Item 4, presentation of certificates of appreciation. Deputy chief rob postel over view of the fire at 10 inc. A lane on the 18th 20 to and the certificates of appreciation to teachers at Rosa Park Elementary School for heroic efforts. Thank you. Good evening chief postel. Good evening president feinstein and Vice President nabbing i dont and morgan and nicholson and command staff our honored teach and family members here tonight. I will give you ano view of the incident. We discuss today at the Commission Meetings in the past am on may 13th of this year, there was a significant fire that was very far advanced upon, rifle at 10 inc. A lane. Multiple rescues were made prior by the teachers here and firefighters on the scene. I have a short video that shows the intensity of this fire and describe what took place that day after arrival exit will introduce the Incident Commander as well. For the commission that was not there everybody the chief heads seen this. I will play this one more time it is a short vomit this was taken biour matt cannon from Communication Center down the streechlt heard the box come in knew there would be a working fire and raced up a block on foot and caught this video as we came on scene. A number of challenges confirmed the Fire Department that day. We made 7 rescues from this building. From the top floor, second floor being stair well and the rear you felt building. One of the rescues from the rear occurred because one we are honoring today informed the emotional truck 5 upon arrival there was somebody hanging out the back window on the top floor. Truck 5 and other companies that day were rung short staffed we were connecting officer training for new lieutenants. Lieutenants were being trained on theion and had people to companies that were may have been down to one body that limits ability to get things done. You have one person putting arial to the roof that is 3 others for ground ladder a lot of ladders take more than 3 people to get them up. They triaged and got the people out of the rear. Closed doors and installed fire attack on this massive fire you see. And make the rescues. The reason they got the rescues accomplished was because of actions by the teachers prior to aratify to notify people there was a fire and evacuate people, take people out so our crews account focus on the people who were trapped behind the walls of flames you see. Without their action and intervention i think the results would have been different than what we have. There was no loss of life despite the fact we rescued 7 people. Fortunate and thankful to the people from the school who were there that day and i told you before exit will tell you again im proud of overhaul firefighters that day. Job they did to put the fire out and recognize the rescues made and rescue every person out of this fire. I like to introduce the chief ken lee from station 5 turk and webster a couple blocks away he was the Incident Commander that day and arrived on the scene and ken may have more he wanted to add to how that incident trans pyred. Thank you president feinstein and commissioners. Chief of department and command staff am im ken yee i was commander at this fire im the shorter guy in the video there. You see this shot here the back of the building all 3 floors were involved and you go closer without the closed caption you see a hose line on the ground floor going in the back. Engine 5 took that ready line lead throughout wall and rescued 2 people and they were short staffed the officer and medic in there hose line protecting the officer. Saw a victim. Pulled him out. Back in and another victim on the b. First floor stairs. Those were 2 better than victims transported right away. The second set balcony truck 5 the ground ladder to the person showing the arial to that building the companies were short and worked hard to make the rescues. Another challenge was this building was at the end of a cull du sack and dead ends to inc. A. Later on the companies had to hand carry the ladders over a block. Usually we approach from both sides but in this case they had to hand carry equipment over a block. Thank you to the teachers to get most out it made our job easier and appreciate their heroic efforts. Thank you very much. Thank you. I share [inaudible] and i believe you have want to share comments with us. Thank you very much, madam president. Thank you very much chief postel. What i am burglar to do is read an article out of the japanese newspaper in our community that has been publishing since the early 100 year old journalist paper. This is may 26 the reporter was jefferad thatk, ra. While i read this, i thought it would be important this the chief postel give sum row from the point of view of the Fire Department. This article reflects in terms of the actions of the teachers from the commune perspective. So if you would bear with me i want to read this in the record and then at this point all the 5 teachers if you of coursed stand up in front of the podium and the president will proceed to present your certificate. After you receive if you wish to make remarks do so. And then at the end, well ask for comments 2 principals are attending tonight and they would be given an opportunity to say remarks as well. And again because the family members are here and the community are here i will ask the president if we can tick a 5 machine break for picture taking and appreciations. The headlines read teachers responded to fire in San Francisco western edition. Premesis cilia in the recess yard at rosa parks elementary in the western ekingdition neighborhood may 14 when a clothe said smoke was rising from the apartment complex behind the school. Japanese Program Teacher dialled 911. She ran toward the building 10 inca 39 get more information where to send the firefighters. However, some including old are asian couple were stuck on the second floor of the apartment complex and unable to escape until firefighters rescued them. She knocked on window and screamed, fire. All 3 said they would have done not done anything different. Added as a teacher, our first thing is to protect our kids and after knowing they were okay help anyway we could reflecting on the incident, lee was upset by the bistanners who took photos and failed to help people evacuate from the building commended other members for helping evacuating people from the building and the selflessness of clothes and apartment residents for helping evacuate people. We teach our kid when there is a fire drill or anything you leave your possessions. It is more about the person saving the life. She said as of may 23rd the fire remains under investigation by Fire Investigation task force. Again, thought it would be important for both departments to give their perspective and from the newspaper article. If all you have 5 instructors could stands up in front of the podium and at this point the president will read your certificates. Approach the will give your certificates and if you wish give remarks. To them. Have a nice tight line here. All right. Appreciate it very much. I just asking that you please work with the citizens of the city to aluprojects like this golden gate green way protected bike lanes, slow streets and other projects that are deried by a department that seems hostile to the public. Im calling to urge the Fire Department to start the construction of the green way project. As i understand from the reports this project for a critical open space in the neighborhood with virtually no green space has [inaudible] every stake holder of the block buy in from the neighborhood, supervisor and departments cross the city except for the Fire Department. For reasons that change and make no sense to the observers. Id like to ask the commission to use the authority and power to stop the destruction and find ways to work with the community i know this was not isolation. [inaudible] other reports about the Fire Department the blockade to take [inaudible] valencia sharing space [inaudible] [echo and muffled] held up by Fire Department through bad channels with the public never sees and this obstruction has to stop. I understands the critical roles the Fire Department play in keeping the city safism appreciate that but need the Fire Department to happened that the job is not just saving us from the fires there are ways they can help keep us safe and one is making sure that critical safety infrastructure gets built to protect people all of the time. Photocopy this means more public input to it out, fine. Getting tired of this. Especially in with regards to the upon golden gate green way. The neighborhood has been waiting please, make it happen. But that is not much and for him and his family it makes a difference to have opportunity like the golden gate green way to go. I would request that you provide the opportunity for him and the rest of [inaudible] who dont have this opportunity. Thank you. Thank you. Caller, would you like to make Public Comment. Yea. Thank you im luke im call nothing spchlt golden gate green way. It represents a historic opportunity for our city to create a new Family Friendly space in the tenderloin children, seniors and people of all ages and abilities. Proposed design create open space in the tenderloin [inaudible] per capita in our city. Tenderloin happens to be the most dangerous neighborhoodless in the city as far as Traffic Safety with every street in the tenderloin on our high injury network. The proposed design for the grown way has support from the community and the Mayors Office. Unfortunately the Fire Department has been [inaudible] 6 plus months. Resulted in the [inaudible] of open space. The Fire Department justification for obstructing this project changed numerous times. And their inability to clan rit and work on this is unacceptable. Calling in to xhoond the Fire Commission urge the staff to stop obstructing and work with leaders the sfmta, supervisor preston and the Mayors Office to make the design a reality. Tenderloin and the Community Members need the full vision of the grown way to be realized and you are capable of making that happen. Act today to help the Tenderloin Community make this Community Space a reality. Thank you. Thank you. Caller would you like to make Public Comment. Yes, i thank you. Im drew mc danielle i live in the tenderloin and calling to support the project the Fire Department held this up for 6 months with various objections and like the Fire Commission to ask the chief and staff to stop the obstruction and work to make the design a reality in the next month. Golden gate green way is overwhelmingly supported by residents, Community Stake holders, supervisor preston and the mayor. My neighborhood has almost no green space and this would be life changing for residents and especially the children who live here. Please do everything in your power to make this a reality. Thank you very much. Thank you. No more hands up. Public comment will be closed. Item 7. Chief of departments report. Report from chief of Department Jeanine Nicholson on issues, activity and events Went Department since the Fire Commission meeting on october 12 including budget, academy, special event, communication and out reach to gentleman agencies and the public. And report from Administration Deputy chief tom o connor on the decisions fleet and facility status and updates, finance, support services and home land security. Good evening. Upon president feinstein, Vice President nakajo, commissioner morgan and fraser. Our deputy City Attorney jack, command staff, chief Jeanine Nicholson this is my report. Since our left commission meeting. First i want to thank Vice President nakajo for bringing the teachers here and all their families for a feel good moment t. Is nice to do that, thank you very much. On october 15th, there was a drill out at st. Igneighborius and 2 commissioners there were nakajo and commissioner fraser. And it was the city wide drill. Good to see our in out there. On the 17th i addressed the new 9910 academy. There are 11 young people for those that may not know the 9910 academy is young people from the city amp program come to the department and work on the ambulance for 500 hours so they can get their required hours so they can apply for a full time job permanent job on the ambulance with us at station 49. They started a couple weeks ago and have a couple weeks of in person trinning and they will begin their ride outs on the ambulance. And so it is grit to see that program up and running and really getting young people this responsiblesful on the 17th, we had the art install lagz dedicated by station 35. That was a nice event. Lots of people from the marina showed up. People who really initial low started nert showed up. It was nice little event. We had a capital plan on the 18th. Where we discussed all the needs of the Fire Department and there are quite a list of needs for the Fire Department in terms of our projects. Not just our Fire Training fasailsillity but station 7 reboulevard all sorts of different projects toum keep our current fire stations and redo some of them. On the 20th i participated with the mayor and others in the great shake out. And then yesterday we had a 5. 1 earthquake the kids were trained up. I participated in the San Francisco Government Panel with Ben Rosenfield and leadership sf, myself and 3 other Department Heads tonya, michael and cheri we all got an opportunity to talk to the people that are about 50 of them in this leadership sf class, if you will. And some of them are people this work for the city already. Some work for nonprofits. Et cetera, et cetera. It was interesting. And to hear from them and we got to hear from us. Also on the 20th a busy day our ceremony as you know and thank you for coming. It was another i think a feel good event that was long over due. And nice to see families in the audience as limp thank you all for attending that. 22nd i went with captain anderson to pier 3032 for out reach Police Department motorcycle skills event. We recruit different events and this was one of them. Just the other day, cd1, 2, 3, 4 given a run down on this cancer test. It was the gal row cancer test presentation. And this is a cancer test that is going to come to our members. It is funded by the San Francisco firefighter Cancer Prevention foundation and detect 50 types of cancer. So the people that are eligible to take the test are those that are over 35 and that have been in the department for 5 years or longer. It has a very low rate of false positives and has been used by other diameters throughout the country. So that will be in early december when we will make that available with the Cancer Prevention foundation to our members. Thanks to the Cancer Prevention foundation for the great w they do. Had a conversation about switching up our testing. Our entrance testing for h2 firefighters. This has been on going for awhile. Switching from the National Testing net cork to the sctc a state wide test with support from the fire emotionals office. Support from labor where young people can get some wrap around services to help them throughout process. So we are looking to move to that. And in the next year. There will be a transition period where we accept thoseom the list from the ntn. People dont have to take both tests. We will be switching to this that is the plan. And today i attended the economic recovery meeting with the Economic Workforce Development and majors office and stake hold torse talk about the projects upcoming to start bringing our city back and i dont know if you noticed you can roller skate across the street there is a roller skating rink next to the Asian Art Museum and so00 autoguy that runs upon who is big in Golden Gate Park with the roller skating is running it. Break a leger dont but this is one of the things the city is dog to entice people back and have fun in the city. And covid19 continues in our department. We just have 2 positive people with covid and 5 on quarantine and a few others off longterm. But good news in all that the numbers are declining. And that concludes my report. Happy to take questions. Thank you chief nicholson. Any questions from the commissioners . Vice president nakajo. Thank you very much madam president and thank you chief nicholson. I did not know if i wrote it down you talked about transition of the tests for hr du say that was a state or National Test or what is that . So far we used to have a local test when i came in it was but then im not sure how many years ago we switched to the ntn or National Testing network. And so anybody from across the United States could take the test and ends up on a list for the sudden fran Fire Department. We get people tr all overnight place on this list. And you know it was also found to you know possible low have bias in the it and so we have been working with on local 798. The state Fire Marshalls Office and the tom o connor can tell me what is stands for to move to that test t. Is not in process yet but hope that will be within the next among or 2. Okay and that would be a National Level test . No a state test would that state test have any consideration for being local bay area from San Francisco. Thats a secondary criteria that can be looked at. But you know again it is a california test and so if young people want to take advantage of services that are offered by that they can do this to their own benefit. They will get training or. Okay. Okay. Thank you. I come from an era where people stand or come to the department where we had the application. If they did in the make the dead line time line they were out. Yes. I remember the days when i would observe a test and at embarcadero and take over to the pier and 3,000 in line. Screening and audio i stood in the back i could not hear or see anything and the pencil was broken. So to move from that to a national and when i came in i learned about in order to get in you gotta be on the list. Everybody can take it so in ways it sounded okay in the sense of access but taking the considerations i was told before that you could in the take a consideration of localized bay area 9 county San Francisco. And that was what i was interested in. At least to have the cans tragz of that thank you very much for the information i wanted share with the commissioners the experiences of, thank you. Commissioner fraser. Thank you. Thank you, chief for your report a couple things. The the event was great and fun after i want to the fire house open houses. I went to 3 stations. The floating station, number 5 and 29. I think i got that right. I know 29 it is the bottom of the hill i live had o and the floating station was great to visit. I had a wonderful tour and webster street number 5 also. I want to thank those of you who are in touch with those folks and supervisoring them for their welcome and their tour. And the other thing i wanted to ask the gallery cancer test. As i understand this thing costs a thousand dollars per person. May be partave study or something but dpu say members are participating our offered to them . So, yes, not a thousand i think it is closer to 700. If i called and ask it would can have the me. Yea our members are offered the town to anticipate if they are 35 plus and 5 years or more in the department typeset is strict low volunteer. I heard stories about them catching some, you know cancer early on in firefighters and other departments. Okay. And are very little in terms of false positives. I will read up on this. This you are welcome. Chief i had a follow up question. In the same topic as upon commissioner fraser was asking. Next up the gallery test for firefighters that chief nicholson was speaking about. This is the most exciting things we have done. The Cancer Foundation started by stephen and he staggered in the beginning. When we got a hold of how bandwidth problem was with firefighter and cancer. Efforts lead to a test where we identified 50 thousand firefighters in San Francisco, chicago and philadelphia and created the Gold Standard of ref search to determine firefightering and cancer were linked. And since we have done kidney and bladder screening. Colon Cancer Screening this it is a new domain. A blood test that tests for 50 cancers in firefighters. And thanks to chief his state donated millions to our cancer found anticipation. In his passing and that donation that allowing you to provide this test for our member active and retired. It it is millions of dollars he provided well buy the test for everybody and we will hit him on the side and get them to sign up for the charitys program to give paycheck. It it is to keep our fundraising coming inform im excited. Got the results from phoenix and a low rate of false positives and there were many cancers identified early. We are looking forward to seeing what happened. And near and dear to matt alba a cancer survivor it is grit to see him participating importantly. There was a great story on pbs on chief nicholson and alba it is a 9 minute story i thought it would be long look it up. Firefighters work at higher risk of cancer if you want to google and seat video it fantastic. Matt was busy in september working in expanding the [inaudible] program and participating in helping with the best Health Symposium and array of other works. Under office of Employee Health and stefani felts. We are proud to announce the mandated screen suggest return thanksgiving fall we test for tb and hearing tests for all firefighters. The sigh our members lieutenant anderson and left night i was at post tour 56 honor thellow lieutenant anderson [inaudible] firefighters of the year a fantastic even they were recognized for community service. We had fire station open house. Commissioner fraser tucked about well attended. Kid had a great time and left low monday night football the Veterans Association the color guards for the 49ers game that concludes my support for september of 22. Thank you. Thank you. Chief. Questions . Vice president nakajo. Thank you very much, chief for that comprehensive report. I wanted to comment on those items that i think are good and significant. You mentioned that chart this talked about San Francisco hss and integration that is really an excellent diagram on seat connections. And to have real substance behind each. And i wanted to acknowledge the cancer test and the generous donation. I think that is significant. And very important so and always to hear the news about the arial and [inaudible] coming. Thank you very much, chief. Madam president. Thank you. Vice president nakajo. Yes. Commissioner fraser. Thank you. Thank you for your report, chief it was really good. One question, the Behavioral Health resources are pretty significant and wide ranging and what they are offering. I wonder how many people access that month low, anualy if you electronic temperature if you have an idea . We started. It traditional low it has been a private endeavour we keep the confidentiality for members reaching out. In the past there was shame regarding Mental Health. So reasonable we collected data and got our number in. I can bring this next time but we will have it for 3 months we do our members are busy. I will have that for you next month. No problem. Thank you very much. Okay. I have one question for you, chief. I was delighted to attends my first trianual. And went to 4 different houses. I thank the chief for putting up with me all day. And it was very interesting to see just the different houses what newhouse and old house. The members are creative and ways that they create their own Health Equipment and the way they create other things, too. The question with that i wanted ask is and i will get the station number wrong but i went inspect to a station and this has to do again back to cancer. And that back to imness. Where there was a shower, sauna, bike in the sauna. And it was explained to me a firefighter coming out of a significant fire would upon i may not have understood this. Correct me. Would take a lukewarm shower, get in the sauna, ride the bike as fast as they could until they were sweating and then get out and take another lukewarm shower and im trying to timed out if that was not present where i did in the see it in all stations. What is the status of this . What do you have is there information on wlch it ws ownership helps. Is it too early to say in the initial research indicate its does help but not00 autodpurnsdz anticipation provided fund for example stations to test them and results to see what is happening. The baseline scientisted firefighter primary to delivering the sauna can special after and test the blood for levels offul heavy metals. But finding the initial thoughts remember had we started this we would inhaling toksince now as we go along weep find out it is dermal exposure. We are trying to get the toxins out sweat them out after the fire. And speaking of that, this is a followum question [inaudible] i saw in some of the stations they had sort of washing machines. And like a drying room for that which was taken out of the i dont know it is a washing machine. Thats what it looked like. And do we have those in all our stations . We do. We have them in all stations. It is said changing fire house culture is turning an oil tanker around. Wearing dirty turn out system harmful. I tomorrow is a fantastic washing equipment and hangingum and making sure they are not exposing themselves. We have them in every fire house now. Do you believe the officers are requiring it the of firefighters they do this . Officers are and culturally our newest members are the best and inspiring. It does in the take much. They are leading of the officers they are aware of the things and someone like myself or chief postel may be dinosaurs and have to be reminded. Im not going to figure that you and chief postel are dinosaurs but i understand. I understand the point it was interesting to for me to see that. I just want to give what we call a shout out when chief was speaking with the folks on duty there. And going through what needs are and issues were and stations are very different. Some are brandnew and beautiful others are old and it was amazing that anybody could get them as clone as they got them. Just buzz the will materials were old. But am to a station everybody had compliments for the chief. And how quickly he got on things and got things doneful it was appreciated by the members that were there. At all 4 houses i went to. Shout out to you, chief he is our miracle workir. We cant thank him enough. Apparently he can get anything fixed if hoe fixes it or gets a lot done. Compliments to him. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Nobody has their hands up on the Public Comment line. Why Public Comment will be closed. [inaudible]. [no mic [ item 8, adjournment. [music] im Angela Romero a lieutenant with the San Francisco Fire Department. Im a San Francisco native. Went to an all girls school st. John and the Grammar School prior and went to San Francisco state. Where i got a degree. And i am fortunate to live in the sdpae raise my family here. I received a degree in international marketing. I thought, i will be a buyer and travel all over the world. It did not happen like that. I went in business in retail but felt like i had it in mow to help others. When i decided to do a career change, it was my husband who said, hey, you are athletic and you care about your community and the city that we live in. Go with me and get an interest card for the Fire Department. It is caring for my community and the citizens of San Francisco does not matter what their make up is or their situation. That is most important to me. Taking care of the citizens. I like teaching now. I like sharing my knowledge in the experiences with the young generation coming in new recruits. As a latina, im proud of when my culture can bring to this job. And that is a sense of family. Which this is my second family. It was and started with my class. The 97th class. Thats hai tell my recruits. You learn to help each other we cannot do this job alone. I already had a family i was married and had a family when i began to pursue the Fire Department. It was a lot of work. Took me away from my family. But if it was not for them, i mean encouragement i received, i dont think i would have made it through. So, very happy that i had a family like that and happy that i joined this family. Because i have met and worked with very incredible men and women of all walks of life who helped me to get to where i am at. [music] the tenderloin is home to families, immigrants, seniors, merchants, workers and the housed and unhoused who all deserve a thriving neighborhood to call home. The tenderloin initiative was launched to improve safety, reduce crime, connect people to services and increase investments in the neighborhood. As city and communitybased partners, we work daily to make these changes a reality. We invite you to the tenderloin history, inclusivity make this neighborhood special. Were all citizens of San Francisco and we deserve food, water, shelter, all of those things that any system would. What i find the most fulfilling about being in the tenderloin is that its really basically a big family here and i love working and living here. [speaking foreign language] my hopes and dreams for the tenderloin are what any other Community Organizer would want for their community, safe, clean streets for everyone and good operating conditions for small businesses. Everything in the tenderloin is very good. The food is very good. If you go to any restaurant in San Francisco, you will feel like oh, wow, the food is great. The people are nice. It is a place where it embraces all walks of life and different cultures. So this is the soul of the tenderloin. Its really welcoming. The. The tenderloin is so full of color and so full of people. So with all of us being together and making it feel very safe is challenging, but we are working on it and we are getting there. We know that same sex marriage originated in the netherlands. We like to talk about San Francisco and how we are the mecca but we have a sister in the netherlands and how they promote and push for things to support this extraordinary community. What an honor it is to be here. Mayor reed, thank you for giving us, not only myself but the people the opportunity to think through. The sister and netherlands and San Francisco share so many things. Its something that we feel so strongly about. And im here not only to learn about your sister but to learn from each other where were good at. We have to lead from example. We have to make our lives equal. Everybody feels at home where ever they live. This is something that we take serious in the netherlands. With your leader ship but also the leadership with this amazing community. So glad when it comes to the rights of the lgbtq community, we all come together and we stand in solidarity and we make magic happen. Thats why its so good to be here with the queen and promote the work that theyre doing in the netherlands and what were doing in the San Francisco. And how were going to continue to push to support this community to make sure that its not just these amazing place thats is safe and supportive of this community. But we make sure that the entire world is such. That is what our goal is. Having the queen at the for front at the fight, is absolutely extraordinary. Thank you so much, your majesty for being here with us today. [applause] i dont want to be involved in the process after it happens. I want to be there at the front end to help people with something in my mind from a very early age. Our community is the important way to look at things, even now. George floyd was huge. It opened up wounds and a discussion on something festering for a long time. Before rodney king. You can look at all the instances where there are calls for change. I think we are involved in change right now in this moment that is going to be long lasting. It is very challenging. I was the victim of a crime when i was in middle school. Some kids at recess came around at pe class and came to the locker room and tried to steal my watch and physically assaulted me. The officer that helped afterwards went out of his way to check the time to see how i was. That is the kind of work, the kind of perspective i like to have in our Sheriffs Office regardless of circumstance. That influenced me a lot. Some of the storefronts have changed. What is mys is that i still see some things that trigger memories. The barbershop and the shoe store is another one that i remember buying shoestrings and getting my dads old army boots fixed. We would see movies after the first run. My brother and i would go there. It is nice. If you keep walking down sacramento. The nice think about the city it takes you to japan town. That is where my grandparents were brought up. That is the traditional foods or movies. They were able to celebrate the culture in that community. My family also had a drycleaning business. Very hard work. The family grew up with apartments above the business. We have a builtin work force. 19 had 1 as 1941 as soon as that happened the entire community was fixed. Determined to do the job as democracy should with real consideration for the people involved. The decision to take every one of japan niece american o japanese from their homes. My family went to the mountains and experienced winter and summer and springs. They tried to make their home a home. The Community Came together to share. They tried to infuse each home are little things. They created things. I remember my grand mother saying they were very scared. They were worried. They also felt the great sense of pride. Japanese americans. My granduncle joined the 442nd. When the opportunity came when the time that was not right. They were in the campaign in italy. They were there every step of the way. President truman pays tribute. That was the most decorated unit in the history of the United States army. Commitment and loyal to to the country despite that their families were in the camp at that time. They chose to come back to San Francisco even after all of that. My father was a Civil Servant as well and served the state of california Workers Compensation attorney and judge and appellate board. My parents influenced me to look at Civil Service s. I applied to police, and Sheriffs Department at the same time. The Sheriffs Department grabbed me first. It was unique. It was not just me in that moment it was everyone. It wasnt me looking at the crowd. It was all of us being together. I was standing there alone. I felt everyone standing next to me. The only way to describe it. It is not about me. It is from my father. My father couldnt be there. He was sick. The first person i saw was him. I still sometimes am surprised by the fact i see my name as the sheriff. I am happy to be in the position i am in to honor their memory doing what i am doing now to help the larger comment. When i say that we want to be especially focused on marginalized communities that have been wronged. Coming from my background and my family experienced what they did. That didnt happen in a vacuum. It was a decision made by the government. Nobody raised their voice. Now, i think we are in a better place as country and community. When we see something wrong we have change agents step up to help the community affected. That is a important thing to continue to do. You talk about change and being a leader in change and not knowing whether you have successes or results. The fact of the matter is by choosing to push for change you have already changed things. Through inspiration for others, take up the matter or whether it is through actual functional change as a result of your voice being heard. I think you have already started on a path to change by choosing that path. In doing that in april of itself creates change. I continue in that type of service for my family. Something i hope to see in my children. I have a pretty good chance with five children one will go into some sort of Civil Service. I hope that happens to continue that legacy. I am paul, sheriff of San Francisco. [ music ]. We are a Family Business that started in San Francisco chinatown by my parents who started the business in the mid 1980s. Today we follow the same footsteps of my parents. We source the teas by the harvest season and style of crafting and the specific variety. We specialize in premium tea. Today i still visit many of the farms we work with multigenerational farms that produce premium teas with its own natural flavors. It is very much like grapes for wine. What we do is more specialized, but it is more natural. Growing up in San Francisco i used to come and help my parents after school whether in middle school or high school and throughout college. I went to San Francisco state university. I did stay home and i helped my parents work throughout the summers to learn what it is that makes our community so special. After graduating i worked for an Investment Bank in hong kong for a few years before returning when my dad said he was retiring. He passed away a few years ago. After taking over the business we made this a little more accessible for visitors as well as residents of San Francisco to visit. Many of our teas were traditionally labeled only in chinese for the older generation. Today of our tea drinkkers are quite young. It is easy to look on the website to view all of our products and fun to come in and look at the different varieties. They are able to explore what we source, premium teas from the providence and the delicious flavors. San francisco is a beautiful city to me as well as many of the residents and businesses here in chinatown. It is great for tourists to visit apsee how our community thrived through the years. This retail location is open daily. We have minimal hours because of our small team during covid. We do welcome visitors to come in and browse through our products. Also, visit us online. We have minimal hours. It is nice to set up viewings of these products here. Good afternoon the meeting will come to order this is the october 262022 budget and financ
