Today marked a day when the next congress would take shape. Kentucky senator Mitch Mcconnell has been elected majority leader and of course, on the democratic side, look at this Elizabeth Warren has secured a leadership role as the new Strategic Policy adviser to the policy committee. Thats a big title. The role was created specifically for her and secures a progressive voice in the leadership. What is the left concerned about right now in Mitch Mcconnell has made it very clear what the agenda is going to be all about. At the top of his let is repealing and chipping away at obamacare. Okay. Give him that. Whats the plan . Here is mcconnell just one day after winning the majority. Its no secret that every one of my members thinks that obamacare was a huge legislative mistake. It has fouled up the Health Insurance market put states in a deep hole in terms of the medicaid expang and our own ability to finance it a few years from now. If i had the ability, carl, obviously, i would get rid of it. Obviously, its also true its still there. So well issue discussing how to go forward on this issue when we get back. I have to throw these numbers at you right away, folks. He just said that it has screwed up the insurance market. Thats not the numbers i have. Unitedhealthcare group up 17 . Humana up 45 , ate netna, up 30 look at them, theyre up 47 . Wow Mitch Mcconnell wants to take away healthcare for 10 million americans. The republican agenda seems to want to reverse everything on health care. This is what mcconnell wants to repeal. 10 Million People. 10. 3 uninsured americans have received coverage since october 1st of 2013. Thats a hard number that can be verified. Republicans have no solution to find those Americans Health care. Wheres the plan . Its not on the table. Its all negativity coming from them. Heres another thing about business. There has been a 25 increase in the total number of insurer sellers, Health Insurance plans in the marketplace. That means there are more people in the mix. 8. 2 million seniors safered 1ve million in costs. This is what its done for seniors. Republicans want to get rid of that. I have to say that because they dont have a plan right now. The growth of health care has dropped from 2010 to 2013 per capita, health costs grew at an annual rate of just 1. 1 . It is the slowest rate for any threeyear period on record. Lets talk about the hospitals for a moment. How are they doing . Hospitals are projected to save 5. 7 billion this year in Uncompensated Health Care costs. That means the taxpayer isnt picking up the tab for americans who cant afford it. You know those americans going into the emergency room where the republicans were telling them where to go get care and someone else had to pay the bill. They get coverage now. 78 of those savings were coming from states that have e panneded medicaid. So lets not forget the most important provision of the Affordable Care act. Its consumer protections. You would think the republicans are concerned about consumers. Wait a minute. They dont have anything on the table and republicans want to go back to the days ever Health Insurance companies having all of the power and denying the sick and denying coverage of preexisting conditions and they want to go back to the limits of coverage and in other words, they only want to pay so much and they want to get rid of the free preventsive care which of course gets you out in front of your health situation. Republicans want to deny young adults under the age of 26 from staying on their parents plan which is very popular. Republican opposition to obamacare is purely as i see it political at this point, maybe the plans coming out tomorrow and what i gave you here tonight are numbers that are verifiable and its the truth. This is the law. It is saving money. Its working for millions of americans and and its save being living. Dont ask me why the democrats couldnt run on what i just did here in the last four minutes. I dont know. I dont know. It seems to me like its a pretty good sell, but theres been so much personality bashing on the president. There has been so much negativity and lies about the law these are the hard numbers one year after. Okay. Ill give it to you. Lets get to health care. Why do the republicans not have a plan on the table, dana. All they talk about is repeal and the numbers i gave are facts. Harry reid had it on his desk. You know there are nine plans that have been submitted by House Republicans and several of those which were presented prior to the passage of obamacare and ultimately, thats a question that we need to does the majority leader harry reid, and a lot of them have really good stuff in there that i think should have been included in obamacare. What do you agree with and do the republicans agree with of the numbers that ive put out and you were citing numbers. This is the Congressional Budget Office and we know how the cbo works and they just kind of score what you give them. Whose numbers do you want to believe . The Congressional Budget Office is going nonpartisan. The people have reported in. What did you say . Republicans want to the run 10 Million People off of health care. They do. I would say that the administrations done a bangup job with that so far because 4. 7 million have found are there more people in health care. Thats a yes or no. And the family members have lost Health Insurance. Thats because it was junk insurance. No, no, no. You dont get to slip that out there and run off. Ill get to that. There are federal standards that cant be sold in the marketplace. I know they lower their criteria. Want to be crystal clear. You say that there are fewer people in this country with health care today than a year ago. Did i hear that correctly . Remember, it was the lie of the year just recently that the president promised if you like your Health Care Plan you can keep it. Thats not the question. I want you to tell my audience. Dana, im not going to do this. Dana, hold on. I want you to deny there are more are you telling me that there are fewer people with health care in this country . Yes or no. Obamacare you wont answer the question and you wont give me the answer. You want to move the goalpost. Either you have insurance or you dont. Do you believe that obamacare has given more insurance to people . 4. 7 million. Im doing the interview here. Im showing you respect by doing the interview. Youre interviewing me back. Im doing you a favor by doing this interview, ed. If its a job killer why is there five months of private sector job growth. You answer with a question. You answer with a question. Are these numbers phoney . Its unequivocal the fact that we have more people now insured than previously and its also been a huge list for young people and its been a huge list of people of color and four women and the idea that we did have some bumps in the beginning certainly the case and the idea that some people did have to switch to different insurance because it warrant up to the standards of the law is certainly the case, but overall if you look at the country as a whole there is no doubt that folks are better off and they cant be kicked off their coverage and theres nothing that the republicans have offered that comes anywhere close. There are plans out there. They have offered piecemeal things and things like selling across state lines and do any of them come close to insuring the number of people that the obamacare act ensures . I dont think that they would have cost 4. 7 Million People perfectly good Health Insurance. Some of them would have. Again, to answer your question, though, would the republican plans cover as many people as obamacare does . By the federal government it would make it exponentially easier for people do do it. Thats not based on what the cbo says. No, no, no, no. First off, thats not true either. I mean, you cant say that thats not true. It hasnt een been sent to the cbo. Independent analysis. Now youre quoting the cbo. Dana [ indiscernible ] now youre quoting them. Let me talk to crystal for a second. Youre not running over me. Dana, youre not going to filibuster. Im not going to let you do it. Im not going to answer your question. They talked about portability. Youre being unworkable right now. Ill give you more time. Youre rude as it stands right now. I gave you the shot and you ran all over it. All of these Insurance Company stocks are up. Whoa i just got to get a word in here. Im glad im here because i bring a different perspective and a different lens if the young lady thats on the camera right now would understand and look into a patients eyes, a person that has never had health care in their life that will now come to the clinic and which happens in my kleinic almost every day and i have diabetes and ive been going to the er which has cost my hospital a Million Dollars over my lifetime and now i have primary care. Thank you so much for allowing this to happen. When you can do that and then look at somebodys eyes and say, you know what . I dont want you to have that insurance then we can talk, but until then, they just dont get it. The republicans have not come out and said, okay. This is what were going to keep on obamacare. A, b, c, d. They havent done that. All theyve done is talk about repeal. So dana, let me go back to you. Was there junk insurance in the industry before this law, yes or no . Well, first off were not going to frame the question that way. What are you talking about . Hold on, can i answer your question . Were not going frame the question that way . Did you bring me on here to yell at me for ten minutes . I want you to answer the question. Was there junk insurance. Im giving you an opportunity here. This is how im giving you an opportunity. This is how you need to ask it. Do i believe that insurance is perfect . No. I dont believe Health Insurance youre not the hoechst of th show. Ill give you the floor for 30 seconds. Dont yell at me. Ill wait. You have the floor for 30 seconds. Do i believe that Health Insurance needed to be reformed . Absolutely. I believe there are a number of things that we have done. We could have decoupled business from peoples Health Insurance so that they can always maintain their Health Insurance no matter if they had to change jobs or not. One of the things that i wish we could do and i wish government can do and i would hope, ed that our Republican Congress takes the opportunity to do is to increase competition. We could have more choices and less cost. There are 25 more youre going to yell at me now. Ill interrupt you because i gave you 30 seconds. There is competition in the market now offering plans and thats been taken care of in that regard. There are federal standards now and there are federal standards that must be met by the Insurance Industry that they cant sell plans that dont live up to what consumers need. We have an election. That has been decided, okay . And you are a Republican Congress. Turn around. Thats good. Hey, look. Youve got the power. Give us the plan. Weve had plans that have been submitted and on the specifics if you decouple the employer insurance, that would entail a lot of people losing their current insurance which is what youre upset about right now. Thats exactly what that would entail. One of the reasons that obamacare was crafted in the way that it was was to keep as many people on the plan as they have. As you pointed out and as ed pointed out some of those plans that people had didnt meet the standards of quality Health Insurance so yes, it was not 4. 3 Million People, but a number of people did have to switch to a better, more Higher Quality plan. Dana, you have the final word. I just have a quick question, if were talking about standards of care, im curious as to what standards of care. I have a very good friend of mine who is dealing with breast cancer. She lost her Health Insurance in st. Louis and is dealing with obamacare and she does not have access to the Cancer Centers in st. Louis. I dont believe that. I want to interview her. Dr. Aber, you believe that . Thats not true. She may not be able to keep her exact Healthcare Plan because of the doctor that she wants, but that doesnt matter because its about healthcare for all not just one person. Okay. The prior law had said, look, if you set up one of these planned communities you have to allow people in it to vote at least after ten years. In this case, theres no guarantee that any of these people, 2,500 people in 11,000 acres in ave maria, florida, will ever get a chance to vote. So think, you will have people like tom moynihan who is a very ied diosyncratic catholic decid if you want to watch soft porn on the table, you cant do that. If you want to go into a Grocery Store and you want to buy a condom, you cant do it in ave maria, florida. There is something wholly unconstitutional about it, because if these folks who live in that town cannot ever vote theyll never change the policies. This gentleman stepped down from Ave Maria University in 2011. Yet, i understand hes still involved in the town. So, where is Law Enforcement here . I mean, if are there laws being broken right now . Well, if there are laws being broken then its up to the people in the surrounding county to have their police force come in and enforce those laws. Similarly, if you dont want to go to the catholic school, the Elementary Schools and all of the way to high school you are still allowed to go to a Public School outside ave maria. The only people that would be in the community would be people who want to live that way, worship that way and live their life that way. So isnt that somewhat of a statement of freedom in regard . Not really because we gave up on this idea that if youre comfortable with people, remember when there were only women stewardesses on airplanes and then somebody said we should hire men and the big airlines years and years ago said, you know, we think most people who fly are business travelers. Theyre not going to be comfortable being served by a man. Theyre more comfortable being served by a woman in a skirt. Comfort level is not a constitutional standard and its not a constitutional standard in a town set up in florida by tom monahan who did dispose of Dominos Pizza. He now owns a place called dominos farm. One of the places that sued the United States government so they didnt have to provide contraceptives to their female empl employ. To your knowledge does the Catholic Church endorse this . There is no stamp of approval as i understand it from the Catholic Church. There is a cathedral in ave maria. Mr. Moynihan tried to appoint one of his favorite priests to be the head of that church, the surrounding officials from floridas Catholic Community said you cant do that and so that didnt work. So they dont have a parish or priest right now . No. What they have is the only privately owned Catholic Church in the United States of america. Okay. And they have problems. Theres certainly dissent within the Catholic Church, including in that church and there is essentially no way to communicate those views to anybody else. So you have no Representative Democracy. You have no contraception and no Adult Entertainment on cable. You have absolutely no freedom in this place set up by jeb bush. Fox news followed up their coverage kind of like with a freakout. You have the president rewriting the law and you have the president failing to comply with his oath. That equals offenses that rises to the level of impeach ability. Every one of these individuals will be given a photo i. D. , a Social Security number and the right to take a job in america. On the senate races, who campaigned on working with obama on immigration. Name the republican . Nobody. Theres no mandate to work with booobama. The mandate thats what its about. Okay. Now i get it. Thats an interesting technique. They have to ask the host a questi question. Thats where it came from. Okay. For Immigration Reform, the question is not if. The question is when. What are the expectations of the Latino Community for the president to move on this when the, lets face it, when the republicans have been so stubborn and havent moved on it at all . The expectation is that the time is now. We honestly of theed him to do it long before even in the middle of all these races. He didnt. He said he would do it after the election. Well, its after the election and we look forward to him doing an executive action and by the way, clinton didnt do it, but reagan did it and both bushes did it when it comes to Immigration Reform and they used executive action and i find it interesting that now we have the republicans criticizing the president and threatening to impeeve him. Thats ridiculous. They have an opportunity to act right now. There is a bill that was passed in a bipartisan way that they can take to vote and the votes are there. What about the talk of impeachment if the president moves on this, and the hot button issue of senator sessions is that hes concerned about the work permits and the question of legality surrounding that. How do you break that down . Just as your guest mentioned were talking about something that happened consistently throughout history. Since eisenhower there have been 39 xeshg tiff actions taken by u. S. President s including many that involved work permits on immigration. So this is something thats well within his scope of authority. Its certainly no question that this has nothing to do with impeachment. This is the kind of thing that has to be done because congress has not acted and so these republicans that are making noise now, and we wouldnt be in this legislation. If the legislative body comes forward and delivers something, that think, would supersede what the president has done. Is that almost like a motivational move, isnt it . Absolutely. The thing is that they can certainly pass an immigration law, but i just want to make sure that people remember that there is a bipartisan law that passed the senate that is sitting there and they wont bring it to a vote at congress, so i just think its ridiculous that theyre saying we need to bring about a law ourselves. What do you mean . You did. It was passed in a bipartisan way, and about the visas. Let me add that the chamber of commerce has been asking for this relief for the visas for people to be able to get their work permits. So this is not just democrats. This is the Business Community saying that we need this. Now, the republicans, conservatives are seriously going to look at this as amnesty which they, of course, dont want anything to do with. Whats your response to that, henry . Again, this is nothing to do with amnesty. This is an important authority that the president has and its the Constitutional Authority to make sure that our laws are enforced appropriately. What were talking about now is currently 1,000 people are deported every single day in the United States. Thats tearing apart families. We cannot have an immigration policy that tears apart families. I was at a rally that senator blumenthal had in connecticut just last week. Two young girls, middle school age girls got up and spoke about how their mother, these two girls are u. S. Citizens. Their mother is currently being detained on the other side of the country in texas, being held in a facility in a detention facility in texas. These are American Families that are being torn apart by a policy that doesnt work. Why arent conservatives, you know, emotionally connected to a story like that . Why cant a story like that move conservatives . I dont understand how anyone couldnt see the profamily aspects of what were talking about here and this is really something thats going to not only be good for families, but its going to be good for the u. S. Economy. Were talking about Something Like 5 billion being pumped just into payroll taxes as a result of the first year of this kind of relief. The opportunity here is tremendous and everyone should get behind it and i think it will have real implications for the 2016 elections if republicans come out and try to impeach the president. Were talking about impacting families and particularly latino families and asian families. The two fastestgrowing electoral blocks in america deporting their parents and deporting our children. This is simply unacceptable and its time for change. Annette, theres got to be trust here, okay . Is this the right thing for the president to do now or should he give Mitch Mcconnell maybe a 30day window once he gets in a position of leadership where the new congress to do something about it . No. The time is now. We absolutely must do it now and i will tell you why they dont get the family aspect of family reunification and not separation. They see what they call Illegal Immigrants which are really just regular people that are born here and separated from their family. So they see us as almost subhuman. A threat . Probably.
