Use only safe and trust worthy technology. Especially relating to the 5g network. We Work Together to secure the technology of the future and speaking of 5g and how it relate to china who we have done an incredible great deal. Phase one for our farmers and the Financial Services and it has been really quite amazing. Excuse me, is there a problem back there . It has been quite amazing. The level of receptivity has been different than the past. China and myself, our representatives and their representatives have made a deal from 40 to 50 billion in agriculture products. People said we were hoping for 20. China has been good. They already started purchasing. The agreement we hope to have it signed sometimes prior to chile. Well probably do a signing over there in phase one. There has been a lot of goodwill between the United States and china. We are signing from 40 to 50 billion. It was incorrectly reported in the press, thatll take place, it already started taken place. They already purchased a lot of farm products. All the banking regulations and other things included and there are many other things in phase one that i wont talk about now. All of that is moving along rapidly. Bob lighthizer is with us some place here and hes in the process of getting it completed. Have a great staff working on both sides. Mr. President it is a true pleasure to host you at our nations capitol. You love your country so much, i see how much you love italy and i can understand that. It is an inspiration, a testament and pride of the italian people. Great spirit for italy. America is grateful to have true friends and allies in the the United States is like wise thankful to be home to more than 16 million italian americans tonight here at the white house. Well celebrate our deep abiding friendship with italy and the incredible italian people. The u. S. Italian alliance is stronger than ever before. Well be celebrating it with you mr. President. I look forward to that very much in a little while. In the meanwhile, thank you very much and we would love to have you say a few words. Thank you. I want to thank you President Trump very much for his invitation and the welcome to myself and my entire delegation. The relationship between the United States and italy are marks by deep friendship and by common interests. Both strengthen by the president here in the u. S. By so Many Americans of italian decenscent. Thats why i am so happy to be here on this visit of october dedicated this year again to itali itali italian heritage. I would like to go back to what President Trump was saying when he mentioned crhristopher columbus where he opened new horizons. Based on the role of the u. S. , it seems to me that he did a good job back then. To italy, the u. S. Is not only a fundamental ally but also a country with rich if shares the same path of democracy. A country that shares the same values of freedom and the protection of human rights. Respect for minorities and the rule of law. Italys International Vision has been on the pillar which is the Atlantic Alliance which then overtime led to european integration and the union. Which is a consistent process. These are two essential elements of our Foreign Policy and in our cooperation. We are united. The u. S. , italy and europe are united due to our history and our references and the culture that we share and due to the intense human relations that we have between our fellow selfdefen citizens. As President Trump mentioned earlier we talked about nato. Nato is first and for most a community of values which italy recognizes and the two should participate in the convention and very factually. Italy has always contributed very intensely to natos missions and operations. We have substantially supported the activities. I would like to remind you the fact that being the fifth contributor to nato, italy is the second contributor in terms of the troops devote to nato mission. After the u. S. , we are ranked number two of participating in nato operations along with all the other operations, we perform through the u. N. And coalition against terrorism which is developed in recent years. And, i would like to remind you the fact that as we speak, six italian f35s of these young air force are patrolling the skies over iceland in the framework of the second nato mandate as a way of ensuring peace and security. Italy constantly reiterated that the transatlantic spirit has to be nurtured and protected with all of our strengths and of all dimensions of the relationship that we share. With this spirit in mind, i hope the new five year parliamentary terms of the new European Union, we can foster or cooperation on trade between the u. S. And e. U. We are aiming to define solutions that can strengthen our relationships because commercial trade tensions to benefit. I would like to add that we share with the u. S. The belief that the wto should be reformed more efficient and effective. And, as President Trump mentioned, we talked about syria. We are deeply concerned with turkey offensive in the North Eastern part of syria, and the attack already causing number of casualties and tens of thousands of refugees and displace people. And there are plenty of victims and civilians as well. This is an attack which also has another risk namely of offering new space which is unthinkable after a few days ago to isis and to its criminal, terrorist activities and syria in the middle east but not just in the middle east. Also, in other continents around the world. Italy in line with the e. U. s position condemns the turkish operations which are ongoing. We have also talked about libya. We talked about this topic as all the other topics with a spirit of friendship and in a tangible way. The Current Situation in libya is a source of deep concerns to us. We are convinced of the fact that the violence of the terror attack can destabilize all of north africa. It increases the threat of terrorism and it contributes to creating an environment which fosters all kinds of illegal trafficking and of course it jeopardizes our country and it denies the libyan people of the possibility of finding the peace and solution it deserves after so many years. We talked about our relationship with President Trump and through an open dialogue with china. We want to defend the world based on clear rules with the u. N. At the center of the world and in a open and fair market, one that complies with the trade organizations. From this point of view, we discussed two topics, mainly security concerning new technologies and i am referring to 5g. Italy has been paying close attention to our National Security requirements that has paid close attention to it and it will continue to do so. We also under line the need to have a level plain field in trade and investments. So there could be a fair and healthy trade relationship, and we do not discriminate anybody and protecting intellectual property for all economic players involved without any theft or technology. All of these topics we discussed with a full spirit of friendship like with many other topics. This opportunity was an excellent opportunity to reiterate the friendship between the u. S. And italy and very strong relationship between our two countries and we are in the framework of the atlanticalliance. I want to thank you President Trump very much for our meeting and talks and oyour welcome. I will be seeing you again this afternoon on a vacation thatll be filled of many elements of meanings and importance. Thank you mr. President. Thank you very much mr. President. The wto, the World Trade Organization as everyone knows we just won 7. 5 billion because of unfair trade practices. Thatll be distributed in a fairway various countries in europe and we are talking to the president about that as it pertains to italy. He thought we were a little bit harsh on italy. Well never do that. Well look at that strongly. That was one of the requests made and well be taking a look at that. Please. Thank you, mr. President , i want to ask about turkey. Did president erdogans decision surprise you . And if it did not surprise you, would you make the same decision as you made before in moving u. S. Forces. Uiw and gm may have been working on deals, if i can get your reaction on that. Mr. President if i can ask you about the digital tax. Did you two discuss a dejigital tax, as it relates to amazon and google. What progress were you able to make . President erdogan did not surprise me. Hes been wanting to do that for a long time. Hes been building up troops on the border. Our soldiers are almost gone. Under 50 soldiers and reaches a tiny force. It did not surprise me at all. They have been worrying for many years. It is a natural for us but unnatural for them. They fight long and they fight hard and they have been fighting syria for a long time and on the border of syria. Why are we protecting syrias land . Assad is not a friend of ours. Syria has relationships with the kurds. By the way, no angels. Syria has a relationship with the kurds so theyll come in for their border and they may bring partners in or russia in. When it was a soviet union and it became russia, a much smaller country because of afghanistan. You can over extend or do a lot of things but frankly if russia is going to help in protecting the kurds, thats a good thing. It would be led by syria and syria does not want turkey to take its land. I can understand that. What does it have to do with the United States of america . But, syria does have a relationship with the kurds. The thing thats common is everybody hates isis. The pkk which is apart of the kurds as you know probably worst of terror and more of a threat in my ways than isis. It is a semicomplicated problem. I think it is a problem that we have nicely under control. We have two countries wanting their land. We have one country that wants land that does not belong to them because they want to have a 22 miles strip of they call it freedom, they call it a lot of things. You have another country that cant have their land. You have to work it out. With that being said, Vice President mike pence is going there, hell believing late tonight or tomorrow. They have to have Second Security done. An important man in the country. We have representatives there negotiating with turkey. We put massive sanctions on turkey. We have additional sanctions on turkey. When i ran, i ran on the bases, well bring our great soldiers back home where they belong. We dont have to fight these endless wars. Some people whether it is industrial complex, they want me to stay. One of the problems i have and for instance, people want me to stay and want me to fight forever. They do very well fighting. Thats what they want to d do fight. A lot of Companies Want to fight because they make their weapons based on fighting and not based on peace. I want to bring our soldiers back home. We are not a police force. We are the greatest fighting force ever. I spent 2. 5 trillion rebilling orebuilding our military. When i took over, it was depleted. I was thinking to do something, one of the generals came to see me, so we dont have ammunition. Thats a terrible thing you just said. Now we have more ammunition than we have. We have more missiles and rockets. Our nuclear have been updated and in some cases new. Hopefully, to god we never hav to use it. We have the most powerful nuclear based by far in the world. We have things we never had before. We have a great modern new military but that does not mean well waste it like we did with these crazy endless war. Turkey and syria will hope to work it between themselves. Isis will be guarded. I spoke as you know a wonderful man yesterday, general, from the kurds. Some of you have seen tp letther that i put out to erdogan. I gave it to president erdogan. Some of you have seen it with the general, listen, dont open those doors and let them out to create more havoc so that we come in. Some of those doors we just opened, lets create some havoc and some political exposure for the president of the United States. We were the ones that contact, we were the ones that got isis, we are the ones that took care of it. Specifically me because i am the one that gave the order. When i came in under president obama, isis was a disaster all over that area. I was the one that got them, we were the ones that captured them. I will say this, russia, iran, syria and maybe slightly lesser extent, turkey, they all hate isis as much as we do. We are 7,000 miles away. I cant bring my soldiers back home. Thats what i am doing. That includes other places, too. Many other places. S diplomat diplom diplomatically, it takes a period of time. We are in many countries, many, many countries. I am embarrassed i tell you how many. I know the exact number because it is so foolish. We are protecting countries that dont even like us. They take advantage of us. They dont pay nothing you probably saw some of you wrote and covered the fact that we are sending additional troops to saudi arabia. Thats true. I negotiated for a matter of minutes where saudi arabia did not agree to pay the cost. Theyre a rich country, they should be paying and so does other country if they want this kind of protection. We are at 4 and other countries are at 1 . European country benefits much more than we do with nato. Perhaps we benefit but not nearly as much as the european country. Some people say we dont benefit at all. We put ourselves in harm ws wa. We do that to europe but then they treat us badbadly, not fai. We are in a great position, we are doing what i said. We have two countries thats going to argue over their borders and well try to work it out. Our Vice President is as capable man and hell do well tomorrow. Hes going to meet with president erdogan. He said he would not meet with anybody and he took that back a little while ago. No, i will. I think theyll have a successful meeting. If they dont, the sanctions and tariffs and other things that well do and well do and are doing to turkey will be devastating to turkeys economy. The Previous Administration tried very hard and could not do it. I did it very quickly. Lets see what happens. We got to get out of the endless war. We have to bring our troops back home. I go out to give purple hearts, just did it on friday. I see soldiers coming home in a coffin, on areas that we had nothing to do with. It is heartbreaking. I sign letters all the time to parents whose son was shot in different places in the middle east mostly. It is heartbreaking to see, very heartbreaking. So i have said it and it is through strength and not weakness. I can be like all of these others oh, just leave them there, leave them there. I cant do it. Much easier for me and politically better for me to say well leave a lot of people there and well fight, they dont know what theyre fighting for. It is much more political. People on my side they want to fight. I said why are we fighting . I dont know. They dont even know. You have syria and turkey, theyre going to argue and maybe theyre going to fight it out. Our men is not going to get killed. They have been fighting for hundreds of years. This has been going for hundreds of years. It is a long answer. But, i think i have gotten much of it out. Thank you very much. Please, questions . Thank you, mr. President , i was asking if the two of you discuss digital tax and where that discussion may be going as particular it may relates to google and amazon and others. No, we did not talk about thand this is an open issue. It is being discussed in a number of International Contexts so that this important issue can be discussed and solved. I have to say, i did discuss it with another european member, namely france, france is basically doing the digital tax. I am no fan of those companies. They were against me. Some people said i lost 2 million votes or maybe more because of facebook. These are american companies. Whether you like it or not, they are great big american companies. I am not happy with the digital tax where france and European Union is taxing our company. We impose big tax on french wine because of it. To answer your question, i am not happy about the fact they are taxing our companies. I am not af fan of those companies. If anybody thats taxing those companies, it should be the usa. It should not be france or the European Union who are really taking advantage of the United States. Thank you very much. Good question. The question for president mattarella. In recent days you talked about the recent days some european countrie country incluy have discussed a ban on turkey. Do you think this could be a way to respond and turkey continues to be a member of nato . Mr. President , i would like to ask you on september 27th, attorney general barr asked you to be in the room, i would like to know if you talk to to the Prime Minister to attend this meeting. If you were satisfied from the information intelligence gave you. Well, i dont know the details. I know your country is liking in looking into the election of 2016 whether it is comey or mccabe. There was a lot of corruption maybe right after president obama i happen to think it does. You look at clapper and we got some beauty. The ig report is coming out soon. Well find out. I dont know anything about the meeting but certainly would be appropriate because of the word is and you read it in the same papers that i do that they did go to other countries and try to hide what they were doing. Italy may have been one of them. So you really have to ask attorney general barr, okay . Thank you. Yes, turkey is a member of nato. Thats something very important, of course. I would like to remind you that currently there is an italian contribution to turkey. We have an antimissile system. Something more important than my friendship is the truth. The relationship of friendship and alliances of course dont mean that we cant say that the turkish attack is a serious mistake. We condemn that attack whatev whatsoever. The solution of course does not lie in sanctions. If it continues, sanctions will be inevitable. Italy has made announcements as the European Union. The solution is to stop all operations and retreat the area. John, go ahead. I want to pick up on what you comment on turkey and syria. Even after you have seen isis and turkey you dont have any regret to give erdogan the green light. I didnt give him a green light. Just the opposite of a green light. We have no soldiers there. Theyre a tiny little group. They would have been in harms way. Massive army on the other side of the border. I didnt give them a green light. If anybody saw the letter which can be released easily if you would like. I can release it. I wrote a letter after the conversation, a powerful letter, there was never a green light. They have been wanting to do it for years and they have been fighting for many years. When you ask a question like that, it is deceptive. It is almost as deceptive as you show all of the bombings taken place in syria, turns out the bombing that you show on television took place in kentucky. I am not sure if abc apologize for that. It was a terrible thing. I am looking at this and wow, thats pretty bad and it was in kentucky and it was not in syria. I dont know what you are going to do that. I think abc poowes an apology. If you keep talking like that, this will be a disaster, worst than obamas decision to leave iraq. Lindsey graham would like to stay in the middle east with thousands of soldiers and fighting other peoples war. I want to get out of the middle east. Lindsey should focus on judiciary like the donothingdemocrats. They are getting nothing done. Theyre not getting anything done between canada and the United States between mexico. I think lindsey should focus on y judiciary. He ought to find out what happened with comey and lisa and peter strzok and what happened with president obama and br bren the people of South Carolina dont want us to get into a war with turkey or syria. Let them fight their own war. They have been fighting for a thousand year. The people of South Carolina wants to see those troops come home. I won an election based on that and thats the way it is whether it is good or bad. If you look at this country, i would be willing to bet anything that is what the country wants. I am not going to get involved in a war between turkey and syria especially when if you look at the kurds. I say this with Great Respect, they are no angels. If you look at pkk, isis respects pkk, you know why . Theyre isis. Nobody wants to say it. We are making the kurds look like angels. We have given them massive fortunes. You know what . It is wonderful. They fought with us but we paid a lot for them to fight with us. We were the ones that capture isis. People let some go. They open a couple of doors to make us look as bad as possible. We have a situation where turkey is taken land from syria. Syria is not happy about it. Let them work it oiut. You should be showing up buildings blowing up in kentucky. Thats fake news. Ask me a question. You dont think the country worries about isis. You think some of the countries may hate isis more than the United States. Oh, absolutely. Russia. Russia hates isis as much as the United States does. Iran hates isis. We are fighting a war for russia. We are fighting a war for iran. You look at syria, they hate isis. Were killi we are killing isis. We are 7,000 miles away. We are killing isis. Russia is much closer. Iran is right there and turkey is right there. Turkey is a little less so but the others are very much. Russia had a plane blown up by isis. Russia wants nothing to do with isis. Russia is tough, they can kill isis as well if they happen to be in their neighborhood. All i am saying is this, i am not going to lose thousands of tens of thousands of american soldiers fighting a war between turkey and syria. Syria is not our friend. Assad is not our friend. Mr. President , you said you withdrew 28 troops. They say it was 28. We thought it was 50 but it was 26 to 28 troops. Listen. All accounted for. Nobody injured or nobody missing. Look at whats happening since those troops were drawn. You know what happens . No american soldiers were killed and other people will go in. Probably the kurds let go to make it stronger and political impact. Thats okay. I fully understand it. We are bringing our soldiers baa back home. We were supposed to be in syria ten months, that was ten years ago. We have been a police force, it is time to bring our soldiers back home. We have no soldiers hurt. We have the most powerful military in the world by far. Please. Mr. President , whats the view of europe of the president s decision to withdraw and make abrupt decision to withdraw from syria . I am not here to judge what other countries do. To say what my countrys position is and our position. On the feedback that we condemn what turkey decided to do with no possible am ambiguity. The question for president mattarella. Do you think it is possible to avoid tariffs being imposed for twodaytime. A president for President Trump, we know you ar concerns considering huawei entering italys security system. Are you satisfied with the measures that italy decided to implement . Yes, i am satisfied. They are been accommodating. They were not at the beginning but they have been since then. I want to thank the Italian Government and your Prime Minister in addition to the president. I had long conversations with my friend and they were very nice. I am very satisfied. We just discussed the same conversation with the president. Very satisfied. Thank you. As far as the topic of terrorists, terrorists following the wto, a decision on the eu, contribution subsidies to the consortium. Let me repeat it. With the friendship that there has been with the u. S. And the eu. It will be possible for us to discuss our discussion so we can find a solution which takes into account of the requirements of both party and thats wholly possible. The alternatives is having imposed tariffs. Currently following the wtos decision concerning air bust, maybe terrorists. This is a mere race between tariffs and mutual tariffs. I think it would be best to meet and to deal with our mutual needs so that a solution could be found. But, if we dont do this now, it will be done soon. I believe it would be best to find a solution immediately and instead of imposing tariffs which would lead to other tariffs and that would be a damage to both of our economies. Actually the tariffs situation is interesting. With china, we could not lose a war of tariffs because the imbalance is so great. We collected tens of billions of dollars of tariffs and given some of the farmers and make them even. The farmers are going to have a bigger contract than they ever thought possible. They are incredible and ingenious. Theyll have to buy larger factors which is what they are doing now. A war of tariffs and trade of balance thats so graeat. We cant lose that. The word reciprocity is my favorite words. Of all of these words and semicomplicated and complicated to me. To me is not complicated at all. Things we are doing got to be reciprocal and it is not. The European Union is taking tremendous advantage of the United States. Many of us come through one way or another, through the European Union. Thats the good news. They have been very smart. Jean claude has been brilliant. Hes been brilliant at really helping them and not helping us. So thats changing now. We cant lose that particular war of tariffs because the trade and balances is tremendous. If you look at what they dont have the barriers that they put up, they put up tremendous barriers doing business in europe. Both from a monitor standpoint and what they call nine monitor barriers. It is very tough thing. Our foreign product is hard to get in. Yet they send mercedes, volkswagon and bmw. It is a tough situation for us for many years but now it is a great, tough situation for them. I can remember the situation very easily and there is not any financial counter attack. Hopefully i dont have to do that. We are talking with some new people. In europe and i hope it is going to be successful. That way we dont have to talk or worry about it because our relationships should be a great one. We have to be treated fairly on nato and we have to be treated fairly with trade and European Union. Thank you all very much. Thank you. President trump just finished up a News Conference with italy president where they discussed their countrys Nato Alliance and trade conflict in syria. Joining me now is kelly odonell and eugene scott. Mr. Scott, lets go to you, senate erlor Lindsey Graham, on the president s ally sent this tweet earlier. I hope President Trump is right in his belief that turkeys invasion of syria is in no concern to us, abandoning the kurds wont come back to haunt us and isis wont reemerge and iran will not fill the vak cup created by this decision. If President Trump helicopters to make such statements, this will be a disaster, worst than president obamas decision to leave iraq. President trump responded to this right there basically saying what does Lindsey Graham know. That guy would tylike for us to stay in the middle east for the next 1000 years. What kind of a risk is the president taking making a Statement Like that. He has not suffered significant conflict for criticizing graham. One of the reasons graham has said that he tried to get close to trump so he could influence him on Foreign Policy. Something that graham has pride himself being an expert on throughout his career. Thats something President Trump does not have significant experience in. Graham is not having the impact that he believes that he could have or wanted to have and what he risked most of his reputation on trying to get close to the president , there could be consequence and not just for the decision that the president will make in the middle east but consequences for graham so one who really need to prove what he has done is actually in the best interests for america and not just him if he wants to get reelected. Kelly. I know we have two kellys with us. The president says hes okay with russia partnering on syria on military operations against the kurds. You know this region more than anyone i know. What are your thoughts . The president just opened the door for Vladimir Putin to be the major player in the middle east. The president s comment were offensive, they were outrageous. They were false in many regards in terms of talking about how he was bringing american troops home and none of those troops are coming home. Theyll be redeployed in other areas in the middle east. So, what hes saying publicly is not actually whats happening on the ground and just how he characterizes our kurdish allies and it is just a complete destruction of americas credibility on the global stage. We know often times when hes at the podium, he goes off unscripted. That was not the case here. He did again talk about endless wars and repeated this false claim of whats known as a lie of depleted am natimunition. Do you know where this lie comes from . It does not bear out the larger picture. The president said that a number of times. It is one of the tools he uses to say he helped to fortify the military during his time. He made a direct personal attack today on president obama saying that President Trump will lead, president obama was personally involved in some of the things for the impeachment inquiry. The president is trying to investigate what are the roots of any sort of interference in the 2016 election in ukraine. The president making a personal accusation about that today and also President Trump seeming to have a disconnect between the u. S. Role in the world as a stabilizing force in areas that are hot spots and completely rejecting a personal spo responsibility he may have. The actions that resulted eventhough hes sending his own president there. When the president says clearly, turkey wanted to take action so he knew it would happen and it is his position that his Campaign Promise to bring troops home should over take and the stability that the u. S. Could bring. The u. S. Does have forces around the globe in places where there is a large footprint but not a hot war in order to keep peace. The president seems to be rejecting that kind of Foreign Policy. Also, a repeat attack on the kurds who in one breath he does describe his allies and in other also criticizes them and distances himself. There is a big question about what the definition of the responsibilities of those allies relationships are. Thats unanswered after the president s comments today. Kelly, when you speak to people on the campaign trail, it does not rise to a top priority for voters. What the president is saying over the last few hours for the most part is listen, thats their problem, it is not necessarily ours. I want to play for you some comments from the president s daughterinlaw and Campaign Advisor laura trump, what he said about the kurds. I think we should start with the fact that if you ask the average american out there, you have to google who are the kurds and why is america over there fighting this war. We were supposed to be for 30 days and we have been there ten years. When the president campaigned 2016, he was clear he wanted to stop all of these endless wars. Who cares if the kurds are dying. Most americans need to google them. Whats your response to that . Listen, i think if you look at recent polling, the number one fear National Security of Foreign Policy that Americans Still have is terrorism and isis. So, the president s own decision now to potentially boost isis at a time where we cant afford it. It is going to be at the front of peoples mind. He undermines his own team that was trying to anywnegotiate a p with the turks. He up ended his own strategy on countering isis. Thank you all very much helping us break down the president s comments just a few moments ago. Eugene scott and kelly odonell and kelly magsimus. We are following breaking news. It is part of the investigation into President Trumps alleged misconduct involving ukraine according to two people familiar with the situation. Joining me now nbcs Heidi Przybyla with her new reporting. Reporter this is really significant because this acting ambassador was right in the middle of everything thats going on with campaign by the president to pressure the ukrainians, he was getting it on both sides, both from Rudy Giuliani and his associates as well as from the ukrainians who were trying to deal with the president s demands as he was withholding the white houses meeting and eventually military aide because he wanted the ukrainians to investigate the bidens. What we know in term of whs of e may say is based on this package of text news obtained, which shows he said in a text message to the acting Eu Ambassador, to the Eu Ambassador who was really pressuring him, that it would be quote crazy to withhold u. S. Military aid to ukraine for the purposes of a political campaign, in this case, Donald Trumps political campaign. So, steph, he is coming here, he is going to be candid with the committee. And he knows a lot. Because this is the one witness that really so far we know for a fact was opposed to what was going on. He really had a conscience and was concerned about what he was witnessing. And he was told then by Gordon Sondland five hours later after he texted, this is crazy. He was told by sondland that, no, this is not a quid pro quo. We now know that sondland was speaking on behalf of the president who was trying to swat all of that down. We do know after those text exchanges. We heard from the likes of pretty mcgirk, mike mcfaul who said taylors actions were that of an american hero. Thank you so much, that exclusive reporting from heidi pryzbilla. Right now, lawmakers are hearing testimony from mike pompeos former Senior Adviser, a man who resigned less than a week ago after serving different diplomatic roles for 37 years. We will dig into what she might know. Plus, which top level Trump Officials are refusing to comply with the impeachment inquiry. You are watching velshi ruehle on a very busy msnbc day. First, what do we know he will say regarding his time in the state department and give us more context, who this guy is, what his job was and who he was working for. Sure. Mckinley spent 37 years at the state department an served as ambassador to a number of different country and was brought in by mike pompeo to serve as pompeos conduit to political staff and others at the state department until he resigned last friday. One of the things House Democrats want to get out of the mckinley, the circumstance around the firing of marie yovanovitch. We have some reporting that was one of the last straws for mckinley at his time at the state department. What does he know about how pompeo handled that and how this ties into the you know guiliani outside adviser nexus of what was going on in ukraine. She a context witness for democrats in that regard and, frankly, within the state Department Operations more broadly. Something that democrats have been very interested if getting more information on since the moment we found out about this original phone call between the president and the president of ukraine. Cynthia, we know a number of people close to the president. Whether its rudy guiliani, the documents that the house is asking for, from mike pences office, Nick Mulvaney and others are refusing to comply. We learned today morocco esper is refusing to comply. Is this a different situation than we saw lets say in the russia investigation or the request for the president s taxes, where those stonewalling tactics and running the clock worked because there was no other information getting out . Right now you fought mckinley testifying, three other people have already testified and theres more coming. If you are any of these people refossing to comply, isnt it a negative for you fought to be able to tell your story and to allow others to do it for you . Absolutely. And youre right. The stonewall, worked in the russia investigation. Because nobody they never broke through. But here, all the career people are coming through. This bill taylor is very important next week. Sondlands testimony is very important. It will be interesting to see whether or not he brings the documents that have been suspended and we found out now from fiona hill, that he was using his personal phone. So it will be interesting to know whether or not we learn about the Text Messages that are on that phone and any other information that he has, whether using whatsapp, what was he doing to communicate . Yes, you are right. Its different because the stonewalling has been stopped. The other thing in the russia investigation is nobody ever pushed it. You know, don mcgahn didnt testify. The house judiciary took them three months to go to court and say its an emergency. Of course, the court is like its an emergency remember where were you three months ago . Where is the emergency . This is different. When these people are testifying schiff will be in very soon in front of a Court Pushing to get this information from the individuals who arent showing up. And it will be an emergency situation, need to be done quickly. And it is an impeachment investigation, which gives the court added ammunition to force them to testify more quickly and turn over documents. Cynthia, the republicans or the white house has been trying to force nancy pelosi to have an official impeachment vote. Without that vote, theyre saying this is not an official investigation. Its a big scam. They dont have to do it. Lets say nancy pelosi puts this to a vote. Lets say she gets it. Will they have any other viable excuse to not show up . Of course, they l. Not to date myself. This is lucie and the football. Im tempted on some level to say, yes, just have it so they dont have that excuse anymore. Just face it, they are not going to cooperate. That letter from the white house, which was not the least bit lawyerly and had improper citations to law in it. When the white house said we are not cooperating under anyway shape or form, thats their attitude. They are not going to turn it over. I have to say i have a Great Respect for the toughness that nancy pelosi has in this situation. I dont think theyre ever going to do it. Theyre gentleman to have to be forced by a court. Karen, what have we learned so far about white house chief of staff Nick Mulvaneys role concerning ukraine policy . His name. He is being banterred about. Has it been akin to anything specific yet . Reporter well, hes the acting chief of statute you would expect him to have his hand on just about everything in the white house. That appears to be the case here. We learned yesterday from one of the members in that deposition, that there was a meeting mulvaney called back in may in which he essentially directed three political appointees to be in charge of ukraine policy. Forgetting what their actual jobs or responsibilities should be. Those three individual, rick perry, curt volker who we have already heard from and gordon sonland, a name we will be very familiar with when this thing is said and done. He is expected to be here tomorrow. But mulvaney is being increasingly coming into focus as a presence for all of this. Hes someone who i think will likely you go to Great Lengths to be protected by the white house should he ever be called to testify or provide any kind of document. But his presence in all of this cant be overstated at this point. Lets not forget, there was a surprise visitor today back on the hill, curt volker for a second time in less than a week. Garrett haig, Cynthia Oxney thank you for helping us get smarter if breaking down this subject. I will see you tomorrow at 9 00 a. M. Eastern. Right now katy tur picks up. I am katy tur. It is 2 00 p. M. In washington. We will get to our inquiry. There is a lot of developments on that. First we want to play this afternoons News Conference where in response to senator Lindsey Grahams criticism of his Foreign Policy decisions in syria, the president brushed off the escalating crisis. Watch this. Lindsey graham just said of your remarks that you made in the oval office that if you keep talking like that, quote, this will be a disaster, who, than obamas decision to leave iraq. No, Lindsey Graham would like to stay in the middle east for the next thousand years with thousands of
