings her down to the floor, and so me and my coworker, we freaked out, and this big cloud of just dust goes up in the air, and you cant see anything. The Staten Island expressway eastbound exit 14 to 15 you have construction blocks at least two lanes. Its really not affecting the roadway. The case is being handled by the 72nd precinct. 5 04. Developing in manhattan, hundreds of brickings come crashing down on to a street from a building currently under construction. Reporter thats a good word to describe when were seeing, a mess of traffic if you will. 1st avenue between 62nd and 64th is still closed. So right around 62nd here and 1st avenue traffic is backed up here. You can see we have these traffic officers here trying to get folks along here. Its becoming quite a mess here. Meanwhile by some stroke of luck or mercy, no one was injured last night, and thats really amazing when you consider how many bricks hit the wall. Heres a look at that wall. 100foot section of brick on the buildings facade missing. The building is on 64th street. Some of those bricks smashed the rear windshield of this yellow cab and hundreds more covered the sidewalk and the street. There is construction being done on the building. Thats a big reason why no one was injured. A little nothing too crazy, but then, again, the helicopter started coming out. Its pretty amazing. Im shocked that nobody got hurt. Earlier this morning a South African judge granted bail to Oscar Pistorius pending sentencing for his new murder conviction. A newly released dash cam video appears to show 25yearold Ronald Johnson running from police. An officer is seen firing five times. Johnson was hit twice. In baltimore the trial of Police OfficerWilliam Porter for the in custody death of freddie gray has erupted in a dispute over evidence. Porters defense say prosecutors withheld a document that show gray had a back injury a month before the arrest. He died of a spinal cord injury after Baltimore Police arrested him. A long island mom was shooting. Nicole mcdowell was riding in her boyfriends car last night on sunrise highway when he flashed his lights and passed a van that was weaving left and right. At 5 31, were following breaking news in queens where one man is dead. His partner is on the loose after trying to rob an offduty Police Officer. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama live in Springfield Gardens with the details. Reporter what was supposed to be a craigslist deal turned deadly quickly, ken. That offduty Police Officer met with two men here to talk and thats when things went south. The offduty Police Officer started to talk money with the two men. When they were haggling over the price of the car one man pulled out an air pistol. The officer then pulled out his gun and shot the man a number of times killing him. The second suspect took off in the car they were trying to sell, that older model white bmw which police are now looking for. A woman who lives across the street from where the teal was being made heard the whole thing going down. I was laying in bed watching tv and i heard a total of five to six gunshots, loud gunshots and i wasnt sure but about maybe 5 minutes later i heard sirens and helicopters and then i knew it was something serious. Police right now are looking for that white bmw along with the second suspect who fled in that car. As for the Police Officer he was not injured but brought to the hospital as part of live in queens, kala rama channel 7 Eyewitness News. Developing in manhattan, hundreds of bricks came crashing down on to a street from a building currently under construction. This happened near 64th and 1st avenue. Reporter good morning, lori, yeah, 1st avenue between 62nd and 64th is still off limits this morning. Behind me you can see the traffic officers trying to get the flow of traffic moving here while the fdny is keeping watch over that building where that wall came crashing down last night. It was quite a scene here with hundreds of bricks spread out across the street, and people from. Well, to find the answer to that question, look no higher than the 35th floor of this highrise on 64th street. You can see a large section of the buildings brick facade is missing. Take a look at this yellow cab. The rear windshield completely luckily no one was riding in the backseat. The bricks covered the sidewalk and the street. Some people thought they heard a loud explosion. Authorities say what they actually heard was the roar of so many bricks hitting the pavement at once. Laura smith was dining in a restaurant below the building. I was standing by the front of the restaurant and, you know, everything as usual and all of a sudden we hear this loud sound like a clatter coming down and this guy sitting in the front of the restaurant by the window jumps on top of his girlfriend and brings her down to the floor. Me and my coworker we freak out, and this big cloud of just dust goes up in the air, and you cant see anything. Reporter and back here leave along 1st avenue traffic is beginning to become a concern here because 1st avenue is still blocked off between 62nd and 64th. Folks are looking for a way around this, and its creating sort of a mess here. For the most part these traffic good job with keeping the traffic flowing. There is construction happening on this building here, and so there was scaffolding around it. That prevented more people from or anyone from being injured. Meanwhile the Buildings Department will have to conduct an investigation to figure out why that large section of wall came crashing down last night.
